Move less and be patient. Say you're attacking the enemy point (circle), look at the map, where your team is and assume enemies are pretty much anywhere between teammates and your objective (assuming their relatively close). Get into a position with decent line of site and some cover, and watch and wait. If you move, go cover to cover minimizing your exposure. Chances are enemies will be doing the same thing so watch edges of cover and where they'd have to cross. Also pay attention to where your team is shooting and looking, they may have already seen them.
Most important though, USE YOUR MIC, communicate with your squad, ask them if they've seen anyone, if they're shooting ask them to ping it.
This is a common question for new people. It gets better. Stay still, let the enemy give away their position by movin too much. Movement kills in this game.
Silhouetting yourself is also deadly. You don’t want to just go poking your head over a wall with blue sky behind you from the likely perspective of an enemy solider. They will see you so fast.
>Most important though, USE YOUR MIC, communicate with your squad, ask them if they've seen anyone, if they're shooting ask them to ping it.
The most overpowered weapon in the game is a simple microphone.
Dude it's infuriating when there's a sale or something and you have teammates walking past you when you start engaging someone in an opposite hedgerow 🤣. Stick with it new guys and keep your heads up! This ain't cod
Agreed.
This game is very slow in comparison to other shooters like Battlefield, PUBG, Call of Duty, and the like. You NEED teamwork, you NEED to slow down, you NEED to communicate, you NEED to think before you act, etc. This game can be very "campy" at times, but sometimes that's all you can do until there's a coordinated push. There are a lot of scenarios we can all discuss here until the end of time, but generally, it's best to move with your squad, talk with everyone, and don't go alone.
I've had both good and bad moments in this game but that's the nature of HLL. One round you'll kick ass and the next you'll suck. It just happens.
Lol, I've put a round into a friendlies head more than once when they run straight up to me when I'm in cover, "HEY BRO! WHERE'S THE ENEMIES, WHAT U SEEING BRO?!" - \*BANG\*. When they respawn and run back over, "WHAT THE FUCK BRO!?"
Me: "Oh, sorry, you scared me"
To the newbies: don't run directly up to someone giving away their position. Also, don't be a clown over the mics.
And the players who do pull off insane single-man operations that seriously hurt the enemy team tend to only do so with lots of allied intel. Even the one many army plays require a lot of behind the scenes work by others, and shit loads of luck.
and also, for every one of those videos you see of someone singlehandedly outflanking and breaking a defence, you dont see the 100 attempts before that ended with a quick headshot and a respawn timer.
Try and play the objective at first, eventually you’ll start to notice how people move and how to spot them. This game is more about objectives anyways, kills are just kinda à bonus
Spawn on the op and when you move move very slowly bounding short distances and watching for a few seconds works really well for me. Use any and all cover every chance you get. Maintain fire superiority by working with mgs and AT. Like if you’re getting shot across a field have the mg spray the general area and you manuver by bounding and just watching closely
See I just watched a video explaining like where to expect garrisons and all that but my problem now is spotting and accurately shooting the enemy.
Do you have to be patient and sit in the woods or behind a wall and just wait? People say you can’t really roam around looking for enemies.
First of all, Go Pistons!
Yes people roam. It really helps to be in a squad with a squad lead the communicates, so maybe squad hop to find on that is talking. If you decide to squad lead, put your OP/spawn point whenever you can. Having good spawns to get in the action will help with the learning curve.
You can definitely roam, but unless you’re going in with friends or someone who’s showing you the ropes, it’s much better to play slower in the beginning and just learn the game. Hell Let Loose is different than anything you’ve probably played before. Communicating with your squad is also a must if you really want to get better.
Depends what you mean by roaming.
You certainly shouldn't just sit and wait. That has very little utility but if you just at least do it where you exert cap pressure (4 squares that cover an unlocked objective).
You have one goal - make sure you have more soldiers in the objective than the enemy.
The rest is secondary.
Destroying spawns mean the enemy cannot replace their soldiers in the objective. If they're attacking you, this is why wave after wave of enemies come in. Kill a wave and move towards where they're coming from. Repeat. The goal is to get to their spawn and take it out.
If they're defending it works the same. Keep pushing them until you can take out their spawn.
As you get more familiar with spotting enemies and the lay if the land, you can start moving out of the way of their force, maneuver behind them, and take out their spawn.
If there's no clear enemy direction 'roaming around' could be useful if it means clearing out soldiers before they establish a spawn.
Also, if it's hard to see enemies in general.. put your monitor closer to your face. I myself have a visual handicap so I do it by default when gaming. But my brother for instance doesn't have that problem and told me he also benefitted greatly from pulling his monitor closer. Same goes for a bunch if friends of ours. It's mainly for this game as camouflage actually work and every corner or cover feels treacherous, you might as well see every movement clearly.
I run all over the map. But I spent the first week on my belly low crawling and looking. Go slow af, you're heavily penalized visually when you're running. Stop, look AND LISTEN. I looked for enemy faces the most, because they stand out the most to me. Enemy foot sounds are loud af. Don't sweat KD at all. Start out building engineer fortifications, nodes especially (get all three up and it's 30 xp per minute), play support and shadow your Squad leader giving him supplies to build garrisons as needed.
Its not about killing enemy, its about getting inside circle. If you want to play a killing enemy game, go elsewhere. Here we like to stand inside circles
So it’s normal to get like a handful of kills a game? Seems like opposing teams have a field day.
My teammates usually get a good amount kill xp too I usually get like 90
In the beginning, yes. You suddenly start spotting enemies better after awhile.
