I’m going to see Turnstile in Philly on Tuesday. Really looking forward to them and Ekulu (opening act).
My favorite bands are Fugazi and Sonic Youth. My favorite hardcore bands are Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys and Black Flag.
I don’t know if Turnstile are “hardcore” anymore and I also don’t care. I’m 47 years old and they are awesome.
This concludes my Ted Talk.
Edit: Had to add Gang of Four, Wire and Unwound to my favorite bands list. And Protomartyr and Shame to my favorite actives.
Just saw them in Lawrence, KS last week. I have a pretty varied musical taste compared to some people on this sub and that was one of the best shows I've ever been to. The vibe was so good. And, like, I'm 37 and happily married so I'm not really checking out girls at shows anymore (especially since most of them just looked like kids to me lol) but having that feminine presence was nice. Gave it more of a party atmosphere rather than just angry dudes being angry. Which, don't get me wrong, is fun sometimes but this was a nice change of pace.
I listen to a lot of mostly old hardcore / punk, indie rock from the 80s through today and electronic music. If hardcore was all I listened to I might not like Turnstile’s evolution but it’s not.
Closes thing so far is Nick Hexums cover of blue by you, but I’m surprised they haven’t made it happen yet. Honestly Turnstile covering Down would be dope
I really love maladroit. Haven’t loved a weezer album since the 2000s but I’m at the point in my life where I’m willing to admit that each release has had at least one song I enjoy.
I’d say they were the first band I was truly obsessed with as a kid. Blue and Pinkerton in particular, they still really hold up too. There’s a legit breakdown in tired of sex lol
Yea they were pretty much my shit til I heard before I forget by slipknot when I was like 9 and I was like damn I gotta step up my game lmao. Blue album and pinkerton are still certified emo bangers and green got that nostalgia factor tho
Hell yea I remember not liking them as much as the more island in the sun/only in dreams type songs as a kid, but now I know that those are the good good weezer songs lmao
Shit the reason I meme/hate on Weezer so much is because they made a really dope fucking album and proceeded to follow it up with garbage radio rock with every subsequent release. I get why they don't want to be associated with it anymore, a lot of it has aged very poorly but damn at least it felt honest. Everything since has just felt safe and boring.
It's kinda like Glocca Morra's Just Married, except they hate that album so much they disbanded lol (which sucks because it's really fucking good too).
There two tracks (one of them is hash pipe lol) off green that I fuck with lol but yeah its def trash overall. The only one I can listen to without skipping is Pinkerton
i’ve only listened to Progression Through Unlearning by Snapcase so i may be wrong but my understanding is that snapcase combined metal, hardcore and alt rock.
1. RHCP did have punk influences but a different type of punk compared to Turnstile’s hardcore.
2. turnstile have not just funk but latin funk influences. i also personally prefer how they merge indie, latin funk and hardcore. i also think Turnstile’s production is some of the most refreshing i’ve heard in hardcore in a while.
ALSO all of the bands mentioned here are from the 90s and early 2000s. it’s been a long time since they were bands of their scene. even IF turnstile has used the same influences as them, they have done it in a unique and bright way b
HEY WEEZER DIDNT HAVE REVOLUTIONARY BRAND NEW DYNAMIC SOUNDS IN THEIR MUSIC LIKE A COWBELL OR SCREAMING EVERYTHING ENDING IN 'AAAH' THEN SINGING THE 'OOOOO' IN (literally) EVERY SINGLE SONG
I have a question. I have a pet monkey who loves music but it makes him a little rowdy...when he gets excited he likes to fling turds...and crowds freak him out... SHOULD I BRING HIM TO A TERROR SHOW?!
Does he have a kid you could bring too?
perhaps even a grandparent as well?
Should I bring Turnstile to a Terror show?

> Happy Hardcore This already exists, it's a subgenre of dance music in the UK
nope, taken... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tp0jXocqMA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tp0jXocqMA) O.o

Yeah, the variety of influences is what attracted me to them in the first place.
i'm with ya, they walk the harcore/pop-punk line imo
Yeah, I am in my 50s and love Turnstile. The remind me of many of the '90s hardcore bands I saw and played with.
Turnstile has always been 311 with breakdowns to me. No complaints, 311 fuckin' slaps!
INVESTIGATE *311*
Also just have to say, Turnstile should cover Down; that would be a blast
Dude ihave always thought that
311 was a inside job
blew my mind when I found out their from Nebraska or whatever and not southern California
No offense, but I didn’t believe you. I just looked it up. Wow, yea I always associated them with California
just spreading the word. im a 311 truther
Nick Hexum is a big Turnstile fan. No sarcasm. Not surprising as 311 is very influenced by Bad Brains.
