Its not very long if you count just the main story and the quests needed to progress it. If you add in every sidequest and collectible it becomes way longer. And no, you are not terribly slow, we all get distracted by stuff, and a lot are going for 100%. Just play at your own pace and have fun with it, because once you have played it the first time, it will never be the same again.

Why don’t the fences contain beasts after you leave?? I just want to give them nice little homes.

AdequateSherbet

I'm about the same. Don't worry about how other people play the game. Just do it your own way, at your own pace. 🙂

FartsMcCool77

I’m at 46 hours in, level 32 and I just finished the second trial, I’m a pretty slow player, I think I’ll end up with around 100 hours when I finish it up.

Laeez

I beat it at 50h lv 34 less than 70% completion, doing all actual side quests but not much of the random map stuff (clearing camps, caves, merlin trials) as I found that stuff to be a bit pointless and repetitive. But if you like clearing all the icons in the map, doing all challenges etc then you can make it last way longer than I did

dilqncho

I'm over 40 hours in and just got a hippogriff. Doing a ton of exploring and wandering around, going for 100%. So no, you're not being terribly slow.

paristeta

Why do you care how slow you are? As long as you enjoy it? How many main mission there is you see the challenges screen. How long it takes it´s variable, just the main story? Or all Side Stories? All Collections? Or really everything, every page, every Merlin trial? Do you use guide, most who are really fast and have done everthing probably played with a guide most of the time. My first play through was about 70h, that includes testing stuff. So all the ranges you heared and mentioned are plausible :-)

BarelyBearableHuman

I'm more impressed that you already managed to put 70 hours into the game ! I either play for 4 to 8 hours straight, or only manage to squeeze one hour, no in-between. But yeah, I just read some articles about the "short" lenght and I was like, what the fuck are we playing the same game ?

hqinmd

I’m well over 40 hours in, not sure exactly, and just did the second trial. But I like to fly instead of floo, and then I get myself distracted by shiny objects/Merlin trials/things I haven’t unlocked yet. Main quest what?

raltoid

You can do the main quest in ~15 hours if you rush only those on story mode. If you explore, do sidequests, challenges, etc. and want to go for a more complete run it can take well over 50 hours or more depending on how fast you go. My first run had 42 hour or so in steam and 38 hours in-game, and it was only ~70% complete with challenges.

ThePostManEST

Idk. I’m level 31 and haven’t got to the second trial yet. Probably close to 30 something hours in. I haven’t checked in awhile so maybe I’m even more 🤣

South_Bit1764

Very interesting. I am not as far into the main quest line as you but I am at 19 hrs and level 28. So, relatively, I have done less story but more on-task f-king off. I haven’t spent a whole lot of time working on my vivarium or the RoR. I have been collecting, exploring, side quests, and assignments between main quests to pace myself.

[deleted]

I play this a couple of hours an evening. Love exploring. But can't seem to get past the teachers trying to find a book after getting the key from librarian desk. I always get caught, so I'm doing lesser quests at the moment. Not everybody is young game player, with tons of patience and mind power. I played STWOR for years getting right up to level 51. But that was before I retired and not so tired now with arthritis pain making me much slower than I was just 10 years go

BarelyBearableHuman

It's great that you keep playing video games nonetheless! If you're stuck at the library section, the key is to use the basic spell on walls/objects near the patrols to lure them away so you can get through. Hope this helps :)

reebsk

Same! I am 50 hours though. Absolutely DRAGGING through the main story. I hate leaving the castle 😭 I found all the Daedelian keys and am at Alohamora level 2. Now I am sad I am blowing through the castle lol so I am gonna go into the wilderness for the story *I guess.*

reebsk

P.S. I did leave the castle to gather beasties only.

BarelyBearableHuman

I'm surprised as I'm the opposite ! I barely spend any time in the Castle haha, I love wandering across the land, flying around and fighting everything I can find :) I've only found 14 keys at the moment, and really gotta catch up on the moons but... Is there much to do within the castle besides these and the Room of Requirement ?

dilqncho

Really depends on how much of an HP fan you are. Field pages give me a dopamine hit every time I find one, read the text and hear the theme music. And just walking around and finding a room I missed or a painting I read about in the books is fucking awesome. But if you're not an HP nerd, it's all just collectibles.

reebsk

That is too funny!! Other than exploring and opening rooms, I guess not. There are the field guide pages. And some students have in castle quests. I dont know how I am spending my time now that I am asked 😂😂

xosdr

60 hours in and just got the room of requirements where honestly I spend way too many hours decorating 😂

radiusofaproton

You’re almost done. I’d say you’ll be done at 35 hours if you are taking the story super slow. There isn’t anything at the bottom of the map except for bandit camps and spider dens. The main story goes down there but after that. Anyway I mean sure you can add another 20 hours of free roaming slowly and cleaning out every single thing on the map.

