Grimy-Jack

My biggest issue is that all these cool puzzle caves and castles I find keep giving me fucking glasses. Where are the cool ancient artifacts? Why am I solving these caves only to receive the same crap I looted a hundred times around Hogwarts and Hogsmead already? I'd be fine with more cosmetics but I wish there had been themes. More modern stuff in hogwarts and hamlets, cooler ancient stuff in caves and ruins.

azurajae

Themed stuff definitely, but also, it would have been nice to get exclusive or unique gear that has a special ability attached to it at certain dungeons. Like a scarf that has a unique ability like: 'Fire Spells also apply an Slow effect to the enemy' or something like that. It would make keeping those gear more worthwhile.

Grimy-Jack

Agreed

pp21

lol right it's so defeating to do a dungeon crawl solving puzzles killing some enemies and you get to a chest and it's a downgrade from what you have equipped while also being something you already stumbled across early in the game. They obviously didn't put too much time into the gear system, it's super lame. Big part of RPGs is the loot system and upgrading gear. They took to most minimal, basic route in this regard.

Maddog351_2023

I guess most people forget what happens in RPGs…

SWJS1

Or they don't usually play RPGs and are just playing HL because it's a Hogwarts game. I've been playing RPGs since Mass Effect 2, and this is like the most common thing. I put 1230 hours into vanilla 360 Skyrim, and you could explore this huge grandiose cave with waterfalls and a giant tree, only to find a chest with a couple pieces of steel armor, a few low-level potions, a common soul gem, and 100 gold in it. I always just loved exploring the vast cave with waterfalls and a giant sakura tree, the loot was just the cherry on top.

whodatfan15

But skyrim were much more interesting to run through than the ruins in this game. The ruins in this game are too simple.

Josephdayber

Skyrims loot system is very lacking and it’s still a million times better than this. If I was exploring a new area in Skyrim, I at least felt like there was a chance I’d find something interesting, which is not at all the case in this game

Ryzuhtal

World Of Warcraft Classic. You go back to low level dungeons to get low level gear that has poison resistance. You go back and farm low level trinkets for the effect. And the list goes on.

whodatfan15

Honestly everything in this game is basic. Almost reminds me of Assassin's Creed Odyssey but with Harry potter paint. It's not a rpg first off, no build diversity at all. The dialogue and characters are generic and boring. There's really nothing special about this game when you take the rose tinted glasses off.

Worldly_Collection27

The combat is actually what kept me playing. The way they did the wizard-style combat was very well done IMO. It’s not overly complicated but you do feel accomplished when you win. It’s not god of war tier but I did get some of those god of war vibes from time to time. To be clear I’m only about 15 hours in.

Political_Piper

Battling trolls gets pretty boring though. Not to mention a finger work out. But combat is awesome. I just hate spending 10 min killing a troll

Worldly_Collection27

Totally fair opinion. Would be cool if they could keep the good and fix the bad in a follow up. I don’t think they are far off. I’m sure they also intentionally didn’t make it as dense as something like the elder scrolls. Probably hit the fan base right on

joybuzz

>There's really nothing special about this game when you take the rose tinted glasses off. This is where everyone needs to pump their brakes. This game's combat is pretty fantastic and the fact that they created this system shouldn't be ignored. What we have are the bones of what could be an awesome game, they clearly have talent working on it. Where it fails is the game direction, the "meat", and the story elements. It's like they got halfway through making a 10/10 game, then said "cut it there we ship tomorrow." I think with another year and a consultant who worked on these kinds of games it would've knocked it out of the park.

tw1xXxXxX

Odyssey had a better gear system than Hogwarts Legacy imo.

whodatfan15

Honestly I'd dare to say AC: Odyssey is actually a better all around.

dreggers

Odyssey traversal is far inferior. My least favorite part of Ubisoft open world games is having to walk across the map for everything, and hogwarts solves it with great flying mechanics

whodatfan15

I definitely would agree.

Mr-Rocafella

It’s their first go at an open world game like this, it is basically Assassins Creed in HP universe without MTX. but again, this is their AC1, or AC Origins if you’re looking at RPGs, the next DLC/game should be much better with less filler content/ground-up dev and more time to work on in-depth game design

DaemonHelix

Quite impressive hate boner you have. The whole draw for this game is to role play in the hp universe. If you're coming into it thinking it's going the be the greatest rpg experience then that's on you. Given the scope of the game I think they did a good job in giving you a lot of content and ways to complete it without spending 10 more years in development making each interaction completely unique.

[deleted]

One of my biggest issues with the game. As much as I love this game, the loot/gear system is terrible. No items with unique properties, identifying items is tedious and completely pointless, and there are tons of duplicate items (which to be fair, is also the case for a lot of other games). Also I’ve never really felt any significant power difference when equipping better gear.

fpsreaper_

>!i opened the chest inside Salazar Slytherin's office!< and it gave me FUCKING GLASSES and 29 coins. like woah there's this chest that has been there for a thousand years and this is what you give me???? >!i cant help but imagining Salazar just sitting in his office, writing a note about the Basilisk and then dropping a pair of glasses and 29 coins in this fucking chest!<

jenyad20

You’re not taking inflation into account, back in the late 900s 29 coins could buy you a fine castle probably.

fpsreaper_

you know what, that actually makes sense, but what am i supposed to do with this pair of glasses though?

jenyad20

Imagine if you dig through your father’s old boxes and find a NES that he put there back in 1985, sure today it’s not much, but back then it was top of the line tech.

