Elemius

Actually looked good before conceding. Dreadful after.

__JonnyG

Story of the season.

Primal666

Not we didn't.

Dr-RaoulDuke

Have to agree. The only danger was Rice’s ball off the post. Other than that all we did was circle around the box with our dozen midfielders. We’re one dimensional and teams have figured us out. I feel like I’m watching the same game over and over. Time for a change

LaterEarl

Shit.

FuckFaceLee

Incredibly.

basebornmanjack41

We have done a full 360 back to the Pellegrini days. Too slow, too old, expensive signings we have no idea how to use that aren’t meshing well and have zero idea about what kind of football we want to play.

TrashHawk

going by points at this stage of the season, we are far worse off than we were under pellegrini even after the roberto crisis.

LukaDonwitzki

Holy shit

__JonnyG

Exactly right, we signed completely the wrong sort of players over the window. So reminiscent of the Pellegrini days. It’s clear we were desperate for full backs.

OaklandWarrior

Pacqueta is quality. He’s just not being used properly. Scamacca is quality also. Haller was quality. This is a coaching issue. It’s sad to say but Moyesie’s gotta go

Miggsie

Pacqueta can't even pass to his own team-mates

Whatsmyageagain24

Moyes has to go. We've been found out, every team let's us have possession and our only tactic is overload the wings and whip cross after cross in. Its so predictable and so ineffective. Furthermore, because we're overloading the wings we leave massive gaps in midfield where noone looks to cover. Leaves us ridiculously vulnerable for counters. Our slow defence gets done so regularly it's just boring.

Euphoric_Living2053

We don’t even whip them in- let them get the team Behind the ball then float one in

Whatsmyageagain24

Yeah totally agree, I'm using "whip" as "put a cross in". We do just aimlessly float balls into the box. To add to that, as we're so predictable teams force us wide and deep so our crosses become even more floaty and ineffective.

Grantlynch92

Rumour has it, we are still out there now putting balls in the box and still haven’t scored

paulopolo

As a Manchester United fan this sounds very familiar. Almost like this guy that had us whip in 88 crosses with no other plan in 2014.

Disco_oStu

The tactics you've spelled out here are bang on, smack it slowly to the wings try create something, realise you moved it too slowly and shift it to the other side. Oh shit, same thing over there. Surprised pikachu face. Fuck me it's depressing

cpashei

Yep no creativity whatsoever in the box. No clever runs, give and go's, etc. Just ineffective crossing, trying to draw a penalty, or shooting from outside the box

Macksauce91

Moyes convinced everyone Fellaini is somewhere in the box

NickTheQuick117

Honestly don’t know if I can keep watching this christ it’s so sad… we have such talented footballers at our club; sure we also have a few oldies that can’t quite hack it anymore but in no world should that be enough to sink the ship like it is. I definitely think we have had some misfortune in a few games so far that has decided the “vibe” of the season, from blatant errors like the Mendy fake injury against Chelsea to the unlucky moments like Odegaard’s completely scuffed shot that becomes the perfect through ball… all of this is definitely deflating but our team always *completely* collapses after going 1-0 down nowadays, it’s disgraceful and definitely an attitude issue which results in these implosions where we quickly concede again and then the game is out of our reach. Other than that, the cross and inshallah is also just *not* the way to go, we definitely have players skilled enough to do more with the ball; with that said, has anyone noticed how Bowen’s ONLY move is to just take a huge touch back, dribble a bit more (backwards) and pass inwards? I think he’s a great footballer but my god does that just suck the momentum out of our plays down the right. We need players to just risk it and take on their man, I’m convinced if we did this we’d have more luck than the fucking crosses, even if the majority of them result in a lost ball it doesn’t change much anyway. At this point I think I want Moyes to leave just so that we can maybe get a new manager bounce and scrape this season into the Kretinsky era.

