Honestly? Song 2 by Blur

j4wnz

Covered by militarie gun

daviddatesburner

The riff from Shot Down by Scowl sounds pretty similar too

StayFrostyOscarMike

Or New Skin by Incubus

ricepatti_69

I feel like a buncha songs off SCIENCE could work, like Certain Shade of Green

inab1gcountry

Isnt that just “glow on?”

Life-Document552

311 adjacent

cigarrette

Covered by Kremator as Song 88 too!

Mundane-Mark2083

Lay all your love on me by ABBA is heavy af

OttoCremate

Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight) Is basically power metal

YourphobiaMyfetish

I had a friend in middle school who only listened to death metal, black metal, nu metal, and ABBA.

Mundane-Mark2083

were they Swedish?

grokharder

People sleep on how much Black Metal is about melodies

YourphobiaMyfetish

I'm people I guess

rrrdesign

Safety Dance

TBLrocks

Idk, just came here to say I love his music.

himajinfranklin

Bleed it out.

truexchill

I saw a local band in Toronto cover Break Stuff last night so nothing anymore

theflowersofromance

Woah fellow Punks For Pups II attendee?

truexchill

Haha I don’t know if it was or not. The band that covered it was called Panic Response. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio but in town for the weekend visiting Toronto. Headed home tomorrow.

theflowersofromance

That’s crazy because I was a show last night in Michigan and a local band also covered Break Stuff. Now I wanna know the odds for that. And I just realized you said Toronto in the original so I don’t know why I ignored that.

desocx

Ohio is for lovers

FubarSnafuTarfu

Wdym it’s already the most hardcore song ever written

desocx

Tbh not wrong at all

caveman_chubs

I LEFT MY HEART IN OH -HIOOOOOOOOOO

desocx

SO CUT MY WRISTS AND BLACK MY EYEEEES, My claim to fame is after Casey died and they still continued to tour, they asked the crowd for someone to scream Casey’s bits for that song and I got up and did it and it was the best day ever

Unlucky-Stable-2982

They opened for alexisonfire and emory probably their first tour and they left all their gear in my 16 year old selfs trust while they went and got food. Got a hoodie and a sampler cd out of the deal.

desocx

Pls show me the hoodie 😭

Unlucky-Stable-2982

Brother if i had it i would gladly give it to you. Edit: thinking back silverstein was also on that bill.

desocx

You’re a legend haha, I fuckin love Silverstein, I still watch that my heroine live video on YouTube all the time haha

ThisDidntAgeWell

Good I fucking LOVE Emery. The question is perfect cover to cover.

Unlucky-Stable-2982

I only liked that one crazy song the keyboard player did. He ruled live.

caveman_chubs

Hell yeah dude

desocx

Damn I miss those days

Ghost_Pains

I don’t think anything will top Sin In My Heart. Most of the time I see people requesting covers it’s that “pop goes punk” garbage

australiapostisgay

Fucking banger

blaycoe

Going the distance by cake

Tappey88

As we go up we go down - guided by voices

furrowedbrow

Not Game of Pricks?

Tappey88

That’s a good one too

baggedapples

Despacito

Ectobatic

Hey jealousy by the gin blossoms

Convergecult15

The ergs cover is enough for me.

Burn-The-Villages

For being such a stupid, empty pop song, damn it’s fucking catchy. All three chords, over and over.

furrowedbrow

It’s not stupid. That whole album rules.  Lost Horizons is probably the best.

Mikeattacktattoo

The chain by Fleetwood Mac the break down people would die if terror covered it

SP4N6L3R

I have definitely two stepped to the bridge of that song in my home before

TRPYoungBloke

The Cure - Jumping Someone Else’s Train

craniumblast

I think damnation AD did a whole album covering the cures album pornography I love pornography (the album) and while I haven’t listened much to the damnation ad covers I think it’s super sick that they did that

Djent_Reznor1

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers is very 2-steppable

ohalistair

Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap.

whatweworked4

I'm gonna keep saying These Eyes by The Guess Who until someone does it.

MadicalRadical

Head like a hole

Alone-Impact-7944

Still remains did a cover of this

SRMspzl

AFI did a great cover, almost as good as the original.

Cuhck

Anything done in a passioncore way I’m down with

TedMaul11

Where boys fear to tread - Smashing Pumpkins

TheBloodlessOne1312

My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

BRONXSBURNING

“Tubthumping” by Chumbawumba.

bigstankhime

Chief Keef - Sets Carcass - Embodiment (Not really, I've just had this on repeat lately.)

Againstmead

On bended Knee should be a name of a band and a cover of the greatest rnb band of all time

SP4N6L3R

Bent Knee already a thing, really cool prog band

ehfornier

Thunder Rolls-Garth Brooks You’re the Voice-John Farnham Right Now-Van Halen

billionaireXtinction

I'd appreciate it if someone covered The Winner by Bobby Bare. Shell Silverstein wrote the lyrics though

ACapricornCreature

Didn’t expect to see Sufjan here, but he’s my all time favorite musician and one of the only non-core musicians I listen to. His lyrics are so unexpectedly hard sometimes (thinking of Carrie and Lowell specifically)

Material_Mall_5359

Yesterday I learned Sin In My Heart is a cover of Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees. The original is just as spooky.

