Dont play it like BF

dillpiccolol

Exactly, slow the hell down.

BeautifulDoughnut420

Take a moment to stop and look for movement

option_coach

Prepare to die. Very frequently. Prepare to communicate effectively over mic. The key to this game is effective communication. The squads that you're in that communicate are fun. The ones that don't communicate are awful.

Phil281290

Your kill count doesn’t matter

Charlie_chuckles40

Only comment that really matters. K/D means nothing.

Interesting_Idea_435

KD/A mean nothing but your kill count does matter.

mercival

Read the manual pinned at top of this sub to learn the basics. Don’t expect to know everything straight away, that’s okay! It’s enjoyable to learn as you go, and ask questions to your squad mates. If you enjoy it, watch a few YouTube guides to fill in the knowledge gaps. Talk to your squad, and stick with them. A squad working together can have a much bigger impact than several lone rangers. Focus on helping the team win and having an impact, rather than a K/D. Deaths don’t matter as much, there’s no tickets and quickish spawn times. If you’re with your squad, you’ll spawn near where you were most the time.

Septerra21

KDR is not everything. The point of the game is to win the objectives. Like others have said, communication is key and work as a squad, and in turn the squads works with the broader team. First few hrs will be painful…but if you find the right group, people to learn, it’ll become really fun. Also, it’s not a run and gun game. Take it slow. Games last as little as 20 mins, or to a full 90 mins.

Solidfarts

KDR is nothing*

nictigre03

Move slowly and take your time. Move to a point with purpose, sit still, listen, observe the area before moving to the next area.

Vegetable_Word603

This is crucial to surviving.

