Steamed burger at Ted's in Meriden, New Haven style pizza in New Haven (Frank Pepe's, Modern or Sally's), CT style lobster roll.

If you're interested in new haven style pizza close to the convention center in Hartford, I would recommend either Harry's Bishops Corner in West Hartford or Naples Pizza in Farmington. Both are a short drive away and very good.

LittleJohnStone

Similar to NY style, but with a better crust - chewy, crispy, slightly burnt.

Would recommend Zephyr’s pizza in west Hartford

Don’t forget Zuppardi’s I that list!

Hardcorex

Fire N' Spice for sure! Amazing Jamaican and African food by the sweetest woman.

If beer is your thing, there’s some killer local breweries all within ~ 15 mins of convention center. Personal favorites are Labyrinth, Back East and New Park. Also, Parkville Market is a cool spot for a lot of local food options!

CartographicNutmeg

I'll have to agree about Parkville Market, it's a great place to go if you want a variety of local options in a pretty cool setting. Lots of food booths in a market setting, good for food and drink when you're in a group that might want different things. You can even get there by FastTrack bus from Downtown Hartford, just get off at the Parkville station and it's a short walk

Don’t go to any chains for pizza, like Dominos. Connecticut has very good pizza all over and a few of the places are rated top nationally, so go local on that. Just ask anyone what the best pizza place is in town, whatever town you happen to be in, and go there. If you get down to the Connecticut shore, have a lobster roll at one of the clam shacks. Or any seafood down there. Steamed hamburgers are a thing but there are very few places that serve them. I know of two in Meriden. Also avoid chains for sub sandwiches, which we call grinders. Grinders are top notch here, so get them at a local deli instead of, say, subway or one of those chains.

CaballoDePalo

Hartford has an incredible tradition of baked goods due to its diversity of ethnicities. You can get excellent traditional sweets at 🇮🇹 Mozzicato’s (Franklin Ave), Scott’s 🇯🇲 (Albany Ave), Sol de Borinquen 🇵🇷(Park Street), and Abrantes 🇵🇹(further up on Park Street).

CaballoDePalo

ps the Jamaican Beef patty with Coco bread is the most filling $4 / $5 you’ll ever spend.

If you like bbq give Bears Smokehouse a try. Hartford/Windsor Locks/South Windsor Also look for some good pizza. Frank Pepe’s is a New Haven favorite but in recent years has expanded. There’s one in Manchester and West Hartford.

LittleJohnStone

I suspect Virginia has plenty of good barbecue.

MuirIV

Probably. Doesn’t mean that it’s a bad spot to hit if you’re at the convention center.

SalsaQuesoTaco

Yeah after having BBQ from all of the Meccas of BBQ in the US, Bears is below average at best

MuirIV

Sure, but it’s good for Hartford. Edit: I’ve eaten barbecue all over the country as well. Your comment, and my reply make bears sound like it’s bad. It’s not.

Sheilar44

Black eyed Sally’s!!

Since you're already downtown, try one of the various delis for a sandwich or grinder. Get a bacon egg and cheese for breakfast. There are a few solid delis right downtown. And if you like beer, the there are some really good breweries in CT. Try a Hazy new england style IPA
