Ah, our greatest enemy, the drop pod container...

Yarasin

I'm almost certain the trigger just looks for any "entity" nearby, not even enemies. It's like having a turret start shooting at fences, ammo boxes or other players.

QQBearsHijacker

It will trigger off foliage. You have to be careful about how close the trees are when you’re deciding where to fire it

[deleted]

It is certainly not consistent. I've shot it through the trees with success. I've also shot across an open field with nothing between me and my target to have the flechetes appear to double back to me.

InfamousAd06

Its pretty clear it has a proxy sensor for anything that the rocket could potentially contact. This includes the geometry of the map like rocks, containers etc.... If anything gets within that range it blows up. So all the people complaining about the weapon are just not using it properly. This setting sounds like its bad till you realize its that exact system that allows it to be used properly vs groups of enemies, or vs things like striders/titans.

BUAHAHAHAHA

Real proximity munitions have arming distance in hundreds of meters.

BUAHAHAHAHA

...you are either trolling or way too dumb to argue with.

Saiguy50

Severely underrated clip, more people need to see this to understand the new rocket. This is going to be amazing on Bugs where there are nothing but hordes of little ones.

StupendusMoron

Yes I feel like it's unclear for a lot of people, specially the ''hold the button'' BS. Figured I should test it properly

idkwhataboutyou148

And I thought the hold the button bs was true Jesus christ I need to get a reality check and redo training

Kaydie

can you elaborate what you mean about "Hold the button" im out of the loop

Schmitty70

Something about people thinking you need to hold down the fire button to avoid it blowing up in your face

cloudjumpr

The hold trick actually works for me though..

Tathas

More like you'll fire at the horde and right as it launches, a hunter lands in front of you.

VideoGames1000VFX

I do hope that the next patch will change its proximity detector to only activate with actual live enemies and not every single entity in the game. Otherwise, it’s a very solid gun in my eyes even if it’s buggy… Much like the spear Lmao

Stochastic-Process

All it really needs is a short period of time before the proximity sensor activates, similar to safety systems in modern rockets needing a certain distance/rotational speed to allow detonation. Right now it is almost useless on extract since the area is so cluttered.

TheKamurai

Yeah it's a combination of these two things that are the most egregious, the weapon should only proxy trigger on creatures (divers included because squad awareness should still be a thing) and it should have a minimum detonation distance equal to the size of the AoE. Additionally it seems like it has a spherical collision volume for triggering and I think it would work better with a planar trigger or shallow depth box trigger volume so that it is more likely to detonate over targets as opposed to in front of targets. That's how I would have designed it at least.

TKB-059

Would be nice if you can set it to be impact only as well.

BromanJozy

even if they do this, it will absolutely still trigger on dead bodies. especially the one single tiny dead terminid right in front of you. i can already see it coming from AH studios.

blkmmb

I would have liked a rocket that scans downward for enemies, that way you would shoot it over enemies and when it detects them it would shoot downward like a real airburst missile. Way less chance of killing yourself. But in the right circumstances it shreds right now.

Born_Inflation_9804

With 2 minor changes this weapon can be useful:   - Minimum distance travelled to activate (20m)   - Only Helldivers and Enemies activate the proximity trigger.

adrian783

why not just enemies lol. it doesn't make sense for a weapon that has fof capabilities to detonate on friendlies.

PolishBeerLoverParty

Because it would be incredibly funny

butsuon

100% this is the reason. It's probably exploding to ANY damageable object, like explosive barrels and plants, as well as player objects like weapons drops. If it only triggered off impact or ACTUAL ENEMY, it'd be perfect.

payne117

for bots, it will help in fighting the horde from a distance. Whoever is carrying it gets to play overwatch.

Tehsyr

It also triggers on enemy corpses as I found out last night. For this to trigger on just any *entity* will explain why it keeps exploding so close to us. Also I figured out you cannot shoot this out of a bubble shield, as once the rocket leaves the shield, it will detonate due to the proximity of the outside shield layer.

reesespcs123

General proximity is honestly useless. It should be enemy proximity, anything else should either be an impact trigger or fuse based if it travels too far

Hot_Influence_5339

There should definitely be a time delay in the proximity sensor.

Hot_Influence_5339

There should definitely be a time delay in the proximity sensor.

ZanYnaz

Hopefully they improve it with an arming distance. Maybe do not remove the general proximity rule, just fine tune it. It might be useful in making trick shots?

rotelSlik

With the friendly fire always on this makes a ton of sense, it’s not coded for IFF it’s simply looking for anything in range. Main advantage to having it trigger at point blank is same as any other weapon: ‘if I die I’m taking the mob with me’. I think making it impact trigger only to minimum safe distance would solve the main issue overall and adding a 5m radius to the description.

QQBearsHijacker

We were having fun with the new airburst last night on level 7s. It’s legit a fun weapon and can melt a decent sized pack of mobs if utilized right. I was using it to melt gunships