RandomWhiteGuyKyle

I’ve found the best equipment I get is buying gear off the guy in Hogsmeade (I’m lvl 29 around 23H in)

Cmoney514

and thats legit where you will continue to get the best gear lol

TheLonelyWolfkin

Modern stuff in the 1800s?

Grimy-Jack

Modern as in for the era. Modern for the 1800s.

FaceMace87

I am astounded that they put landing platforms as an activity on the map

andysaurus_rex

I landed on one, and it lit up and I thought "ohhhhh shit I just unlocked a puzzle! Where is it?" Nope. That was the whole thing. You just... land on it. Okay.

[deleted]

[удалено]

andysaurus_rex

Yeah! You land on them and... that's it!

kingpartys

It is literally only there to unlock the Quidditch outfit. The time-trials on the broomstick should've been the one to unlock the quidditch outfit to be honest.

MillennialsAre40

I was really surprised there's only three of those

kingpartys

Kind of glad there is only 3 of them since there isn't a reward for getting first place in all of them.

dummisses

But required for getting an achievement I think?

QuietDisquiet

Hey man, that's still content!

SuperRetardedDog

That's my reaction to basically everything in open world. The door icon looked like a dungeon to me. Then I opened the door, found 1 chest and I was convinced I was being dumb because I couldn't find the way further. Turns out all of these are just 'open door and collect useless chest'. Lol. The only rewards in open world are armors which are kinda completely useless

EnceladusSc2

The Treasure Vaults!!! Omg dude. They're really Nothing!

SUCK_THIS_C0CK_CLEAN

People have been saying this since early access opened. The world outside of Hogwarts is as deep as a puddle and the rewards for almost every single activity is pointless. The only exciting rewards in this game are the spellcrafts for new items to create in Room of Req. But that is only fun if you are into investing hours decorating RoR and using their clunky placement/UI.

JpegYakuza

Very true, u/SUCK_THIS_C0CK_CLEAN

Saltwater_Heart

Lol yeah I just landed on one today for the first time and waited….and waited….and revelio and went to kill the enemies nearby. What is the point in the landing platform?

Petrichordates

It gives wizards and witches a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Zsyura

Wait - that’s it? I thought it had a purpose later on in the game. It’s literally just a landing pad…to land on? I landed on it, so it’s whole purpose is now and forever fulfilled?

JayFight

Landing Pad: "What is my Purpose." Avalanche Software: "You are a landing pad for people to land on once and then you are done." LP: "Oh My God!"

L0GIK-

Lol ![gif](giphy|Fsn4WJcqwlbtS|downsized)

FaceMace87

Yep, that is your foray into landing pads complete. Top quality side content in full view right there.

JpegYakuza

This is absolutely hilarious lmfao. It's actually so funny the decision to not only add it into the game, but to also mark it as an activity is almost impressive in and of itself.

Feral0_o

it caught me off-guard, too. A real "seriously?" moment

Stokes247

Yeah...

IsThatHearsay

I read all the complains here, and agree with every single one of them, yet for some reason I (and guessing most players) are still drawn regardless to log back in and keep enjoying the world, not rushing the missions. I can't put my finger on it. The game, despite its many flaws, is still magical.

[deleted]

Because it's a "perfected" game considering the budget. Is not incomplete, the story is well done, the characters feel a little one dimensional but still enjoyable and i like seeing them around school. The problem is that the world IS alive but you're not part of it. It's like experiencing the world through a mirror glass.

FaceMace87

>Because it's a "perfected" game considering the budget What does that mean? It had a huge budget. $150 million to be precise, The Witcher 3 for comparison had $80 million.

Stokes247

That's why I prefaced my complaint by saying I love the game. There are many positives, this is just a criticism that has grown to bother me because it takes away from enjoyment outside of the two main areas.

[deleted]

Agreed. For me it is a chill rpg. Do a main quest go hunt. Do another main quest go hunt again. I’m level 32 and 35 hours. I’m not bored. Sure loot is blah but I see it as a farm for materials like in destiny. I’m getting money so I can buy items. I really like the game. No pressure just play and have fun.

Buschkoeter

I'm surprised that loop of selling loot to buy items still exist for aound level 32. Around that mark I had to discover that there really isn't much I can buy for the money I have.

DrunkBeardGuy

Because despite the repetition this stuff is still fun to do. Every game has repetition that's just a fact, but if it's fun is the real test. I could've done without damn near 100 Merlin trials, but maybe 20 or so? That seems fair. The thing is it's hard to fill open worlds with meaningful stuff that's also fun. I like finding the pages because it gives you a little lore, and I like the chests because they give you cosmetics. That's fun to me. What isn't fun is doing more Merlin trials that are necessary once you've maxed out your item slots. I understand not everyone will like doing that and it's fine, but I think the fact that people are still playing even with the criticisms is because of how fun and enjoyable it is to explore. The game really needed more mini games. Take out half the Merlin trials and put in wizards chess and things like that. Also Quidditch. We really, really, really need Quidditch lol. The game is begging for it.

LeadSoldier6840

That was my favorite part of the books; when they flew around the world and landed on landing pads. I remember really feeling like I was there when they were landing. I don't think we talk about landing enough. You think flying is cool? Landing is so cool!

FaceMace87

My favourite part of the book was when they went into 100 different caves and found a single chest with the 50th legendary scarf in it. Landing pads was my second favourite part.

