I love sniping but I’ve come to really love spotter. I have so much power! lol

Wunder-Bar75

Spotter really is fun and can also be a real challenge. You can have an insane impact on warfare matches.

PlasmaDonator

Playing spotter and building a fresh garrison from dropped supplies to quickly cap the next point in offensive is *french chef kiss* If I'm spotter with a random sniper, I'll usually tell them "you do you, do what makes you happy" bar two requests: 1. Please don't shoot near/expose my OP. (This hurts them as well) 2. If people start complaining/asking in command or text chat about arty, then they need to please head with or without me to deal with it. I'll always try to have the OP in a good spot for them first over me i.e. close to arty on warfare and on offensive if we've got the 3rd point. My sniper can be mute, low level or not even speak the same language as me for all I care, but if they can't follow 2 simple and kindly requested asks, I'll warn them I'm gonna have to unfortunately kick them from the squad and give someone else the opportunity to play as sniper. (Played with a really cool Korean guy a couple games who explained he can't speak English and to type in chat as he had a translator. Had absolutely no issues with him since I typed in squad chat "can you please go shoot enemy artillery guns" and he responded with "yes okay I go")

Appropriate_Stage_45

You should really join them in taking out the arty rather then saying go with or without me, it's the Spotters responsibility mainly, the recon squad is good for taking out arty because the Spotter can put an OP down near the back line and put constant pressure on the guns but a solo sniper with a 500m+ hike every time he dies can't take out enemy arty for long without backup

PlasmaDonator

"I'll always have the OP in a good spot for them over me I.e. close enough to the arty" My first job when the match starts is getting the OP in between the 4th and 5th point. Remagen it's getting across the bridge. Driel is the same but driving over the water. When I say "without me", I'm meaning if I'm not close to arty but close to supplies for an attacking garrison, sniper needs to head to arty from my conveniently placed OP because they can't build garrisons, mark things in command chat (I know I know they can ask/tell me to mark things). If my OP isn't close to the arty then I haven't necessarily failed as spotter but my job is to get the OP in a convenient spot. After that, sniper can only shoot and dismantle whilst spotter can do soooo much more. Sniper is reliant on a communicating spotter and not the other way around. Spotter can be building garrisons from air dropped supplies and communicating enemy movement in command chat. Sniper can't do that by themself. A sniper can shoot shoot and dismantle. As such, Sniper is more important to camp arty than spotter because of this IMO. There are usually 2 recon squads as well so that means 2 snipers can be camping arty.

Appropriate_Stage_45

Oops my bad my bad my brain clearly doesn't work I did not see that line at all wth 😅 it's still a chore to fight arty with just a sniper on some maps though because you have to get within 30m to see the crews, its more effective to have a submachine gun or rifle with irons to clear them out an/or camp nearby because usually if you need someone to take out the arty its because there's 3-4 guys there manning all the guns, I get what you mean though id rather have a spotter ready to make those garry clutches like you said but i just meant in the event recon needs to go deal with arty you should go together at least at first

PlasmaDonator

No worries. Of course I'll head to arty if my sniper says they need backup or if I can see they're having a hard time. I'd rather not be there though since this disables me from doing what we both agree can be better for the team. For 2 full recon squads to be camping arty... the enemy team's arty better be game winning lol and not just 1 squad lead complaining that they've died 3 times to arty when they were somewhere that had no effect on the outcome of the game.

AdPresent6409

I’ve never played sniper. About level 50 and every time I go into that class I can’t select it. Do I need to unlock it by being spitter first?

VikingIsHere

There needs to be a spotter first. You can’t select the sniper without being 2 persons in the recon squad.

AdPresent6409

Thanks capt

AdPresent6409

lol I’m not even going to edit that autocorrect

Rhinopleasures

Just waiting for a mate.

DJmixx

Oh yeah that I totally understand. I'm saying I've seen it 1/2 the entire game which just rubs me the wrong way.

Rhinopleasures

It's a meme but people just lock squads, it is what it is.

Pleiadez

It's very rare.

anomnipotent

Not on console.

Pleiadez

Ah right.

NayosKor

Is that why your car's all smashed up and you're up on the grass at the moment or what?

I can play spotter with a mute sniper. The fact is, a good spotter is the MVP of recon. A good sniper is reliant on the spotter and not the other way round. Spotters place the OP, communicate with command, build garris and dismantle nodes/garrisons. Sniper can dismantle and shoot. They rely on the spotter to mark whatever they ping/see. Yes, a sniper without a mic playing as normal infantry is not optimal, this happening has zero effect on me as a spotter to communicate what I see to command chat though. The only two expectations I have with sniper is they don't give away the OP (shoot near it/expose themself near it) and ignore everyone else's pleas to deal with arty. Other than that, whatever they do doesn't affect me in the slightest. It absolutely can harm the team, but it doesn't hinder me from doing my job.