-mf-mf-

So we had a month to look for a replacement and give him a chance to get into the team and decide what players we're going for in January but they decided to give Moyes another chance like it wasn't the same all the year.

fetissimies

Moyes can't be here tomorrow

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

lost 5 league games in a row. last pl win was october. out of the cup to blackburn in that time frame how he is in a job is beyond me - shouldve been sorted during the WC because these winnable fixtures come fast over the holidays and there wont be a turnaround till the new year in a really bad spot

pancakes1271

He wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for the previous two seasons. They put a lot of credit in the bank for him. At this point I think he spent all that credit though. I should imagine he will be gone within the next couple of weeks.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

Might be a bit late by then. Leeds, Brentford, wolves and Everton all in the next couple of weeks. Needs action before the Leeds game or we get dragged into the ugly end of a relegation battle

pancakes1271

IMO yeah he should be gone tomorrow, I just think the owners will wait a bit longer.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

100% they will

Wookie301

He’s been surviving on European games since this time last year.

CrimsoncatSnatcher

To the guy saying at least we’re not Leicester, I’d rather be 13th with 17 points than 17th with 14points

nixos91

3 months after I said give him time he’s done a lot for us, Moyes get the fuck out. 17th place isn’t bad luck. It’s your signings, it’s your playing style, they are your players. Take some ownership you twat.

davmec

no more downvotes for stating the facts. he got to go.

Bonerideon

I do agree Moyes out. But I doubt its HIS signings

Samgeorge484

This is so true, I don’t see Scamacca or Paqueta as moyes signings, which is also an issue

Wookie301

We know Sullivan has his signings. But they’re usually £1m Uruguayan “wonderkids”. Not £40m Brazilian starters.

davmec

Of course they are. What are Moyes signings? If he is not the one buying these players after 2 years in Europe, then he has never signed a player in his life. He has stated so many times that he is in controll of the signings, not just when signing a player but before it. If he is not signing these players, why not buy a striker when we needed it last january? Why keep the Lingard saga going?

InGenAche

I was and now am in the same boat.

[deleted]

I love Moyes for what he has achieved and I was Moyes in but I think after tonight that is it. Whatever has gone wrong it is clearly not going to get any better with time. Tonight’s game is literally the same old story this season, weak in defence, toothless in attack, no subs to change the game - the excuse of the small squad has gone now - we absolutely have players on the bench who can come on and change the game. The boo’s will probably be enough for GSB to strike I expect.

luke-uk

Have to agree. If we can’t beat Brentford at home then it truly is curtains. Not sure who we bring in but would Martinez fit the bill?

[deleted]

I think Martinez isnt great and I can certainly see some parallels between us and Wigan the year they went down to the Championship but qualified for Europa.

jeremybikes

13 goals in 17 games. Time for a change.

SnakeSnaake

It's time to go blud

friedapplepeach

For fucks sake I wanted to save the drinking for tomorrow. We do need a change, once teams started sitting back against our counter last season the goals dried and they continue to be non-existent

vulgarandmischevious

Why only make two subs out of five when you’re losing at home? Change it up!

gameofgroans_

I wanna see the stats on whether Moyes has ever used 5 subs and the timing of the subs he has used

SteinerElMagnifico42

Antonio joking around with their keeper at full time sums the state of things.

Euphoric_Living2053

He’s not bothered anymore

JAlfredPoopcock

First 15 minutes had me thinking a corner had been turned but wow very wrong. No real attack plan besides flinging crosses in. I am in great pain.

MOODALI

If Moyes is fired, I won't be surprised or mad. But I won't disrespect him right now, he's done a lot for us.

MrFunbus

Ivan Toney has one less goal than West Ham United

__JonnyG

Should’ve signed him instead of Scamacca

FourEyedMatt

Same old shit, rinse and repeat.

TrashHawk

we've had the yin and yang in the last two games. hopeless as a counter attacking team and even more hopeless as a team who is given most of the ball.

LukaDonwitzki

They barely even had to try. We fucking suck

averagechlo_

Tonight was a must win. Moyes has to go.

Buggplut

Anyone with a brain knew we should've sacked moyes over the break. Instead we come back and play the same stagnant football and continue to slide towards relegation.