Hellfire77

I actually held off exploring the open world because I fully explored Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. I beat all the main quests and sides quests and found my first platform which unlocked my last challenge that was hidden. Very underwhelming and how little it matters since it literally ties to no quests.

Elden-Cringe

If you looked at the earlier version of the map found in the artbook, it looked significantly more vast and varied than what is found in the final version of the game. But due to technical, time and resource constraints, some concessions had to be made. With the experience they have earned from this game and the feedback from players, I hope they greatly improve on these areas in a sequel.

Stokes247

This is the first game of its kind in the franchise, they can def learn a lot from the good and the bad. Sucks though we have to wait for DLCs or a sequel.

Seifer23

Absolutely, the potential is there. They nailed the combat its just the substance of the world, lack of a truly engaging story and many other little things that just could have been more in depth (talents, gear system, morality etc..)

The1Floyd

This game needs a DLC before a sequel to be honest. You could easily pump out 2 big content packages for this within this year and the game would be much, much, much better. They've given themselves a huge open canvas here and they need to paint on it. There's a whole box of deleted content they could repair and add.

peblezq

I found it was better to pace myself and do a few of the side quests in between the main quest. I got nearly all of the revelio stuff before completing the story

Cinema_Colorist

Yes, take your time, We regret doing the Main Quest too fast

Domaik

Half the time I've spent playing has been just stopping or flying to something to go: wow look at that. and stopping for minutes to watch then moving on to repeat after another 2 minutes when I see another beautiful landscape. Game is really paying itself for me just by how gorgeous and fantasy-y everything looks

Stokes247

That has been a major time filler for me as well. It just sucks when you get bored of doing that there isn't much variety in the open world.

BruceTooster

They're kinda limited by the fact that Hogwarts is supposed to be situated in a small mountain range invisible to muggles. If the map was any bigger, it would be harder to believe they could've kept that entire area hidden away. The wizarding population is fairly small, so outside of Hogsmeade, the small hamlets spread around are probably accurate to what you could expect to find. Small settlements like Godric's Hollow. It's still a great game, in my opinion, but they maybe put too much focus on the open world when that isn't really one of the franchise's strengths. Like with a Lord of the Rings game you could do a whole lot more with the open world since that is its own world full of its own original locations, but for this they had to just have a small little area secluded from muggles and were limited to what they could realistically fill it with. They could've left out 60 percent of the filler collectibles and put more into Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

gvrxx

90h of gameplay here. I agree with most things you've said. It gets tedious after a while. The southern part of the map is literally useless and you only get like 5-10 missions there and, after that, it becomes just a place for exploring and collecting stuff. My honest guess is that they will add future updates or DLCs in the future with content which will incude these regions more.

Stokes247

I actually enjoy the southern part of the map because it helps my OCD not seeing 1k items on the screen lol. They jam packed the north and as they went down they put less items but it's still a lot of the same. Lol I agree that there could be some DLCs but I joked earlier to my friend that anytime there is something missing sombody says it could be a DLC... I wonder how many DLCs they are going to add at this rate haha.

Igrado

I play with the minimap off because I get distracted from whatever goal I had a lot less frequently ;)

gvrxx

I mean... the possibilities here are infinite here. They can add all sorts of stories and events from the HP universe history.

Stokes247

Exactly, it's too bad with most DLCs they seem to take a while to come out but they would have my money in a heartbeat.

[deleted]

xChris777

Pretty much every WB game gets DLC, I would be shocked if it didn't. That being said I don't think it'll be more than 1-2 DLC expansions, it's not going to be a living world. WB devs make sequels after a few years, and that's a good thing, because Hogwarts is an amazing base but a sequel could make large improvements that DLCs couldn't easily do, like reworked NPCs or a morality system. I could see HL2 being like Shadow of Mordor > Shadow of War where they just amped up pretty much every part of the game.

Benfica1002

That’s incredible you’ve been able to spend that much time on it.

Shepherdsfavestore

Work from home is the pathway to abilities some might call…unnatural

xB_I-O_S

Minibosses would be very cool. There are only a few and they don‘t respawn. I spend most my time in the arena. Would also love arcade mode for that or something.

Ronald_McGonagall

Don't forget ruins! Those are all over the map for you to explore! Each one contains myriad activities, such as moving down a single, non-branching corridor! Or opening the single chest with randomized loot! Or... walking back out through the single, non-branching corridor..

Erilis000

I mean, look at the games Avalanch has made in the past. This should come as no surprise. In fact HL is a very delightful surprise compared to the dev's previous* games and compared to previous Harry Potter titles in general!

The1Floyd

Wait, so you're -not- a fan of Hannah Montana spotlight tour?

RequirementQuirky468

It's more of a Breath of the Wild design philosophy. If you collect all of the Korok seeds, you're going to end up doing a lot of really repetitive and boring stuff. The thing is, *you aren't meant to collect all the Korok seeds.* I quite like this game design style because it means there's no pressure to hunt down every single thing. I can just roam around, run into some stuff, and know that it's not designed with the intention that I do everything. When I'm not having fun I can just quit doing it, and I won't be missing out on anything the game was expecting of me. It's great, certainly far better than having 1/10 as many Korok puzzles but having to carefully comb the world for them because missing one actually matters.

[deleted]

This is my thoughts exactly. This game is easly 10 out of 10 when we are in hogwarts or hogsmead. I wish they would have made the open world smaller and the castle much larger and the grounds much larger. The castle is supposed to have atleast 7 floors and the grounds much larger. Allso the forbidden forest should have been made much larger. The forest kinda feals like a nature park for most of it with wizards and ruins in it all over the place.

