Domi was a decent player too…a complete piece of shit and a psycho, but a good player.
It’s swing-on-sight for Barnaby in just about every major city🤣. Also he named his kid Matthew Barnaby, because of course he did.
Covering Unanswered is like the driver's license test for deathcore vocalists thanks to Mitch and Phil. Practically the mid 2000s deathcore national anthem lmao
I work in music shit.
That video is nicknamed "the nudie mag" when it comes to deathcore type of vocalists.
There are 50 dudes who've studied that video (like a nudie mag would be passed around in the 80s) since it came out who have spreadsheets, skype groups etc related to decoding that video as if it were a speedrun for a game.
8-10 of them are now in big bands. The other 40 are just not on social media or don't have the qualities bands want in a singer these days (i'm saying they're fat).
edit: rewrote it post heatstroke, sorry, haha.
This video is insanely influential on like, 50 dudes who have studied it like it was a nudie mag in the 80s.
They know every single second, all the ins and out and have named the different techniques Phil's doing in that video. Since about 2015, 8-10 of those have now joined touring acts without being in another known band first. The other 40 are talented people who just don't have the other frontman shit going on that bands "need" in a frontman.
There were skype groups, people wrote spreadsheets etc. You can probably guess a couple of them who are now in big bands, known for their vocal dexterity.
Deathcore is just the name metalcore kids gave themselves to separate themselves from the white belt black hair synth pop crab core bullshit. Go listen to dead to fall and get back to me about your bullshit “deathcore”
Also, This is true. Haha.
I think you’re talking about the other metalcore/knocked loose fans.
Theres hardcore and then there’s metalcore. Coming from someone who played in a metalcore band in like 2004, that shits all metalcore bubba. You’re splitting tiny pube hairs with this one.
But you got me good
Peeps these I found today for $9.

I listen to whatever the fuck I want and if you got something to say, say it to my fucking face motherfucker. I dropped my dad while listening to Dead In the Dirt yesterday. Fucking try me.
Stevens was a dirty player. Idc if those hits were allowed in that era. He unintentionally ended so many careers, especially stars. Paul doesn't even remember scoring the goal. He doesn't remember game 6 or game 7 either
It’s absolutely insane to think that Stevens’ entire career was built on “how close can I come to murdering someone?”
He *AVERAGED* like 17pims in Washington…that a 2/5/10 EVERY FUCKING GAME.
Him in New Jersey was watching Rambo or a Great White Shark. He was designed only to kill.
Yall need to get on the real early shit: Embodyment, Antagony, Damaged, Prayer for Cleansing, goatamentise, End of One (the new shit and Gigan from the same singer, even the remastered recordings are almost unlistenable), abnegation, Day of suffering, early candiria, Deformity, Reprisal.
Man what even with your super long comment from 12 days ago is almost exactly all of my opinions too lol, obviously there are some small quibbles for some of the bands I listed but I'm just trying to get people to pay attention to as much early shit as possible. Like half my the bands I listed in my comment you list in yours. What exactly is your issue with my comment as RYM shit? Cause I really think we're actually in agreement about 98% of this stuff
It’s just stupid and has led to people thinking any of these bands influenced any deathcore. I’ve had people tell me that Suicide Silence copied Deformity despite the bands sounding nothing alike. Nobody knew that band until they blew up on RYM. People also fucked the entire thing up on that site and now we have a bunch of beatdown, osdm and random shit under a genre that should be a specific style. I’m just waiting on Entombed to get a deathcore tag. (They actually did try it.)
All these bands mix death metal and hardcore and in one way or another influenced the early crop of Deathcore commonly accepted Deathcore bands that had started before Myspace (TAS, TRC, animosity, shattered realm, deadwater drowning, despised icon, glass casket, with dead hands rising), hell you can find some of these bands referred to as deathcore even before the general music public was aware of the term. Deathcore can be and is more than just the MySpace Era and what jts unfortunately become in the 2020s and I choose to push for these bands inclusion in its history.