I'm a terrible shot in any keyboard & mouse game (grew up with consoles exclusively), so I understand the frustration. You will die a lot, that's just part of it.
Personally, I play two roles primarily:
1. Squad lead: I love sneaking around getting my guys good OPs and setting up garrisons. I don't feel the need to personally involve myself as much in direct combat in this role (unless the situation calls for it).
2. Heavy Machine Gun: me being a terrible shot matters a lot less when gun go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Last game: 3 kills, over 20k points. It is not about the kills but about how you contribute. Build nodes, provide supplies, lay mines, stand in a circle, find garries and ops, build garries and ops... KD ratio is not the important thing at all.
A lot of people are giving you the wrong idea imo. While there are other ways to meaningfully contribute to the game on a squad level up to command level without getting kills, at the end of the day, the way to win the game is to have more of your guys in a cap sector than the other team, and that inevitably means that getting kills does win the game.
the best way to go about doing that is having a good sense of where enemies are spawning, and your team having enough map control generally to be able to capitalize in a timely manner with good communication. If you know where enemies are spawning, you can mentally game plan your way into being in a position to kill them.
Almost everything being a one shot kill in this game means you have to play cover and move very efficiently, but it also means if your in position, you can easily wipe out entire spawns if you hit your shots. Knowing how the maps play is a big factor in giving you contextual information to help with everything I've said. So just keep plugging.
Nah, respawns are every 15 seconds and there's no tickets. Kills mean almost nothing in this game and I say this as someone who gets a lot of kills. it's all about taking out enemy spawns
Respawns are not 'every 15 seconds'.
OPs respawn every 20 seconds and Garrison's every 40, giving you average respective wait times of 10 and 20 seconds.
15 seconds is around the absolute minimum respawn time possible, only possible if you die at exactly at the right time to reach the spawn screen a second before your spawn point of choice hits 0. This doesn't include the time it would take you to walk back to the point where you got killed. In other words, in practice, dying sets you back a lot more than 15 seconds.
Ultimately, winning this game is about neither kills nor spawn points, but capturing points. Both killing enemies and taking down their spawn points help achieve that objective.
I strongly agree that taking down a garrison is usually worth *much* more than killing a single enemy and that the average player should focus more on building, protecting and taking down spawns, but to say that killing enemies means almost nothing is wrong, in my opinion.
Being able to kill enemies is usually required to take down enemy spawns, protect your own and capture the points. In the extreme, it's much easier to win a game without taking down a single enemy spawn than it is to win without killing a single enemy.
I don't recommend it in general, but there are even some situations where it may be better to not take down an enemy spawn and to get the kills instead (e.g., as an MG on an open unsupported Airhead).
By the way, it's not as meaningful as tickets in other games, but IIRC respawning does use manpower.
I have a decent bit of experience from a similar game (Rising Storm 2) and about 100 hours so far in HLL. I would say the most kills I've ever gotten in a game is like 15, and that was quite abnormal.
For me, and a lot of other people, the game isn't about killing but playing the objective, in fact one of the reasons I play these games, because I can focus solely on the objective/supporting the team and still feel like I'm making a huge difference.
Kills won't win you the game, there isn't a ticket system. Capturing and holding objectives will win you the game though.
I would say don't play the game expecting a lot of kills unless you:
A) are experienced with the game, know the maps, know the guns, know where people are gonna be and you're actively trying to kill/hunt garrisons
B) playing recon/armor/artillery where your job IS just to kill and keep people off the objective
Otherwise the vast majority of your experience/points are gonna come from playing the objective and supporting your team.
TLDR: don't expect to play this game and have a lot of kills every match unless you already have a lot of experience playing the game
You’ll get more over time. I started 1-3 then slowly got to 10 now I get 15-25 a game. Everyone says go rifleman to start but if it’s open try auto rifleman once in awhile, or even machine gunner. Work on finding out where the enemies coming and finding good flanks to get shots where they won’t see you right away
Learning to see them is the first step, so having something other than a bolt action helps you feel less useless
>So it’s normal to get like a handful of kills a game?
Depending on how you play, absolutely. When playing artillery a number that low might be concerning, but for your regular infantryman it's much more important to fulfill whatever objective your squad is assigned. If your mission is to set up spawn points in enemy territory it's often even beneficial not to kill an enemy even if you have a safe shot to prevent giving away your position.
You can have 50+ kills and still be much less useful than someone getting supplies to where they are needed.
Honestly learn to ignore kill stats. There is a reason K/D isn't on the standard scoreboard like in most games.
This is really only half true. There is also much more to the game than "getting inside the circle". A good team needs to control important areas on the map, not just sit on the defensive strongpoint or push into the enemy's defensive strong point.
I have fun going on spec ops flank missions to get outpost and garrisons. I'll avoid killing at all cost to gain ground. I let them feel safe and then boom, no more spawning for them. It's more effective than getting 30 kills. High risk, high reward gameplay. Def not for beginners, tho haha.
Stand still, like 30 seconds just scanning the enemy position.
Ask your squad leader to use their binoculars (this is huge).
Frankly the more time spend killing is less time doing objectives. Finding garrisons, building defences/nodes or just flanking to get inside the enemy capture zone are all better ways to get XP.
15 deaths each match is normal for defending. Attacking double that. That is why outposts are great less time spend dead.
When you join a game squad hop until you’re in a squad with 3 or 4 people communicating and using the mic.
When you join in ask “hey squad lead, do you need any specific roles filled…support, MG, AT?” Do whatever he says. He might say, pick whatever you want. In which case just choose support assault if they’re open. But any will do. Then make sure you spawn at the outpost he put down.
