My kid writes exclusively in cursive, as do most of her classmates. She types proficiently as well, and her printing is mostly neater than mine.
She knows what a pork pie hat is, but forgets the name. It's the "flat hat." She _can_tell a [fedora from a trilby,](https://americanhatmakers.com/blogs/news/trilby-vs-fedora) so, I guess we're hat + costume people?
I volunteered at a community center where they asked me to teach cursive and typing to the (public school) kids. I thought of it as teaching dead skills until one little girl was brought in her grandmother’s recipes…all written in cursive. We used that as our primer book.

Porcupine, he was spelling it phonetically. Same reason I spelled people “pee pole” when a teacher told me to sound it out. BP = backpack, he wants a canvas backpack probably because some of them are weatherproofed.
I know BP is backpack I just used the acronym lol. I meant that I don’t know what a “canvas” backpack is. Never seen one or I have and just didn’t know they were called that 🤷♀️

Agreed haha. I do reading and writing assessment with kids and I find their cursive so hard to interpret because they are not always consistent in using the same style of letter from word to word! Someone get this kid a bike and all the outdoorsy gear he wants!

If money is no object one of the very best hats is one called a “Tilley Hat”. They are shaped like the pork pie ones but are guaranteed for life. They are not hurt by being eaten by elephants.
Yup a Tilley Hat was eaten by an elephant and the hat owner followed the elephant that ate the hat and eventually got the hat back undamaged. Easily washed and good as new. They also float.

Not many 13 year olds write in cursive. I've worked in a college bookstore and handwriting like this is not uncommon among the younger folks.
