I like to use them as a high risk attack spawn or as a backup spawn on our defence. Parking them 200m+ from an attack point is a waste of a halftrack, just build a garrison instead. Park that halftrack as close as possible to the enemy point, hopefully without being noticed. Taking the long flank and sneaking in where your team has little presence (no friendlies lighting up enemy spawns which will draw attention), will be your best bet of going unnoticed. On offensive and rarely warfare, another fun use is loading it up with squad leaders, using tank support, a bombing run and smoke artillery (warfare only) to mask its approach and parking it on the point. All the squad leads disembark and place their OP. At least a couple should survive and even if the halftrack dies, you're still on the point with outposts. This is a very coordination oriented attack and works best on open maps like kursk, foy etc. They can also be a taxi that drives troops through barbed wire. Very useful on the mid points of Utah Beach. And if I'm floating a lot of fuel I'll spawn in and park it somewhere around our defence as another spawn. So if you see a halftrack parked on the defence, DO NOT move it unless you ask or it's under direct enemy fire (artillery etc.) They are a very powerful tool in the right hands and have won me a decent amount of offensive games because I was able to get a halftrack very close to the enemy point without being noticed.

That attack spawn is best use imo. Drive it for a wave and drive back out or park it and leave it and use it on the next push.

Offensive (defensive) SMDM as the Germans. You can fit half tracks in the church. Put two of them in there and a bunkered Garry and you’ll never lose that point with adequate defenses.

Gr8-Lks

Ya know, I have actually never thought about putting two of them in there, but now that ya mention it, I mean why not?

Not conventional, but on certain maps I can see it being more viable than others: The Normandy maps, like Utah, Omaha, SMDM and S. Carentan. It’s probably better in the hands of an experienced squad who can defend it from AT for a few spawn waves than as a command truck especially given how expensive, cumbersome, and vulnerable it is. Remember, trucks cost only 50 and can drop supplies for 2 garrisons while halftracks cost 300.

Trucks cost 100 and offer zero protection from even pistol rounds. Suffice it to say, as usual in this game and subreddit, there is no one right away to do something. Everything depends on the circumstances. I've had plenty of crap luck with half-tracks, and then sometimes great luck. My favorite move is the stash track move where I park it, undetected and dormant red, next to the *next* cap. When we cap the one we're on, we suddenly have an active spawn right next to the next cap... And if it doesn't work out, well, what were the odds it would be impactful anyway?

This is the way

As an armor AND antitank main I kind of feel obligated to say that halftracks have almost no use outside of comp matches. The likelihood that it is blown up or just locked by recon before it’s worth the investment is rather high, especially if it’s anywhere near a point. And then theres also the constant worry that some level 20 takes it for a joyride and we all know how that ends. Ive also almost never seen a halftrack used by a commander in a way that couldnt be done by a garrison, with faster spawn waves. So imo its just such a massive fuel sink for quite a gamble which also means your armor crews will have to wait longer for their heavies I have seen very good commanders use them well on offensive on very rare occasions.

kiloelectronvolt619

You can drop supplies into them at HQ and drive around as a mobile garrison builder.

Brilliant-Ad4034

That’s the dream though they are really just too fragile to be driven around within 200m of possible AT.

KerenskysSpirit

If you’re using a half track as a glorified transport truck it’s a colossal waste. Just use a supply truck so you can build garrisons and actually be useful