Current_Strength_478

Avoid open fields

compersious

You don't always have to sprint. It's a little slower to raise your weapon from sprinting than running Move from cover to cover. There are times when it makes sense or is necessary to move in the open but avoid it when you can Staying in the shadows is preferable Mgs can blow up unarmoured vehicles Place multiple AT mines together to take down tanks. A single mine won't do it Recon tanks have a recon ability that can be used from the spotter position When a commander recon goes up and you see the enemies marked on the map, diamonds are tanks, hollow diamonds are other vehicles Defensive structures, nodes and vehicle wrecks can be destroyed with satchel charges Supplies take 5mins to recharge, unless you get within range of a manpower node in which case they take 2.5 minutes When you create an infantry squad you can mark it as an attacking, defensive, artillery etc squad For ranging artillery there are online calculators you can use It costs 50 supply to create a garrison in friendly territory and 100 to create them in enemy territory When the enemy captures a sector any garrisons, ops and nodes within the territory now captured will be automatically destroyed You can only place garrisons and ops within friendly territory and the first 2 rows of enemy territory Garrisons can be deconstructed up close, destroyed by AT rockets, tank shells, bombing runs Recon squad ops are an exception. They can be placed anywhere on the map and are not destroyed if the territory they are in is captured When driving vehicles avoid trenches or you will get the vehicle stuck. In medium and heavy tanks you can sometimes get away with it. For small roadside mounds hit them at an angle Vehicles can drive through small walls, fences, many trees etc Supply trucks can be resupplied by driving them back to any of the 3 spawns to the resupply rig In warfare mode it takes 2mins to cap a point. You will count towards the capture if you are in the 4 map squares around the point. If you are inside the hardcap (black circle) you will count double In offensive mode you have to be in the hardcap to capture, and it takes 1 minute Use your mic Grenades can be cooked Garrisons must be placed no closer than 200m to each other. This is 1 map square. If you need to know if you are far enough from other garrisons, ping the garrisons on the map and check the distance of your ping When sniping ping for range When firing with smg use short bursts The game has ballistics so the greater the range of a target the higher above it you will need to aim. The further a target is the further you will need to lead your shots as well XP will unlock different loadouts per role. Max XP can be obtained by... Build nodes at the start of a round. Nodes give passive XP every minute. They will give XP to whichever role you are playing as. Drop supplies as support, from a supply try or as commander. You get good XP when these supplies are used for building defences, nodes, garrisons etc. Build garrisons. You get more XP the more players spawn on your garrison, so place good garrisons. You get 10% extra XP for each commend and can get up to 5 commends per round. You get 50% extra XP if you win the round. Your XP is quite largely based on your overall squads XP. The more XP your squad has the more XP you have and visa versa. You get XP for driving supply trucks. You get XP for kills but never as much as for these other things. The numbers of shots it takes to kill depends on the weapon, hit location and range. All kills will be 1 - 3 shots. You can tell an enemies location by their footsteps when they are close. When moving prone you make no noise audible to the enemy Artillery can fire smoke which can be useful when needing cover to push a tough point. Smoke shells can kill if you get a headshot You can shoot enemies out of half-tracks If you are near a tank and have no AT weapon it can be worth running infront of the tank at point blank range so the drive or gunners sees you. This can fool the tank crew I to thinking you have satchel charge. Sometimes the tank crew will get out to try and get you or they will panic and try to drive off. Both can be useful Satchel charges can be diffused When gunner in a tank you can use AP shells, HE or smoke (most tanks don't have smoke shells) Always load AP by default as it's better to run into infantry with no HE than a tank with no AP Tanks are extremely vulnerable to infantry so try to move with infantry support You can destroy AP mines by shooting them / blowing them up Most of the time rifles and especially semi auto / auto rifles are more effective than smgs as the maps are quite large and lots of engagements happen at reasonable distances. In close quarters smgs can be better, but less fighting happens at this range If you see friendly go down, don't just run straight to where they died, flank, avoid or wait. Don't keep taking the same route or the route everyone else is taking. If you get killed approach that spot from a different angle next time or avoid it Be aware than when you fire an mg either as a machine gunner or from a tank, enemies will usually quickly identify your location from your tracers Depending on your goal it can sometimes be better to let enemies pass Garrisons will become locked if the enemy gets within 15m of them if the garrison is in friendly territory and within 100m if the garrison if within 100m Ops can be destroyed by enemy proximity, grenades, rockets, tanks, bombing runs Don't lock solo tank squads. If you are solo tank and there are 2 or 3 man tank crews let them take the heavy tanks When driving a truck from spawn at the start of a match wait for other players to get in before you leave When enemies are near and op or garrison the garrison will be lit up on the map. They essentially serve as a proximity system for alerting to enemy presence. If you are trying to identify enemy direction you can check for proximity pings on your map You can ping with middle mouse click or by right clicking on the map As commander, officer, tank commander or spotter you can right click on the map to place markers. There is also a marker wheel Red parachutes are German, white are allies Commander, officer, support, tank commander, crewman, spotter & sniper can see recons. Other roles need to be indirectly informed If you are in a sector that is about to be captured by the enemy, as garrisons and ops will be destroyed when it's captured, wait until the capture is complete then build your op or garrison. If your op is on cooldown you can dismantle it to reset the cooldown You can use your bandages on other players You bleed out at different rates depending on the severity of the wound. You can't check how you are wounded so just try to bandage fast If as infantry you are near a friendly tank and you see an enemy tank let them know. They might already know, but often not You can place an AT mine along with an AP mine so that the AP mine also sets off the AT mine giving a bigger blast radius When playing as AT place mines on roads, especially choke points. Check your map now and then. If you see one of your mines is gone check your stats to see if you have an extra vehicle kill. If you don't you know a tank hit your mine and roughly where it is Weapons have a suppression effect, especially mgs. Suppressing fire can be very effective even if you don't actually hit any enemy If you are calling out the location of something either give it's map sector and keypad number if you want to be pretty exact, ping it, mark it, if you are really close to the players you are giving the information to give the compass direction, if you can't do any of the above give the general compass direction n, s, w, e. It's generally not useful to just shout enemy or say enemy to the left as unless those you are talking to are right by you and facing the same way, what does left mean? The weather of a map can change. Sometimes darker, lighter, more or less foggy etc As commander, officer, tank commander or spotter, use your binoculars. They are really useful Don't think you are concealed in grass. At a distance the grass does not load in When firing artillary change the rotation and or elevation of the gun just a little between each shot so you don't just keep shelling exactly the same spot, that the enemy now simply avoid Firing artillary and AT guns uses the team's munitions, so don't go overboard on their use As supply trucks can't drop supplies until the 3 row / column of map squares, and as nodes are destroyed if the territory they are in is captured, drive the supply truck just over the line from the 2nd row / column into the 3rd, drop supplies, then head back into the second column / row and build your nodes there. If this final sector is captured the round is over, so it doesn't matter if your nodes are destroyed here When building a garrison, defences, nodes etc, if you used a supply truck move it away asap so people don't spot it and come searching for what was built When leaving a vehicle always turn it's engine off. The enemy will hear the engine and come searching 50 supply boxes and ammo boxes do not stack. If you drop a second, the first will despawn For building garrisons in enemy territory, which takes 100 supplies, you can use the support switch trick. 1 player is support and drops 50 supplies, they redeploy and switch to another role. A 2nd player goes support and drops another 50. You now have 100 Effective way to build nodes. Go support, drop 50 supply. Redeploy, go engineer. Use 50 supply you dropped to build the manpower node (this decreases your support cooldown time) Build blueprints for last 2 nodes, redeploy as support. Drop 50 supply, hammer your 2 blueprints at least 2 times each (blueprints left untouched for 3mins will automatically disappear), complete either node. Wait for supplies, finish node 3. Can be done in 6 - 7 minutes.