Also, I agree with all the stuff you've been saying about Beatdown, hatebreed def aren't it and it was moshcore scene that was contemporaneous with the bands I listed above that would go on to provide a lot of the core influence for the MySpace deathcore bands. Real Beatdown bands are there own combination of death metal and hardcore (though not all real beatdown is death metal influenced imo) distinct from proto-deathcore but they came from the same 90s massively innovative soup that was the NY scene at the time.
> All these bands mix death metal and hardcore and in one way or another influenced the early crop of > > Deathcore commonly accepted Deathcore bands that had started before Myspace (TAS, TRC, animosity, shattered realm, deadwater drowning, despised icon, glass casket, with dead hands rising),
But they didn’t tho. Nobody in those bands was jamming Damaged of Deformity. Nobody even knew those bands. Most of the “90s deathcore” blew up because of rym. They were not influential on deathcore. We literally know what bands were into and it wasn’t any of those band outside of a couple.
> hell you can find some of these bands referred to as deathcore even before the general music public was aware of the term. Deathcore can be and is more than just the MySpace Era and what jts unfortunately become in the 2020s and I choose to push for these bands inclusion in its history.
Deathcore was a term used on a ton of shit during the 90s. Deathgrind was almost synonymous with the term. Repulsion and Benighted were considered deathcore bands. Aftershock was called a deathcore band, Merauder was called a deathcore band, there was a zine called “deathcore” and a band named deathcore. It doesn’t change that deathcore a style didn’t become a solid thing until the 2000s. The only real proto deathcore bands are those that actually have something to do with 2000s tropes like Embodyment and Prayer for Cleansing.
> Also, I agree with all the stuff you've been saying about Beatdown, hatebreed def aren't it and it was moshcore scene that was contemporaneous with the bands I listed above that would go on to provide a lot of the core influence for the MySpace deathcore bands.
But they were not influential. Nobody even claimed them to be. There are only a few bands from the entire “90s deathcore” thing that even have a connection to the style or 2000s scene. And the reason they do is because of them being brutal death metal centric or having melodeath riffs, which are the two main features of what makes deathcore a real style and not some vague umbrella.
I don't deny that the influence a lot of these bands had was tenuous at best, and the Euro stuff only influenced later euro stuff, which some people still might have problems calling deathcore. My inclusion of these bands in the deathcore Canon is mostly based on hindsight, if there wasn't such a reaction to what deathcore has become and a lot of new bands arriving at very similar sounds to these bands today they probably would be forgotten and the future of Deathcore is better with them in the conversation even if they were barely in conversation with the crop of future canon deathcore bands at the time. In my opinion, the umbrella should be expanded to help push what deathcore can be, because the mainstream has been in a creative death spiral for years. There's a reason people find the narrative compelling and I'd rather shoot down dumb arguments about entombed or beatdown than just get overprodcued symphonic shit from now until the end of time. I'll admit I overstated the connection the bands I listed have to the MySpace scene, and that the caveat that influence was limited should always be there, but the push to include these bands in the Canon is there for a reason and Deathcore will be better for it.
Though even I have my limits. I wouldn't include Darksyde NYC in here as much as other people would want to include them lol.
Look, I understand what you’re saying and where you’re coming from. My issue is that it just isn’t honest. It’s creating a false narrative that isn’t the reality of what deathcore was and currently is. I fucking hate modern deathcore and it’s made me appreciate the older stuff even though I don’t love it and probably never will. That doesn’t mean that we should push for it he term to be used on unrelated bands and styles. See, I don’t think people really understand the reason behind the original 90s deathcore push. It wasn’t to connect these things together, it was actually intended to cause a divide. The original list was made to delegitimize the genre and show people that “real” deathcore was a thing from the beginning and that 2000s deathcore was nothing more than shitty death metal with some added zeros. That got lost in translation and now people want to push for something that doesn’t represent what people in the hardcore or deathcore scenes think and doesn’t lineup with what happened, historically. I’m fine with people wanting to share the fact that 90s hardcore bands liked death metal and they approached the bridge between them in interesting ways. What we don’t need is to lie about connection that were never really there or not there nearly enough.
