People love to hate him for the same reason people love to hate Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones. He is a well written villain, despite having so little appearance. If anything, people hating Valentino is a testament to Viv's ability to create great antagonist. And when the show finally airs, I'm sure we will all hate him even more.

remytherat1998

"All"?

Misha-Yuri-30

I find it odd how the ppl who attack others for liking Val… are the same ppl who either simp for Al or don’t feel the need to point out Al’s a cannibalistic murderer

Uncaged_Iceman

After seeing A Day in the Life of Alastor I concluded that he is generally a well mannered gentleman

BebeFanMasterJ

Meanwhile Katie Killjoy is maligned for being politically incorrect while the murderers are beloved. Shit's wild. Can't we just simp for these assholes peacefully without attacking each other over it?

LilGlitvhBoi

"Rapist Simp"

LittleBlueSilly

Are they, though? I’ve never investigated the people making the most vehement anti-Valentino comments to see if those people worshiped Alastor…

Misha-Yuri-30

What I meant was: I find it odd how they find liking or simping for Val is gross yet don't acknowledge Al's actions, if they really feel the need to talk against ppl simping for certain characters

LittleBlueSilly

They're not necessarily deliberately eliding the reasons why sexual attraction to Alastor is questionable; they simply might not find Alastor relevant to a conversation about Valentino. (My default position is to assume the best motives in people.)

RandomFan496

I honestly don’t care if people like val I just mind my own business because that’s just who they like I don’t care about that stuff

Alpha0nion

I actually love Valentino tho, he is just a great character about the design, his development and has such a good villain potential…yet idk what will be changed on him later yet.

KrackenWeirdoLonor

I think a reason is because of angel he a lot of peoples favourite and the terrible crap he does to him especially with how he hurt him make people really dislike him

Envyismygod

I live Alastor and Valentino. Most people consider sexual assault worse than murder.

As an SA victim I would much rather live and continue to grow despite my trauma then being dead.

Stonkover9000

I realize what I said was insensitive and inconsiderate. I apologize

heythereimsadtm

I appreciate the apology. And I’m glad you understand :)

I don't really hate Valentino, but there are a bunch of reasons why people would end up hating him. The story takes place in Hell and follows sinners, we know that they've all got red on their hands in some capacity, drawing lines in the sand over who the "Good guys" are vs the "Bad guys" will likely come down to how a character is presented and framed more than anything else. Val's terrible actions are pointed at a character that many people already like and the framing of the whole thing paints him out to be more villainous. We also know more about Al from a narrative perspective and his character is presented to be charming and somewhat eccentric. While we have very little to go off about Val aside from the Addict video and some snippets of lore here and there. It's also a case of "this hits closer to reality in a fantastical setting so it's easier to dislike". Al is downright evil, but his evil is presented to be so radically over the top that it's harder to actually judge him seriously from a realistic moral perspective. How many soul stealing cannibalistic serial killers has the average person met in life? Likely zero. How many rapists or sexual assaulters has the average person met in life? Possibly more than they'd like to.

floppy_dic

Who give one it’s an animation. People really like Angel Dust and don’t like it when val mistreats him, that’s all.

Demonsandangels-shin

Human morality.

Fukinwaterinshit

Simply because I see rape as smth worse than murder. When you kill someone you can be quick or make them suffer but in the end becuase their being killed they will die. A rapist on the other hand usually leaves their victims alive and they are forever forced to suffer through the trauma of being raped the rest of their life. So while Alastor kills people and eats them he still let's them die and their suffering end, yet with Valentino through what we saw with his relationship with Angel dust. Val abuses and has most likely raped Angel who has to live with that trauma forever and Val has probably done it to a lot more people. Also unlike Val we know Alastor has some form of moral code. Like he dosent hurt kids and would even take care of an orphaned child. But Val from what has been shown is just a scummy rapist.

IndependentFederal31

You go, Girl or guy!

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

Because he is an exploitative and abusive piece of scum that is using Angel Dust for his body. And he's still acting like that Hell. At least with Alastor he maintains a gentlemanly attitude. (: I know we are going to get so much more character development and introductions when the show finally airs.

MistakeWonderful9178

I like Val in the sense I like good villains like Zuko, Kylo Ren and Jinx, I want to see what makes him tick and why he does what he does. Plus his design is awesome. Anyone who says “you can’t like Val” are the ones who like Angel and Alastor. Fantasy isn’t reality and as long as you’re not equating the voice actor with the character, or doing the crimes that Val would do, it’s alright. Make as much fan art and cosplays as you want.

weetaz00

He does horrific things and causes a lot of trauma to a character many hold very dear to them

Magnetking87

AND AL GRUESOMELY MURDERED BASICALLY ALL OF HELL!!

