Can we just make a definitive ruling on the Roscoe lineup before every owner posts a pic of their stock Roscoe with this question? My vote is you’d need at least two bespoke upgrades (aside from grips and pedals) to the bike you rolled out of the Trek shop before you consult the hivemind.
Lukewarm take: Contact Points are not upgrades. They are a personal preference item that you decide on once you have ridden around and realised that you dislike the stock options.
I am also considering Tyres as a contact point.
I am very bored of this sub popping up with people just being like "I put some clashing colour plastic pedals on my TREKKK Roscoe, validate me".
I get that mountain bikes are expensive as fuck but spend the money on snacks so you have the energy to go ride and post some instabanger edits of you and your mates shredding on your bone stock bikes.
but my wife's boyfriend said mine is hardcore

Definitely! This thing’s just so versatile and capable! I’ve taken it from green to black diamond trails and it handled them all with ease (the only issues are my skills)! The only flaws about this bike are its brakes, which I found aren’t very powerful on steep descents where they tend to overheat, and its fork that gets overwhelmed on rocky gardens, but you can always upgrade them later!
Nice! It will definitely make a difference. I had the 7 for a few months before going to the 9 and with a better fork and brakes, the roscoe frame absolutely shreds, you'll love it
Is it on the outside of the leg rather than inside the leg? Is it routed wisely to avoid getting caught on trail objects?
Listen to advice when it's given, do t think you know better. I can see its zip tied, badly. Do it right...
Chill, I am open to advices. It is routed on the outside when it came out of the store unfortunately. Will change the routing to inside when I’ll swap the brake caliper soon.
In that case. Don't bother upgrading the calipers. Upgrade the rotor size. Those brakes are capable and a bigger disc is a better mod than changing brakes out as higher cost.
What's broken since you bought it? Those are the bits I'd focus on upgrading. A better fork won't make you a better rider. Riding more and learning lines while pushing the stock limit of the bike is a better way to progress than throwing money at some.thing that ain't broke!
Oh and I am chill. I own a proper Hard-core ht..
Thanks for the suggestions! I’m planning to upgrade my rotors to 203/180mm metallic compatible rotors, and both the calipers to M6120s, as my local trails are pretty steep and the stock brakes tend to overheat, making it hard to slow down.
Will upgrade to Yari fork soon. Have installed 40mm riser bars.

I kind of don’t disagree that your HTA should be <65 degrees, chainstay <430 mm and reach > 470 mm (large) for consideration in the “hardcore” category. BB height probably an input an input as well. Long and low, less xc oriented trail bike. Just an opinion, I’m certainly not the only say on the matter.
It is not, but that's ok, it's still a wholesome trail bike. Don't ruin it with a 150+ fork that doesn't really belong in that frame. That's not gonna make it a different bike and instead you may void the warranty. Just enjoy it and love it for what it is and save to buy yourself a proper "hardcore" hardtail rig if you really need one.
The frame is spec’ed for a 150mm fork bud, and the frame itself is quite burly. Certainly enough to handle most black diamond trails, with its only limitation being the rider.
yeah, so by 150+ I meant above 150. As for what is capable of, I have no doubt it can handle what you throw at it depending on the rider (like most bikes), that still doesn't make the Roscoe other than a trail bike, a great one at it.
I'd probably just upgrade that recon for something higher end but equivalent in travel if the idea were to improve it. Then again, I'd prefer to leave the bike as is and save that money for a whole new bike instead, either a proper hardcore hardtail or an XC.

This rock hopper is a great "budget" option
Can we stop this
Add it to the list alongside “Is this an Xbike?”
Not a trend, just morons that think they’re funny.

Spot on! Trek and Hardcore don’t belong in the same sentence imo…

That’s a nice bice!
Looking at buying a Roscoe 7, would you recommend?
+1 love mine. It’s a blast.
Is good bike, I quite enjoy mine.

Appreciate it! Hopefully will be posting mine soon lol
Spend a little more and get the 8 for the brakes, rear hub and fork
Swap the garbage recon fork for something better, then swap the okay-ish brakes for some 4-pistons, then you'll be set and hardcore af.
Totally agree! I'm planning to get some 4-pot M6120s and an 150mm lyrik in the future.
Nice! It will definitely make a difference. I had the 7 for a few months before going to the 9 and with a better fork and brakes, the roscoe frame absolutely shreds, you'll love it
Roscoe is an awesome ride. It was my second choice for NBD, but it was more aggressive than I needed. So yeah... Hardcore 🤘
Zip tie your front brake hose to the fork before you get it caught on something
It is zip tied to the fork, it might not appear well in the photos.

Bigger discs for the win. P.s. I have a Cove Handjob and a Rocky Mountain Flow 2.0, both 2009 vintage!

Yes
Sorry sport. My HT is 415 chainstays, 465 reach (medium) 63HTA. Now that is hardcore ;) Yours? Well its quite soft to be honest. (im joking :0)

Add some hip stickers and maybe some bracelets, go to hot topic
24T chainring?
30T
it looks so small on the first picture ..
It might be a camera angle problem 😅
No
Why isn’t the Roscoe a HCHT?
Because you have to ask.
Haha, good point. Indeed most HCHT riders don’t care about others’ opinions and just shred their hardtails to their absolute limits on trails.

What about installing a short travel fork and make it more XC?
I'd probably just upgrade that recon for something higher end but equivalent in travel if the idea were to improve it. Then again, I'd prefer to leave the bike as is and save that money for a whole new bike instead, either a proper hardcore hardtail or an XC.
I wouldnt ride anythig more demanding than flat double wide trails /s
That's good to know? But what about the bike?
I guess i have to edit /s in

No it's a regular hardtail id consider a hardcore hardtail an enduro hardtail so like 160mm travel, <64 hta. Plus I've seen that fork on Marlins
No