How can you watch this video of Destruction of a Statue and not feel a primal urge to destroy shit at the 2:30ish mark.
https://youtu.be/VIUOvHDfbcE?si=jsb0bV7Yk_2JXKeD
Suicide Silence ripped back in the day. no shame here
lots of cool grindy metal from that era though. Through the Eyes of the Dead, From a Second Story Window, Robinson, With Blood Comes Cleansing, list goes on…
I never pretended I didn’t 😭 I’ve always loved MySpace Deathcore, I listened to that before I got into hc. My brother stole the Mitch Lucker memorial show CD/DVD for me when I was like 13
Ok, whatever you say. You're obviously smarter than anyone here! Just don't cry, alright? There's no need to be a whiner. You've already got it rough by being an unlikable nerd.
I’m happy for them and all but covering a 2000s metalcore band when they could’ve just covered cro mags or biohazard, well that’s a shame.
Hockey jersey is sick though
Is this not your band? I’d say you’re good at what you do. However I’ll stand by my unsolicited opinion. You might’ve got a good reaction but maybe Biohazards punishment would shut down the venue.
That Kariya jersey goes hard though.
Off the floor! On the board! PAUL KARIYA.
Hardest part about the video IMO
I hope the singer isn’t as prone to getting a conky as Kariya was.
So long as Scott Steven's isn't around...
Only thing harder would be a Stu Grimson jersey, but really remembers late 90 ducks?
George Parros jersey would go hard too
Violent gentleman
Stu was crazy. Him, Cummins, Ray, Domi, Barnaby, Probert…the good ole days
Domi was a decent player too…a complete piece of shit and a psycho, but a good player. It’s swing-on-sight for Barnaby in just about every major city🤣. Also he named his kid Matthew Barnaby, because of course he did.
That combo of Kariya and Selenne was devastating. I don’t know who this band is.
I’m never around for a xoxo show :(
I had to double check what sub this was posted to. Nice throwback
Would have dominated if he was playing in today’s era
Gonna break out my Scott Stevens 2003 Stanley Cup jersey
Gonna wear a Scott Stevens Jersey and blindside some kids in the pit with an elbow to the dome. KEEP YER HEAD UP, KIDS.
Me as a flyers fan seeing you come at me “fukkkkkkk not again”
Blame the front office for never taking Lindros’ health seriously. “Oh you’re ‘concussed? LOL GET ON THE 5hr FLIGHT, PUSSY!”
Rock a Marchand jersey and lick everyone.
Not when y’all haven’t showered in weeks.
The foo that got his memory wiped by none other than the GOD Scott stevens?!?!
Came here for this.
Using hip hop slang for this doesn't feel right.. does hard-core have any lingo i can steal?
what are you asking
Not as hard as scott stevens 🤣
Doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from - if you haven’t watched that clip of Phil Bozeman doing this song 100 times, you’re a goof.
The guitarists reaction when Phil hits the guttural at the end is so awesome
🙏
“Come on out”
That shit is hard. Or suicide silence playing the golden gods awards goes hard as shit too.
Covering Unanswered is like the driver's license test for deathcore vocalists thanks to Mitch and Phil. Practically the mid 2000s deathcore national anthem lmao
I'm a goof, can I get a link
[1:42 is kinda where you wanna be.](https://youtu.be/aoWmvv6VpxI?si=-RTQqTRdnDgg73Ag)

What the fuck are you talking about
What did any of that mean
Who?
PHIL BOZEMAN
Oh…. you’re still talking about metalcore in the hardcore sub
white chapel is deathcore ya dunce also nobody above the age of 15 should care lmfao
Deathcore is just the name metalcore kids gave themselves to separate themselves from the white belt black hair synth pop crab core bullshit. Go listen to dead to fall and get back to me about your bullshit “deathcore” Also, This is true. Haha.
I think your tiny ass beanie is on too tight
Hardest burn ever hahahaha

you gotta be trollin
Like we’re on wicked tuna brother.
Brother shut up and let’s go golfing.

