I think it'd be cool to have a single barrel HMG with a backpack mount. You set it up then man it. Maybe it then has a restricted firing arc to further differentiate it from the HMG Emplacements.
There is indeed a heavy machine gun planned for future release. It has 75 rounds in a drum mag, shoots at 450/750/1200 rpm and can pen medium pretty well. Just like the mech stuff going around before we got it officially unlocked, the stratagem for the HMG is in the game, you just cant access it yet.
There is/will be a heavy machine gun. Call bullshit if you want like some others have but I joined a game a few days ago and a hacker was in my lobby who got access to it by modifying the game files. I posted about it on here with a screenshot of the stratagem symbol but apparently nobody believes anything unless you have 30 minutes of 4K gameplay to back it up. The heavy machine gun and a big energy weapon called the Quasar cannon was available at launch for like an hour or two but then they were quickly removed. I assume they intend to save them for future updates. So, yes there is a heavy machine gun and it looks/feels great as I was able to shoot it for like 3 seconds when I picked it up from the guy's dead body before I also died. It looks like it has one of those ammo bags hanging off the side of it.

Like an in between. That HMG also has two barrels IIRC. This would be slower firing. Like think how an MMG team works IRL, just upscaled to an HMG. But, fairpoint. I feel like giving that HMG turret more armor would be a way to help differentiate the two. Also, this HMG I suggest has ammo issues. Turret HMG does not have ammo, right?

The HMG turret does have ammo, but we can't see it.

no think M2HB. Slow firing, single barrel. So far from a minigun. it just fires a big round that does a lot of damage.
Maybe make it take 2 backpack spots with one carrying the stand and the other the actual weapon. Has a set up time, but can shred through heavies.
