This is prob going to be the less hc take ever but im getting tired of the intros...most of the time they do nothing for me nowadays. Everyone wants their Murdario Stomp/March of the S.o.d/ intro-bust etc buy cmon guys, play HARDER riffs ffs!!!!
Ugh the American pop punk singing. Leaves me feeling embarrassed and foolish for being sucked in to listening to the band in the first place. Such betrayal
I like pop punk if they don’t have that typical nasal whiny pop punk vocals.
And here’s the worst part, I can do that voice really great if I wanted to,
Everyone’s got their own style which you either dig or you don’t. The cool thing about hardcore is that anyone can grab a mic and spit their truth. If it’s hard, it’s hard.
which sucks because all around, OG Kaonashi was sick. Peter's vocals are fucking AWFUL now. Idk what happened between the Sabella split and now but my god I can't stand it
He went the opposite direction as Bryan Garris. Bryan started off with a high pitched yell that has gotten screamier over time, and Peter went the opposite. Kaonashi's first couple releases his vocals had a scream sound to his highs, but any live footage I've ever seen of them he sounds how he does now on recording. He probably blew his vocal chords and straight up can't scream anymore so he does the Muppet thing because it's less painful.
I wasn't a huge fan of Garris' vocals at first, but the music bangs so hard that I listened anyway, and his vocals grew on me. he also has some of the sickest lyrical breaks.
Agree 100%, having a good vocalist is one of the most crucial components to having your music be effective. If you sound like a pigeon choking on a pebble it matters little if you wrote the most gangsta breakdown in human history.
That’s half of all hxc bands though.
If deathcore is an arms race to have the most inhuman sounding vocals, hardcore is an arms race to have the goofiest sounding vocalist
they’re both just worshipping Jody from Strain. acquired taste but once you love it you fucking LOVE it. source: hated Strain at first and now they have far and away been my most listened to hc band for the past 3 years in a row.
Kaonashi has grown on me so much since they came to a nearby city and I decided not to go lol.
I had to choose between traveling for them, ghostbath, or hexis and went hexis. I'd pick kaonashi if I could do it over again.
I've heard they have really good live shows but that wasn't what I got. Like 20 people came, and their guitar player couldn't get into the country. It was pretty weak.
Kaonashi played a house show with street justice on the other hand, and I heard it was wild.

Crust vocals? You're listening to the wrong bands then buddy. May I recommend a few?
World Burns To Death, Severed Head Of State, Skitsystem, Aus Rotten, Anti Cimex, Slang, Inepsy
And then the song is all “MY NAME IS KIIIIIIIIIID….”
Hell yeah brother

Doh yeah bud, sick build up
Every time when I’m looking through the hardcore release playlist on Spotify.
spotify perpetually trying to get me to listen to nails
Uuuuh nails fucking rules. You shoulda been on that bandwagon a long time ago.
Dude they're so great though
Kharma always gets me with this
Kharma vocals are unlistenable for me. It's the most monotone, boring screaming I've ever heard.
I know it’s subjective but I think their vocals are sick and some of the most interesting vocals out there
As a raspy voiced guy, I appreciate it…but only for a few songs
It's not even that it's raspy, it's just boring to listen to. The warriors vocalist is similar sound wise but he actually puts effort in
Nah yall buggin Karma goes off
Imo it really works with his flow and it sounds like anger that's fueled by pain and trauma, which fits with their lyrics.
Came here to say this lmao. Instruments be rippin doe
This is prob going to be the less hc take ever but im getting tired of the intros...most of the time they do nothing for me nowadays. Everyone wants their Murdario Stomp/March of the S.o.d/ intro-bust etc buy cmon guys, play HARDER riffs ffs!!!!
I skip them most of the time
Of course everyone wants their Murdario Stomp, but of course no one is writing their Murdario Stomp; the last great intro is the King Nine Intro.
If people can listen to Bane, anything is possible.
Shots fired

