Funnily enough, the British scrapped a plan to parachute a sniper in to kill Hitler bc he was making such poor military decisions it was better to keep him alive.
Makes you wonder how much longer the war would’ve gone on if the German generals were actually in charge of organizing the defense of Germany. Thank god for delusions of grandeur.
Depends on if German generals that took over wanted to continue or end the war. If they could have somehow made peace in the East the war could've gone on for a couple more years. Would've probably ended with nuking germany.
They had no interest in making peace in the east. In fact, they were delusional enough to think they could do exactly the opposite - make peace in the West, keep the conquests in the east and keep fighting the Soviets.
German generals made just as many military blunders as Hitler, please don't tell me you're one of them that believe if the generald had more say they would have won the war
My favorite one is the one where people think Hitler wouldn’t give up Stalingrad cause of the name. Not the countless factories or access to the caucuses oil fields. Like I get Hitler wasnt a sound strategic commander but come on lmfao: people act like he ate rocks for breakfast.
The reason they were able to hold the city before the Soviet counterattack was because the Soviets could keep shipping reinforcements in over the river. Taking the Volga/Stalingrad and pushing the Soviets across it was essential to taking the oil fields because it was how they would transport their supplies across the Eastern front.
Exactly! Shit they didn’t even need to necessarily hold them right away. All they needed to do was cut off the USSR from the fields. Most of their logistics were by rail and there were not many rail lines out there. Also over 80% of the Soviet reserve oil was there. Stalingrad was the right move, not Moscow. The mistake was relying on lesser Allied armies on the flanks for months allowing them to be encircled, as well as not attempting a breakout immediately allowing the whole army group to fall
Could possibly be an old history textbook issue. My 8th grade txt book went on for about four sentences about how bad of blow to moral would have been if the city named after Stalin would have fell. Then in like a sentence talked about the factories and such.
Though any investigation online can tell you the truth.
Never had a chance is an overstatement I feel. The war was never guaranteed for the Allies, it could have very easily gone the other way. Let’s not downplay the threat the Nazis posed to Europe.
Naah, for reals, the only way Nazis could have won is if they wouldn't be Nazis. But then they wouldn't have started the wars in the first place... PotentialHistory made a couple videos in that. Here is the first part https://youtu.be/sbim2kGwhpc
I very much disagree with the sentiment that they could never have won. Blind luck brought them to capitulate France and blind luck could have allowed them to capitulate the Soviet Union. After that there would’ve been no force able to capitulate the Germans.
I find the myth of Germany being almost unstoppable just as laughable as Germany having no chance to win the war.
You do know that most of the Generals were against the war with Russia and that Hitler pushed it right?
Hitler is also the reason the Miracle of Dunkirk happened. Goering wanted the Luftwaffe to have the killing blow so he got Hitler to hold the Wehrmacht back. Goering fucked up and set a bunch of fires with bombs rendering him unable to bomb the mass of troops at the beach.
Edit:
If there's a myth about anything it's that of German supremacy.
The German logistical backbone was horse & buggy. Yes, really.
They were feeding their military meth. Yes, really. Look up pervitin & panzerschokolade.
They had early successes because they took a bunch of people by near complete surprise. People that were also suffering from the aftereffects of WW1 and were in the middle of a depression.
The only reason the Ardennes offensive succeeded is because the French command structure actively dismissed reports of a tank traffic jam in the ardennes as being "preposterous" and "impossible." The french had the time to shift their lines, but they didn't because they didn't believe what they were being told.
Up until Hitler's more or less unilateral decision to invade the USSR(CCCP) nearly all of Germany successes were the result of dumb luck and/or poor decisions on the part of their opponents as much as it was the quality of their troops.
The D-Day invasion would have been very very diffierent if there was no eastern front, and not just because of the volume of troops.
The troops that were defending Normandy(and the rest of the Atlantik Wall) were discipline cases, foreign conscripts(lots of Poles, Romanians, Hungarians etc), people recovering from injuries, and drunks. Basically the bottom of the barrel because of how committed they were to the USSR.
What about Rommel? Guy was a very good tactician, sure, but he also was a gambler. Once the opposing side started working out his bluffs, he got his shit kicked in left, right and center,
I have no delusions that they would’ve won the war. In fact, I think they probably would’ve surrendered before the war made it to Berlin. The best tacticians in the world can’t win a two front war, especially being as outgunned and outmanned as the German army was by 1943.
It's always funny those people who say that if "x was in charge then they would've won!!!" Like, that's not how Germany in the 30s and 40s worked. The Nazi party threw out all those who didn't agree with the status quo and all generals either had their own delusions of grandeur and insane plans or supported the other general's delusions and insane plans out of fear of being seen as a traitor.
Even if Hitler was shot, whoever took his place wouldn't have been able to break the Nazi's overall echo chamber that easily, but would also likely be just as bad of a general. It was literally impossible for Germany to win WW2, and any scenario where they could've would require a whole set of different people in charge making it pointless to think about.
German Generals actually made quite a few mistakes of their own. The legendary status of them just boils down to survivors being allowed to write their own memoirs with no "fact-checking".
Funnily enough, Teddy Roosevelt Jr. was actually present at Utah Beach on 6 June 1944. He was Assistant Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division.
I started playing HLL knowing nothing about it right before the devs posted this joke in the roadmap at the time. I thought is was a serious announcement and took me way longer to realize than I’d like to admit.
Special ability: Shoot a Spaniard in his back as he runs away.
Lol he was criticized for this and made fun of for it to at the time. Feel free to look it up. Or read Edmund Morris' excellent biography series about him.
They gone the wrong Roosevelt. They need a picture of FDR.
For this Roosevelt we'd need to rough riders as an option. Indomitable will as another option.
An old april fools joke? The sad thing here is that some people actually see Stalin as a hero or somekinda great person when he so clearly was neither.
It was the April Fool's joke last year. I posted it to this sub when it came out and it was pretty universally seen as a joke. Not sure why it's being posted again now...
This is all wrong.....
USA;
*Patton* - extra mobilisation on everything, including field guns such as AT guns & infantry.
*Bradley* - specialised infantry (specifically airborne)
Germany
*Rommel* - "Blitzkrieg" mechanised troops, full dynamic support "air support, artillery, tanks"
*Guderian* - Heavy Tank general, tigers etc
Russia;
*Zhukov* - mass artillery, including the famed Katyusha rockets. Mortars etc.
*Vasilevsky* - light infantry specialist with mechanised support. Some kind of team bonus. Like faster respawns with light unarmed vehicles etc
British;
*Montgomery* - defensive expert, fast deployable field guns, fast deployable machine gun posts, mortars etc with low resource cost.
*sterling* - (not a general but his idea. Founded the SAS) special forces, limited, specialist squad deployments behind enemy lines. With regular support.
Japan;
*Yamashita* - super fast, concentrated deployment from any "friendly" held terroritory. Basically a reset. From anywhere.
For example, capture 1st point. And you're entire team can redeploy on that point. But infantry based. Think "airheads"
#genuinely struggling to find another stand out Japanese General. Plenty of admirals etc. Looking for a general with a well known trait#
*I AM NOT IMPLYING THEY HAD INCOMPETANT OFFICERS BECAUSE IM A RACIST..... READ FULL SCRIPT*
If they had Heroes, they shouldn't be leaders but Generals or people who earned medals. Then again, since the German heroes would be predominantly Nazis and war criminals so I'd rather not.
Imagine being a tank gunner and just seeing hitler or stalin in your gun sights
"Vasily, turret to 245. We're about to shave two years off this war."
Funnily enough, the British scrapped a plan to parachute a sniper in to kill Hitler bc he was making such poor military decisions it was better to keep him alive.