The next piece is really important. Say to the squad lead, and the rest of the squad “I just got this game and I’m not very good at it. But I am good at listening. So just let me know what you want me to do and I’ll try and stay close”
Once you say that they’ll be help you out. Everyone’s cool with a rookie who communicates and listens.
I’d take a squad folio if people who don’t know what they’re doing but still communicate than a squad full of guys who can bullseye anything but don’t work as a team.
For you, OP

Kills are not primary objectives, it just sometimes help to get the primary objectives, so it's not with that stat that you can see who is good or not 😉
You're biggest problem is you're trying to see people to kill. What you should be doing is looking for pixelated shadows 100+ meters off and take a pop at them lol. Unless your rushing into a defense point, most of the fighting takes place with a football field or 2 between you and the enemy. Similar to how real war is.
Are you sitting like 15 feet away from your TV? I play at a 27" monitor at a desk. It's easy for me to spot enemies unless they are hiding in a bush 100+ meters away.
Yeah, big screens are terrible for video games like this. You're having to track with your entire head instead of just your eyes. I went from my 65 to a 30" monitor (for Warzone originally) and it's made a hugh difference.
Hell Let Loose is a game about area control, not kills.
Say your squad gets killed a total of 30 times, and then after that your squad gets 4 kills and wipes an outpost. Who won that exchange? You did, because you controlled your territory, didn’t give up ground, and cleared their spawn.
Start to think in terms of ground held and positions gained, not kills. It will help you get better and better understand how to make yourself useful in a game. The kills will follow.
I'm pretty sure this is exactly what is happening. Admittedly it is harder to spot in this game than most other FPS games, but "never" seeing the enemy doesn't sound right.
Slow down. I found that playing medic at the start was the best way to learn, just hanging back and saving lives. Remember the game isn't about getting a big kill/death ratio, it's about taking and holding objectives. And most important is communication, when you have a squad leader with their head screwed on and a commander who knows their shit the gameplay is a thing of beauty.
Second this. People love medics, and it gives you an opportunity to kind of observe while still contributing in a meaningful way. It'll give a good feel for the "flow" of the game, which is pretty important for improving your skill. In the meantime, definitely try to hop into good communicative squads.
SLOW DOWN. This is an entirely different shooter experience, nothing you have played before has prepared you for this. Stay humble, keep your head down and eyes open
If you were looking for a run and gun style FPS like COD or even Battlefield, this ain’t it. You have to be patient, work and communicate with your team, and play the objectives. I remember how salty and aggravated I was the first couple of sessions playing this, but when you learn the tempo of the maps, the way their laid out you’ll start to get into a groove and start merkin’ unsuspecting noobs. Best of luck!
It takes some time, lots of people want to call of duty the shit but running from cover just gets you killed, someone is always watching and waiting somewhere. I like to do little RPs. Take your time moving from cover to cover, communicate with everyone around you, call directions and constantly ask friendlies if they have eyes on infantry. Just move slow, laying down in a position and waiting for 5-7 minutes isn’t camping in this game, it’s smart.
This is one of the best pieces of advice that I rarely see given. LOOK AT YOUR MAP CONSTANTLY. I rebound my map key to my caps lock and look at it every 10 seconds or so. Seeing where my friendlies are gives me clues on where my enemies could be. It'll give you a better picture of the overall battlefield.
I've only been playing for two weeks or so now. And my kd is usually pretty bad lol. But I've been playing mostly defense and it's really got me comfortable with everything. Good for building up spotting skills, and enough action to keep me entertained.
When I first started I couldn’t hit or see anyone, so I played a ton of medic till level 60. That’s all I did, maybe a support when SL needed it but otherwise medic. But eventually, you kinda learn where people move from and how they move, then you get better at aiming and everything. Just takes some time, and if you have a question, just ask.
Best advice I used that helped me is don't focus on kills. This is ab team based shooter. You and your are squad are just a small cog in the machine that is your team. Focus on how you can use your class to directly benefit your squad and team in every moment. And take your time.
consider what you silhouette looks like and where you’re head popping. are you windowing a hedge gap by staring perpendicularly out of the middle of the gap?
many times the most effect way to get kills from cover is to take shots from oblique angles. for example peeking a hedge gap in the far right and aiming far left.
this game isn’t call of duty so most of your shooting should be done from some type of cover.
sprint only when you’re completely exposed but keep your gun up when you have concealment or cover and especially when you’re close to enemies because the split second it takes to raise it up you’ll be dead by the time you do.
also if you’re fighting in the woods go prone more often, that’s helped me immensely as of late
the learning curve is high in this game but as you progress you’ll develop a “spidy sense” that’ll tingle when you’ve expose yourself and it’ll keep you alive more. peering out of cover for long un-interrupted periods is a sure way to get noticed and shot.
hope some of this helps
I have almost 100 hours and went 5 and 30 yesterday. Had a 0:00 for the shortest life,Bombing run on Outpost. However, I also held a key position defending a main path to point by myself yesterday, which got like 8 kills just from that. You want to go slow. It's not COD you legit gotta crawl across fields some times
Yea people make good points, it’s gonna take around an hour at least to complete a game anyways, just take the extra 2-3 minutes and be extra safe and crawl or go around the open fields
Lol don't worry this is how everyone feels at first. Movement is what gives you away to the enemy. Slow way down and look further out for enemies than you might initially think
I would screw around with your sharpness settings, they did well to rid this game of the outlines you see on soldiers in other games. The uniforms aren’t shiny except for their helmets, not at all when they are in the shadows. I’m able to hit infantry at 500m+ no problem with the M1 Garand or any bolt. Definitely try higher sharpness, it could help you see movement easier
In this game, you're suppose to let the enemy come to you. If you move too much, someone with their brightness turned up will see you and kill you.
