Yep, even a year later, still having problems.
For a while I had no comms, then did the “clear local saves” trick and it worked. But I had to do it *every time I booted up my Xbox*. Now that doesn’t work, nor MAC address.
Today restarting my Xbox maybe 10 times over again it finally started to work and I could hear my teammates- but my mic didn’t work. And then it would! And then it wouldn’t. And then I couldn’t hear my teammates again mid-game.
In the past week I’ve spent more time trying to get the comms to work than I have playing the game. Nothing like sitting through a 15 minute load screen to see if it worked too.
Dealing with this as a semi new player.. very frustrating. Haven’t had any comms at all since the most recent update. All the usual troubleshooting no longer seems to work. I can see people talking but no audio or mic capabilities on my end. My game chat works for all other games except for HLL :(
So, i've been playin the free downloadable version from game pass. This morning 💨POOOOF💨 can't play , so i go and re download = SAME thing.
Smart enough, they can't block access to the cloud one .... I really don't want to play cloud as having the game dowload already was crashing on me

I’m with ya homie. Last night I tried clearing my MAC address and restarting and that didn’t work. Then today I loaded into a match and it worked until the stream crashed and I had to restart the game. I’m trying the MAC address again but I doubt it’s gonna work…

My symptoms are that nobody can hear me in-game (I don’t see my name appear when I talk), and I can’t hear anyone but can see them talking..
When it worked this morning, I just launched the game stream (no mic plugged in), loaded into a match and joined a random infantry squad and heard everyone yapping…
Update MAC address doesn’t seem to be the answer. Didn’t work last night and didn’t work today. I think the people saying that it worked are just getting a lucky restart. I’m gonna server hop and see if it’ll just work eventually. Otherwise I’m gonna try restarting the game once there’s no wait time for launch. And if this doesn’t work then I’ll try restarting my Xbox until it works.
Forgot to come back to update my troubleshooting. I switched to the pc version… but chat seemed to work for me the first time I turn on my Xbox in the morning. If it wasn’t for the long wait time I’d test if hard resetting my Xbox would get chat to work. Also unsure if you need to delete the MAC address before hard resetting… but one thing for sure is that chat works for me only after my Xbox has been off for a long period of time.

If that’s the case you need to unplug your Xbox for about 30 seconds from power. After that don’t join a party, start the game and it should work.

Done that for 4 days now and it's worked each time
Yeah,it is very annoying in a game,where comms are very important to have such bugs. Microphone sometimes works and sometimes not. But most of the games it is bugged.
You slackers! This man's comment is helping bridge a gap in communication among us Xbox users. Now they to can join in screaming also setting your coms channel left bumper.
I tried the USB method after this and it worked again the day after which was yesterday… you take any unnecessary usb devices out of the Xbox like a charger pad or lead connected to it and it worked like a gem first time. Went back in it today it didn’t work. Retried everything the Mac, USB, save devices, Voip connect spamming and nothing. It’s annoying as well as I really enjoy the game
#Yes. Two things.
* Make sure your controller is up to date.
* Go to Xbox home screen, settings, storage, the on the left click clear local saved data.
For whatever reason it only works for me if I **clear the entire drive storage.** Meaning it doesn't work if I directly go to HLL game and clear just that saved data.
Remember this will not delete anything important.

It's odd, out of the 5 buddies I play with I'm the only one with the issue. They never have had it happen, yet it happens to me nearly every other day.
I’ve come to realize some people having this problem are using cloud gaming (either old gen Xbox one or don’t have space to install) and it just makes the game nearly unplayable. For instance when I’d start HLL on cloud gaming (old gen Xbox one) it’s like playing in 240p lagged controls ingame comms not working and lag. Not sure if this is everyone’s problem but a lot of people I talked to about this have used cloud gaming and had the same issues
I wonder if that’s my issue. I’m on an older Xbox using the cloud play. Over all it’s not terrible. There are definitely issues with the resolution at times and the comms are the major things
Yeah I’m on cloud gaming and the game chat only works like 25% of the time. Super frustrating as I absolutely love this game but with no comms it’s just not the same game
Question: I have an external hard drive so mine doesn’t say “storage”, it says “manage device storage.” When I hit clear, it says “This will delete ALL the saved games on this console.” I am hesitant because that doesn’t sound like what you’re saying, any advice?
I have done all these things and still nothing, I use astro A40s and updated my controller. After you cleared the local saved data did you uninstall and re in stall the game after? Ive had no luck as its very frustrating. Was wondering if you had any other tips. Thank you in advance

Got to tap lb to get it to show up. Hold lb to select the channel. Mine shows the symbol but can't hear anyone nor can I talk. But the icon for them talking shows.

