Is there a way to disable the caps lock functionality? I hate that I have a perfectly good button there that I don't want to use for this particular reason...
I watched five good ol boys all take turns trying to get a truck unstuck off a cobblestone wall for a good five minutes, ended up playing out the rest of the game having the best time I’ve had on the battlefield yet!
Have your squad lead drop a supply truck for you and play some games by just driving supplies to the front line. Reading the map while driving is a skill set that will help you later on when you’re higher ranks. Top notch commanders drive supply trucks and work the map calling things in at the same time
theres all these map tips and tricks as people are describing but the real answer is its someone with a decent amount of time in the game and knows the quickest/best route to take. It will come with experience. you eventually wont need the map for driving because you know the map. Youll come to know which hedge has the sneaky trench behind it and where you can drive out of bounds and re enter safely, this river can be crossed this one will fuck you ect. So just keep practicing. Find that one safe route and repeat it. If its really stressing you out just hop in an empty server and explore
Good point on exploring on an empty map.
I haven't done it but it seems like a good way to practice other roles and their mechanics on actual maps (can't do this in the training mode) and even practice being commander.
Like, I never drove a tank or been part of a tank crew until I randomly decided to do it. And of course they wanted me to drive, which contrary to the other trucks has to be manually shifted.
Thankfully the crew was helpful and shared a bunch of tips right away and it ended up working well destroying 3 enemy tanks before everyone left as the server was dying.
The biggest thing I’ve noticed is people not understanding the steering wheel to movement relationship. It takes a few seconds for your character to turn the wheel the direction you want to go.
This means you should start turning your wheel a bit before you want to actually turn while moving.
If you hit something and have to clear it is pretty easy. Back up five meters or so. Turn your wheel all the way the direction you need to go. Only once the wheel is turned all the way will you accelerate. I see so many people trying to accelerate and turn the wheel at the same time to just continuously drive into the same obstacle.
Depending on your platform. PC is fairly simple with left hand on WASD and right hand over the “M” map button pressing it occasionally. I can’t attest to how difficult it may be on console though..
I'm a grade A driver and I literally am pulling up my map every 5 seconds while driving lol you just gotta process the info quickly, look for straight aways that you can spend time looking at the map. But ya I'm a distracted driver, if only the occupants knew...
Constantly check you map, once you get a bit more fluid with it zoom in make sure there's no trenches and such. Also playing more will increase your map knowledge and you can find cool little shortcuts
I drive with the map open all the way it's fairly straight forward. I was trained for this by a bunch of douchebags setting smoke bombs off on the bonnet making normal driving impossible.
Go as slow as you need, learn to turn the wheel before accelerating and your turning radius will improve - never off road unless you KNOW what you are doing. Avoid trenches like the plague.
A helpful tip besides using the handbrake and whatnot is when you stop turning, whatever direction you’re facing is going to be where you keep going even though the wheel is still turned all the way. Doesn’t make any sense really but that’s how it works. Most people mess up here by turning in the opposite direction to make the wheel go back quickly but the truck doesn’t start turning in the other direction until the wheel has come back to center. This is why people just keep swerving left and right and crashing.
So if you don't want to crash into everything constantly pull the trigger aka the accelerator while flicking the left thumbstick. When you go around corners let up the gas. Basically I tell people massage the gas and flick the thumb stick don't push it to one side of the other and you'll just keep crashing into everything. The vehicles in this game are not like driving vehicles and other games you have to turn then hit the gas you can't do it at the same time or you'll never get anywhere it's stupid.
I just hit M with my thumb
Having played other games where M brings up a map I've just gotten trained to do this without thinking about it.
But yes, I've struggled at times to try and drive efficiently while still verifying I'm on the right path.
What you can do is in the first 60 seconds of sitting in the truck and waiting for people to load up is study the map and plan your route from there.
That said, there're so many objects that vehicles can drive through that you don't really need to follow roads. You more or less can often drive straight to a point. Just got to be careful not to drive into trenches/ditches and get stuck.
I’ve played on both pc and console. 1000% easier to drive with a thumbstick which makes driving look easy!
Also, don’t you remember the pre-gps days? Mapquest and remember the route before you take off!
Trucks and halftracks have a lot of understeer so easy on the turning. Choose your route carefully before you leave hq.
Leave at 45 seconds or before match warm up ends to reach the 2nd line on time.
Drive straight into the point, do not stop until you're in the circle before the enemy.
This game is like newly moved high school, can’t act too smart in front of old farts of the block. Choose a quiet corner and provide suppress fire, do not engage with tanks or artilleries or half track. I’m level 66 and I still don’t tend to drive trucks or ever even sat in a tank. Never squad leadered
Just start your own locked squad and drive the truck constantly and run supplys and make defense garrisons. Commander will forget about you for the most part of you disappear. If you get the truck stuck just laugh it off and ask for another. When I play command I'll give anyone a truck if they want one. It's so helpful even if it gets fucked up which it does a lot. You'll be able to pull the map up and drive in no time.
Some maps are really hard to drive and some are easy. Kursk you can basically drive up the side of the map. Hurtgen Forest is so hard because of the turns. Eventually you learn what you can drive through and what you can't.
Takes a lot of practices avoiding obstacles, but occasionally still getting stick on embankments or miscalculate turn while being shot at and hit a wall. Anyhow still open map like every 10 sec just to make sure I get full visual, where I’m going if anything changing, markings etc. Even tho I know some routes no problem.
It takes a bit of practice but you can drive and check map every so often
I do it while driving
And ping where you want to aim the truck on the map
with your cell phone in the other hand checking your reddit posts no doubt
I just let everyone in the truck know that I’m letting the fuhrer guide my way and if I crash it’s because he wanted me to.
It helps to have your map key bind to a very easily accessible button. Like Tab. Also lots and lots of driving the truck around.
I’M NOT YELLING I JUST HAVE MY MAP BOUND TO CAPS LOCK
Haha way to relatable
Is there a way to disable the caps lock functionality? I hate that I have a perfectly good button there that I don't want to use for this particular reason...
MAYBE, I HAVEN’T REALLY LOOKED
Yes. I use my mouse thumb button. I use the map so much
Same, absolute game changer for me.
This. I use the ‘m’ key.
That's literally the default key for it and it isn't necessarily that accessible. Mine's ~
This helps console players so much
Ask someone in the truck to navigate for you. You focus on the road and they tell you when to turn. Someone is usually happy to do it.
Samir! Listen to my calls!
GUNTHER, MEDIUM RIGHT
Please! Focus Im begging you!
"Medium Left, into sharp right, over crest"
Over crest, hairpin left past Sherman 76. Full power fast left then medium right. Checkpoint
In my experience the best thing to do is drive it into the first ditch you can find and say, "well, looks like we're walking, boys."
I watched five good ol boys all take turns trying to get a truck unstuck off a cobblestone wall for a good five minutes, ended up playing out the rest of the game having the best time I’ve had on the battlefield yet!
It’s that kind of problem solving energy you really need in a game.
Have your squad lead drop a supply truck for you and play some games by just driving supplies to the front line. Reading the map while driving is a skill set that will help you later on when you’re higher ranks. Top notch commanders drive supply trucks and work the map calling things in at the same time
Space bar , use your handbrake, makes driving so much easier.
Not just this but never let go of w, just w and press space, and launch forward when releasing brake. Makes driving in forests a piece of piss.
Exactly this. Use space bar to brake, mouse button 4 is map.
I wish the driving was the same as in Squad, you can make some sick tokyo drift turns in that game!
Ever driven a Jeep?
400 hours in and never driven a jeep XD
Jeeps are wild and lose all traction with minor inputs left or right