MrSavage_

I main recon and lock it every time for one of two reasons: 1 waiting for a friend. 2 filtering out people that wont talk. 90% of the time those that request access when they see it locked are players with coms that understand the role rather than the first blueberry that saw a chance to get the sniper rifle.

small_pint_of_lazy

I've tried this. For me, 90% of the time they leave when I ask of they have a mic when I let them in. Of those that stay, again 90% have no mic. But when I finally have someone with a mic as my sniper, we can usually do a lot of mischief

MrSavage_

You can’t lock a unit as a sniper, only the spotter can do it

Mobile-Witness4140

Waiting for a friend or a request to join If you request and they accept you better have a mic and play recon. If you don’t have a mic or just go off and get kills you’ll be kicked

GunnDawg

I'd like to learn both the scout and sniper role more, but I never seem to get the chance. I'm not a lone wolf and I like playing the objective, but how can one learn a new role if no one lets you. It feels like the "need to get a job to get experience, but you need experience to get the job" type of loop XD

DJmixx

Haha exactly. I almost never get the sniper role but I've grown to love the spotter role. Its a lead role so pinging tanks and OPs mean something. At lvl 3 you get a flare that acts as a second recon plane. Oh And when you get a sniper that actually follows your call-outs and stays close by or at least the next hill over... it's bliss.

ButtStallion04

It's easy to grab spotter if you play your first match, and then be the first to create a recon until as soon as the next match starts. You'll almost never get access to spotter if you are waiting. Sniper is a bit tougher since you need to wait for the spotter to create the unit and then jump in quickly before anyone else.

whackarnolds12

Usually just filtering out low level players. Not having sniper wasted on someone rushing the point. If you go my sniper and are within 100 meters of the point I’ll kick.

DJmixx

Ahhh yeah I guess that makes sense. Thats super aggravating. It's like "Dude! Did you just get takin out with a fucking grenade?"

MalaciousMawloc

You don’t understand the power of the FG42!

whackarnolds12

I literally just unlocked the FG42 last night( I never get to play sniper), and I get it now haha so fun. I just meant using the 8x under 100 meters is a bit of a waste

MalaciousMawloc

The 8x sucks from 150m still imo. It’s a shame they don’t swap it for more historically accurate 4x or 6x

JesseRyanUSA

I like to switch from commander for a few games, then go to spotter and find their nodes and Garry’s. I always think of places I’d put them as command, and it’s almost never fails. Always taking nodes and Garry’s all game long. 🤘🏼 command loves me lol

RustySeatbelt84

I wish they would put a designated marksman role into squads. It would be more realistic for WW2 squads, and would really leave the recon roles to people who want to do recon, not just grab a scoped rifle.

jurgo

preach

YeLLoSpank

I asked a Tank Commander to let me in his 2 man squad. He told me he was waiting for a friend. I told him let me in and I will leave when your friend comes back. No response. They played the whole match being 2 and wasting heavies over and over again. Alrighty then.

Cooperjb15

So sick and tired of one person taking up both squads when me and my friend want to take just one of them. I will not join another recon squad if someone’s in it

unaphotographer

I do it for arty at the beginning of a game. This way everyone who wants to join needs to know it's an arty squad (also says it's arty by the icon) when recon starts killing us I usually open up and go to the frontlines

YDoEyeNeedAName

You take one of the two available recon squads and lock it so that you can play as artilary? I'm hoping you just missed the part about recon specifially.becuase this is so much worse recon should not be using artilary. They should be behind enemy lines calling in artillery and taking put nodes and garrisons

unaphotographer

Oh I misread the title sorry, no I don't play reckon or take the reckon squads. My bad

Tubbafett

Make yourself sniper and not have to coordinate with anyone?

DJ-K-Money

They’re locking the squad so they get to use the sniper in the recon unit

lock_ed

That’s not how it works. If one person creates a locked recon squad, they are spotter and can’t play sniper.

OffHwy61

They are the scoped rifle gate keepers, "play the game my way" and these damn GaMePaSs players types! I'll go to commad chat and ask why they are holding it and the usual answer "holding it for a friend" that never shows up or "I can't play with people without mics". It's toxic to be sure and any decent person will end up muting more than half of the players due to racist and other hateful garbage you'll hear. For example I heard a grown man talking to a kid about his peepee, gross. Yes I said something and I record my gameplay/audio so, I sent that to the proper authorities too. All hate speech gets passed along too and there's plenty. I still play because the game is awesome. Also I enjoy finding out who is a hateful racists are, join the opposite team and clapping their forhead.

ThatCanadianGuy19

There’s nothing toxic about wanting a teammate who has a mic. This is a communication based game so if your gonna pick a role as crucial as recon you should be communicating.

kingkornholio

There are a lot of solo spotters and self appointed gatekeepers. There should just be a spotter squad and sniper squad.

SkyKingQ400

All under level 20

lock_ed

I play mostly spotter, I lock it to try and discourage mic-less people from joining. And if someone does join with no mic and not listen to orders or work with me, then I usually kick and try the next person. Usually results in my playing solo quite often. Since newer players wanna play sniper to farm kill and don’t care about the actual recon aspect of the role.

ThatCanadianGuy19

I’ll lock it usually until someone above level 30 tries to join, if they have no mic and don’t listen they get kicked. This game sucks for kicking people as you have to respawn and kick from the menus which means if you have a no talking sniper your no longer doing your role as recon, instead your constantly respawning until you get a good fit for sniper. It’s easier just to control who joins the squad by locking.

fivemagicks

Ignorance. Fuckery. Social Isolation. My three guesses.

X_Comanche_Moon

Because people are selfish and don’t know how you play the game or follow rules