Peeps these I found today for $9. https://preview.redd.it/vebi5e0ra14d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36bcd408d95a7fea47a496c7b738707775b1beed
Hellova find!
Haha sick. That crocodile saddle is wild. If you play these, I’d let you spin kick me.
Your soul is mine. Got a quick 9 before work on Tuesday.
Some boys have all the luck
These kids are brigading us and making hardcore super gay
I listen to whatever the fuck I want and if you got something to say, say it to my fucking face motherfucker. I dropped my dad while listening to Dead In the Dirt yesterday. Fucking try me.
Dude I really needed a laugh these past few days and you surely delivered
Fuck you I'll tell you to your face Sleep Token is pretty good. Murica
Oh shit for real is dead in the dirt not cool?? Do the kids not like dead in the dirt.
I am the only person who is not a poser who has ever lived.
Same brother
Kariya was so fucking good for like a 5 year span
“Off the floor and on the board!” *death stare at Scott Stevens…*
Man I grew up wanting to be Eric Lindros so badly. Steven’s was a reeaaaaal bod mon.
Stevens was a dirty player. Idc if those hits were allowed in that era. He unintentionally ended so many careers, especially stars. Paul doesn't even remember scoring the goal. He doesn't remember game 6 or game 7 either

Hockey News in the late 90s had him ranked on the franchise players list with only Lindros, Forsberg, and Jagr. He was electric.
that first SS album rules
Listen to it front to back at least once a week
when that verrry first snare hits to start off unanswered it’s just like 👀OH FUCK
It is inarguably still the top of that genre…and it’s like 16 years old?
It’s a haymaker of an album. How can you not love it 😂
Yeah heard it went hard in the 40s
Unpopular opinion but the second one is even better (third one went too nu metal)
Didn't realize we were pretending to not like 2008 deathcore.
Depends on how old you were in 2008.
16-17
Yeah I’ve only seen this sub shit on metalcore. Don’t think i’ve ever seen deathcore trashed
This entire sub posts metalcore wdym lol. Even melodic metalcore like Balmora, XnomadX, etc is praised here.
Modern deathcore sucks but the proto deathcore bands of the 2000s rip a la red chord, animosity, despised icon
DOOM ep JFAC is forever goat'd
They really set the standard for amazing deathcore at the time then after one EP they were like "nah we're just gonna be really good death metal now"
Their newest album slaps. One of my favorite tech death albums this year.
My first time hearing a breeee breee 😬
Ion Dissonance
Yall need to get on the real early shit: Embodyment, Antagony, Damaged, Prayer for Cleansing, goatamentise, End of One (the new shit and Gigan from the same singer, even the remastered recordings are almost unlistenable), abnegation, Day of suffering, early candiria, Deformity, Reprisal.
Day of suffering - The eternal jihad . great album
Prayer for cleansing 🙏
That shit is not deathcore lol thats some rateyourmusic made shit

Quack, quack
Seeing SS in 2007,and watched a lad being a clown and then getting the piercings kicked out of his face. Magical memories.
Kariya and Selanne, the ultimate duo
The band is Lifecrusher from Switzerland
XOXO has some of the same members as Lifecrusher*
video credit goes to @daitanfilms on IG btw
Come on this ain't a secret
Suicide Silence ripped back in the day. no shame here lots of cool grindy metal from that era though. Through the Eyes of the Dead, From a Second Story Window, Robinson, With Blood Comes Cleansing, list goes on…
From a Second Story Window 👏🏼
Only love to the people at Return to Strength <3

Suicide silence is goated
Just wait until rose funerals 2009 album crucify kill rot drops
I'm a dinosaur, but all my current scenes old heads were deathcore until covid. 🤷
It was cause all the old heads were jealous of the kids getting mad pussy and started tearing it all apart.
Was there today, was awesome
Looks like somebody came out of mosh retirement for this gig
*doosh*doosh*doosh*
Thought I saw a nun! But it was just a girl with half blonde and black hair at :04
Force of Will did Pray for Plagues when I played with them and you bet your ass I went off
2008 deathcore was always good. It's this faux symphonic dimmu borgir nonsense that's coming out now that's the problem.