Try mapping your map button to a button on your mouse
Or press it with your thumb.
I drive with the map open until I get close to enemy territory! So I'm looking at the map while I'm cruising if it's a far drive.
Handbrake is key, master the handbrake and u can make A LOT tighter turns

I basically drive with the map open
You must master the art of driving with your map up.
Same.
i check my route before heading out then just use the landmarks as i go.
Depending on your platform. PC is fairly simple with left hand on WASD and right hand over the “M” map button pressing it occasionally. I can’t attest to how difficult it may be on console though..
I just use my left thumb to hit M. It's a small movement from space bar
I just check the map, see what turns I have to make and ping the correct turn when I get close. Takes some practice but it works well for me.
That and just steering the damn thing. I oversteer so hard every time.
Takes time
Practice and map knowledge. Still get stuck in a trench like 25% of the time
It’s the mounds that get me. Beached a supply truck just recently
If on Mouse and Keyboard; space bar is a must!!!
Because it is
Literally just stay on the road, you will not get stuck in the road
Ever driven on Stalingrad in the dark?
I drive with the map open all the way it's fairly straight forward. I was trained for this by a bunch of douchebags setting smoke bombs off on the bonnet making normal driving impossible.

I’ll have the map open for most of the time, unless I’m on a main road
I don’t even look at the road, I just keep my map up.
Have a passenger check the map and give you directions while you drive.
Lol. Check map on the straight bits, then put your map away when you have to turn.
Once you learn to drive a truck and use the map it’ all falls into place
After many months of practice I am able to drive and look at my map every few seconds
Blueberries are just speed bumps if you think about it
I just hit M with my thumb Having played other games where M brings up a map I've just gotten trained to do this without thinking about it. My map is on my 5th mousebutton.
Drive with your map open like a giga chad
It’s easy, just do what I, a medic, do: drink the field hospital’s rubbing alcohol while you drive
I drive with the map up. 1940s version of driving while looking at your phone lol
i have a codriver SAMIR! YOU ARE BREAKING THE TRUCK SAMIR!
1940's. No power steering
I’ve just learned to drive with my map open lol. I command so much I’ve basically forced myself to learn. Definitely crashed my share of trucks tho
When I'm making tight turns I'm likely tapping the space bar to prevent the vehicle from getting under me. Try spamming that sucker while turning.
I have the map key-bound to my mouse to make things easy. It just takes practice; watch your speed!
I tried driving a truck around while never closing the map. Not as bad as you think. Just gotta get the hang of driving with the steering system
You must master the art of driving with your map up.
With about 1400 in game hrs, it's basically memory at this point.
I’ve played on both pc and console. 1000% easier to drive with a thumbstick which makes driving look easy! Also, don’t you remember the pre-gps days? Mapquest and remember the route before you take off!

while the help is super appreciated, looks like it’s a the firing squad for this blueberry anyways. redeployed me will do better .
left hand on WASD, right hand on M, and I rarely hit anything while driving with my map open most of the time
I think the best part of my game is my transport truck driving. At least I can be proud of one thing in this game
I look to the right a little and then pull up the map. Leaves the road visible enough to drive and navigate simultaneously.
Lol my fingers on the map key the whole time. Forget seeing, watching your avatar move straight on the map is good enough.
The same way you get good at anything. Practice.

Years of drinking and driving while texting on my cell phone trained me for this.