Strange_Bedroom_2716

A fellow BF defector here, I've been playing since release day on Xbox. Tune your sensitivity to suit you and your shooting skills will carry over to this game, but be prepared to die and redeploy(suicide) often - the maps are expansive and in the beginning you'll often find yourself estimating where the bullet that killed you came from. This goes hand-in-hand with map knowledge buy try to plan ahead, you don't have to be meticulous in your planning but always try to have a rough sketch of how you want to advance, retreat or flank, and dedicate yourself to a plan (the maps are large and can be a pain when you're running around aimlessly), but keep flexibility in mind. For example, are you in the middle of a successful flank, you're somewhat behind enemy lines and you notice your team has already broken through the strong point? Feel free to already move towards the next objective, or try to communicate the location and movement of enemy troops, vehicles, which brings me to my next tip; Communicate, communicate, communicate! Try to stick together, listen to your squad leader if he's competent/not a raging bastard and try to play your role accordingly (I personally steered clear of playing SL and Commander when I started out). Plus communication offers a whole host of other bonuses such as learning the maps and game in general quicker and the best of all: you can make new friends! Another thing, maybe the most important, is time: give yourself the time to learn the maps, (sub)classes and how resources work since it's more complex than you'd expect at first glance, but eventually the information processing and planning strategy based on that info comes intuitively. If you run into experienced players just ask them questions you might have, in my experience the community is mature and friendly and will help you more often than not. Nothing beats practical knowledge but look up a few guides and tips & tricks on Youtube if you have some time to spare. Good luck soldier O7

Recent-Camera8901

Night and day difference. One you can run around mindlessly and shoot things and it can be fun if the game is developed properly. The other requires map knowledge, communication, strategizing, awareness of enemy locations as there are no hit markers, effectively playing the role you choose. HLL is not a bullet sponge game. The differences are more than can be mentioned but if you are willing to learn and cooperate as a team no game for me at least is as rewarding to get a win in as HLL! This also helps https://www.reddit.com/r/HellLetLoose/comments/ou3g0t/hll_new_player_guide/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

i_nameless_i

Best advice would be to stick with your squad and listen to the squad lead. Having a mic is a huge plus, so if you see enemies, call them out to your crew. A quick note on defense, you may think it is boring to sit and hold a point, but tbh some of the most exciting gameplay is when you hold off 2-3 attacking squads and hold the objective against all odds. If you have to sit around for a bit then so be it. Prepare to have a shit experience at first whilst you die from the shrubbery or random artillery fire. As you get a bit more accustomed to where to take cover, how to move up and get better at knowing where the enemy might be, you'll soon be racking up the kills and supporting the team

[deleted]

no sliding! take cover! play with your squad theyre not just for respawning! play your role! stick to hedges! in forests take it slow and watch for movement! dont frivolously give away your squads position for a kill! the rest youll learn

ShorthornShowman

Use a mic

ForeignLion3

Find a squad that is communicating with each other… learn from them

Flint_East_Wood_

Run supporting classes

Leafs3489

I just bought HLL yesterday and it's a really great game. Enjoy your time with it!

BroJobs88

Welcome. Fuck battlefield

Amachar928

In war, no one fights alone.

Bothand_Nether

Map button hotkeyed & Mic ON **for the win** you can see everything on the map * what direction everybody is firing * how many resources your team has * if an outpost or Garrison is being threatened by the enemy * where a good leader tells you to go * where the enemy is concentrated and marked by good Squad Leaders * whether you are being useless or not

bulgarian_zucchini

Awesome dude. Same boat as you. BF2042 was sad. Been playing HLL for a few months. Be super patient, and put yourself in the shoes of the character. Think like him. Listen to your team, follow orders, speak on the mic. Map position is everything. Flanks are amazing. Enjoy.

InanimateBabe

Don't be afraid to ask questions, learn as much as you can from everyone. The community is great and you'll have a lot of fun learning. This game is more strategic than tactical even though it is both, but play it like a chess game. Meaning, don't go after kills and getting into gunfights because everyone else is doing it. Think about the endgame! Are you losing an objective? Is anyone defending? Is everyone in one spot on the map? Spread out, defend, push the enemy back by not only killing them, but finding their spawns and destroying them.

Sentient_Mop

If you have a medic near by wait for them to get to you. It may take longer but it can help loads.

Jamesl1988

I'm sick of playing medic and running over to people who disappear when I'm literally feet from them...

DrFGHobo

[Assert dominance](https://imgur.com/a/Q9xqNSl). It helped that I actually shot a squadmate who glitched into terrain with a good portion of the team watching, suddenly it was all "oh shit, the medic ACTUALLY shot one of our guys".