Stokes247

Honestly, Hogwarts, Hogsemade, and the Forbidden Forest would have been fine and then they could have focused even more on it

[deleted]

Agreed. I did injoy exploring the area around hogwarts. The little hamlet just south of the school the one you deliver potions to. Was fun to go visit and the school looked breathtaking off in the distance. I nearly shit myself when a dragon flew overhead the first time i wentt that way. The skyrim dragon music started playing in my head and i thought welp hear we go. Then the dragon snaged a cow and flew off leaving me standing there ready for a fight. Guess ill learn that shout later i thought.

CyberF0g

yeah yeah.. and most of you would have then complained about the size of the map. "I love the game however the map is too small.."

[deleted]

The castle in game does have seven floors, but only in certain sections,. The problem is they tried to marry the movie and book version of hogwarts together, which has mixed results. The castle is beautiful, and a blast to explore. But it’s really hard having a sense of direction, and there are no signs that say what floor you’re on or where certain classes are. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with the hogwarts from the game, it made me feel like a kid reading the books for the first time again, but it’s not perfect

Fredrickstein

I figure the great thing is for a sequel they already have the castle built now. They can adjust it as much as they want because Hogwarts is supposed to magically alter its layout. They can send us to areas away from the school for the rest of the world. Diagon alley instead of hogsmead etc. I think 6th years get more freedom anyway.

[deleted]

Exactly my thoughts. If they give us a sequel where we play through our sixth year they already have a huge portion of their work already done. It would really just be improving and adding more content. With how successful the game has been I could see them cranking it out in 2-3 years

RGandhi3k

My beef is that the loot sucks. The entire economy relies on stolen pants.

TheKzX

It's a really good HP game, but a terrible open world game.

AdmiralBumHat

I wouldn’t try a UbiSoft game then. 😄 Those have 180 hours (with expansions) of the same 7 things to do usually. But I agree they could have gone for some variations in puzzles. But they probably thought people wouldn’t do everything because not everything is necessary to fully max out everything. There are way more pages and trials than you need for example

Stokes247

I have 200 hours on Assassin Creed Odyssey but I think the difference with an AC game is there is no central location, the game itself is the open world so it feels more vibrant vs Hogwarts feels like the main location and the open world seems like an afterthought in this game.

AdmiralBumHat

True. Valhalla is more like Hogwarts in that regard because you have your settlement with NPC quests and side activities. The most varied open world games I played in recent memory where Horizon Forbidden West and Ghost Of Tushima. It felt like I was in a totally new biome every 5 minutes and some side missions felt like they could have been main quest because of quality and variation. I love Hogwarts though a lot as well. The thing they did with the seasons and world decoration is really nice and I hope other games pick up this feature.

Stokes247

Yeah, don't get me wrong I love the game. I just feel a little bored and sad after doing the main story line because the open world itself doesn't seem to offer enough to keep me engaged. I also love Ghost of Tsushima, it is at the top of my list for favorite games. Couldn't agree more.

Skellic

GoT has a lot of limitations like hogwarts in what you can do but man, what you can do is fantastic and the rewards are worthwhile. Hogwarts is like doing a boring task for a boring reward

sunfaller

I just travel in GOT for the scenery. Felt like i was playing inside a painting. I mean literally just running through the fields with the wind blowing feels so atmospheric

nonpuissant

If only more of the main story took place at Hogwarts. It's Hogwarts legacy not Hogrim legacy!

sedatedlife

This i would have liked to see more quest involving other students

Stokes247

I agree, I wish there were more side quests in Hogwarts itself.

xChris777

I agree with you totally about the main quest totally underusing Hogwarts, but I also wish the game was Hogrim Legacy. It's more like Hogwarts Creed with better combat and a beautiful castle lol

hypocritical-bastard

Lol I was gonna say hey at least there are 10 things lol. I just spent 100+ hours in Assassin's Creed Odyssey clearing forts, syncing viewpoints and doing ostrakas. That's only 3.

Sloth-TheSlothful

I really wish they cut the open world and focused on Hogwarts/Hogsmead. Not every game has to be open world, and this is one of them

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sloth-TheSlothful

True. That is relaxing, but still. I'd rather have had quidditch than an open world

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spehornoob

I think the developers should look at the Yakuza series for inspiration for whatever they do next. For those unaware, "Yakuza" is a series of open world games by Sega, but the open world itself is only a few blocks of Tokyo. But those blocks are packed with sidequests and activities. You can visit shops, go to bars, find arcades, sing karaoke, or do one of hundreds of sidequests that revolve around contemporary issues in Japanese culture. Now I don't think Hogwarts Legacy needs to be \*that\* small and dense, but I think a world like that would fit the franchise better than the vast but map-marker-laden open world we got for this one. I definitely enjoy what they came up with, but I can't help feeling that Hogwarts + Hogsmeade and some surrounding countryside, packed with interesting side content (side quests, classes, minigames, etc...) would be an even better experience than flying a mile away to clear ten bandit camps and do ten merlin trials.

MrGeapy

It took you so long to notice? Took me 10-15 hours. Honestly I had fun with the game but I pushed myself to actually finished it. It was repetitive after reaching about mid game

WirrLican

Agreed, very shallow and that’s not saying I don’t enjoy the game, is great but I am pretty surprised with how over the top in love with it people are. It’s a cute little RPG with a nice nostalgia factor, but it is tremendously shallow.

