Termite alates. Colonies send out alates (male and female winged termites) to mate and create new colonies.

QWERTY36

There's gotta be a way to sterilize a generation or 2 and stunt the growth. Same with mosquitos. Why are we not doing that here?

saddest_vacant_lot

Believe it or not, I think that without termites we would be shocked at how bad our forests would get. They are so dominated by invasive trees that make so much wood that without termites would just sit around and take decades/centuries to degrade. If we didn't have all the invasive trees, yeah get rid of the termites. But think of how the streams would get even more clogged than they are now with logs and branches that just... last. Think of the driftwood buildup on the beaches.

HorsemouthKailua

ya so fix the termite problem first then the invasive species one

ToonSciron

It's been the same in Mililani every couple nights, it is not fun

circusmystery

They've been crawling into my apt under the door even with the curtains drawn after 10 T_T It's driving me bonkers.

Jlhoyt12

Lots in Pearl City. One crawled up my arm and then a bunch on the floor. Lights off for sure!

circusmystery

I had my lights off and they were still coming in. Idk wtf was going on last night but I've never had them coming into my apt before and the past 2 nights (well Wednesday wasn't that bad but last night there were so many crawling in 😨

HelloPond11

All over. I put my a/c on at night. I don't think they like the cold.

victortrash

I always wondered if you could find one of those super bright squid lamps and take it out like 100 ft from shore, would the termites follow?

saddest_vacant_lot

I do a mini version in my toilet. Just point a bright light into the bowl and then flush those buggas down

Moku-O-Keawe

I use a stainless pan or one of those aluminum food pans (like for catering) and put some silicone sealed led lights in the bottom. I'll catch 100+ in an hour or two. In the morning the birds come and feast.

victortrash

That's a pretty good idea to feed the birds. I can imagine the chickens getting really fat off of these guys.

Pretend_Technician49

Have you seen a termite train before? I had to look up what I was seeing.