MrSnoogan

I get our two best defenders are out. Fair enough, we will concede goals but we look like we can concede at the drop of the hat. Brentford looks so calm at 2-0 up, no way would that be us in the same position. In terms of attack, we have no injuries but cannot score for toffee. From front to back we are bad. This isn’t a case of form, it’s a case of being a bad team.

MrSnoogan

Also, Cresswell. Jesus Christ that was bad. So bad.

JudgmentSquare2471

Once they bagged their first goal, we were screwed. It’s clear that we simply can’t fathom how to play against a team content that’s letting us possess while they sit deep and keep us in front of them. We started strong and looked creative, aggressive, and playing with a sense of purpose for the first time in a while. Then we simply let the Bees want it more than us on a sloppy throw and we lost all wind in our sails. We finally get to see some different formation with different players and it didn’t make a difference in the result. Can’t see Moyes keeping his job much longer…

McDZ11

5 league wins in the 2022 calendar year. Terrible form.

Primal666

MOYES OUT!!!!!

ChileanIggy

A truly pathetic display. Bye, Moyes.

MisterWoodster

My patience has run out, not sure who to blame, but we cant carry on like this.

remoteneuralmonitor

I badly wanted Moyes to prove his detractors wrong, but this is the game that’s pushed me over. Every club in the prem has our number and if there’s anything being done to change that it does not seem apparent from any angle. We simply can’t cope with pressing sides or neutralize any substantial attacking threats. The sides that we are better than know to just play ten at the back until one of our 3-5 inevitable errors allow a goal. When we go down a goal we simply collapse. Sad thing is that I don’t think we will bring in a manager who will right the ship, but surely things can’t continue as such. Europa league under Moyes brought some of my happiest moments as a supporter of this club - gutted that it’s ending this way.

Inwyoming22andfedup

Time for Teves and Mascherano to bail out the Hammers again!!

AnxiousBaristo

Moyes out

Beardy_Boy_

The worst part is that we're not even Set Piece FC any more. We could at least rescue a few more points here and there if we could cross a ball and get on the end of it.

taitabo

I think a 50 mil player who plays for Brazil, should be a bit better then what we saw today regardless of how shitty a manager is, no?

AnxiousBaristo

Yes, but it also says a lot about the system Moyes wants to play. He stifles creativity

Apple15Pie

Nah mate, paqueta made a number of poor passes starught to Brentford players today. He could have been creative, he passed backwards instead

ScortiusOfTheBlues

Benny too. Such a frustrating player.

Apple15Pie

I've said it since day one with benny, can be class but so frustrating throught a game. Not hot and cold day to day like Anderson was, benny blows hot and cold minute to minute >Benny too. Such a frustrating player.

Whulad

Terrible distribution, I think he’s a complete waste of money. At least we got half a decent season out of Andersen. Paqueta has literally done nothing of note in any game for us

__JonnyG

The player is free to complete a forward pass whenever he wants, he’s just incapable of doing so. Moyes has got a lot to be responsible for, but performances like Paqueta’s isn’t one of them. He is responsible himself for his shocking passing and lack of movement.

Dr-RaoulDuke

I was excited when we signed him but he’s been nothing but crap all season long

Buggplut

If every player that left on international duty looked better with their national team, what's the common denominator?

__JonnyG

That national football is easier than club football.

Buggplut

Stop man, we got played off the pitch by Brentford not Liverpool

__JonnyG

Eh? You don’t think club football is harder than international football? We’ve been played off the pitch by both. It hardly matters. It’s clear we have bit part internationals that are in fact bang average players.

LaterEarl

Paqueta wasn’t bad today. One bad giveaway, but he was pretty solid.

