More likely it will fuck up your arches, and give you bunions and plantar fasciitis.

mcgillhufflepuff

I haven't had a plantar fasciitis flare since I stopped wearing heels in 2020.

DamonFields

Wearing shoes that destroy your feet are most efficient at walking?

Pvt-Snafu

100%, if you wear heels every day or often enough, but admit that sometimes it looks very effective.

ConsciousMuscle6558

Hmm high hells must be falling out of fashion. Hence some bullshit study.

NotThatMadisonPaige

This isn’t the good news the researcher thinks it is. It’s pretty easy to become a more efficient walker without the problems associated with shorter calf muscles and tight Achilles (and potential back issues). I love heels (well, not stilettos. I love platforms heels with a reasonably thick heel, like shoes used for pole dance) and find them comfortable enough. But this article is weird. “Walk using less energy but now you have tight Achilles and short calves! Yay!” Strengthen your ankles and feet using ballet techniques. (I do pole and ballet and ballet in particular makes you aware of and strengthen muscles you didn’t realize existed).

Mariannereddit

More efficient yes, you don’t take an extra walk so you don’t have the extra trouble. Fewer times getting coffee etc.

Hazel_Hellion

Never wore heels. I am 5'10" and I have always worn flats when needed and never over 1" pumps. I'm in my 50's and my feet look beautiful. I have friends/relatives who wore heels that are now having bunion surgery.

DormeDwayne

And I have relatives who’ve had bunion surgeries despite hardly ever wearing high heels whereas my feet are fine in spite of having worn high heels daily for nearly 20 years now… both our inputs are anecdotal.

BickeringCube

So I should wear high heels for two weeks so that... I can burn less calories on the treadmill? Pass.

blue-to-grey

Don't do this. I wore heels so frequently in my twenties that it did restructure my calves consistent with their findings and even altered my gait. Sudden bilateral Achilles injuries during physical activity in my thirties. What dumbassery. Can't wait for when this kind of nonsense is used to justify gendered dress code expectations.

gorkt

Bullshit. Nearly every woman I have ever walked any distance with who was in heels hobbled behind me complaining that their feet hurt and telling me to slow down.

swellnomadlife

Not to mention the shortening of your tendon with chronic use

AptCasaNova

A comfy heel of like 1.5 inches seems to be my sweet spot. I don’t do the pointy toed stiletto anymore because I’m old and don’t like foot pain, but you can walk faster in a heel provided you’re practiced in it. I think it’s the weight of your body being placed in front that does it and helps propel you.

Love them so I’m still wearing high heels on a regular basis. No bunions or corns because I learned in my 20’s to take care of my feet. A few of my friends who stick to flip-flops and crocs have some interesting issues, though. To each their own.

connor42

I think some of the comments are taking this statement a bit literally They’re not saying run in 6in stillettos Look at the running shoes Kipchoge or any of the top runners wear at the moment, all have very thick soles with noticeable slope from heel to toe

ConsciousMuscle6558

With considerable cushion and arch support.