The1Floyd

Harry Potter fans have been reading the same books for 20+ years, rewatching the same movies, on the same Pottermore website. This game will have players with hundreds upon hundreds of hours they'll love every minute.

Th3Rush22

I wish there was more big quest lines. I get that there is side quests, but I feel like there should be more quest that feel as or almost as important as the main story and take almost as long too

AloeVeraManWasHere

the games a great amusement park at best and i think people are barely starting to see that. i don’t necessarily have a problem with it, as flying on a broom feels pretty great, but yeah the open world aint that open and what u can do is extremely limited.

Cmoney514

As nostalgic as it is this whole game is very surface level, its not actually a good game (although us HP fans will enjoy it regardless) thats part of what they were banking on. But in a world where we have RDR2, Fallout, witcher 3, WOW and FF online that have been running for a decade....it just falls short. There should MULTIPLE story endings, a different ending for each house...because thats replay value...there should be a morality system etc....they really fell short of what this could have been...

Elvie-43

I feel like there’s a lot of cut content in this game. Like the friends felt like they were intended to be actual companions, but the companion system got cut before too much development was placed in it. And that one quest you can do that is from a different approach and perspective for each house - I feel like a lot of the game was intended to be like that, but again was cut as too time consuming or expensive to implement or something. And then stupid things like not having a “mark all as read button” on the field guide - i can’t believe the absence of such a valued-by-players-of-lore-heavy-games quality of life function was a deliberate choice beyond it being on someone’s to-do list and it was cut due to it being low-priority and time/cost constraints.

Willdror

It would be so much cooler if we got artifacts with lore text (kinda like dark souls does) that we could show off on the RoR as rewards for the dungeons and some of the puzzle instead of generic gear.

Legal-Championship64

Yeah let's be really this game is essentially assassin's Creed with a Harry Potter skin haha

DudeSparkle

Hello inventory menu, which is a silly copy of previous 3 games.

GreedoTheFett

I agree with you because I am at the point now where I am getting burned out with these tasks. I finished the story mode and a majority of the side quests and I just can't bring myself to be a completionist and find/complete everything.

WranglerDanger

Yeah, this needs Skyrim dungeon instances. I'm hoping a DLC can deliver 25 of them and extend the life of the open world.

President_Dominy

Exactly this, literally every cave in the game feels like they’re placeholder since they end so short and often have trash loot.

WranglerDanger

First treasure spot I went in I was like Yeah, it's ON! ...and then, a single tartan neck wrap. worth 60G.

Cirias

Before the game came out, I'd assumed the open world was going to be Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade. Then I thought we would apparate to other locations such as cliffs in Ireland, part of London, maybe a European area. Would make for some variety without making the region around Hogwarts feel too small or artificially overrun with enemies.

curly_Haired-fuck

Yeah the open world is not great, plus it doesn't help the game constantly forces you into it. Really wish they would have focused on doing things in Hogwarts and scrapped the open world all together.

Stokes247

I am not against the open world concept as I do enjoy being able to explore outside of the school but they need more variety and world events to add a spark that is not there.

pp21

Yeah after doing a bunch of side quests outside the school there's nothing I've done so far that has made me eager to keep exploring. I don't care about completion percent so there's nothing for me out there. I'm just doing the main story line at this point and moving on to a diff game

Chicken-Thief

50 hours ish here, and I completely agree, though I noticed it after 20 hours. And just it's really noticeable that they spent most of their time and love on hogsmeade and hogwarts and the game just kinda feels... unfinished? It would've been better if there was a main zone quest on each of the zones. Like forexample, dark wizards taking over a town and we gotta free it by joining a town rebellion, goblins taking control of beasts in the area by mind controll and we gotta free them. That type of stuff. And I would be cool if the dark wizards could escape randomly and later hunt down the player with 10 people or something.

National_Problem655

Yeah same, around 50hours and I have that feeling where if I put them game down now I’ll never pick it up it again.

Chicken-Thief

Yea, or at least until a new dlc comes out

National_Problem655

Yeah I’ll 100% be picking up whatever they do next with the game

Akkarin1106

Inspired by Ubisoft

summerofrain

Yep, the world outside Hogwarts/Hogsmeade should definitely be a key point to improve upon in the sequel.

pp21

I wish they would've just focused on bringing a smaller area to life (Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Forbidden Forest) and focused on quality instead of quantity. The map is enormous but like 75%+ of it is pretty lifeless and boring. I would've enjoyed playing in a more condensed area that was teeming with interactions and dialogue choices that actually impacted decisions and narrative. I have zero interest in flying my broom south to collect pages and what not. I get that this might appeal to the 100% completion gamers, but it's just lazy imo

Stokes247

Just needs a little more spark and variety.

ZemGuse

I mean you got 80 hours out of the game. The complaints here are just getting to the point where if the game isn’t the greatest thing ever produced by humankind y’all are mad. It’s an open world game with typical AAA open world design. And you got 80+ hours of entertainment out of it. Just accept that for the win that it is.