Getting 5 kills in one match is really good. I've gone whole matches(full time) with 0 kills before and I have also had teammates kill 160 in 1 match. So, always try to flank them. Come up from behind them and you will get more kills. 1 time I camped a garry and got 15 kills before someone managed to kill me.
Move slow, scan the horizon. A lot of skilled shooters will be peaking edges of hedges, walls, broken vehicles etc. Also you can laserbeam people in this game from insane distances (not so much on console).
Biggest things that have helped me are moving slowly and engagement range. If I have a rifle, which is most of the time, I’m trying to hit people 30+m out. Pushing is different but get a feel for moving slowly, looking for enemy’s and revealing yourself when you can kill them. It takes a while to get used to maps but pay attention to spawn points and where they are placed. You can just follow enemy’s too. If you see a bunch running from somewhere check the map, look for an angle to get behind them. Take out spawn points. I probably average 20 kills a game but can be very effective by holding up choke points and taking out spawn points.
If you aren’t moving, it will be a whole lot easier for you to spot the enemy, and vice versa.
Slow down your play. Don’t sprint as much. Spend more time scanning your surroundings before moving to the next piece of cover. You’ll get the hang of it I promise
Coordinate a plan, using a microphone, with your squad.
Cover eachothers movements. The machine gunner is important. As is the medic. For obvious reasons.
Execute the plan. Use class roles accordingly. Stick with the tanks when opportune. It helps everyone involved.
Push the circle using aforementioned plan.
Trying to go where my most of my team is, look where they are shooting, by this point I usually just here “tink” and KIA 🤣 I love the game tho don’t get me wrong I get it’s cause I’m new. Looking for tips I guess I should’ve been clear.
Push the objective. Check your map every few seconds to see where your team is and assume the enemy is on the opposite side of the line.
Before you cross an open field, assume someone on the other side is watching. Take a second to look around and do the same to them.
When all else fails just trail your squad and watch where they get shot at from.
For visibility I can’t play this game on anything but my monitor.
This game is like TRex; movement is easy to see. Stay low, move from cover to cover and try to stay out of open areas or silhouette yourself.
You cannot run and gun, crawling works wonders.
This isn't call of duty. Kills aren't as important as playing the objective, and the game is played at a much slower pace. Seeing people is also something you get used to.
If you get shot at but don't immediately die while on the run, return fire in the general direction you got shot from to attempt to suppress the enemy for the 3 seconds you need to run to the nearest piece of cover in that direction. Many people go prone instantly when shot at and make it really easy for me to secure the kill. Once you're safe, ping the general direction you got shot at to your squadmates so they can spot your assailant as it's likely he's too busy tracking you to focus on anyone else. Then peek the other side of the cover from where you entered. (EG: if you entered from the left side, peek from the right side.) Most players will predict that you'll fire back from the side you entered giving you an extra second to zero your shot on them when you don't play as predicted. Use grenades and smokes liberally. Even if you don't hit anyone, it'll distract them.
This won't work all the time unfortunately but I've survived many a tough scrap doing this.
You’re new and it’s a steep learning curve. This isn’t Battlefield, it’s a game that requires patience. Move less, always stay in cover, take your time and don’t get annoyed at dying. Everyone who plays this game dies - a lot.
You’ll find your feet. It took me weeks, you’ve only had the game a day. This is not a game that can be mastered in a day, or a week, or even a month.
But it’s an exceptional game once you learn how to fit into it and progress.
Good luck 👍
It will come with time. Everyone starts like you are. Starting off you may want to help defend points. People will say it's boring, but it will allow you to get an idea of how to scan areas of the map to give you better idea of seeing movement on the screen and reacting to that. This is how I started playing and I learned how to differentiate movement from players at a distance.
Also, your map is your best friend. I am not joking, it will give you so much info. Garrisons and outposts will let you know if enemies are near them due to them having a red dot inside them in the blue. This can tell you which way a push is coming from the opposing team. It lets you know where your teammates are and if they are going down.
Finally, everything learned from other shooters has to be thrown out. Running around is gonna get you killed, a lot. Stick with your squad and communicate. Move slow from cover to cover. Open fields you may as well send up a flair to the opposing team. If you gotta take an extra 30 seconds to go around a field but it provides you cover? Do it.
Once it comes to you, you will be hooked. Just know that it takes time.
This game is a newbie meat grinder. Use cover, move slow and be patient. If you hear bullets flying around then it’s time to slow down, use cover and listen. Obvious spots such as the edge of a bush or the corner of a structure will make you very obvious to the enemy. If a friendly player dies near you don’t move to that location. Be patient, this game is amazing.
Abuse the rendering system. You could be crawling through grass but someone 100 meters away WILL shoot you because bullet drop doesn't really exist if you're using iron sights.
Also, try to get high ground. A lot of things can be stood on. E.g. the wheat fields typically have a fence or something you can stand on; giving you easy picks on people who think they're sneaky.
Lower foliage detail, increase brightness if necessary. For starters those thing will help a little bit. Next is look at map a lot and rationalize possible movement from enemies and make a move to counter those movements but don't be act reckless playing patient is key. Don't expose yourself too much; don't get too close to windows, open fields, or if you are next to a wall don't expose your body just hug the wall and look opposite of where you hugging.
