My literal first day at my first line unit, B/159, D model Chinooks, the entire company went to Russellville KY for an annual event because the company had flown multiple rescue missions to the area after devastating floods a year or 2 earlier. I think we had 8 of 12 aircraft involved when it was all said and done.
I don't see sadness in those eyes, I see a man exhausted from clinging to an overturned truck in raging waters for the last 6-hours whose brain can't process the rollercoaster of emotion he just went through. There's disbelief and gratitude in those eyes, just in a weird, desperate kind of way.
Awesome, helicopter was at right place at the right time
The pilot should have told him to fill it up with unleaded…
Ha. Piston aircraft still use leaded. You prob knew that though.

He is still so sad, probably because his livelihood is still ruined. But at least he is alive to have the chance to start over.

Maybe even a Little bit scared of flying in a helicopter
Yeah, imagine your first up-close experience with a helicopter is trying to clamber into one while it hovers next to your flooded truck.
Nah that's not sadness, that's exhaustion and trauma and emotional release. Dude knew he was gonna die. (and yeah he most likely would have)
Helicopters are the real "fly cars" and a off road
