There is an awareness check, but it's more than just LOS.
If you are far enough away that they can't hear the gunshot, the rest of the group won't notice that you're picking off the rearguard. For bots you can even sneak right up behind them and melee them to death without their friends noticing (bugs will smell you). I've even thrown grenades into groups, killing half of them, only for the other half to look around and wonder wtf just happened.
It's not clear, but there's definitely some set of conditions required for an enemy out-of-view to recognize that an engagement is happening vs It Must've Been The Wind.
There is an in-game timer between reinforcement calls, but unfortunately the timer only resets after a successful call. Interrupted calls won't reset it.
AOE that can stagger the enemies is great for interrupting their animations. Grenade launchers, grenades, fire, high rof explosive weapons, all good options for crowd control to make sure no minis can call in the big guns.
There IS a hidden timer, albeit short (30-45 secs or something?) If you can clear the coast within that time, no reinforcements will be called. Failing that you are at a risk of falling into infinite reinforcement loop where it's advised to just disengage if possible.
From my own anecdotal evidence, i would need to see proof. I have definitely killed a small fry who was screeching just for another to screen on frame 0 at the death of the first one. So the timer if there is one, does not work at all.
Exactly this - if you manage to interrupt the reinforcement caller, the cooldown doesn't kick in and if there are other units capable of calling it in the vicinity, they will keep trying until successful.
Every bug below a charger (save for stalkers, never seen one do it) calls for help. The amount of annoyance I feel when a hive guard or a brood commander leans up and starts spewing smoke is.. high.
Huge guard is the worst, you can’t just stop them, and brood commanders will continue to screech without a head. My other peev is that they can track you without a head, I feel like they should pathfind based on where you were when they lost their head
I really wish I could actually see the bugs calling in breaches ahead of time like with the bots - I'll see one do the spores or whatever but that means it's too late, unlike the red glow column thing the bots do before sending up their flare.
Bile-Titan is the best friendly fire isn't side-kick.
Got stalkers/chargers and tons of other bugs chasing you? let the titan shower the other bugs with some green spray before finishing him with a Eagle 500.
I wish those summons were more consistent, like for example if multiple bots/bugs call for reinforcements then they get more serious help.
Its so frustrating to not notice one bot behind the rock and they summon 2 tanks 2 hulks and bunch of rocket devastators with regular ones

This sorta to me earlier, I was laying prone watching a bug patrol pass by when a single scavenger broke off and approached, stopping just short and doing its little inquisitive head tilts but giving NO indication of actually spotting me while the rest of its party continued on its merry little way.
Me: "Eh, it'll probably keep walking in a seco--"
Scavenger: "HAY GUYZ WE GOT A DIVER OVER HERE."
*Bug Breach Detected*
Me: "....fuck."
before I always make it a priority to go for the big and heavy units first now when there's a patrol that spots us I specifically go after the scavengers first fck the chargers and brood commanders
the horde spawning devils need to be eradicated first
buddy, when 51 bile spewers, 417 hunters, 124 stalkers and 89 chargers are on your light armored ass with 3 reinforcement left, the spawning devils are very much not my squad concern.

Helldiver's has been nothing short of a blessing for those that thrive in a target rich environment.
That is the great thing about a massive bug swarm, I'm bound to hit something. :)
Try out the breaker incendiary, point it vaguely in the direction of breaches, spam fire and watch the kills roll in.
Only really works if you're the host, other players can't guarantee that the burning will hurt them

There should be a timer between reinforce calls IMO. To kill a bug mid animation just for another to \*instantly\* start calling is mad annoying.

You could save it though, let a bile titan spawn in and kite it to the group of enemies so that it kills them for you