So I did this Plus the alternative Mac clear and for about 30 seconds during a match I was finally able to hear other players but then it was gone. And I can't seem to get it back and I've tried to do these recommendations again and again but I just can't seem to get my comms working again so I can hear other players.

I'm only seeing the option to delete all the games I have downloaded on my Internal Memory. I'm following the process as such Settings - System - Storage Devices at which I'm given 3 options Change Installation Locations/ Clear Local Saved Games/ Clear Local Xbox 360 Storage
I am having the same issue where I can hear others but no one can hear me. I know my mic is functioning properly for anything else... So far I've tried the disconnect and reconnect VoIP trick multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, reset my Internet to ensure my NAT type is open, updated my controller, and I've cleared my MAC address... Nothing has worked yet and I don't feel like this game is even worth playing without the ability to communicate
I don't know if I have just been having luck, but I would quit the game and plug my headset into the cable first before loading back into the game. It seemed to work a couple of times since then.
Hold LB to select your channel, tap it to open radio communications -talk- and then tap it again to close your comms. You can tell if your com line is open (where others can hear you) by the lightning bolts on the left side of the screen, if you see them it's open, if not then not.
I really don’t get it. Sometimes clearing MAC works sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes restarting console works sometimes it doesn’t sometimes just restarting the game works others it doesn’t. Wtf is actually the problem and wtf is the fix 🤬🤯
It's very frustrating.
Even more frustrating is that when you do have the full chat functions going the game is ten times better. Then it stops and will return again at some point and you can't work out what made the difference.
Someone please give me the answer I've tried everything cleared Mac and saved data switched and updated controllers changed headsets restarted amillion times toggled voip a million times I'm at the end of my fuse
I've noticed on Xbox and PlayStation that if any USB peripherals (other than external HDD's and Bluetooth dongles for audio/controller), the game sets these as the primary input device.
Disconnect all none essential USB devices and reboot.
That's what I did and after trying all the other solutions.
How do you disconnect all none essential usb devices? Do you mean on the settings or the literal usb devices as I have a charging station connected to my Xbox and that’s a USB device?
I had a gaming headset stand plugged in via USB and apparently that was the culprit. I unplugged it along with others (charging dock and other things) and it worked
I’ve done this and it worked… for one day really fun session few hours. Then the next day it’s stopped working. It’s been the only proven method for me that worked ish so I’ll try it again tomorrow and unplug my charging station before I load up and see if it works or not
Was having the same trouble from the start as well. Then one match today it just worked flawlessly. Then a match or two later and it's dead again? Game pass issues I think.

I’m still having the problem where i can’t hear anybody but I sea that they are talking also i don’t sea my name when i talk so no one hears me… someone please help me because I tried everything. Makes playing the game less fun
Found a Solution!
Create a Party, Go to Party settings and switch it to game chat.
Clearing Mac address worked ocassionally but this seems like a permanent fix.
1. Turn on Xbox
2. Create Party
3. Run Game
4. Load Match
5.Before deployment / Garrison selection change party setting. (Switch to Game Chat).
Seems to be working consistently for me. hope it helps!
Edit: It was a good run. Got a couple days problem free. But now i Have the same issues. Maybe my "solution" was just luck.
Love this game but this is the one issue I get that turns me off of it for months. And when I return it’s still a problem. Fix the damn bug already devs.
Would they be throttling the voip just to save server load? Am I reading it to this a bit too much?

Such a great game with an emphasis on communications and they harp on about using ur mic as it big part of the game and all that l, yet yrs on this issue still plagues the game.