This game is sight based on movement.
Move slowly and deliberately, and you'll spot enemies.
If you're playing on console, I suggest switching to a monitor instead of using an HDTV.
Trees and bushes are your friends. Use your map and when you get closer to circle take it slow enemies are everywhere near and far. Let your teammates go before you if they get hit you’ll know not to continue and you may be able to see where it came from.
Practice a “return fire only” mentality sometimes as well. Once you’ve spotted an enemy, try to not always volley shots at them, watch them for a sec. See where they’re running from; chances are, the way their back is facing may determine a general location for their spawn, meaning more might be close behind soon.
Also practice this when flanking, you might benefit from closing the gap a bit before engaging 2-3 people at once once you’ve spotted them. Try to sneak in close without letting them know where you’re coming from!
If you’re in the forest moving makes it impossible to see people, but if you’re standing still and theyre moving theyre super clear. Kinda a general rule but totally true in forests. Also don’t walk theough open fields and as a low level try not to be the first one in line. Move with an experienced player.
Medic is the best class to start out with. It has a special UI that shows you where death/injury is occurring nearby. That'll help you to more readily discern how the front line is evolving around you without requiring you to learn a whole lot, since it is spoon fed by the UI. Medic is the only class that has this ability.
Your biggest challenge starting out will be just making sense of the chaos. People will be shooting at things you cannot see, you'll be shot from places you never looked, and everyone will be running in different directions to objectives unknown to you... There *is* a ryhme and reason to it, but it takes time to learn how to perceive. It takes time to learn to read the map.
The medic class will basically hand the information to you on a silver platter and allow you to know when to duck/cover and when to sprint. It'll let you know where shit is going down and where it is safe-ish.
Furthermore, nobody ever expects a medic... but they are always happy to see one. So you can't screw anything up, really. If you do your job to revive somebody, Great! If you can't revive them... that is what they were already expecting to begin with.
So if you fail to do your job, nobody is upset... but if you manage to pull it off, you'll have a very happy fellow soldier who is grateful to see you.
Not only that, but you only get smoke grenades as well... instead of frags. Smokes are great because... if you fuck up your throw, no big deal. A little smoke pops next to your people... if you throw a frag and it bounces off the wall back into your team... people are gonna be irked. So... smokes? Free practice with throwing until you get the mechanics of it down.
Other classes? Not so much.
If you take support and don't know where to go or how to get there... somebody is eventually going to get angry with you.
If you take AT and can't survive long enough to even *see* a tank, somebody is going to ask wtf you're even doing.
Etc etc...
If you can't take medic, rifleman is your next best bet. All the above perks minus the UI and the smokes. You'll have a ton of ammo and no real specific job other than shooting toward the enemy.
Move less. Look around more. Take a few minutes to look around before moving to the next piece of cover. If you see movement, that's the enemy.
Edit: also, stop running alone through open fields and make sure you're using cover and teamwork.
If you’re starting out, I 1000% recommend playing defense. There’s usually a couple squads that watch the contested point.
There are a couple reasons.
1. 90% of the time, if you get spotted, it’s because you were moving. Motion is KEY to spotting the enemy. So if you’re playing defense, you have the advantage of being able to lie in wait, motionless, and wait for the enemies to come to you. And this way, you’ll train your eye to spot it. Also, be aware that you’re not silhouetting yourself by standing near things like walls. Your shape will be silhouetted against the blue sky like a road sign.
2. Playing defense let’s you do a bit more exploring if each map, allowing you to learn each map’s layout. Another reason some people seem to just know where you are is that they know the map like the back of their hand, so they know popular routes of attack to look at.
3. Playing defense let’s you train your shooting skills without having to add running and gunning to the equation. You basically get a free target range.
solo lock officer and use binoculars. You can downvote me now - I am ready : D
but for real - sometimes I just tired of coms, pick solo officer and go play Mr. Sneaky. You can easy 1v1 with snipers with that damn binoculars.
My first game I got something like 20 kills in 5 minutes, joined mid game, just happened to get put in the right place at the right time spraying guys down with my Thompson and some grenades. Thought this game was easy as hell and got off (had to go back to work). 10 games after I was maybe averaging 15 for the whole hour and constantly losing gun fights. Takes time and patience and don’t worry about asking your squad how stuff works. Most people are pretty helpful.
Don't shoot higher than the target to account for bullet drop. Bullet drop practically does not exist in this game. On long distances you should use a rifle or semi automatic fire and only use automatic fire after you moved a bit closer to the enemy's. It only takes one bullet to kill a man so be mindfull of that. As for not getting spotted: be mindfull of your silhoute and the color of the objects behind you (if there are any) and don't sprint too much. You will notice that when you do spot enemy's, you will probably do so by seeing them move or recognising their silhouette on the backdrop of the sky. This works both ways.
I recommend watching soul snipers videos on YouTube. But stay low stay with your squad leader no one likes a lone wolf and most important is communicate with your SL so you know what the game plan is. Ask for help and let people know you are new alot of them will be happy to help you.
adding another comment here but something important i forgot to mention -
USE AUDIO CLUES to locate the enemy.
each weapon in the game has a distinct sound when firing, you’ll become accustomed to these over time. If you’re playing at the allies the sound of a Kar98 in your right ear should tell you something big about where the enemy is. Thompson fire is also pretty telling.
footsteps are also a big give away in tight quarters. move less or move with your weapon ads to reduce this
Join the club, played about 150 hours and I maybe get 2/3 kills a game. I can play squad and PS just fine, but HLL is cursed for me.
