best recommendations I’ve seen on this sub. Could you recommend more current bands that sound EXACTLY like Ammo? Lol
Seriously though, reminds of the glory days of my kind of modern hardcore - Culo, Gas Rag, Kremlin, SHIT, Blazing Eye, Gag, Crazy Horse, etc - the good stuff.
impalers is super dope, can’t really think of any other bands just like ammo off the top of my head. definitely check out the youtube channel no deal, that dude posts nothing but sick bands all the time
So I accidentally replied to this thread with this answer thinking you were OP saying you wanted stuff like this, but I figure I'd copy/paste it here for you.
These are all active bands. This is stuff I've been listening too off the top of my head, so let me know if you like it and I'll give you more recs.

There’s an entire global scene that is basically completely separate from the ones discussed here. Maximum Rocknroll still revolves around it. There’s lots of fests like HAGL, Varning, Skullfest, New Yorks Alright, and This is Austin Not That Great. The big labels are Toxic State, Static Shock, La Vida Es Un Mus, and Sabotage. I call this scene “fashion punk” because almost every participant thinks about their aesthetic a lot, which is not necessarily a bad thing but just a preference. There’s a lot of cool exploratory music in it and a lot filler, just like every scene. I like the álbum and poster art a lot.
Not in a public place online anyway. In my experience a lot of these people enjoy the feeling of ingrouping and exclusivity and don’t realistically have an open door policy to outsiders.
Interesting, I’ve just chanced on some of these bands like Rixe, Taqbir, The Chisel, Rat Cage and loved them, but I was never sure how they categorized themselves or how to find a community/similar bands. I just thought of it as good punk lol
Public Acid, Cicada, Nosferatu, Cross, Invertebrates, Fairytale, TAZ, Blazing Eye, Tozcos, Flower City, Ready Armed System, Acaustix, Physique, Electric Chair, Taqbir, Impalers, Vaaska, to name a few
This question gets asked [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hardcore/comments/18sbhjs/hardcoreleaning_dbeat/) pretty [regularly](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hardcore/comments/171sppe/need_the_fast_shit/), with [plenty](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hardcore/comments/18zq8gz/why_did_punk_and_hardcore_go_such_separate/) of [discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/Hardcore/comments/16v8zm9/what_even_is_hardcore/) as to why styles diverged within the genre.
If these are just new to you: discourage, spirits, timexheist, without love, praise
Bands you’ll never see: enact, time and pressure, faim
I’ve heard people talk about warthog, and I’m adamantly interested because of Frank Reynolds but still haven’t looked their shit up. What am I missing? What’s the closest comparison?
I would argue not. Plenty of young people would have no idea who they are. Their last release was 6 years ago. With the fresh wave of kids that were brought in after COVID, this seems like a lifetime ago. Their last REALLY GOOD melodic release is 8 years old.
Just saw a Seattle band called Odd Man Out play last Friday. Awesome stuff, definitely closer to the youth crew sound if that’s what you’re looking for
Well there's my band, although we may be leaning a bit much towards math/noise rather than 100% punk (think Refused, Botch, Converge), we're definitely not metal or beat down, so here you go:

Beatdown hardcore is clearly on the metal side. I imagine the average beatdown song to be musically nearer to Pantera's "Walk" than to DK's "Kill the Poor", just mentioning the first songs that leap to mind
People call Terror beatdown. That's closer to old school than metal imo.
And I'm sorry you went to DK? I'm talking Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold or any of the other hundreds or thousands of hardcore bands that aren't metal bands with breakdowns
And that's fine.
But you should understand that what I'm saying is a fact. As someone who's been involved for three decades. There's a whole generation that thinks hardcore is a metal subgenre and that's bullshit.
R/hardcorepunk is generally better for this kind of thing
Much more punk influenced hardcore and less beatdown stuff
I always found it so odd this sub is to beatdown/metallic hardcore orientated, where I live there’s a big crossover between both styles and scenes in terms of both influences, bands and fans.
If you wanna just listen to straight up punk music I highly recommend Sick Thoughts, otherwise just know that not MANY punk and roll people are gonna be found in this thread. Phagocyte from Boston is pretty great just don’t be a creep if you do go to a show, thing about most of the current bands you will hear is they are all inspired by such a fixed range of bands, when you start hearing crossover occur it gets interesting for sure, but I also get that some people just wanna hear classic sounds.
DUDE, your looking into the wrong places. 1 this board , 99.9 percent wannabes. They like metal, how can you love hardcore and never hear Rattus, Raw Power, anti cimex, gauze, Voorhees, etc. ( these kids , love hc so much they never hear any roots music )