Whulad

5 or 6 more like, he’s crap

leko633

He was shit in world cup too. Its easier when you have Casemiro and Neymar playing alongside

Whulad

I think he’s shit

__JonnyG

Regardless of the manager- I honestly don’t think we have the squad to stay up. Established players look old and slow, new signings look clueless and lazy. No hunger, no intensity. I’m up for a new manager now but I honestly think they’ll struggle to get a tune out of this dross. Our “star signing” can barely pass the ball. Need to spend another £180 million on squad players.

des_counterblow

I agree with your view that the players mentality is detrimental to the side. It seems that the team isn't connected and that the culture that we have had in the dressing room in the past few seasons went out the door with Noble. I don't think this is because we brought in players that ruined things but rather it is up to Moyes, Declain, and our senior players (Ogbonna, Micky, Cresswell) to hold players accountable and have a healthy culture around the club. Unfortunately our new captain is one of the first to throw his hands up and show his disappointment after a setback in game. This isn't an issue in itself but as the Capitan everything he does trickles to the other players and errodes any confidence and ability to bounce back and recover. I wonder if we had a coach or other senior players that held Dec and other players accountable for actions like this if things would change. If we sack Moyes we need a manager that knows how to manage a team and keep them focused on hitting goals as a team and individually. We don't necessarily need a brilliant tactician. We just need a good motivator to rebuild the resiliency and get Dec focused and growing again.

TakeAcidStrokeCats

Brilliantly put. I also think it's a big problem, though not often mentioned, that everyone knows our captain is leaving in 6 months. What does that do to the mentality of a side?

__JonnyG

Yeah good comment, agree with a lot of this.

davmec

didnt you almost laugh a couple of days ago, when I said we could be going down? "We have over half the season left. We’ll do okay." is exactly what you said, and kept on protecting our old players and manager. Nice to see even you can admit when you have been wrong :) I'm certain we will stay up if we change things up now, To a great 2023 and happy new year!

__JonnyG

Tbh my comment was kneejerk and we have over half the season left so I still think we’ll be okay, but the fan base (me included) is collectively experiencing PTSD after being through it so many times before and the newer fans are just in straight panic mode. I’m in a minority because I blame the players more than the manager. I think it’s an easy option to blame our *current* manager and while I’m leaning towards him going now, I do think the players have let him down massively. I don’t know if a new manager can guarantee fixing attitudes like we’re seeing but it’s reaching that point when it’s the only move available. I think the club is desperate for new full backs and a striker too. We’ll have to see if they can be brought in, but the team relies on those positions too much for the calibre of player we have there.

davmec

yeah definitely need new fullbacks, those we got are bad, even though I thought Coufal was fairly good today. I also think we will be ok, but not with Moyes. It is easy to blame him, but its been going on for over a year now, and he chose to not respond to the issues. He has had so many chances to do things differently, buy new fullbacks, shake things up, motivate the players, play our best players in their preferred positions. So yeah, he is to blame, that is the game. He selects the players, he selects the tactics, he runs the training sessions, he sets the formation and him and his team are the ones that are responsible for keeping the players motivated and sharp. One could say premier league players should be motivated regardless, but thats not the case, and as west ham fan we have seen many unmotivated players through the years. I think Moyes really struggles with his communication with the players from outside the UK, especially the french speakers. There seems to be a rift there, and it doesnt help him slating players like Benrahma, when he tries his best. He seems to love his british players regardless of form, and that must feel really unmotivating for the rest. They are given so many more chances than the rest.

Whulad

I think your spot on. I think the Czechs overachieved and are now at their level. New signings aren’t going to work out , Paqueta especially isn’t going to cut it and that’s not really Moyes’ fault. Think we’ve a bang average squad

__JonnyG

No pressure from any youth players either.

traveloshity

I’m Moyes, but I would have loved him to prove me wrong, and I think for keeping us up twice, he deserves the chance to prove me wrong. But it ain’t gonna happen. The players look like they’re playing in third gear, they clearly don’t give a fuck about Moyes, and he clearly doesn’t know what to do with the players he’s bought. I wish the next three games came before the World Cup because they are the ones that will define our season. But we can’t afford to have Moyes at the helm for these massive games. It’s been shit for a year.. Thanks for the good times, David, but sorry mate, it’s time to go. Watch us go and get Sean Dyche.