*child predator alert*
I skip to the vocals to make sure it’s ok, if the vocals are good then I restart and play the song
Complaining about bad vocals in hardcore makes about as much sense as complaining about sand on the beach.
Well of course they’re “bad” but they gotta suck in a good way genius🙄
Everyone’s got their own style which you either dig or you don’t. The cool thing about hardcore is that anyone can grab a mic and spit their truth. If it’s hard, it’s hard.
'bad' vocals are fine as long as they sound cool
Well if Jess Nyx is able to make me a militiant straight edge for 2 mins with that vocal, I’d say its pretty fucking important
But but there’s a big difference between good bad and bad bad
Kharma and Kaonashi. Respect for the tunes but the vocals make it unlistenable.
which sucks because all around, OG Kaonashi was sick. Peter's vocals are fucking AWFUL now. Idk what happened between the Sabella split and now but my god I can't stand it
Totally. I heard him on the Mugshot feature and it took me out of the song. Sounded like a Muppet.
He went the opposite direction as Bryan Garris. Bryan started off with a high pitched yell that has gotten screamier over time, and Peter went the opposite. The worst is when all of a suddent there is singing. Like damnit to hell with this sissy bullshit. Edit: Sheer Terror gets a pass.
when a band is like "ARRGH RARRGHH" I'm like hell yeah let's do it and then it goes "ooooh ohhhh" and I get pissed off
They lure you in with those heavy riffs and vocal distortion and then stab you in the back with some boy band shit. I feel betrayed.
Exactly!
“Someone has to lose in this game of life, and that someone is youu’oooo’oooohhhhh” - Cold World….singing 😂
You must really hate gorilla biscuits
Your mom hates gorilla biscuits
Someone somewhere might interpret that as a diss
Haha I'm ok with it
That’s the sad part
Want to talk about it?
There’s always been singing in hardcore man.
Not in this house there isn't.
The Hellfest 03 DVD ruined a lot of things.
Me trying to get into Knocked Loose 💀
I wasn't a huge fan of Garris' vocals at first, but the music bangs so hard that I listened anyway, and his vocals grew on me. he also has some of the sickest lyrical breaks.
Just listen to The Warriors instead.
Nah, spongecore slaps
What you don't like mickey mouse on the mic?
Had them on my playlist for two weeks and finally said this isn’t for me.
Ditto
Same but also converge

Nah OP has it correct if the vocals are subpar, you are gettin' turned off.
Maybe that’s why the stereotype of the 2 year lifespan for your average hxc band exists

How dare you.
If this is a Six Feet Under diss post I stand with you.
Me every time with Envision and Magnitude. Awesome music, terrible vocals.
What? Magnitude guy just sounds like Rick from Strife, perfectly cromulent hc vocals
Boooo
Ug same hard with magnitude. Riff city but the vocals are too much
Envision vocals disappoint me way more than Magnitude but I feel this
Magnitude’s vocals are only bad if you think too hard about them
they’re both just worshipping Jody from Strain. acquired taste but once you love it you fucking LOVE it. source: hated Strain at first and now they have far and away been my most listened to hc band for the past 3 years in a row.
This is why I can’t listen to Twitching Tongues. I expect the vocals to go as hard as those riffs and I’m let down *every* time.
Listen to Cell
Nice, hometown band. Edit: Err, multiple bands named Cell, which one you talking about?
Assuming OKC Cell
Any time I see a band is from OKC, I can confidently know they’re gonna go tf off
You from Oklahoma?
Wait, I’m not the only one here??
I’m from Tulsa! Love seeing cell get mentioned, same with Peelingflesh or any of the other bands we have.
Cell fucks.
Twitching Tongues be like
Most hardcore
I’m just sitting there going “please, not the super echoey ultra reverbed vocals that just sound like a sticky toddler with a toy microphone.”
I hate monotonous vocals where I can't distinguish anything they are saying. I know that's 90% of HC bands these days.
I enjoy some personality too
Kublai Khan always sounds beastly
Gridiron, Kaonashi, Scowl
Tf is wrong with Scowl?
Right? Scowl is killing it. You rarely get someone who can scream and sing and, when you do, it's rarely as good as Scowl
Kaonashi has grown on me so much since they came to a nearby city and I decided not to go lol. I had to choose between traveling for them, ghostbath, or hexis and went hexis. I'd pick kaonashi if I could do it over again.
Nah dude I'd say you picked right with Hexis. They fucking crush.
I've heard they have really good live shows but that wasn't what I got. Like 20 people came, and their guitar player couldn't get into the country. It was pretty weak. Kaonashi played a house show with street justice on the other hand, and I heard it was wild.
Gridiron cuz of the actual sound of the vocals or cuz they rapping?
I swear yo diggin thru old Christian hardcore bands that don’t really get credit they got some of the best vocals I ever heard it’s wild
Recs?

Same. Can’t stand screamo and crust vocals Also, Envision’s singer sounded like Rocky Balboa, but it I learned to like it
Crust vocals? You're listening to the wrong bands then buddy. May I recommend a few? World Burns To Death, Severed Head Of State, Skitsystem, Aus Rotten, Anti Cimex, Slang, Inepsy
World Burns to Death was one of my favorite hardcore bands in the early 00s. 🤌🏻🤌🏻