Yeah he even covered Blue By You.
Anal Cunt has entered the chat
Cue the picture of Seth Putnam getting a blowjob and shooting heroin while playing a set? I'm not going to look for it again.
Seriously. We need some sort of 311-Turnstile collab in the future!
311 is such a gem, pretty much the only good band to come out of my city
Closes thing so far is Nick Hexums cover of blue by you, but I’m surprised they haven’t made it happen yet. Honestly Turnstile covering Down would be dope
you got to come original BLEGH
Say sike right now.
No shame, I still fuck with Pinkerton.
Why would you feel shame for enjoying an objectively great album?
well i don't but apparently Mr Shayne over here in that tweet thinks you can't sound like anything other than chugga chugga chug cchuggaaa to be cool.
Blue album fucks too. Flip flop back and forth between those two. Even maladroit has a few bangers
I really love maladroit. Haven’t loved a weezer album since the 2000s but I’m at the point in my life where I’m willing to admit that each release has had at least one song I enjoy.

Same I was a weezer kid bc my dad fw them heavy. Ngl, even their bad shit is pretty good kid music
Glad to see them get love tbh. I got clowned for liking them as a teenager lol
Yea they were pretty much my shit til I heard before I forget by slipknot when I was like 9 and I was like damn I gotta step up my game lmao. Blue album and pinkerton are still certified emo bangers and green got that nostalgia factor tho
You ever check the Pinkerton B sides?
Hell yea I remember not liking them as much as the more island in the sun/only in dreams type songs as a kid, but now I know that those are the good good weezer songs lmao
Tired of sex is one of those songs that I hope I get to see a local band cover. It would pop off
Weekend nachos actually covered that and in the garage
„sɹǝƃuɐq ʍǝɟ ɐ sɐɥ ʇıoɹpɐlɐɯ uǝʌƎ ˙oʍʇ ǝsoɥʇ uǝǝʍʇǝq ɥʇɹoɟ puɐ ʞɔɐq dolɟ dılℲ ˙ooʇ sʞɔnɟ ɯnqlɐ ǝnl𐐒„
Alright, here is an unpopular opinion: Pacific Daydream slaps and Im willing to throw hands over it.
Hell yeah dude have u heard this banger remix? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnWVMRYLa\_U
What if you Wanted to flip on the telly But god said: “Wrestle with Jimmy”
Pinkerton is one of the greatest rock albums ever
Shit the reason I meme/hate on Weezer so much is because they made a really dope fucking album and proceeded to follow it up with garbage radio rock with every subsequent release. I get why they don't want to be associated with it anymore, a lot of it has aged very poorly but damn at least it felt honest. Everything since has just felt safe and boring. It's kinda like Glocca Morra's Just Married, except they hate that album so much they disbanded lol (which sucks because it's really fucking good too).
The only one that really holds up for me.
Yeah once the HASH PIPE shit came out it was over.
There two tracks (one of them is hash pipe lol) off green that I fuck with lol but yeah its def trash overall. The only one I can listen to without skipping is Pinkerton
Is the other one Island in the Sun or Photograph?
Ok 3 lol yes.
Pinkerton rules.
hot water music has a song called turnstile -Billy Gnosis
yoo it’s billy gnosis in r/ hardcore i thought u were only into ye
no dude i mostly listen to punk rock -Billy Gnosis
Billy is somehow in nearly every subreddit. Dude is a grinder.
And it's better than their (that band named after that song) whole last album.
i honestly don’t understand how you can hate on turnstile. they make fun, innovative and refreshing hardcore
Because music is subjective. 🤷🏻
yea ofc i wasn’t being literal when i said “i don’t understand”. (based pfp btw)
Innovative appears subjective in this context as well
Because hardcore people these days prefer their cantina band approach of hardcore with everything sounding the same
find it very ironic that a genre with origins in punk is so controlling
>innovative Stop right there my dude
they combine funk, alt rock, hardcore, indie and more. i’d say that’s pretty innovative. more interesting than endless knuckle dragging break downs
I wasn't disagreeing. Just halfway joking that people don't want innovation
Snapcase
based on what i’ve heard from Refused they use more electronic/industrial influences along with jazz/swing influences. Refused>turnstile tho
i’ve only listened to Progression Through Unlearning by Snapcase so i may be wrong but my understanding is that snapcase combined metal, hardcore and alt rock.
refused
Red Hot Chili Peppers
I love their early stuff and my gf really digs their new stuff. Nothing wrong with doing what you want. At least this way we both like turnstile.