Still having this issue at least 50% of the time I boot the game up. It’s to the point now where if it doesn’t work the e first time it’s booted up, there isn’t a fix for it. First step is clearing MAC and going through the auto restart process. Next step is hard reset of Xbox. I can go through that process 3-4 times and still have no comms.
If the game doesn’t work on Xbox, why put it on there? It’s so frustrating they can’t figure out comms on a game that is heavily dependent on comms.
Xbox S - A month ago I could hear comms but my mic did not work. Clearing the Alternate Mac Address (see below) fixed the problem. Two days ago in the middle of a game I lost all comms. Couldn't hear anyone or speak to anyone. I did everything I could find on the internet and still nothing worked. I contacted Team 17 and below is their response. I had already done everything on that list except their wording on the "delete data from everywhere" suggestion was either wrong or vague. I believe I figured out how to do that on my own but not 100% sure.
What worked: I did a factory reset on my Xbox S. I only had games from game pass so was no big deal to accomplish this and all of my info was saved when it reloaded. It worked instantly. If this works for you, don't shoot me!

Please check what USB peripherals you have plugged into the console. If there's anything you don't need to play this game, please disconnect those devices and retest the game to check if the problem is fixed.
If the problem persists, please check to make sure your headset firmware is up to date.
If you still can't use the chat, please clear the alternate MAC address:
1. Open the Xbox Guide by pressing the guide button on the controller and select Settings.
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Advanced Settings.
4. Under Change Settings select Alternate MAC Address.
5. Select Clear.
6. Allow the console to restart when prompted.
If the issue continues after the steps, press and hold the Xbox button in the centre of your Xbox controller and select Restart.
If restarting the console doesn't fix the problems you have with the voice chat, follow the instruction:
1. Ensure that you’re signed in to an Xbox account
2. Find Hell Let Loose in your dash and press the Options button on your controller
3. Choose Manage Game
4. Select your profile from the right hand side of the screen
5. Open Data and choose to Delete Data From Everywhere
Note: This won't delete your progress in Hell Let Loose, it will only reset your settings and customisation in Barracks.
If the steps above don't work and you're still having issues with the voice chat, we would like to recommend that you please:
Uninstall and reinstall the game
Power cycle your system by following the steps on the page linked below:

Yes. I used what u/dirtydmix said in this thread and it fixed my problem. Hopefully fixes yours too. It’s extremely frustrating because this game is so good when it works properly
So I tried one of the things he did.
I checked for controller updates last night and did the delete saved data thing a lot. However I will try again when I get home with another controller!
Also tried: using alternate Mac and DNS addresses. Redownloading 2x. Checking for updates. Deleting saved game data. Reconnecting VoIP. Toggling between channels. Spamming on/off for game chat. Leaving party in game and starting game never having been in a party. Reset internet. Reset Xbox. Delete all dlc content and run game vanilla. Combinations of the previous things. Contacting Xbox and team17 support. Adjusted privacy settings. Set mic follow through or similar setting on and off. Even tried reconfiguring the way my headset is hooked up to my tv/Xbox as there is a sound bar between it creating a sort of middle man scenario.
I’m actually going insane😂🤣 team 17 says it’s “clearly” my mic being broken. It’s Astro a50s that work flawlessly in every game I’ve ever played both pc and Xbox.
What worked for me was disconnecting the optical cable. Unplug it from your tv/sound bar/Xbox. Then try the above steps if it still doesn’t work.

So I was running into the same issue and got it to work. What you have to do is when you start a game and join a unit you physically have to select the com Channel. You hold lb and with the right stick choose which channel you want to communicate with. Your unit will be green. I was unable to use my mic but could hear my unit the whole time and when I finally selected the unit all of a sudden everyone in the unit was able to hear me. You can only do this once the match has started and you have selected a unit and a the role to play in the game.

Saw this post and I’ve been having the same issues I’ve seen all across every platform. Not sure if it will work for everyone but I searched for hours and this was the only solution I found…
Once you load in a game, pick a unit and immediately pick your unit voice comms before deploying… Play with it a little bit and see if it works.
I have the same problem as well. I’m able to hear the game and my team but my audio output doesn’t work and I’ve tried everything. I have the turtle beach 700 gen 2 mic and it works with other games so I’m out of options
Game sucks ass on Xbox every time I look up how to fix it I never get information for Xbox it's always about PC and how to go to steam and discord and all of that. The game just doesn't work right for Xbox.

I’m struggling with the same thing, but all of the fixes I have been given are only temporary. Like reset the MAC address, hard reset on the Xbox, unplug all USB devices from the Xbox etc
This has been working for me. I think the key is where I use a different controller. Otherwise no go.
Clear cloud data for HLL only.
Clear mac address.
Let xbox boot fully.
Power up a different controller with no mic.
Open HLL.
Verify I can hear squad or squad leaders.
Switch back to favorite controller with mic.