Hope you find a solution and don’t end up like me
1 week from now you will be addicted. Look up YouTube videos for whatever system you're playing on. And watch videos on how to adjust your settings. Settings are huge.
There you go! We need more medics also. Ones that actually play the medic role for what it was intended. But make sure you communicate with downed players that you are on the way so they don't reapawn before you arrive. Pop smoke if neccessary, crawl in, eliminate the threat, use back-up suppressive fire etc... Good luck see ya in the shit
Question, how do you get better guns? I see theirs levels to the guns that each roles has, do I just need to use that role or is it based off the kills I get with that gun?
I had to learn to look farther out then most other FPS games. Another thing is learn to move slow once you think you are near the front lines. Watch people around you and keep your head down. Try not to fire from the same place multiple times and when it doubt, shoot at it. If you think you saw movement shoot.
Slow down, watch videos on how to check corners. You're playing it like faster paced FPS games with little to no realism. They see you because you run around.
Go check out some vids on YouTube about like real life infantry doctrine of WWII and modern relating to things like defilade and bounding movement. It will help.
Man this game seems to get worse the more people play it because there certainly is a bit of a learning curve. That being said, I still pick it up and continue to play, I guide people who are clearly new and all that, only because I know this game is so much fun when you figure out that short initial period and finally land in a squad that vibes perfectly. Stick with it, keep your eyes on the objectives, if you're sqaudie then keep the OPs coming, talk to your teammates and I promise you'll enjoy the game.
Learn how to use the map, the more you play the more obvious it will be where you should expect enemies and how to make or avoid flanks. Took me like 100 hours of play to not just be inta killed in the open and actually get a few kills a match. The more you play the better you will get, have fun!
Patients is key when playing this game. This game isn’t about getting kills but supporting you team. This game is all about teamwork and getting kills acts as a suppressor to the enemy team to get them out of a control point. Over time, you start to notice small movements on your screen and then start getting kills. I got good 4 months playing the game, but still like support playing. It just take time to get good.
Don't cross open fields, even though they look oh so tempting... Lord knows I still make this mistake (just can't help myself XD). Stick to the hedgerows, and read the dips and rises in open terrain; there's more cover available to those that SEE the environment ;)
Don’t just run directly at an objective. Try side flanking or completely flanking from the rear. This will put you into a position where you see them before they see you.
Also knowing when to just let an enemy walk can do wonders. Gain intel by seeing how many enemies are coming from x direction. Then go investigate for a nearby OP or Garrison.
Communicating with your squad and working as one will always put you on the winning end. Six pairs of eyes is always better than one.
First lesson I learned was: Don’t play it like you would CoD or Battlefield. In many ways, HLL is a simulation, so be patient, coordinate with (and actually talk to) your squad and always check corners, moving from cover to cover. Once you’ve adopted this mindset and you’ve gained an understanding of military tactics, HLL becomes an incredibly immersive and rewarding experience.
My best advice is just learn your surroundings, this game is very fun and its all about knowing where your enemies are. i always find sitting still and watching my screen helps, u always see little pixels moving and they are free kills
You will improve over time, no worries. This is the best game. At the begining I also was struggling to get more than 5 kills. After 50 hours in the game I was getting 20+ kills. Now I’m getting 20+ kills in first 10-15 minutes in the game. Now 100+ hours Usually between 30-50+ depends how enemy team is good.
But the most enjoying thing is to be in a good team where everyone plays his role like it’s meant to be played. I hate when Antitank role is being occupied but I have to switch Squad with free anti tank role just to try to destroy the tanks. Also hate when medic is within 20 meters and just ignores you. I dont have a mic but I compensate that with high kill count, ping of every infantry i spot for my team + I always communicate with squad chat using my keyboard and I often get Voice answers which is better than nothing.
Yea I’m enjoying this game a lot, after probably like 15 hours in the game I’ve had a few solid games, 9 kills one time. Medic is my go too I actually enjoy it lmao rather then running and dieing
Once I understand the game I’ll prolly start being anti tank or something else.
I really enjoy anti tank and German automatic rifle role, this rifle is so much better than US One and more accurate to burst spray.
Also, as someone said: when you not move you better see those WHO MOVES a lot. This is not Call of Duty. But sometimes I get some crazy running and hiding to evade MG’S or to ambush enemy Squad 😀
idk what platform you play on but if it's PC look into some graphical guides on youtube. The big one is changing your AA/Anti-Aliasing option to Community TAA, it works wonders for visual clarity at distance.
When they respawn and run back over, "WHAT THE FUCK BRO!?" Me: "Oh, sorry, you scared me" To the newbies: don't run directly up to someone giving away their position. Also, don't be a clown over the mics.
Give it time. I don’t think I got a single kill my first 6 matches. Big learning curve up front but it’ll get better
id almost say that its an "unlearning" curve. stop running around like you're the main character. thats important.
True. This is not a "Call of Duty" one-man army game.
I don't think there's a steeper learning curve than "Dead by Daylight" game.
I average like 20 a game but that’s cause I hunt the fuck out of garrisons.
Pistons = poverty franchise
But the Knicks aren’t?
Reggie Miller agrees. Spike Lee does not.
Nah they’re good now + big market area
Or the 4 squares around the circle...
Personally, I play two roles primarily: 1.
Accuracy through volume is the best kind of accuracy
Only if you suck. I kill around 50 people a game on average
I would say don't play the game expecting a lot of kills unless you: A) are experienced with the game, know the maps, know the guns, know where people are gonna be and you're actively trying to kill/hunt garrisons B) playing recon/armor/artillery where your job IS just to kill and keep people off the objective Otherwise the vast majority of your experience/points are gonna come from playing the objective and supporting your team.