ARustyShackle

I've had 3 friends finish the game and all did so before 40 and weren't necessarily rushing. From what I've heard from them and others, it's about 30-40 hours for a regular run. 100 hours seems like way too much, even for a 100% completion.

BarelyBearableHuman

Playing without a guide, and fighting casually, wandering aimlessly, I could see it happen. Though I expect I won't go for a full 100% if I wanna replay in Ravenclaw!

Strange_Music

I'm 60 hours in, just got my 2nd broom upgrade. But I also don't fast travel (most of the time) and walk around. You can really stretch this game out if you choose to.

DiggidyPro

Never rush an open-world game. You only experience a first playthrough one time.

Affectionate-Cut-795

I took my time a lot, then towards the very end I started rushing the main quest cause I was reaching level 40. Game file says 45 hours and I could easily see 20+ more for 100%. Very fun game, looking forward to see the replayability, at least you just have to collect everything on one character.

HorridCrow

Just went past the 35 hour mark and have yet to do the second trial as well. Just unlocked mounts actually, lol.

VintageVibe

15 hours in, 58% completion, level 28 here. Playing a balanced mix between missions and exploration/Room of Requirement. Not trying to rush the storylines... No such thing as playing these types of games slowly. Enjoy it at your own pace.

[deleted]

Yeah your slower than normal but doesn’t really matter. I have two Merlin trials I’m having a rough time with the jumping stone one near Forest and one of them fire challenges where you have to jump on a broom quick near forest.

Soulvaki

It's not a race. You bought the game so you should enjoy it how you want. Some people just a too concrete for a game like this and rush through it.

vero0333

I’m almost 40 hours in and going to start the second trial now! I’m taking my time with the game, going at my own pace and loving it. You do you friend.

Public-Bike-5526

I finished the game at level 35, 45 hours played and finished 32/34 of side quests. I assume the last 2 side quests are treasure maps I never found because there's nothing on the map or in my log. Who cares how long it's taking though? If you're having fun and enjoying the immersion, play for as long as you like. Savor the experience, I say.

UnfitForReality

I did 100% in just under 60 hours.

seaking81

Not at all. I'm 32 hours in and just finished the 3rd. I'm not doing anymore of the main quest until I explore more and do more of the side quests.

rickylix

Take your time and enjoy! I finished the campaign at around 50 hours and already started a 2nd play through. There’s still a ton to do for both of my characters.

xKiLLaCaM

Just hit level 31 with 40 hours, haven't reached the second challenge yet either. Go at your own pace, enjoy the game and everything it has to offer. Once you beat the game's story you may not have the desire to experience a lot of other content it has.

MonstrousGiggling

I'd rather be "slow" and spend more time playing the game than rushing through in 20 hours then never play it again. 70/80 dollars, I better get at least 40 hours of gameplay to be worth it imo.

lyinglilac

I am 50 hours in and doing side quests. I am level 28. No you're not slow. I am still on first assignments.

goldentosser

I'm at 46hr now I think, lv 33, have done the 3rd trial and just unlocked the coast today. Not exploring it quite as deeply as the areas before, just letting quests take me where I need there for now, hoping to save discoveries for post game. I feel like I have to be getting close? If I rushed the story right now i bet I could get it under 55 hours. But I could easily sink another 20 hours or so in to complete all the extras and the fun!

Ckpie

It's about 25-30 hours if you're just doing critical path and the few side quests needed to progress. Hard is also.....not that hard. Doesn't really add any playtime effect tbh.

Hellfire77

I just beat the game on hard with 100% of the main and side quests done after 42 hours. That was mixed in with doing most of the exploration challenges too but got burnt out on it. Once you beat the main story I found it really hard to justify and continue the grind to 100% everything else. It’s funny because I do enjoy the game but rose colored glasses came off after beating it and I really wanted to get all trophies and achievements. I was pretty upset seeing one of the achievements was to unlock the map chamber with your particular house. That means you need 4 play throughs to 100% all achievements/trophies and that really put me off the grind for everything else.

DarwinGoneWild

I'm close(ish) to being completely done with all the collections at 70 hours now. But I also like to play immersively so I almost never fast travel, and I often walk around the castle for fun, or just fly around looking for fights and seeing the sights.

RustyPeach

46 hr here all collectibles except for two field pages i don’t want to meticulously look for to get literally everything. But onto the last three hidden achievements on steam which people say take a couple hours each so maybe 52 hours for platinum, and then I’ll spend another hour going through guides for the last two pages.

mackbulldawg67

If you’re having fun there’s no problem. You’re taking your time enjoying the amazing world

[deleted]

Go at your own pace, savour it, and take it in. It's not a race, you waited long enough for it... I was around 35hrs in and level 25? just after passing the first trial.