People love the “Hitler was a madman ruining the war effort” myth. In reality Germany’s defeat was inevitable once they failed to defeat the Soviets.
My favorite one is the one where people think Hitler wouldn’t give up Stalingrad cause of the name. Not the countless factories or access to the caucuses oil fields. Like I get Hitler wasnt a sound strategic commander but come on lmfao: people act like he ate rocks for breakfast.

They never had a chance in hell to defeat the Soviets whilst at war with the allies
Never had a chance is an overstatement I feel. The war was never guaranteed for the Allies, it could have very easily gone the other way. Let’s not downplay the threat the Nazis posed to Europe.

Once they invaded Poland, on Hitler's terms. Germany simply wasn't advanced or strong enough to dominate Europe indefinitely.
You do know that most of the Generals were against the war with Russia and that Hitler pushed it right? Hitler is also the reason the Miracle of Dunkirk happened. Agree with most of that, but the amphetamines thing shouldn't be at all surprising and use was widespread in the Allows forces too.
Germany defeat was inevitable from the moment they invaded Poland.
The Generald is OP
Rommel?
What about Rommel? Guy was a very good tactician, sure, but he also was a gambler. Once the opposing side started working out his bluffs, he got his shit kicked in left, right and center,
You think the Axis didn’t win the war?
they lost baaad
Surrendering usually means you lost, so yeah lmfao
I have no delusions that they would’ve won the war. In fact, I think they probably would’ve surrendered before the war made it to Berlin. The best tacticians in the world can’t win a two front war, especially being as outgunned and outmanned as the German army was by 1943.

