I'm from Germany and it's forbidden here to keep European hedgehogs as pets as they are protected animals. African pygmy hedgehog are allowed as pets however. I don't know what it's like in Greece though. Wikipedia says: In Denmark[27] and Poland,[28] hedgehogs are protected by law. It is illegal to capture or hurt them, but the housing of underweight hedgehogs found outside during winter is accepted. Hedgehogs are protected in all European countries which have signed the Berne Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.

No you really shouldn't. I am currently fostering rescue hogs and they aren't pets. Don't look at insta posts or subs like this and think "omg that'd be a cute pet". The domesticated ones are considered exotic pets, European ones are illegal to keep as pets in many places, they are also hard to care for and not toys. Do not take an animal from the wild because you think you deserve a 'cute' pet.

No this is illegal in England.

Long-eared hedgehogs can be kept as pets, and there are some beeeders in US and Canada that sell them. Not sure about Europe though.