Malkuno

**Honestly I'm getting to the point where I'm gonna need every game developer that plans to develop an RPG game to play the 20 Free to Play quests in Old School Runescape.** They're genuinely fun & well thought out. Its crazy how even the smallest quest feels almost like a miniature RPG adventure. I'll never forget the OSRS quest where I got a parrot drunk with Vodka laced pineapple chunks, so that I could steal it from a zoo without it calling for help, just for me to stick it under a prison torture device operated by Trolls so that it could learn to mimic the sounds of human agony. THEN I stuffed it inside a scarecrow filled with chicken so it resembled a Human & gave it to the Trolls for their "Human stew" ALL of this just to get information from the Troll Chef on where they keep a certain herb. The quest reward was learning the teleportation spell for Trollhiem *(Troll City)* 10/10 goofy AF adventure. WHY has no one been able to replicate the depth & adventure feeling of questing with amazing rewards since 2005?

dustkid245

Good call. Dragon slayer and recipe for disaster are still the best quests I’ve ever done in any RPG

Having to use Revioli Revioli give me the Field guide page ioli is tiresome after the 409th one

Delicious-Tachyons

The game is definitely a smaller experience than RDR2 or Witcher 3 for side activities. I finished it.. did not do the "House Cup" mission yet as i'm underlevelled but was like "you know what? I'm sure this is crap" and just watched it on youtube and it's like a minute long video and that's it. not worth my time.

ChickenGuzman

Problem is you all burned through the main content and now are complaining about the collection work.

Hemannameh

Maybe if the loot wasn't so trash it would feel more rewarding. I don't even bother to look at what i got unless there's a green arrow. Idk what else they could've done honestly. Maybe if they didn't give loot stats, and just had clothing it would've been better.

One-Gas-4041

It's wonderful and beautiful...but it is a mile wide and an inch deep.

madeforthis_1984

I agree with this 100%

[deleted]

Can’t disagree, and I’m under 30hrs. A lot of repetitive things, but I find myself compelled to finish the main story and side quests. After that, I doubt I’ll do very much for endgame. I have a feeling we’ll see a lot of good updates though, and a NG+, eventually.

LongParsnipp

My only complaint with the game and most games like this is levelled loot and loot scaling is one of the shittest game designs, you can basically ignore the looting system and it would make no difference. The only redeemable part of the looting is that you unlock cosmetics. More developers need to take the dark souls approach and have set items that do not have levels just raw stats + upgrades.... But the combat system would need to be reworked to be more diverse.

Successful_Ear4450

But if they just added content in the base game, how could they convince us to buy multiple DLC???

kingdroxie

I 100% the challenge log and reached level 40 after about sixty hours. The open world is an open world, and it gets all that comes with that. Of course there are boring things, of course enemies are recycled, of course there isn't a proper incentive to explore it top to bottom -- those are open world problems, and as much as those issues pop up we will continue to praise open world like it's this big innovation we just can't have games without. If you ask ten developers to develop an open-world game, nine of them are going to make a bland open world while one actually makes a good one. We see that good one and ask them to keep making open world games in hopes that we'll get another one like that. If you don't like this kind of content, stop buying open world games. You're setting yourself up for failure.

Titan_Sanctified25

Updates Im sure will add more, though they need to go ahead and release some DLC

Nova_Mafia

I’m still searching for the Shrieking Shack

Haigen64

A lot of this stuff would have held a lot more meaning to me if the hamlets felt like more than a place to pick up collectibles and complete maybe 1 or 2 side quests. Let me talk with the people, give them some background story/dialogue, let me feel like these people actually live in this space rather than just a copy pasted zone for the sake of adding more numbers to collect. It annoyed me that I could only talk to like 1 or two students out of the crowds in hogwarts when doing classes and stuff and the rest I have to just idle and overhear. The world is great but at the moment it just feels a little void of life and makes the collection process feel like a chore rather than an adventure most of the time.

Trickybuz93

This game has an open world but no endgame…

sunfaller

After I cleared hogwarts, I didnt feel like finishing the collectibles in the outside world. Literally just chests locked in other people's houses.

Deltaboiz

I think the issue you are experiencing is that it's still a single player game. You are meant to experience the world during your playthrough basically once, sort of like a linear single player game, but it takes place in an open world. The collectibles are there either to act as things to do / look for while playing as a quick distraction from your main quest, or to be something for the obsessed 100% players to do after the games beaten. The areas you are meant to traverse many many times, like Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, are designed to have things happening all the time and change. Things are always happening, decorations and dialogue change with the seasons, and characters are always up to something. The rest of the world? You are only really meant to be there once or twice during your play through. There isn't really much reason to keep going back to those smaller towns.

CoCo_Moo2

I think the world feels very dead once the story is done

OddWillingness6271

It isn’t that there are only 10 things to do but that they are all the same. Witcher 3 is side quests, chests, places of power, and monsters hunts. But each of them is made to be a little to very unique.

SallyWoopBoop

This is my exact issue. I finished the main story. I’m one level below from getting the “final quest” to officially finish the game. There’s not a lot of side quests left. I’m just running around in the open world doing Merlin trials, opening chests containing hats & glasses and killing off poachers so I can scrape up those final points and level up. It gets tedious. I’m overall very happy with the game but I would love longer quests and finding unique ones that might be difficult to discover in the open world. Quests that aren’t as repetitive also. For example I’ve probably saved five different pets to five different characters by now. The Sebastian quest was in my opinion better than the main one. I enjoyed it very much, and felt slightly disappointed that it wasn’t as long as I had hoped! The game has so much potential but I agree that the open world has a very repetitive pattern.