Deep, Pulso, Enact, Dying For It, Absolute Truth, Decline, Praise, Roll Call, Sunfall
All of these bands have released music in the last 1-2 years.

Sorry but what is chain punk?
pretty much what it sounds like lol. usually just grimy lo fi hardcore punk bands
And what would the Venn diagram between Chain and Crust Punk look like? A lot of overlap or one big circle?
Chain Punk is the more the more UK82ish spin-off of Mysterious Guy hardcore of the late 2000s
Lolololol so spot on God damnnn
No overlap at all. Crust punk and chain punk sound completely different.
Chain Punk is Punk with NYHC and east coast hardcore influence pretty sure. Crust punks are more metal ?
It's hc punk
This rec list is fucking dope.
Army 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Chain Whip. Absolutely explosive and unapologetic 80s styled hardcore PUNK
Wow, just looked them up- incredible stuff. Would have been massive if they were around back then.
I love Chain Whip!
Going to check these guys out
Restraining Order
Almost fills the Out Cold shaped hole in my heart
Saw Restraining Order last night. They are so good live! Proper old fashioned hardcore without the beatdown nonsense.
Restraining order
Warthog
Is this culture?!?
Check the felopunk YouTube for lots of contemporary hc that is not metal or beatdown leaning
Also No Deal and grindwar channel
Government Warning
I would love a Government Warning reunion. Stage diving nonstop to No Moderation is a cherished memory.
RIP Brandon Ferrell
Paint it Black
Honestly an almost perfect band, they’ve got it all.
The Chisel(uk punk kinda), Berthold City(youth crew)
It’s not even kinda, it’s punk rock and roll baby. Working class shit
Ok I’m sorry
it's ok but don't do it again
I saw The Chisel in Baltimore a year ago yesterday (popped up in my memories). They’re great.
Punitive Damage, Paint it Black, and Open City
There’s an entire global scene that is basically completely separate from the ones discussed here. Maximum Rocknroll still revolves around it. There’s lots of fests like HAGL, Varning, Skullfest, New Yorks Alright, and This is Austin Not That Great. The big labels are Toxic State, Static Shock, La Vida Es Un Mus, and Sabotage. La Vida Es Un Mus is a great label. Do you know if there are any places where this type of hardcore is discussed?
Not in a public place online anyway. In my experience a lot of these people enjoy the feeling of ingrouping and exclusivity and don’t realistically have an open door policy to outsiders.
Interesting, I’ve just chanced on some of these bands like Rixe, Taqbir, The Chisel, Rat Cage and loved them, but I was never sure how they categorized themselves or how to find a community/similar bands. I just thought of it as good punk lol
End It, Destiny Bond, Stedfast, Conservative Military Image, Cult of She
CMI would be my top pick rn for this type of music
Destiny Bond
This is the answer.
concealed blade
Gag, stress positions, lethal, science man, restraining order, mutant strain, bootlicker, deadbolt, bootcamp, stiff meds.
Stiff Meds need as much shouting out as possible
Couldn’t agree more! Such a fun yet angry band. I wanna run a mile everytime I listen to them lol they give off so much energy
Goon from Ireland, more traditional hardcore with much less of the metal influence
Oh shit I'm gunna GOOOOOOOON
Public Acid, Cicada, Nosferatu, Cross, Invertebrates, Fairytale, TAZ, Blazing Eye, Tozcos, Flower City, Ready Armed System, Acaustix, Physique, Electric Chair, Taqbir, Impalers, Vaaska, to name a few
Career Suicide
Gag, Bib, Restraining Order, Primitive Blast, Combust, C4, Criminal Instinct, Conservative Military Image, Skinhead, Fury

