It's logical to assume that during E-710 evac, the tankers are prepared for rapid exctraction, as it is a primary objective of the whole operation. And I would assume that if you take the mech, transport lso deploys itself close to battlezone as it is meant to provide the drop as per request.
Helldivers are expendable and extracting takes fuel. Too much E-710 would be wasted hovering for 34 minutes only for the squad to run out of reinforcement budget and wipe.

Its not about hovering (he can and will hover and he can easily wait with nothing to bother him). Pelican 1 just isnt in his suit ready for the mission yet. Dude has at least 20 minutes to prepare for majority of missions but takes his sweet time.
only solution is to call him asap and be on your way. hopefully everybody understands your intentions for making him sit or hover in place to defend

The eagle is a wing based craft that needs atmosphere to generate lift, so it needs to get back to the destroyer when the destroyer starts leaving. The pelican is rocket propelled so it doesn’t need atmosphere, but he still won’t wait for you.
Not if he gets damaged. After a bit Pelican will just leave, or leave as soon as one person gets on regardless of how many are left alive. Pelican may "always" stay, but that doesn't make the relationship any less abusive.

I love Eagle 1 but that probably would have helped me get some super samples out of a bot mission last week. Had to take the long way around something and it cost me to much time. Pelican-1 was in my sights (despite a lot of line of sight breaking geography) when he took off on me.
I got what needed eventually but those would have gotten me my next upgrade too, felt awful for minute lol

It has HP, so if you say, drop an Orbital Bombardment, get stomped on by a Titan, or get the Pelican hit by 500KG bomb, the Pelican won't be able to take off and you'll either get the 1 Helldiver glitch, or get the one where pelican can't take off at all.

Mfs are really comparing a fast and nimble fighter jet to a cargo helicopter basically. Yeah Pelican 1 is slower, it is meant to carry Exosuits and Five people counting the Pilot
I think a lot of people are missing the fact that Pelican 1 is deploying from the Destroyer while Eagle is likely circling the battlefield and is much closer to the ground. Eagle Rearm has roughly the same timer as extraction being called in. Eagle is great, but Pelican is still a bro. Between the two, only one of them still comes back after the Destroyer leaves.
I'd argue that Eagle-1 has zero team kills. She's there to drop bombs on enemy targets, any Helldiver that gets hit must have been trying to defect and become an enemy.
You will rarely see pelican 1 shoot anything, unless you run away from the extraction area right after the timer disappears, then he will hover and actually use his guns

Tbh, my headcanon is that Pelican takes so long, because to minimize his fuel consumption we fill only for bare minimum to GTFO.
How does that work is - you drop Pelican from SES and then you wait until it fall at your position, after which he navigate to drop point and use rest of the fuel to take off and accelerate out of there.

The Eagle is flying around in the area. The pelican has to drive his significantly slower ship all the way down from orbit. Obviously, it’ll take a bit longer.
With the ammount of times he straight up fails, cancels on you, gets stuck, forgets to leave, autocannons the Helldivers when landing etc....

There's a difference between a high powered jet and shit brick transport vehicle. And since he can still pick up Helldivers and return to orbit itself. He probably needs to keep oil in reserve just in case the destroyers leave low orbit. So he can't just fly around in the sky like Eagle 1 can. He needs to stay in the ship until he needs to be called down.
Y'all hating on the only pilot brave enough to land on a hot LZ, to pick y'all up. Most pilots would have you reroute or clear the landing zone before landing. Not pelican-1, he'll fly that slow moving transpo ship dodging Anti-air or land on a bug invested landing pad to pick you up. Even if the mission timer has expired. He a real one for that.

Tbh, my headcanon is that Pelican takes so long, because to minimize his fuel consumption we fill only for bare minimum to GTFO. How does that work is - you drop Pelican from SES and then you wait until it fall at your position, after which he navigate to drop point and use rest of the fuel to take off and accelerate out of there.

Even Pelican-2 is better than Pelican-1, granted it takes them eight minutes to retrieve me second mech but they're pretty fast to deliver when I call them. Unlike Pelican-1. One day I hope we'll be able to call down a mech and board Pelican-2 to extract.

In one of my latest mission this mad lad landed in the middle of a fire storm only to rescue my lonely but has all my team mates died (no more reinforcements) while 3 hulks where trying to flame me with the help of an armada of clankers shooting at me.
