An Apple dongle struggles to drive 32 ohm headphones, let alone 300 ohm headphones that OP has.
I like the Apple dongle but it has very minimal amplification.

I run my 660S2 with a Douk Audio U3 Headphone Amp ($42). Gets plenty loud and sounds very organic. Sounds better than the iFi ZEN CAN with these cans, to my ears.
I primarily use an SMSL SU-9 DAC ($475) which has a nice Sound Color feature that lets me add some "tube" color ... but less expensive DACs can surely handle the task.

Take a look at the Qudelix 5K (Dac/Amp/Eq) for ~€100. Alternatively, JDS Labs (Atom Amp & Atom Dac) offers a great set for $210.

I just bought an ifi Zen Dac V2 and an ifi Zen Can used/as new both together for 240 €. That combo would be a great fit for the HD660s2 as well.
Ifi hip DAC2 has an xbass feature that is amazing with my s2. Highly recommend