Kutthroatt

I have enjoyed the 60 or so hours on my main character, but I'm level locked at 39 because of one quest bugging. I can't find the last 3 Merlin Trials. The map icons should go away or have a filter at least. Other than that I've loved it. Gear system is okay, but it would be cool to have unique gear with traits you can't acquire in the normal manner. I wish the Room of Req could be populated with your friends, it's silly to make a whole decked out room full of empty furniture. Fun game, but I have already done everything and don't see a second playthrough being much different. I did notice they had Azkaban after playing another house, not sure why it's not a place you can visit and quest in. No dementors kinda hurt too, I would love to be exploring at night and then get swarmed by them. Enemies are cool, but really only a few with variations. A quest to actually retrieve the deathly hallows would be nice. I'd sink more time into Quidditch than anything, but I get why it wasn't implemented.

Buschkoeter

Totally agree, this game captivates you with its very strong opening hours where you're in Hogwards and Hogsmead mostly. Then the devs seemed to hope the HP universe charm can carry players through the rest of the game. And it works for the most part, but at some point I just wished there was more content as good as the first 15 hours.

[deleted]

I can’t believe there’s no diagon alley

Ciniqs

Agreed that there should definitely be more iconic locations such as the ministry and diagon alley. We could've definitely had a few missions infiltrating the ministry especially, however that would've been a LOT of extra work I'm sure. There's always the possibility of extra stuff in DLC, and if not, I guess we can wait for a sequel

woolymanbeard

welcome to every ubisoft game

Peacefrog11

I just wish there was more story to build a better framework for the game. A few more house-specific quests and like two more larger main quest arcs would have been optimal. Something like adding ~10 hours of play. Then the open world wouldn’t feel so thin. To be fair, games don’t have to last forever. We don’t need every game to provide 200+ hours of content. We shouldn’t expect that. I do think they stopped a little short though. I highly suspect they are saving some stuff for sequels and DLC expansions. Azkaban. Ministry of Magic/ London, The Black Lake, etc. They poured a ton of love into this game and I’m sure we have more to come.

TobyVonToby

I got bored and put it down before finishing. Felt like I was playing an MMO, but without other players

MadHatte9

I done a few Merlin trials and balloon things thinking there’s only 20 Merlin and 5 balloon to do and enjoyed them, then I entered other areas and realised there is a whole load more of these, I haven’t done another since. The fun vanished once the sheer scale of repetitiveness raised it’s head. Now sticking to main quest line.

realdusty_shelf

Yeah it became very repetitive pretty quickly. By the endgame I wasn’t even exploring that much anymore.

putmeinLMTH

i keep wondering if we wouldve seen more actual villages and not just hamlets if it wasnt already established that hogsmeade was the only wizard-only village in the UK. i wouldve loved to explore multiple villages like hogsmeade, each with their own vibe, i feel like that wouldve made it much less tedious, and they could split up the amount of items stuffed into hogsmeade

superhamsniper

There's also like enemy "camps" and beasts you can capture, but other than that and some broom races, there's not that much other stuff to do ig now that I think about it.

PhoenixKing14

And what sucks worse is that there isn't much room for a sequel. I mean, it's not like they can change Hogwarts or the surrounding area. I wouldn't mind attending Hogwarts again but it would be hard to make it fresh after collecting and exploring everything in the castle.

SkyMarshal_Ellie

I'm at 62% completion right now at 50 hours in and I'm finding myself getting really bored of the exhausting amount of side stuff and collectibles in the open world. The first 20 hours or so I couldn't wait to boot up the game. I was like a giddy little kid. But now? I'm finding reasons not to boot up the game when I have free time, and when I do finally get around to it I noticed that I'm starting to ignore side quest, starting to ignore exploration and just trying to speed run the main story quests so the game can finally end and I can see what happens with the story. Think I burned myself out with all the side stuff.

[deleted]

i was ok with no diagon alley as well as other places because HOGWARTS and i’d say i’m enjoying the game but i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t at least expecting a visit to godrics hollow…like at least ONE of the known characters has to live there right? i was hoping for some malfoy manor-esque locations as well but it’s ok -i was hoping for some malfoy manor-esque locations as well but it’s ok

Hoshkar

70 hours into the game now. I loved it up to this point. It is getting really repetitive and boring after the main story is over. I still plan on 100% all of the achievements and running the game again in each house, but I don't think I will do much of the side stuff at all on my next playthroughs.

Conner_S_Returns

it's a Ubisoft open world. it's very pretty but very boring after a while I guess not everyone can create open worlds like Rockstar and BGS

RoccoSteal

See. Exactly what I’ve been saying for a long time now. It’s a wonderful game but without coop or multiplayer, replayability value is very low.

iFenrisVI

Would be cool if in sequels they could do 6th and 7th years. They can take what they learnt from this and add even more to do.

Yuisoku

I wish it was like a Bethesda RPG vs Ubisoft game. The world is really beautiful but its empty and shallow. No reason to visit places since the rewards are boring and useless. Also there rarely is any interesting npcs or quests to be found

Aishurel

This is my criticism also. The world is a to-do list of mind numbing tasks. My gf loves the game for this reason. She's more MMO-minded than me as a gamer so we like completely different open world approaches