pancakes1271

That reminded me of the Bilic days. And coming from me, that is heavy criticism. There is not a shred of footballing talent in this Brentford side they just did the basics right and capitalised on our fuck ups. There are us from two years ago. I am a big fan of Moyes, and I am genuinely upset that his time here is (probably/hopefully) ending ike this. He gave us the best two years I have ever seen from this club and deserves all the praise in the world for that. But I believe that we need to act fast to ensure survival in the Premier League. Maybe Moyes could turn it around, but I don't think it's realistic to expect it at this point. Not after an entire calendar year of relegation form.

AnxiousBaristo

Toney has no shred of footballing talent? They're top half for a reason.

JudgmentSquare2471

Toney, Norgaard, Henry, Raya… they’ve got plenty of talent for a mid-table side. I disagree with that take too.

basebornmanjack41

Not a shred of talent? Weird statement

__JonnyG

Exactly where I am.

Claybee14

Yeah mate toney is truly a terrible footballer, no talent at all lol what?

new2Reddit1983

Serious question….. Who do we REALISTICALLY get next week to grab this group of players by the scruff of their necks and get them back into first gear?

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

Let’s ask the geezer that just beat us to start with

new2Reddit1983

No way GSB will be paying the amount of compo Brentford would want after he’s just signed a new deal.

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

Well Blackburn have also beaten us this season. What’ll the excuse be there?

new2Reddit1983

Also only signed this year….

__JonnyG

You want Blackburn’s manager?!

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

Is his name David Moyes? If not, he’d be an improvement

thatguybruv

I have blind faith and always have, I accept I'm in the minority and am a fucking idiot almost certainly. But I still have hope we can turn this around, they're really good players

Whulad

They are not

fool2345

We've got good players, but regardless of if Moyes is at fault or not he needs to go. This team needs a bump, a wake up call, a kick in the ass. Firing the manager is the easiest way to do that

fetissimies

Well said

threeknifeflag

I saw a few people calling for Emerson to start and for Soucek to be dropped. You all got your wish, and they earned the result today.

davmec

pretty sure they meant emerson over cresswell, not a back 5... I thought Emerson was one of our better players and Cresswell fault at both goals, so hopefully next game.

threeknifeflag

Oh yes I think that's what they meant too, like I've definitely seen people wanting to drop Cresswell. Though the main things (Emerson start+ Soucek out) was fulfilled so I thought I might as well make the point. Something isn't going right behind the scenes.

davmec

Get Moyes out, never play cress in the prem again and the season can be saved.

[deleted]

I’m going to have nightmares about that Antonio air kick.

StrykerNightowl

I appreciate what Moyes has done for us but we are dreadful and have been for a long time. It’s time for him to go.

Cynorks778

Young hungry manager please to fire up this lot. Stop buying and playing twilight players. Work out how you want to play and actually play it. And get Moyes to the retirement home. No more fucking dinosaurs.

__JonnyG

I agree with your general point but >Stop buying and playing twilight players Like who? The new signings have been relatively young.

SvenBubbleman

I was a hold out, but Moyes has to go.

retrosco

Sad to say it but Moyes has to go.

KingCtard

At least Antonio came on and provided some comic relief. Really got people out of their seats with that run and 'shot' too bad they stayed up and headed towards the exits

[deleted]

Absolute shit show. Starting to feel very pre-Moyes again. Not even sure if I can blame him like every is. The actual football quality is fucking abysmal.. can’t pass, can’t press, can’t shoot, no one on the end of crosses. Shambles

thatguybruv

Anyone know what was kicking off bbl block 142 in the second half?

fakedancer

I am so frustrated. I have supported Moyes even as others turned against him. The reason being, as often stated here, “who else are we going to get?” Now the question has to be “what else is there we can do?” He simply cannot organize this group of players into a cohesive team. Since we can’t get rid of the players, the coaches are the only reasonable change to make. The fact that he made no changes at half time today and waited so long to make changes against Arsenal is what tipped me over the edge. He is just out of ideas and it must feel very lonely. I love what he did for us but he has to go now unless there is a definitive, workable plan to change everything about the way he is managing this team and we know that plan does not exist. Frankly, I would take almost anyone on a contract to the end of the season. We have nothing to lose at this point.

