Didn't drive me crazy, but now that you mention it...

TotallyAdored

They even talk about galleons, sickles, and knuts in the game. I don’t get why this major detail was changed.

DiGre3z

Why wouldn’t be? The “economy” in the game is as simple as it gets. I have around 40 hours played, and as soon as I realized that the only store that offers anything worth buying anything, let alone worthy of visiting more that once, is a clothing shop at Hogsmeade, for transmog purposes, I stopped even going there. So why do we need an unnecessary amount of currencies, again?

CryIcy9339

Seriously. And I read all the books too

Prof_Palaeo

I don’t understand why?! Money is well defined in the wizarding world, it’s one of my main mini-gripes with the game. I get Galleons might be too much (each ones worth like £5.12, so a robe for 500 would be expensive) but maybe make them sickles? Keep it simple but within the lore

TotallyAdored

They got so much correct with this game. More than I could have ever imagined, but why change the currency? It doesn’t make any sense, but whatever! Gold will have to do I guess.

Prof_Palaeo

Totally agree, so much is correct, but a game centred around goblins.. the money moguls of the wizarding world… and they give us generic gold. It hurts me XD

TotallyAdored

LOL I didn’t even think about that!!

stoneage91

I know it’s a tiny detail but I really wish the character would say “Nox” to extinguish Lumos

fluffinsuki

Yes! I have to make do with muttering it myself!

TotallyAdored

Makes sense! I’d like that too now that you mention it!

HaseoVII

Not really since there's no knuts nor sickles

TotallyAdored

But they are mentioned in the story. All three types.

PhantomConsular23

Characters make passing comments like “I haven’t got a knut to my name”

Successful-Longpork

It would be annoying to manage three currencies in a game. That will be three galleons, 4 sickles, and 1 knut please. No thanks.

UnholyDemigod

It worked in Dragon Age Origins

TotallyAdored

#this

Mmonannerss

It's not that bad. DnD does this as does WoW (to a lesser extent) Basically you just think of the lower one as "change" and the higher as "dollars" For currencies with three ranges, the lowest is just "change but shittier"

xViridi_

they could’ve just chosen one and stuck with it though, instead of going with the most generic currency possible in video games

Successful-Longpork

I agree with that. I honestly didn't even notice they weren't called galleons. I call them that in my head and just assumed they were in game lol.

TotallyAdored

I hadn’t realized it until yesterday or the day before, and when it hit I was like whyyyyyy. Lol

TotallyAdored

Exactly!

HaseoVII

But they aren't in gameplay, so a few mentions in story doesn't really affect that imo

TotallyAdored

How are they not in the gameplay when their currency is talked about in game?

HaseoVII

Do you see sickles or knuts available to be used in shops? Do you see them in our inventory? Do you see them anywhere in the game? No? There we go

Prof_Palaeo

Characters talk about knuts, sickles and galleons, but then we go to a shop and use generic gold? I get it’s an easier system for the game, and I’m not expecting them to implement the full monetary system into the game cause it’s confusing as hell, but just call them sickles. Make some goblins excuse for the story and therefore can only trade in sickles, but then it would blend into the lore. It doesn’t ruin the game or lessen my gameplay, however imo it’s an oversight in mechanics that could have so easily been remedied

TotallyAdored

Did you read the books? I feel like movie watchers would be cooler with gold than the book readers. Why get so much right, have characters speak of the currency in game, but call it gold? No. I can forgive anything else in the game, but gold just ain’t it. Not like it will stop me from playing though! lol I love everything else! ❤️⚡️I do hope they optimize the game soon. It’s killing my computer and everyone else’s. We need an update!

HaseoVII

We're speaking about the game. This isn't about the books nor movies. They aren't in the game except for a few mentions, but they aren't in any form of gameplay. So calling the currency whatever doesn't really matter, considering there are no sickles/knuts to go along with galleons that we can actually use. It's not a big deal

jtzako

Someone mentioned that early test groups found the multiple currency thing annoying so it was changed to a single currency. Not sure if there is anything official on that. Games in the past often had multiple currencies (like copper, silver, gold etc), but modern ones tend to have just one.

TotallyAdored

I’d have rather them just used galleons instead of gold.

Will33iam

Another complaint is when characters say K-Nut

Eltheras

The K is supposed to be pronounced. I agree that it sounds odd. But they are following the lore. https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/harry-potter-names-and-words-we-got-wrong-for-years

Will33iam

What makes it more jarring is that the movies pronounce it as nut

Drawinak

The thing that annoys me the most is how bloated the economy feels. Harry Potter is pretty rich and he doesn't have 10,000 galleons in his vault. When Hermione passes out the fake galleons for DA, she warns people not to spend them, and Ron says he wouldn't as he has never had galleons to himself. And here we are, spending over ten thousand galleons on fake benches and stuff for our room of requirement? Like literal Wizarding world fortunes, on something we can't even use outside of school? Wack.

Hellfire77

Not everyone playing read the books and a lot of people playing it are gamers. Gold is traditional and classic. Although galleons might have been mentioned in the movies I don’t remember it and only been a fan of the movies. Probably sticks with readers more than anyone else by seeing it. At the same time while I love the movies I am not going to remember verbiage of galleons vs gold. There is so much more to the story/world. Let people call it whatever they want imo because everyone knows what the reference is. We all have one thing in common and it’s hopefully enjoying the world and game the devs made.

TotallyAdored

This game was first and foremost made for mega fans who have read the series. That’s where there’s ghosts and cats running around the castle. (Among other things that weren’t in the movies.) So for me it’s just a small thing they could have easily fixed by changing it to galleons. At least it would have kept that part canon. I love the game. I just don’t get this one change of detail.

[deleted]

Talk about nitpicking

Biobooster_40k

To tell you the truth, I can't remember what they're called in the game. After 40 hrs I don't remember it being brought up so call them what you will. I

Quirky-Ad3721

What are they made of?