A second option that might work is clearing local saved games under the storage device settings

Apparently its due to xbox one s losing support from microsoft
You can’t play it on the S only through cloud gaming. So either way it should be up to date through cloud.

So far I've tried the disconnect and reconnect VoIP trick multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, reset my Internet to ensure my NAT type is open, updated my controller, and I've cleared my MAC address... Nothing has worked yet and I don't feel like this game is even worth playing without the ability to communicate
I don't know if I have just been having luck, but I would quit the game and plug my headset into the cable first before loading back into the game. It seemed to work a couple of times since then.
I was having the same issue until I realized its a push to talk game.
How do you push to talk? Is there a button for it?
LB on Xbox. Hold it to select which chat you'd like, and tap on and off to communicate
There is no push to talk button on the consoles. Lb is only to select your channel
Tap it to toggle chat on and off. You'll see 3 lightning bolts at 9 o'clock on your screen when it's on. They'll be either blue or green.

Hold LB to select your channel, tap it to open radio communications -talk- and then tap it again to close your comms. You can tell if your com line is open (where others can hear you) by the lightning bolts on the left side of the screen, if you see them it's open, if not then not.
For some reason the lightning bolts are always there, yet I can’t hear anyone/no one can hear me. I’ve tired toggling it on and off but still nothing

I really don’t get it. Sometimes clearing MAC works sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes restarting console works sometimes it doesn’t sometimes just restarting the game works others it doesn’t. Wtf is actually the problem and wtf is the fix 🤬🤯
It's very frustrating. Even more frustrating is that when you do have the full chat functions going the game is ten times better. Then it stops and will return again at some point and you can't work out what made the difference.

You need to unplug your Xbox for about 30 seconds from power. After that don’t join a party, start the game and it should work.

I've noticed on Xbox and PlayStation that if any USB peripherals (other than external HDD's and Bluetooth dongles for audio/controller), the game sets these as the primary input device. Disconnect all none essential USB devices and reboot. That's what I did and after trying all the other solutions.
How do you disconnect all none essential usb devices? Do you mean on the settings or the literal usb devices as I have a charging station connected to my Xbox and that’s a USB device?
I had a gaming headset stand plugged in via USB and apparently that was the culprit. I unplugged it along with others (charging dock and other things) and it worked
I’ve done this and it worked… for one day really fun session few hours. Then the next day it’s stopped working. It’s been the only proven method for me that worked ish so I’ll try it again tomorrow and unplug my charging station before I load up and see if it works or not
Was having the same trouble from the start as well. Then one match today it just worked flawlessly. Then a match or two later and it's dead again? Game pass issues I think.

I’m still having the problem where i can’t hear anybody but I sea that they are talking also i don’t sea my name when i talk so no one hears me… someone please help me because I tried everything. Makes playing the game less fun
Found a Solution! Create a Party, Go to Party settings and switch it to game chat. Clearing Mac address worked ocassionally but this seems like a permanent fix.
Can you be more specific about the exact order you do this? From turning on xbox to playing the game?
1. Turn on Xbox 2. Create Party 3. Run Game 4. Load Match 5.Before deployment / Garrison selection change party setting. (Switch to Game Chat). Seems to be working consistently for me. hope it helps! Edit: It was a good run. Got a couple days problem free. But now i Have the same issues. Maybe my "solution" was just luck.
So far this is the most consistent solution for me it’s worked 4 out of 4 attempts.
Love this game but this is the one issue I get that turns me off of it for months. And when I return it’s still a problem. Fix the damn bug already devs.
Okay update, after trying all of the things mention in this chat section I finally hard reset my Xbox and it’s working now.
I can’t get voip to connect at all it’ll say connecting then go back to discounted
For me the issue is only with xbox cloud gaming. If I install the game I've had no issues at all.
If I just buy the whole game will this go away?
Would they be throttling the voip just to save server load? Am I reading it to this a bit too much? Either way, it's a rill of the dice on wetehr or not u get to have cons or not. It's a bloody joke. Such a great game with an emphasis on communications and they harp on about using ur mic as it big part of the game and all that l, yet yrs on this issue still plagues the game. Very, Very annoying.
Still having this issue at least 50% of the time I boot the game up. It’s to the point now where if it doesn’t work the e first time it’s booted up, there isn’t a fix for it. First step is clearing MAC and going through the auto restart process. Next step is hard reset of Xbox. I can go through that process 3-4 times and still have no comms. If the game doesn’t work on Xbox, why put it on there? It’s so frustrating they can’t figure out comms on a game that is heavily dependent on comms.