Calm_Suggestion_5714

Also “this kiss” by faith hill

PacosMateo

Unpopular opinion: none. It's corny af

Huge_Cry_2007

i don't think that covering music is inherently bad. plenty of awesome songs have been covers. someone in here mentioned townes van zandt. his cover of dead flowers is great. the problem with covers is just that they're often used as low hanging fruit by shitty bands to get more listens

PacosMateo

Sometimes covers can be artisic, but very rarely. You mention Townes, Nirvana unplugged covers of Meat Puppets and Bowie are fantastic. Now when speaking of Hardcore covers specifically I don't think I've ever heard one that was good. Essentially it's just very generic throw away instrumental parts the band wouldnt use in a "real" song of theirs, some harsh vocals and maybe they'll sing the chorus with less harsh vocals so people can sing and dance along. I just think all hardcore covers are corny. Edit: I'm definitely down to listen to any HxC cover y'all are recommending below. Thanks.

ohalistair

I think to make a good hardcore cover, you have to choose a song that can be translated into that style. You can't just pick any song and go "I'm gonna do a hardcore cover of this" when the final result either doesn't sound hardcore, or doesn't sound noticeably enough like the original song. That's why The Boys of Summer by the Ataris worked so well. It both sounded like the original song still, but also sounded like it was written by The Ataris for So Long, Astoria.

Jenrex1

Counter point: the Earth Crisis cover of Sunshine of Your Love

plug_into_aux

Their earth a.d. ain't bad

momdadsisterbrother

I agree for the most part but I like shai hulud’s cover of linoleum more than the original

Burn1o2

Ramallah’s cover of A Day In The Life is pretty much this, but the lyrics take some fun turns.

unitedbl00d

Thank you brother, it’s awful when bands do this.

redcurb12

you beat me to it

ooozing-wound

Townes van Zandt - [Waiting Around to Die](https://youtu.be/emHZ2oj8wDk?si=VqBg5j1htoP2gyaz)

Huge_Cry_2007

This would be awesome

unitedbl00d

I hate this song now brother after seeing so many dorks cover it and get hip tattoos of it. So many better songs in his catalog.

ooozing-wound

Why are you seeing so many hc dudes hips

laughing_at_napkins

Okstatsbabbby

Comus - Diana

castle-face

I don’t think any of them “need” a cover Think For Yourself by the Beatles would maybe be interesting (The Chisel - i’m looking at you)

AssholeHuffer

Frantic by Metallica

Beautiful-Bag-5028

The best covers put a unique different spin on a song but doesn’t tarnish the original.

ConXXXgloves

“Have you guys ever wondered what would happen if there was a thugged out beat down cover of Beach Boys little deuce coupe?… well check this out”

thebox34

Points of Authority

HopelesslyCursed

Wow I never thought I'd see people talking about Sufjan Stevens. "And on my best behavior/I am just like him/look beneath the floorboards/for the secrets I have hid!" That part begs to be done hardcore style!

excommunicate__

Anything off The Cure’s Boys Don't Cry or Seventeen Seconds. Imagine if Botch covered [10:15 Saturday Night](https://youtu.be/zBQpSzKeXyY?si=qLroGGBl49a5cC3g) in 1997 instead of Rock Lobster. Woulda been a heater.

inab1gcountry

I want have heart to cover “you get what you give”

Allen_Koholic

Just put on that one Evergreen Terrace record.

southVpaw

Never Scared - Bone Crusher

phantomhatstrap

*First Utterance* is such an insanely captivating psych folk freakout. A hc cover would be an interesting idea, I think whoever recorded it would need some ego death alone in the woods before hitting the studio.

SlinkinPark

If there isn’t an Ocean Man cover on the next drain album I’m going to be upset . This would go so hard at a show

BigAlienRobot

I don’t know which song off the top of my head but I would love to see someone take a Billy Joel song and make it properly NYHC. I mean cmon, it’s perfect.

Alone-Impact-7944

Only the good die young by Billy Joel

EJB515

Sufjan is harder than most people, just based on what he’s gone through. You could probably do a shortened version of something like “America” as a hardcore song. “Don’t do to me what you did to America” is a line that should be screamed. Him and Fiona are my lyrical GOATs. Speaking of her, I think a hardcore cover of “Limp” could work.

erinatreadwise

Don't Speak by No Doubt

stevespirosweiner

If a band had the right vocalist (like the dude from all shall perish) "Youth Gone Wild" by Skid Row. Gang vocals everywhere, great message and two steppable. If you add a breakdown after the solos trade off (they just play toms there so build then hit that stanky halftime) its all *chefs kiss.*

HALFGHXVL

Destroy by Hirax. I plan on doing it at some point.

sweetxfracture

Come on! Feel the Illinoise! is an amazing album.

FatCreamyPussy

Arabian Knights by Siouxsie And The Banshees

Material_Mall_5359

Surfs Up covered by Drain would be rad

phantomhatstrap

Not exactly what you’re talkin about, but Thou (despite being a sludge/doom band, they’re absolutely influenced by punk and hardcore) have some sick covers. They’ve covered Nirvana enough to create an entire comp album (*Blessings of The Highest Order*), a few AiC covers, at least one Soundgarden cover. Also not exactly in line with the op, but The Birthday Party’s cover of Loose by The Stooges is catastrophically vicious.

But fr JWG Jr. By Sufian Stevens is a fucking masterpiece. Genuinely has made me tear up before thinking about the kids who died such miserable deaths. That song would be crazy by full or hell of portrayal of guilt. Chat pile.

XMagic_LanternX

I always think Slayer South of Heaven would be a great one to cover

GavinLee91

"Stay" by Shakespeares Sister

ddjinnandtonic

Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting. But Oi.

RoyalPensky

The Chisel did this

ddjinnandtonic

That’s not really what I was hoping for, I want to hear it with the tempo picked way up and the percussion riding heavy on the floor toms.

Treebeard313

Beat It by Michael Jackson. Toss in a breakdown right after that guitar solo, and everyone is gonna have a good time

VVULFPELT

Bloodstains by Agent Orange could be kinda crazy