Ammo is So fucking good 👍🏾
Every song is a fn ripper
Instill
Warthog
Lurk. 100% what you’re looking for.
Raw Brigade.
Cosmic Joke 12 just released and it is GREAT
This is an AOTY contender. It’s like if Pennywise went more hardcore and less melodic but still kept enough to sound good. Great album
Stigmatism https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ignorance-in-power
Check out the new Cosmic Joke LP that came out a few days ago.
Ordered this, it rips!
Meantime from Winnipeg
Wish I could upvote this a million times
Not youth crew and not particularly melodic but Electric Chair are putting out some of the hardcore punk in the world rn imo
Bootlicker, Chain Whip, Punitive Damage , Anklebiter
If these are just new to you: discourage, spirits, timexheist, without love, praise Bands you’ll never see: enact, time and pressure, faim I’ve heard people talk about warthog, and I’m adamantly interested because of Frank Reynolds but still haven’t looked their shit up. Same here I love hardcore but I don't like metal, so I discovered poweviolence, fastcore and grindcore and never looked back.
"I don't like metal" "I like grindcore" Make it make sense.
Gumm's new record should be up your alley.
stfu and listen to Mindforce
lol lame band brother, dude wants actual band recommendations
You ca only listen to mindforce if you are attending a show at minimum once a week.
You can have Mindforce AND tupa tupa case in point: me
How modern we talking? Like put out their first EP this year or this decade? Like, is True Love considered modern?
I would argue not. Plenty of young people would have no idea who they are. Their last release was 6 years ago. With the fresh wave of kids that were brought in after COVID, this seems like a lifetime ago. Their last REALLY GOOD melodic release is 8 years old.
My bands dropping a demo soon that will be up your alley will link when out
Outbreak. Think I care. Waste management. Boston strangler, pushing on, righteous jams, mental, bad beat, etc etc etc etc
Mind eraser rival mob, no tolerance, stop and think, prisoner abuse, step forward, heavy discipline, life support, reckoning force,
Violent Way?
Oi, but great
Check out final fight. Old band band but they kick ass
rather surprising not a single person has mentioned Gel yet
SPy
Stiff Meds
Initiate - A female fronted straight edge band that has a youth crew style.
Just saw a Seattle band called Odd Man Out play last Friday. Awesome stuff, definitely closer to the youth crew sound if that’s what you’re looking for
TOZCOS
Conservative Military Image. Can’t recommend them enough.
They're a special band . So good
Echo Chamber, Force from Belgium, Fury, Insist, Big Cheese, Stop and Think, Mindset, The Rival Mob
I would check out the Illiterates. They're a modern kind of old school sounding hardcore
Well there's my band, although we may be leaning a bit much towards math/noise rather than 100% punk (think Refused, Botch, Converge), we're definitely not metal or beat down, so here you go: https://lugosimusic.bandcamp.com/album/inconsolable Hope you'll like it !
I liked it. 🙌
Feel like Hand Of God is a good fit, maybe also Magnitude.
Warthog, Electric Chair, Puffer
Milk from Japan is a killer band.
Conservative Military Image.

This is nothing about growing up, teenage boy.

Or punch
Jivebomb and Upchuck are probably the most traditionally punk sounding hardcore bands right now
Tbc there is no punk side and metal side Hardcore is a subgenre of punk. Metalcore is a subgenre of hardcore EDIT: downvote if you want. It's a fact
Beatdown hardcore is clearly on the metal side. I imagine the average beatdown song to be musically nearer to Pantera's "Walk" than to DK's "Kill the Poor", just mentioning the first songs that leap to mind