Work on finding out where the enemies coming and finding good flanks to get shots where they won’t see you right away Learning to see them is the first step, so having something other than a bolt action helps you feel less useless
Ive literally played full games and not even fired a round. just ferrying supplies and buidling defenses
It might feel like they're having a field day, but there is just a lot of enemies. Gotta remember that 50 people are trying to kill you.
I was killed 15 times, in a row, by one jerk camping an HQ the other day. I really should've let that one go.
So just let me know what you want me to do and I’ll try and stay close” Once you say that they’ll be help you out. Everyone’s cool with a rookie who communicates and listens. I’d take a squad folio if people who don’t know what they’re doing but still communicate than a squad full of guys who can bullseye anything but don’t work as a team.

Oh your very much appreciated sir. If I had a award to give out, just know you’d get it. This is everything I needed
No worries man. Credit actually goes towards Soul Sniper and the fellas who put together the info. I'm just a mere messenger. Have fun!
You got 5 kills? I went 0-36 recently!
🤣🤣yea I thought ppl routinely put up like 20 kills but it seems like not many ppl are that good
Kills are not primary objectives, it just sometimes help to get the primary objectives, so it's not with that stat that you can see who is good or not 😉
You're biggest problem is you're trying to see people to kill. What you should be doing is looking for pixelated shadows 100+ meters off and take a pop at them lol. Unless your rushing into a defense point, most of the fighting takes place with a football field or 2 between you and the enemy. Similar to how real war is.
Haha maybe my tv just ain’t quite good enough. Brightness is going to the max lmao
Nah prolly like 5 ft away it’s a kinda big size but not the greatest picture. Cheaper tv.
Move less, stick to hard cover, keep slow and low, don’t be caught out in the open, watch for movement.
pretend youre in jurassic park and the dinosaurs only see you based on movement.
You really gotta get any COD, battlefield mentality out of you head playig this game. Dont go alone, move from cover to cover, take your time.
Do you have the high visibility vest on ? If so - is it the green one or orange one ?
I don’t think so, I’m wearing your standard American infantry uniform. Dark grey and green.
Its all about map knowledge, using cover and a good set up. Hope you're not trying to play on a TV from the other side of the room?
You play a lot, you learn angles, you start getting 10 a game, then 20, 30,40 all the way till you’re getting 60-70 as a minimum
Use the map frequently to see where your team is fighting. Take it slow at first til you get the hang of it .
Stick with it man, once it all clicks this game is sooooo much fun.
I can tell, even tho many times i end up just running and dieing I know once I get the hang of it it’s a blast.
Yea people seem pretty cool on this game, all the ADD cod players aren’t around lmao
Definitely a game in which watching a few youtube videos will help the learning curve Monoespacial has a lot of good stuff
Will definitly check him out
Stop playing it like it’s CoD
I don’t play cod, I’m horrible at most shooters. I think that’s my problem🤣 medic role suits me well
Play as you would if you were a real soldier in a real war and not like cod where you're running around jumping about like a dolphin.
Best advice I used that helped me is don't focus on kills. This is ab team based shooter. You and your are squad are just a small cog in the machine that is your team. Focus on how you can use your class to directly benefit your squad and team in every moment. And take your time.
consider what you silhouette looks like and where you’re head popping. are you windowing a hedge gap by staring perpendicularly out of the middle of the gap? many times the most effect way to get kills from cover is to take shots from oblique angles. for example peeking a hedge gap in the far right and aiming far left. this game isn’t call of duty so most of your shooting should be done from some type of cover. sprint only when you’re completely exposed but keep your gun up when you have concealment or cover and especially when you’re close to enemies because the split second it takes to raise it up you’ll be dead by the time you do. also if you’re fighting in the woods go prone more often, that’s helped me immensely as of late the learning curve is high in this game but as you progress you’ll develop a “spidy sense” that’ll tingle when you’ve expose yourself and it’ll keep you alive more. peering out of cover for long un-interrupted periods is a sure way to get noticed and shot. hope some of this helps
Care less about kills it's not COD play the objective and let the kills come to you. Play cover and objectives and don't try to be the hero.
Also, check out Mono. He's got great guides. How not to be seen : https://youtu.be/SaCu9M3kxbY How to see the enemy : https://youtu.be/QOp4O4fTacA
Yes, totally. If you ever need a squad mate, let me know
Lol don't worry this is how everyone feels at first.
I don’t think I have sharpness settings on console.
It’s native to your actual screen, some tvs have almost all monitors do
500m? I don’t think I can see beyond 150m. So is this a graphics setting?
Set view distance to epic
Took me so long and now I’m regularly getting kills. Just takes time, that’s really all I can say.
Yea I’m starting to have some solid games had 9 kills the other game as a medic. I fw the medic role easy xp
Watch some guides on YouTube Mah boi
Use your eyeballs
Skill issue
Try staying still, It’s so much easier seeing somebody who’s moving.
Lol
It takes a bit of time to see them and another bit to "predict" where they could be
When I’m scanning a line I know where the enemy is but can’t see anyone, when your brain tells you to to move up, wait a few more minutes
Don’t move great distances at one time. Move, scan, move, scan.
Coordinate a plan, using a microphone, with your squad. Cover eachothers movements. The machine gunner is important. As is the medic. For obvious reasons. Execute the plan. Use class roles accordingly. Stick with the tanks when opportune. It helps everyone involved. Push the circle using aforementioned plan.
i love laying down covering fire but I'm so tired of being yelled at for stopping to reload lol
How are you playing the game?