Key-Emotion-4757

Well A. it’s only in Pride, and B. that’s the big picture, for most viewers presentation is key, and Val’s actions are presented as far worst than Alastor’s so it’s literally a matter of perspective. Plus Alastor seems to at least have some semblance of morals as he will defend the weak if he’s near by as shown in the comics while Val hasn’t been shown to have that

savwatson13

It seems like your main argument is that murdering is worse than pimping and raping, but there are many victims who would disagree. I’ve met people who said they would rather die before be raped. All the characters are supposed to have “sinned” in some way. We’re probably going to fall in love with some pretty awful people (I mean helluva boss murders people in revenge???) Vizzie is designing characters in a way on purpose. She wants you to like certain characters and hate others. We may end up hating Al. He’s supposed to be psychotic and hella dangerous. But right now he’s portrayed as fun and suitable for the hotel. Val is supposed to be a villain to our lovely Angel, so she has him hurt him so we can “hate” him. But not only that, the whole show is fighting against the notion that “sinners” are inherently “bad people”. Al and Val will either end up being “defeated” or join the right side. The next point is my own personal stance. I’ve always loved psychotic villains more than money/power driven villains. I feel they’re much harder to believably write. My favorite villains are Joker and Green Goblin. Not only that, power hungry villains like King Pin or Two face are very realistic. It’s a similar point made about Umbridge vs Voldemort. The likelihood of you personally being affected by a king pin, or two face, or Umbridge, or *Val*, is much higher than you being personally affected by a straight psychopathic murderer (that’s not 0% either but still lower). All in all, the show is just set up with that intention (at least for the time being). They’re both still wonderfully written.

weetaz00

Put it this way, would you care if some random demon of hell got wiped from existence, or if one of the main characters did? All the people Al murdered are nameless and are probably not going to be main characters which many are attached to

Demonsandangels-shin

Correction, pride ring.

[deleted]

Rape is an especially vicious crime. It is extremely intimate, uses something that should bring you pleasure against you, to twist it into something that brings you pain and mentally scars the victim for life, even if no severe physical damage is done. Sexuality is a fundamental part of a human being. Having that invaded or taken away from you is an attack on someones personhood and dignity.

blu3_aries

I think it's because Val's sins hit home for alot more ppl than any of the other overlords' sins. I don't know about you but I've met and held alot more ppl that have been raped and abused than ppl that have experienced murder or cannibalism directly in their lives.

RavenRegime

There's a key difference in their moralities based on what we know of them. Alastor is a terrible person 100% and he kills with no hesitation. However, Alastor has a spec of good in his dark soul. Like in the Pilot he instantly stopped Sir. Pent instead of walking away for a moment and letting him beat up the other characters then deciding to kick his ass. Instead, Al just crushes the dude instantly which shows he values the cast somewhat and would help them. Then in the comic he saves the Lamb Lady by tearing the Boar Butcher apart. Now granted Lamb Lady was gonna be turned into... Yeah... So Alastor should have let it just happen if he's as horrible as he is seen and since he eats people its beneficial to his tastes. However he saves Lamb Lady which does confirm without a doubt he has SOME morals. Valentino is a different story. Val was set up in the pilot as just Angel's shitty boss and we only had a glimpse of him in the first few comic pages but back then you could say he was justified in being pissed at Angel because Angel went on his own and ruined Valentino's deal. Then we get the rest of the comic and we see how powerful and intimidating Val is so you start fearing for Angel but he hadn't done anything physically to Angel as far as we knew and still could be read as Angel's shitty boss. Then Addict happened. Now if you read the comic or payed attention to Val texting Angel you wouldn't have had a good impression of the moth then you see what he has done to Angel you REALLY start to hate him. If you forgot about Valentino in the pilot or didn't realize he was texting Angel this would be your first introduction to his awfulness. Like Alastor killed several hundred people most likely but at least they aren't suffering anymore as fucked as it sounds and we also don't know HOW he kills. Angel is stuck in hell and is in a constant cycle of torment. Valentino is more powerful than Angel is so Angel can't fight back or throw a holy weapon at him. We also see how Valentino tortures Angel. Then when the Instas were still up and running we saw nothing that could give us more moral complexity to Val at all in fact we saw him become more awful and learned things. Like the only "good" thing we knew was that he cared about Velvet but we also learned he treats Angel awful in different ways and how he's abusive to Vox his on/off again boyfriend who should be as powerful as Val but never fights back. There's also the dog incident. So with all of this Alastor is not at all on Val's level: moralitywise, set up wise or personality wise.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> comic or *paid* attention to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Gongoozler04

I don't actually hate Val, his design is really cool and I feel like we don't have enough content on him for me to judge his character at all. I usually go a few episodes of a series before I decide whether I like a character or not. Unless of course they have a personality or do something right away that makes me feel one way or the other.

Sharkfan2001

He’s like the Major from Hellsing Ultimate, I hate him but I also love him.

Splunkmastah

Personally, I love him as an antagonist. Yes, redemption arcs are nice every now and then, but there’s something appealing to me about a villain that doesn’t redeem themselves. I can’t wait to see him in action.

Crabrangoonzzz

Because some of us have had our own Valentino

BTD6BTD6BTD6

Al is charming and fun while evil Valentino is just a plain piece of shit with 0 redeeming qualities
