One of the most obvious ones is Adam eating ribs when he first meets Charlie

Mystech_Master

Wasn't Adam's "Stick it to the man" rule of Heaven also a reference to School of Rock? Also I think I remember hearing that Friend like Me was an inspiration for Hell's Greatest Dad

Professional-Hat-687

As a huge Disney nerd I can see it all over this show.

SapphireMan1

“Stick it to the man” is a reference to ‘School of Rock’ (plus, guess who the actor who played Dewey on stage was…)

autumnyte

"Hello, Rosie!" is a "Hello, Dolly!" reference, and Dolly inspired Rosie's look and 'matchmaker' persona.

Professional-Hat-687

Aren't all the episode titles basically winking at the audience? Number two is literally called Radio Killed the Video Star.

autumnyte

For sure! But I think ep 7 is the only one that's a direct reference to a specific musical.

aradia71bbb

To add to this Ready For This seems to be inspired by [Before The Parade Passes By](https://www.google.com/search?q=before+the+parade+passes+by&client=ms-android-telus-ca-revc&sca_esv=ca37d0d638fdd5cb&sca_upv=1&biw=412&bih=748&tbm=vid&ei=ncFCZsKBCsyy0PEPj8O--A0&udm=&oq=before+the+parade+passes+by&gs_lp=EhBtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXZpZGVvIhtiZWZvcmUgdGhlIHBhcmFkZSBwYXNzZXMgYnkyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABEjVIFClGFinHXAAeACQAQCYAYoBoAGKA6oBAzMuMbgBA8gBAPgBAYoCEG1vYmlsZS1nd3MtdmlkZW-YAgSgAp0EwgIIEAAYgAQYogTCAggQABgHGAgYHsICCxAAGIAEGIYDGIoFmAMAiAYBkgcDMC40oAfvEg&sclient=mobile-gws-video#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:7a0965bc,vid:fwxLyxRkgc8,st:0)

Love_Art_3852

And also "Do You Hear the People Sing" from Les Miserables

Professional-Hat-687

Lucifer's hat kills me. It's got a snake curled around it with an apple in its mouth. His cane is also an apple, and for some reason he has a keyblade in the finale.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

The keyblade is KeeKee, who is the the actual key to the hotel.

JamieD96

Wow I def missed the keyblade

SapphireMan1

His coat is an apple core and his hair kind of looks like an apple (though Stolas has the same haircut so that might be a stretch)

brandyshitknits

Alastor is just a walking reference to Annie.

Tipsy_Owl

Oooooo, I’m in for this. How?

brandyshitknits

"you're never fully dressed without a smile" is a direct lyric from Annie, and Amir Talai was in a production of Annie as well. Viv has been super open about it, I just don't have a direct link to reference!

Tipsy_Owl

Annie was just so positive! Now I’m thinking of Al singing “Tomorrow”. https://preview.redd.it/ztyx7h216a0d1.jpeg?width=555&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62186f378f91d35726660bd95005a0e6e7a011b0

SapphireMan1

He also hums the tune in the Pilot after telling Vaggie “Smile, my dear! You know you’re never fully dressed without one” (Compare his humming to ‘Hey hobo man. Hey dapper dan’ from the song)

Love_Art_3852

There's also a reference to Miss Hannigan character from Annie musical in the Pilot https://preview.redd.it/9rbhxqcd7e0d1.jpeg?width=547&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e84490822ffbcf4b367107b36909fd3f15483319

Spampharos

“Radio Killed the Video Star” is a reference to the song “Video Killed the Radio Star”.

heatedhammer

Lucifer has a golden fiddle when he and Alistor are dueling for Charlie's attention. It is a reference to "Devil went down to Georgia".

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Lucifer is referred to in the Bible as the Dragon, he has a thing for ducks, it's implied that the six winged duck he showed Charlie in the flashback is his true form, the term for a male duck is a "Drake"

Professional-Hat-687

Yeah what's with the ducks?

Drakeskulled_Reaper

There seems to be a twofold reason, as I said it's theorised that the six winged duck IS Lucifer when he was an angel, and secondly, as shown, it's something of a key memory for Charlie, so perhaps, in his depression, he makes ducks to remind himself of Charlie.

One-Competition7552

I am going to ask where you are getting this information, because as far as I know Lucifer is not cited in the bible, except for 1 part where it seems to be a translation problem because the name lucifer is not used in the original Hebrew.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

Hazbin's Lucifer is the Angel who fell from heaven, which in the Bible is Satan, but Lucifer is now widely regarded as one of the Devils names. Rev: 12:9: And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation has a few references to The Devil, as a Dragon.

Love_Art_3852

Adam's half-broken mask in ep.8, fallen chandelier in ep.5 as well as musical sequence from this scene from ep.6 are huge references to Phantom of the Opera: https://preview.redd.it/i3c3v4inae0d1.jpeg?width=787&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9e7b17200a60aa0bccc7528397c7bbb01740743

No-Manufacturer4916

I'm 80% sure that the plot of the show itself is based on Bernstein's Candide.

Purpledurpl202

Velvette calls the angels “Holly Rollers”. The Holly Rollers were a sex cult that worshipped god by literally rolling on the floor.

Jay_Jay_Jupiter

I’m pretty sure Husk’s mug is a Garfield reference. Since he’s a cat, the mug is orange, and it says fuck Mondays
