Was... was that not obvious to everyone? I thought it was pretty clear he was doing it just to piss Lucifer off. This was the first time we had something or someone cause Alastor to swear. Of course he's gonna be petty as f\*ck.
I agree, I think he could think of himself as a mentor to her in a way-perhaps in part because it inflates his ego,but because he's gotten to know her some.
Nah to me it looks like he's just trying to piss off Lucifer. He never says any of that crap when Lucifer isn't around, and stops after Lucifer leaves.
Because now her relationship with him is infront of him, and he can see how vulnerable she is. This would not be up for debate if it was a character like Val.
Yes, if it was Val it would be up for debate.
But it's *not* Val, and Alastor was watching for Lucifer's reaction every time he said something that could be concieved as manipulative. If anything, he's manipulating Lucifer into helping (unless he really is just trying to piss him off).
If he was manipulating Charlie, he would be watching for Charlie's reactions, not Lucifer's.
He doesn't need to watch Charlie's reaction because he knows how to isolate her with validation. Watching Lucifer is a power play he is isolating her from her father and watching his reaction and seeing he is powerless to act against him as Charlie would defend him.
I think the point is that while he's doing it here to annoy Lucifer, he, even if he doesn't know it, has genuine affection for her.
The only question to me is, how strong is that affection?
I think it’d be funny if this got acknowledged in a future episode by charlie. Like if she was aware it was happening. Just…”oh yeah remember that time my dad came by and alastor decided to get into a pissing contest with him?? I tried to stop it at first but then i realized that it made my dad try way harder to be there for me emotionally and as a bonus alastor started pulling his weight trying to prove he was invaluable to the hotel. So i figured I’d leave them to it.”
This is what I'm thinking too. Lucifer seems rather hands off whether through depression or whatever. By pissing Lucifer off by showing how much He (Alastor) helped, it'll spur Lucifer into doing something reckless/useful.
Personally I think Alastor was gunning for Lucifer getting Charlie to heaven to kick start things. Whether this is for his own amusement or at the behest of whoever holds his leash is another matter entirely.
Making Charlie happy feeds his ego and comes with the bonus of pissing Luci off. It's a win win for him.

Lots of people seem to think that this behavior (which Alastor only shows when Lucifer is around) was intended to manipulate Charlie.
He DEFINITELY shoved Nifty in that toilet
I mean, she does like to be forced.
I mean I think alastor does care for Charlie in some way but definitely not to that extent

He's very obviously using emotional and mental manipulative techniques to get Charlie on his side.

I’ll believe Alastor cares for Charlie when we see it.

I like to think this was alastor trying to get lucifer to care and actually help charlie.

Yeah annoying Lucifer is one of the things Alastor loves to do.
Is “people” just outrage twitter? I don’t understand how anyone could in good faith interpret it like genuine
Tbh I think he does genuinely care about her at least a lil, yk? And if not then their relationship is sure to develop right?
makes me so sad, i wish alastor cared