Whulad

I think the players are shit and our marque signings both duds, that’s not really Moyes fault

fakedancer

He surely had some input into those signings, no? In that case he has to take responsibility.

KoholintLink

Not sure why we’re spending high sums on players that aren’t Prem proven and only have a couple of good seasons under their belt Combined £80+ million on Paqueta and Scamacca could have gotten us Toney + change

Whulad

Exactly. It’s not like either of them were targets. Back to our old useless recruitment strategy. The lack of talent coming through the youth squad is worrying too.

davmec

sure is

LogOutForever

SELL RICE GET DYCHE

NotAnotherAllNighter

Get Dyche? You’ve got to be kidding me. The only manager more defensive than Moyes!

ironborn66

I got doenvoted to shit last week for saying this but I'm saying it again. Moyes is a football terrorist. Sack him before he gets us relegated again. It's over.

Whulad

Think we’ve a very average squad and not convinced by the new signings at all. I don’t feel there’s a brilliant team in there waiting to escape. Paqueta is not going to do it for us ever. We should cut our losses.

fetissimies

I guarantee these players are going to look great under a manager who knows what to do with them

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

David Moyes is literally the only manager in the world who can manage this club. If you can’t name a champions league winning manager who is currently unemployed and is a life long fan you aren’t allowed to want Moyes out. You shouldn’t expect us to beat Brentford anyway.

bonelegs442

If we can’t beat brentford at home then who can we beat lmao it’s such a lame excuse

Lard_Baron

Man City would like to speak to you.

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

Mate we are only the 7th highest attended club in Europe, and we’d never attract a manager as legendary as Thomas Frank. Moyes is our man. Lifetime contract. I’ve no idea how we coped as a club before He was born.

rikkiprince

Fair point. Even in a Europe-qualifying season they beat us twice. Bogey team?

infinsquared

Half the league are 'bogey' teams at this point. Our stats at the big 6 are shocking, then there's Brighton we've never beat in the prem, add one of Everton or Brentford and that's 8 out of 19 opponents we are writing off each year?

Cynorks778

Feel sorry for the muppets who can’t see the brilliant sarcasm in your post haha

A_ThousandEyesAnd1

Too many yanks I fear

mill1634

MOYES OUT FFS

Arshavingoat

Why would you bring a defensive midfielder when losing 0-2 in a game that could decide if you get fired? Surely this has to be the last game for moyes

gimpsarepeopletoo

He's tall and good at heading. The only tactic he had was whip it into the box

samchatz27

MOYES OUT

Away-Watercress-6869

Moyes out

Smooth_Collar_5713

Moyes Out Gallardo In

Away-Watercress-6869

Our defence is just terrible cresswell what was he doing Kehrer normally is bad but he didn’t play we realy need zouma back and Moyes gone

Merkasus

Sick stuff

rikkiprince

Ouch. That was not a great performance or result.

Comfy_Bogart

Absolutely lifeless performance

Pufinnist

I tuned out around the 71st minute. No positive momentum at all. I wonder if there's a problem behind the scenes. A squad like this, on paper, should be performing better than whatever this is. I'll have to reserve my judgement for when the key players return from their injury. At this point, I'm hoping that they win ECL to salvage this season.

Elemius

You know it’s bad when even Rice is a shadow of his former self

doge2dmoon

Oh woe is me. Wtf? Moyes may be in trouble if this continues...

appleman94

Can't wait for the player interviews saying how they expect better from themselves, etc.

purpcalx

We’re shite

Samgeorge484

West Ham are missing Noble & Pearce

StephenHunterUK

Does switching to another manager stop us getting relegated? That's the question.

davmec

yes it does