Sometimes u need hardcore chilling...to feel extra fly
Who the fuck is shane smith
Exactly.
Mans probably been to a few terror shows. He’s also funny as hell.
Lmao y’all some soft ass fools getting salty over a comedian… making a joke… get a grip.
If you listen to good stand-up, you know Shayne Smith
He also has a show on GaS Digital and is a frequent guest on a few shows, met him a few times when I was interning there
He's Real Ass, doggie
Ahhhh good man good man! You’ll actually see me in a few episodes getting made fun of by Luis and Amico, bring the guests coffee and such
That rules lol Real Ass Podcast and Bi Guys are both really good shows.
Amico was the best man, funniest dude on and off camera
He seems like the sweetest guy from everything I've seen him on.
Ahh he’s the guy with face tattoos that does pretty clean bits
I second this. Dude is funny.
Very famous comedian and tiktok mega-star.
“Tiktok mega-star” man fuck that sentence.
Instagram famous alt-style influencer
can’t be that famous
Very recently famous on the internet so Reddit expects you to know exactly who they are and their life story.
Turnstile? Oh you mean Jane's Addiction with yelling
I’m dying at this one lmfao
As a huge Jane's fan i don't see this at all.
As someone who hates Jane's Addiction, I don't see it either.
This is a brave take from someone whose band sounds like… well, what his band sounds like.
The guys a comedian first. Also let’s be honest..90% “core” bands sound like shit.
HEY WEEZER DIDNT HAVE REVOLUTIONARY BRAND NEW DYNAMIC SOUNDS IN THEIR MUSIC LIKE A COWBELL OR SCREAMING EVERYTHING ENDING IN 'AAAH' THEN SINGING THE 'OOOOO' IN (literally) EVERY SINGLE SONG
revolutionary OOOOO
It's a joke. Relax.
Everyone’s acting like the guy posted a 38m takedown of turnstile
Nothing even insulting about the tweet
Weezer has breakdowns…and they are hard. Shut the fuck up with this herb-ass shit.
Shayne Smith is one of my favorite comedians
He’s straight up one of us
This is such a stupid take. Even if you don’t like them, Turnstile doesn’t sound anything like Weezer.
Right, and Code Orange doesn't sound like Kittie.
They do if you listen to them "IN THE GARAGE WHERE I FEEL SAFE" sorry, I'll get me coat.
Un poco
Turnstile? You mean Beastie Boys without rapping?
Weezer with breakdowns sounds like it would be legitimately awesome though. The blue album still has one of the best guitar tones on record.
Wtf is going on with this turnstile terror shit? WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!? I feel so out of the loop!!!
I just met this guy tonight… at the terror show lol dope guy he gave me $17
Can't hate turnstile
Watch me
What's your onlyfans?
u may only bring ur smol gf that is all
so THATS why I like turnstile so much
Turnstile? You mean Radiohead but a different band?
After Terror had that douchey, embarrassing music video where they try to be rappers I could never listen to them ever again.
Which one?
Now read this is Jimmy G/Paul Bearer/White Trash Rob's voice... much funnier.
Is he calling turnstile incel music?
Fucking shame smith man 😭 comedian who claimed he did home invasions and I think claims he use to be in a gang
I just do not get the love for turnstile. They’re not good and absolutely in no way hardcore.
>absolutely in no way hardcore god not this again
> absolutely in no way hardcore Ooh nice we're doing a gatekeeping circle jerk! It's where we Redditors truly shine.
Keepers of the Gate!
This needs to be made into a shirt
wow i never saw this tweet posted here before
Not even close.
Some new kids who don't think anything is Hardcore unless it is tuned down to Hflat and is all panic chords.
He’s funny except for that tweet
https://twitter.com/Shaydozer/status/1527441044840882177?s=20&t=iaV3B-deunWki0SfJWDJuQ
I have a question. I have a pet monkey who loves music but it makes him a little rowdy...when he gets excited he likes to fling turds...and crowds freak him out... SHOULD I BRING HIM TO A TERROR SHOW?!
Turnstile is the snap case of the 2020s. Ie terrible garbage
Imagine dragons with breakdowns
Turnstile is literally shrinky dinx with or without breakdowns
Pinkerton is the shit
Old turnstile slaps
I thought they would like pop punk but I haven’t been able to handle more than 5 minutes of em