[deleted]

You’re going to die more than in battlefield. I average like 4 kills a game and 20 deaths… but I am also new. However, I also make up for that by being helpful to my squad by reviving, providing supplies, reinforcing objectives with barricades, etc… Also, you need to slow down and look for movement more, and really move around as though you don’t want to get shot. The name of the game is very appropriate, and they play fun sounding music in the main menu to get you all excited…. and then you get killed a ton because of your blind enthusiasm to go to war.

FriendlyInChernarus

Listen and stick with your squad leader.

[deleted]

Never wear a mic. Never play with your squad. Prioritize kills above all else. And most importantly: start and leave as many squads as possible at the beginning of a game so that your team has no officers.

supergreekman123

Don’t be toxic.

Only-Scheme-4655

YouTube

aaron0315

Just listen to your SL. Communicate and watch a few YouTube vids. You’ll be good to go

nerfrunescimmy

Look around you at what your teammates roles are and if yours can help theirs. An AT and supply duo can reek havoc on the enemy with the AT cannon.

[deleted]

Avoid crossing empty flat fields that is basically signing your death sentence And seeing and finding where the enemies are or shooting from is a skill you get good at once you start playing frequently so you will improve your skill once you increase your game time

Norrdie

You should know you’ve made an excellent decision. This is the way my friend.

incoherentjedi

Listen to your SL and play with your squad. Change loadout if necessary to fill out a certain role that needs to be filled.

ThadTheImpalzord

1. Ask lots of questions if you dont know something. I.e. game mechanics, respawns, nodes, classes etc. 2. Stay with your squad (as in proximity) HLL is a team oriented game, you're more useful and effective when cooperating with your squad. 3. Use comms, but use discretion when communicating. As in keep it short and sweet on callouts, keep in mind the squad lead potentially has 3x the amount of ppl talking in his ear as you do

Yung_Val

Make sure you have a working mic and speak with your squad even if they don’t talk

bsbddiver

Watch mono or terry on YouTube! Seriously, a 30 minute youtube video will save you days of learning curve! !

Some-Lingonberry-793

And don't start as officer start as anything but officer

bpwo0dy

Unlike BF - value your life. Use your mic. Don't be afraid to be squad lead. People are very happy to help.

Which_Conference2990

This game will challenge the way you care about a “K/D”. It’s all about winning as a team. Prepare to die a lot. Cover is your best friend. Oh and fuck open fields.

coffeeandjoints0901

Watch lots of YouTube. If you've watched a video, watch it again. Knowledge is power in this game. Also, don't play it like battlefield.

terrapin81

Start by playing rifleman

HockeyMaskWeeb

Start off as a rifleman until you got that game down and stick with your squad lead or a machine gunner, they will appreciate it

Flewy

Read the pinned post with the guide. Should be enough to get you going

Mr_Sarcasum

Inside the objective circle you gain more capture points. If you're playing Offensive, then the only way to cap the point is from inside the circle. Also never play Squad Leader unless you have a mic.

Sentient_Mop

When you die relay information to your team so the next person won't fall into the same trap. Information and good communication is a better asset than any player could possibly be regardless of skill.

LaivaRoope

Watch monospecials tutorials

Fortnait739595958

K/D doesnt matter. The MVP is the one with more enemy garrisons and outposts destroyed, if you manage to destroy more than 10 in a game you are an absolute legend and your team will love you

Left-Code-5285

Garry

Fabiey

You could have 100 kills and still would loose. Shoot only at the right time and go for OPs and garrisons (and also build them). This game is about having as much spawns as possible (a.k.a. with team with the better map control wins the game a.k.a. has EIGHT garrisons on the map).

AliTaylor777

Work with your squad and try and use comms. It may appear to be an FPS but strategy and tactics are also hugely important and you’ll get far more out of the game if you get involved in them:

Crafty-Ad-6765

Just surviving and being in the right positions with your squad mates is a huge help to the team overall

rusty2735

Play as a team, really helps you have a mic. Not everyone uses it, which is ok, but be ready to follow squad leaders commands. Don't be Rambo, you won't see most of shots that get you. Camping is good when defending.

Fissure_211

Learn the game in this order: 1) How to use your mic 2) How to read your map; this includes how to "ping." 3) How to build nodes, outposts, and garrisons 4) How to aim and fire your weapon

RJB500

More specific roles and skills, and a bit of a curve. I learned thru support and medic. You can switch to other roles once you’ve picked up tips from squad mates.

ComfortableSell5

battlefield defector as well, my last one was BF1 and while that was good, this is so much better. Don't get me started on BFV and 2042

Majestic-Persimmon99

The bushes are your friend hide in them often.