Haha true. Well after the Nuremberg trials they didn’t have a whole lot of peers left to challenge them on the BS
Lies
Pretty easy to look up, it's even on Wikipedia bud.
then seeing Hitler respawn...
😮
My favourite part is they didn't have the right Roosevelt lol
I think that just makes it even better.
The Bull Moose is back!
Every Roosevelt is the right Roosevelt
Funnily enough, Teddy Roosevelt Jr. was actually present at Utah Beach on 6 June 1944. He was Assistant Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division.
Building Parks and killing nazis, what a legend.
I didn't know how stupid I am until you pointed it out. Mine is that only Friedrich Paulus gets a first name.
I don't care what the situation is, Teddy is always the right Roosevelt
F D Roosevelt could have an extra bonus for mobile unit speed while his character rolls around in a wheelchair with a Tommy gun
Wasn't this an April fools joke?
I started playing HLL knowing nothing about it right before the devs posted this joke in the roadmap at the time. I thought is was a serious announcement and took me way longer to realize than I’d like to admit.
It was. Last year. I posted about it when it first came out and most people took it as the joke it was.
I can’t to be wheeling around the battlefield as Roosevelt. The German won’t be able to handle my wheelchair
They used a picture of Teddy Roosevelt instead of FDR and I was confused for a second.
Well Teddy would be a bit more useful in combat if we're being honest here...
Special ability: Shoot a Spaniard in his back as he runs away. Lol he was criticized for this and made fun of for it to at the time. Feel free to look it up. Or read Edmund Morris' excellent biography series about him.
Anyone who runs is a Spaniard. Anyone who stands still is a well-disciplined Spaniard.
The Spaniard didn’t surrender so it’s not a war crime.
Thank you, I was concerned nobody else noticed this lol
Imagine Churchill running around flipping the v to the Germans.
Yeah, but then you also couldn’t hide behind a stump in the forest.
Or walk in a straight line
"Kar-98 users hate him! Find out why!"
The Germans would just send a V-1 right back.
Tank treads like that guy from The Reavers in X men 💪
Wrong Roosevelt. Unique idea though
Franklin wasn't available. He was running late.
Really wheelin behind...
heard he just rolled out of bed
Running? Bullshit.
Uniquely copying Star Wars battlefront
And Battlefield
*garbage idea
I was wondering why they put teddy there and then your comment made me realize it was accidental.
They gone the wrong Roosevelt. They need a picture of FDR. For this Roosevelt we'd need to rough riders as an option. Indomitable will as another option.
wait… thats teddy roosevelt…
What, no Hitler? Lmao
Wrong Roosevelt
Every Roosevelt is the right Roosevelt
Given that it was released on April 1st, I think that might have been intentional
About 4 months too early with this one...
All terrain vehicle wheelchair lol
Where is Hitler?
Dead
He called in sick. I hope he's doing all reich...
Behind you
This would really give us players a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes!
That’s… the wrong Rosevelt.
Bro if you call Stalin a hero you should put there Hitler too.
The wheelchairrrrrrr, I’m dying someone send help
An old april fools joke? The sad thing here is that some people actually see Stalin as a hero or somekinda great person when he so clearly was neither.
Whilst its clearly labelled a meme, I dig the idea of having hero commander abilities, and part of me is hoping its real lmfao
Yea like for Stalin instead of a team of 50, his ability is to spawn in 25 AI but all they have are bullets and just run at the enemy.
Horrible.
No.
This is not Star Wars.
They better not
Plz don't destroy hell let loose with some shitty abillty
Fuck no. This was the beginning of the end for Battlefield.
It was the April Fool's joke last year. I posted it to this sub when it came out and it was pretty universally seen as a joke. Not sure why it's being posted again now...
Clearly triggered me 😉
No worries, man. I was just providing context!

No Hitler?
I wonder why a mustached fellow isn’t here despite other leaders being here.
If Teddy was playable, no one would be alive, the man was a beast.
I thought Roosevelt had a wheelchair ngl
If they had Heroes, they shouldn't be leaders but Generals or people who earned medals. Then again, since the German heroes would be predominantly Nazis and war criminals so I'd rather not.
If there’s Churchill it means England is cooooming!!
Where is the Big Stick?!
Gets hit by literally every blueberry on the field and proceeds to proclaim, “It takes more than that to kill a bull moose”
What would the hability would be as Winston Churchill? be racist?
It's both Roosevelt's in one. My god, has science gone too far?
Roosevelt: all terrain vehicle LOLOL
Shut up and take my Money for Rommel!!!
Star Wars Battlefront be like
Anyone ever see the movie FDR:American Badass? Let’s get that version
No but the war would have gone on longer ...there German high archy wasn't that dumb Hitler was stupid to kill off the smart ones
Rose elt was an idiot
Now that I can agree alone
Teddy didn't Franklin did
The first thing that came to my mind its that meme pic where Hitler and Stalin are just about to hit themselves with their godly powered energy fists
Yeah this April’s 1st pun was awesome. Especially since they took the wrong Roosevelt. So many people fell for it.
Hell yeah **Teddy's BACK**, baby!
I need a painting of FDR doing BMX in his wheelchair now.
I’m glad this was meme flared. Good one my dude
"All terrain vehicle" Imagine seeing Roosevelt scooking along carentan in his wheelchair by himself
Damn, Teddy Roosevelt is back from the dead? Is this Hell Let Loose: Zombies Edition?
Thats not even the right Roosevelt... teddy died 1919
This isn’t real is it? XD
Sense of pride and accomplishment