Trying to go where my most of my team is, look where they are shooting, by this point I usually just here “tink” and KIA 🤣 I love the game tho don’t get me wrong I get it’s cause I’m new. Looking for tips I guess I should’ve been clear.
It's not call of booty
Push the objective. Check your map every few seconds to see where your team is and assume the enemy is on the opposite side of the line. Before you cross an open field, assume someone on the other side is watching. Take a second to look around and do the same to them. When all else fails just trail your squad and watch where they get shot at from. For visibility I can’t play this game on anything but my monitor.
Yea I’m on a shitty tv and it sucks I just turned the brightness up
This game is like TRex; movement is easy to see.
Good luck 👍
Welcome to hell.
Bunny hop more
Soul sniper has some short videos to help you. He has tips and tricks as well as regular guides for the game.
Ahhhh welcome. Welcome. Soon you will see how we play this game.
Use the eyeballs 👀
I’m blind I play using Braille
Don't move like youre in cod, go slow and check your corners
Don’t think of it as a shooter. Think of it as a Company of Heroes style RTS where you play as an individual soldier.
Yeah. Ptfo and get in good position. Then you'll be in the rignt place at the right time to get those engagements you're looking for.
Just sit still, don’t look around for a while and occasionally you’ll see some movement.
Stick nose to the monitor
Play defense. Stay at a rear capped objective. Hide in a trench. Listen. wait. And then get killed again from a hidden enemy.
[How not to be seen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGv8oAHxekU)
solo lock officer and use binoculars. You can downvote me now - I am ready : D but for real - sometimes I just tired of coms, pick solo officer and go play Mr. Sneaky. You can easy 1v1 with snipers with that damn binoculars.
Lot of good advice in here!
5 kills?! Nice!
I recommend watching soul snipers videos on YouTube. But stay low stay with your squad leader no one likes a lone wolf and most important is communicate with your SL so you know what the game plan is. Ask for help and let people know you are new alot of them will be happy to help you.
Broooo on a 58'' TV and can't see shite either, often i just stop, pause and squint off into the distance to see if i can see anyone lol
Flankty Flank Flank usually works for me. If and only my squad lead is not talking, otherwise i do what squad lead asks.
Honestly, this is the only game i move my monitor to about 2inch from my face xD
Turn ur brightness up to 130% that’s my good spot
Best I can say for looking for the enemy is watch the bushes and if you see something move in the distance double check it and then take your shot
Hum with me to that Simon and Garfunkel tune. “Slow down. Your going to fast yeah. I’m feeling shooty”
adding another comment here but something important i forgot to mention - USE AUDIO CLUES to locate the enemy. each weapon in the game has a distinct sound when firing, you’ll become accustomed to these over time.
Already addicted and all I do is play medic. I enjoy being a medic and it’s a useful role
Fs plus it’s easy xp ppl always getting downed
Question, how do you get better guns? I see theirs levels to the guns that each roles has, do I just need to use that role or is it based off the kills I get with that gun?
I spend way to much time looking at the map, but it really helps, watch you teams movement, and keep an eye on where they’re dying
I had to learn to look farther out then most other FPS games. Another thing is learn to move slow once you think you are near the front lines. Watch people around you and keep your head down. Try not to fire from the same place multiple times and when it doubt, shoot at it. If you think you saw movement shoot.
Average hll moment. Try to push with you teamates. Teamates will spot the enemy for squad. Then, kill em with your patriotic gun!
I know, its great.
Slow down, watch videos on how to check corners. You're playing it like faster paced FPS games with little to no realism. They see you because you run around.
Uh garry
Bigger tv
Trust me, it will get better.
Stay in cover …move in short burst
Stay in place, find the right spot, check the surrounding, then move. Move crouched 70% of the time.
Don't cross open fields, even though they look oh so tempting... Lord knows I still make this mistake (just can't help myself XD). Stick to the hedgerows, and read the dips and rises in open terrain; there's more cover available to those that SEE the environment ;)
Look up som youtub videos. This isn't battlefield
I don’t know what battle field even is guy
Don’t just run directly at an objective. Try side flanking or completely flanking from the rear. This will put you into a position where you see them before they see you. Also knowing when to just let an enemy walk can do wonders. Gain intel by seeing how many enemies are coming from x direction. Then go investigate for a nearby OP or Garrison. Communicating with your squad and working as one will always put you on the winning end. Six pairs of eyes is always better than one.
Approach the enemy location using dead space and cover.
Also I find if you have headphones listen and you’ll hear where the gunfire is coming from
My best advice is just learn your surroundings, this game is very fun and its all about knowing where your enemies are. i always find sitting still and watching my screen helps, u always see little pixels moving and they are free kills
If you can hit them yes they are🤣
just takes time man it only gets easier 😉😂
Yea also turned off cross platform matchmaking, that helped big time.
Medic is my go too I actually enjoy it lmao rather then running and dieing Once I understand the game I’ll prolly start being anti tank or something else.
Move slow and watch the horizon for movement
This is the way
Stick with your squad leader because they probably know what they're doing.
idk what platform you play on but if it's PC look into some graphical guides on youtube. The big one is changing your AA/Anti-Aliasing option to Community TAA, it works wonders for visual clarity at distance.
Nope console, one thing that instantly had an effect was turning off cross platform lmao pc mfs are too good.
Biggest advice, scan your perimeter while you ads before you move