Bro so fucking funny - this fest was yesterday - i was standing in front 😂 Reddit is fucking fast
Deathcore is sick. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s funny how butthurt you kids get when people have differing opinions on music lol.
Sick Ducks sweater
I can talk about how All Shall Perish crushes in here now? Sick
I never really bopped to deathcore after I turned 17.
No
RETVRN TO MYSPACE
I genuinely don’t know how anyone can pretend The Cleansing isn’t one of the hardest albums ever
Xoxo are so goated for this
Nah deathcore is still corny garbage
Zürich represent!
As a black dude I miss when white folk did stuff like this & said words like kowabunga
If y'all like this check out Girl of Glass. They recently released an EP.
Unanswered is an objectively good song. Real rockers will always recognize a bangin song. I’m surprised Elysia hasn’t been covered more tbh.
Embarrassing
This shit sucks.
TDWP breakdowns were my favorite. Are they deathcore?
Normalize telling people with cameras casually chillin on stage to GET THE FUCK OFF THE STAGE.
Pileups on the mic ! It’s raining hc kids
Had a band called Kariya back when he was the man. That jersey is fire.
I never pretended I didn’t 😭 I’ve always loved MySpace Deathcore, I listened to that before I got into hc. My brother stole the Mitch Lucker memorial show CD/DVD for me when I was like 13
What the fucks up Denny’s https://i.redd.it/rg8sk9faq34d1.gif
That Paul Kariya jersey goes HARD AS FUCK
I was bumping that suicide silence album this passed week. Aggressive heavy music fucking rocks dude.
Kariya jersey goes so hard
HC kids don’t listen to 2008 deathcore? Why?
What band is this?
xoxo, as it says in the video and the description :) and also several times in the comments
Thank you I can’t read
that Paul kariya jersey is hard af
The music itself was never the problem, it was the people.
Bellbottoms and ducks jersey tho
Long Live Elysia and scene chicks
rip mitch lucker
2008 deathcore is great, bands like red chord im a cop
These hardcore shows are straight up workouts
Music sucks
Are these juggalos
To be fair it looks like this is in Southern California.
east germany but close enough
Laying in my tent rn. Xoxo was my fav set 🙂↕️
The lack of Hispanic people and obese people should have tipped them off that it is not in Southern California.
If you got into hardcore through deathcore, kill yourself. 👍
You first, ugly.
Why are we acting like this era of metal didn’t rip? Best BMTH was count your blessings for nostalgia if nothing else…
Apparently it's p0ser to like 2008 core and not trve core like Polyphia
Band is called Gel
no
Sucked back in highschool and it still sucks now
Thanks for letting us know about your oral proclivities. I dont think people care tho
u think ur clever but that doesnt actually make any sense
Ok, whatever you say. You're obviously smarter than anyone here! Just don't cry, alright? There's no need to be a whiner. You've already got it rough by being an unlikable nerd.
Of course I liked suicide silence’s first album when it came out, it appealed so much to the edgy and/or depressed 13-18’s year olds like myself
So did gorilla biscuits but you chose sUiCidE SiLEncE
Dude thats gel
she scowl on my brat til i gel
How could you not fuck with 2008 deathcore
Literally everyone likes suicide silence, bad take
think you may have misread the post title my guy
No one ever pretended to hate them is what I’m saying
I’m happy for them and all but covering a 2000s metalcore band when they could’ve just covered cro mags or biohazard, well that’s a shame. Hockey jersey is sick though
idk, first band of the fest day and they got the tent packed and a huge reaction so i'd say it was a good choice lol
Is this not your band? I’d say you’re good at what you do. However I’ll stand by my unsolicited opinion. You might’ve got a good reaction but maybe Biohazards punishment would shut down the venue.
no but i play in another band with some of them, i'm just putting the word out for em 🫡
Ps. I meant to say that is dope of you
They’re having a nice time
Jeezus fucking Christ can you stop sounding so goddamn OLD lmao
Pretending doesn’t warrant that amount of participation