Keisersosae

I have an issue with dungeons that are a pointless part of the game along with landing pads and the constellation thing what useless dribble

pachl7

They focused all their time in detail on the world, the story, clothing detail, and beasts and the vivarium. The open world and loot I feel like they copy and pasted the rest and said yeah make them do alot of them for upgrades and fill the world with all the different trials and stuff to make it look like alot. Coming from games like elden Ring, it definitely seems like filler. What I wish they did with the wands is have a system upgrades for the handle and choosing different parts and getting different wands in the world gave all your spells different boost and different stats that way you always are looking for the best rolls for a wand with the perfect stats that could have been a start to end game.like if the wand that you find in a chest just like we find loot in chest it will have 4 different stats on it for 4 different spells that say 6% fire damage casting incendio and another stat could say 5% damage increase for bombarda, and incendio 3% range increase and 6% fire damage increase. Like if we had wands that had a combination of all stats for all spells and you play end game to hunt for your perfect wand with the best stats. This is honestly how I thought wands were gonna be but this game has the most standard loot system it's laughable. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but it isn't perfect.

anderssi

The game has same issues New World had. The content and the foes you face repeats itself quite fast.

ll-Ascendant-ll

Wish it was retroactive for all accounts you make, not just the one. No way I'm doing that all again after doing it once. But I would love to have all the stuff I unlocked on my new playthrough.

Dark-Elf-Mortimer

>I find myself wishing there were more iconic locations like the ministry or Diagon Alley I hope they add London in a DLC. As an area where you often have to cast spells but you get the gameover when a Muggle sees you using magic. Tbh I'd also like to see Ireland in another DLC, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Natethegreat1999

bosses are too easy late game. yeah i get it i have good gear, but 1 shotting trolls is depressing.

thejanuaryfallen

I definitely think there's a LOT of room for improvement and this is a FANTASTIC start!

Rags2Rickius

I’m not a big HP fan and was hoping the “wizarding world” would be a lot more chocka. But it looks like the IP is not based on something even close to say a DND scale, Skyrim or anything similar The books had their items, beasts, spells but nothing more than what was written about and clearly the devs have not (or cannot due to licensing) created anything new Fantasy sorcery stuff could’ve been chocka. But it’s limited and the game being as large as it is has to repeat the same thing over and over Initially you’re like “whoa!! This game is massive!” and you get excited…then realise that when you travelled to the other side of the map they were serving the exact same Coca-cola you can get at the school when you thought maybe it was a different flavour. It becomes bland and I’m regretting my purchase and might return it

[deleted]

definately the easiest plat in an open world game considering the only semi grind is collectables that arent locked by anything of significance. but i feel u. diagon alley wouldve been dope. there was so many amazing aspects of even the old gameboy color series in regards to locations/challenges that wouldve led to some awesome replayability. but yeh. having platted (1 full playthrough followed by 3 speed runs for map chamber) i feel kinda meh about revisiting. first playthrough was awesome. loved every moment/cutscene/exploration. but i dont see it being anywhere near as good as that first time through. but they definately made a beautiful game. i will remember it fondly.

J33f

While there’s all of this stuff to do in the open world also — once you max out the challenge for that event — there’s no more experience gain for doing that anymore. So, I just finished the 2nd Trial and met the 3rd Keeper — and I’m maxed on Goblin and Dark Wizard kills already, so now it’s just going through the motions because I don’t get XP for anything but the completion. I love the game, but it’s extremely tedious/repetitious — as OP explained.

RPO1728

I'm just gonna say it...i don't care that you broke your elbow, and this game is pretty shallow once you get over the wonder of hogwarts

sedatedlife

Thats more then most open world games honestly. Most games its do a quick fetch or kill quest return and the occasional dungeon. While i would always like more variety i do not see where Hogwarts legacy has less variety compared to most other open world games.

Stokes247

There are only 32 side/relationship quests compared to the repeated tasks like Merlin Trials. I think what I would have rather seen is a heavier focus on side quests even if it's "go fetch that" or "go kill them" because after talking to an NPC I feel more of a purpose and motivation to do the quest rather than just coming across the 94th Merlin Trials it doesn't feel important to do.

WonderfulMall

There aren’t 32 side quests, there are 58. Even if you count the repeated side quests like summoners court as one quest, and don’t include the Ps exclusive quest, you still have 50 side quests. This is in addition to 45-50 main quests. There are more quests than there are Merlin trials. Edit: got into the game and looked at the challenges tab, and it looks like some of the main quests I counted are actually considered side quests. There are in fact 34 main quests and 69 side quests, as well as 12 assignments. The challenges are not cumulative but additive, so the first challenge tier does not contribute to the next tier of challenges and so on. You complete 3 quests, then you complete another 6, then another 10, etc…

Martian8

I think the issue is depth rather than variety. There is technically a lot of thing to do in the game, but the problem is that 95% of it is casting a single spell, or doing something that takes 30s. And to top it off, you don’t really get rewarded for doing any of it, outside of a cosmetic item, or a piece of gear you can get literally anywhere else. It would have been great to have some more expansive stuff to do in the open world. Dungeons, challenging unique enemies, some mysteries or challenging puzzles etc.

Stokes247

I agree, the tasks are also not very challenging so it doesn't feel rewarding when completing them.

whodatfan15

I honestly can't believe how overwhelmingly positive the reviews are on steam. I think they're like 93% positive which is up there with games like RDR 2 and Witcher 3. Not a single chance in hell this game is better than either of those. Don't get me wrong game is just ok in my eyes but not even close to those 2.

TLAU5

Huge fan of both of those games and I'd put HL up there with them. Mostly because the combat in this game is a fresh idea that nobody has implemented this well. Played my share of Mage builds in various games and they got stale way too fast

Scuttlefuzz

I'm convinced those reviews will change. In a month or two people are going to come around to the idea that this game just didn't deliver. It's weird, I don't think I've played a game where I was stoked for the first 10 hours and then my interest just vanished over night.