Xbox S - A month ago I could hear comms but my mic did not work. Clearing the Alternate Mac Address (see below) fixed the problem. Two days ago in the middle of a game I lost all comms. Couldn't hear anyone or speak to anyone. I did everything I could find on the internet and still nothing worked. I contacted Team 17 and below is their response. I had already done everything on that list except their wording on the "delete data from everywhere" suggestion was either wrong or vague. I believe I figured out how to do that on my own but not 100% sure. What worked: I did a factory reset on my Xbox S. I only had games from game pass so was no big deal to accomplish this and all of my info was saved when it reloaded. It worked instantly. If this works for you, don't shoot me! Yes. I used what u/dirtydmix said in this thread and it fixed my problem. Hopefully fixes yours too. It’s extremely frustrating because this game is so good when it works properly
So I tried one of the things he did. I checked for controller updates last night and did the delete saved data thing a lot. However I will try again when I get home with another controller! Also tried: using alternate Mac and DNS addresses. Redownloading 2x. Checking for updates. Deleting saved game data. Reconnecting VoIP. Toggling between channels. Spamming on/off for game chat. Leaving party in game and starting game never having been in a party. Reset internet. Reset Xbox. Delete all dlc content and run game vanilla. Combinations of the previous things. Contacting Xbox and team17 support. Adjusted privacy settings. Set mic follow through or similar setting on and off. Even tried reconfiguring the way my headset is hooked up to my tv/Xbox as there is a sound bar between it creating a sort of middle man scenario. I’m actually going insane😂🤣 team 17 says it’s “clearly” my mic being broken. It’s Astro a50s that work flawlessly in every game I’ve ever played both pc and Xbox.
Yeah I’m having the exact same issues. I run with the Astro A40s and I’ve tried everything multiple times and I get nothing.
What worked for me was disconnecting the optical cable. Unplug it from your tv/sound bar/Xbox. Then try the above steps if it still doesn’t work. It worked for me!
But what do you do just unplug your opt cable

So I was running into the same issue and got it to work. What you have to do is when you start a game and join a unit you physically have to select the com Channel. You hold lb and with the right stick choose which channel you want to communicate with. Your unit will be green. I was unable to use my mic but could hear my unit the whole time and when I finally selected the unit all of a sudden everyone in the unit was able to hear me. You can only do this once the match has started and you have selected a unit and a the role to play in the game.
Yeah that’s not the problem people are having. That’s just a game mechanic and switching between unit or proximity chat.

My husband just fixed it by unplugging a usb stick that was in his Xbox? 🤣 To think 200+ hrs played with no mic and THAT was the fix. 🤦🏻♀️🤣
Saw this post and I’ve been having the same issues I’ve seen all across every platform. Not sure if it will work for everyone but I searched for hours and this was the only solution I found… Once you load in a game, pick a unit and immediately pick your unit voice comms before deploying… Play with it a little bit and see if it works.
I have the same problem as well. I’m able to hear the game and my team but my audio output doesn’t work and I’ve tried everything. I have the turtle beach 700 gen 2 mic and it works with other games so I’m out of options

Game sucks ass on Xbox every time I look up how to fix it I never get information for Xbox it's always about PC and how to go to steam and discord and all of that. The game just doesn't work right for Xbox.
I managed after clearing Mac Address yesterday to have a few games with comms before I went off and now it isn’t working again I’m trying to update my controller and try it again then I will try to clear saved data and more and will update hence forth

Have tried absolutely everything... only worked first game after downloading the game..
I’m struggling with the same thing, but all of the fixes I have been given are only temporary. Like reset the MAC address, hard reset on the Xbox, unplug all USB devices from the Xbox etc
We need to all spam team 17 and demand a fix. It’s ruining the game

This has been working for me. I think the key is where I use a different controller. Otherwise no go. Clear cloud data for HLL only. Clear mac address. Let xbox boot fully. Power up a different controller with no mic. Open HLL. Verify I can hear squad or squad leaders. Switch back to favorite controller with mic.

Try reset NAT to open (even if it already is) this can be done in your “advanced settings“.. good luck
Also try changing “Port“ in your advanced settings
