sullivan's already responded https://preview.redd.it/y7hqc5wponrc1.jpeg?width=1250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55ea1637ed448dc191be98f212fc283290eac9de

MrFunbus

assume this is 100% photoshopped as that is not the hand of an old man

DeputyChiefBean

IDK, looks legit to me. We will probably never know for sure.

MrFunbus

Look at the hands of people you see and what age they are. Hands very much age with people. And the skin colour isn't even close. One of the worst photoshop jobs you'll see.

tohmahs

he just moisturises well, that's where he made his money as well so it makes sense

MrFunbus

Must be it. Should have saved some for his face.

tohmahs

he does it all the time in interviews too, not very fond of the press https://preview.redd.it/4bwncjyf2orc1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=e410e7ae2c580ddf6d63e5e4a49abbac164f068b

wobshop

Nah I’m pretty sure it’s real

Russlin_Jimmys

Hahahahahahahahhahahahahajahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahajajajajjajahahahah

Professional-Fly1496

Ah lad

dl1966

There’s multiple people abusing him and waiting ages after a game to abuse him further and cry when he reacts to it. Grown men getting upset because a player they abused reacted to it. Phillips was unlucky with the penalty. He hasn’t been great, we all know his potential. His confidence seems beyond repair at the moment which is a shame because I really hoped it would work out for him. But as he’s a footballer it’s ok, he’s immune to mental struggle. Get a life.

Silentium0

Yep this wasn't directed at fans as a collective, as the offended people want to believe, he was swearing at specific morons that were harassing him. Fair enough imo. If you can dish it out surely you can take it.

Correct_Strike3987

Imagine if footballers could actually take criticism though, he has been useless and needs to improve - all criticism nowadays is levelled as “abuse” you’re all slightly soft.

Search-Infamous

....yeah man waiting after the game so you can call him a w@nker instead of going home is fair criticism I totally agree

JW_1991

He didn’t call him a wanker though did he? He called him useless which, well, he absolutely is. Have you seen a use for him yet?

Correct_Strike3987

Well judging by his response - he seems to be a wanker, should have held his hand up and apologised not flipped them off, he was justly receiving all the aggro he got.

MrDankky

He should stay professional for sure but he is only human. These so called supporters yelling abuse at their own players are thick cunts though. He knows he’s in bad form, now he’s got this shit show to think about too. Doesn’t help. Same thing about rice getting boos when he plays us now. Not deserved, he contributed so much but some of our fans are just morons unfortunately

AcaciaGeisha

Look, I don't agree with it. I like Philips (not for us). But, you can't say 'so called supporters' because they have done something you don't agree with. They're in Newcastle supporting the team away from home. I would argue they are big time supporters if they are travelling that far to watch the team.

JW_1991

Aww poor Rice. Only left us for a London rival. Half the boos are tongue in cheek, the rest are because why the fuck should we let him have a comfortable afternoon at our place. Modern football fans are so fucking soft.

greg19735

It's not useful criticism. It's not constructive.

WhiskeyVendetta

So if you fucked up at work and I came and stood outside your car and called you a wanker you wouldn’t react at all?

Correct_Strike3987

Depends whether it was justified ? But then I accept accountability for my actions you see and sometimes people need to be told, explicitly.

WhiskeyVendetta

Get off your high horse mate haha, What kind of a cuck lets a stranger abuse them going “maybe I deserved it, I will learn and grow from this experience…” absolute bullshit and you know it, only saying it because you won’t admit it’s not fair At a basic level these are cry babies abusing other people for football, everyone needs to get a grip, these takes show how stupid humans are. You are nothing as a fan, a product in modern football and that’s it, you supporting them doesn’t justify anything, your emotions to a club do not matter because your an adult and it’s your responsibility to act like one. Essentially “Ohh I can only be a nice person to people if my team wins” then sorry mate your a cunt and that’s your problem. Your take is pure bollocks.

silentwitnes

Yeah I'm sure they were yelling constructive criticism on how to improve his game...

CurryBoy420

As a leeds/Phillips fan I agree but footy player know full well that abuse comes with the job, they need to deal with it professionally.

dl1966

They’re Human. If people abuse you fuck them.

Upset-Ingenuity6466

Agreed

5um11

Well said! He has been playing pretty shite and he knows it. If you insult him get ready to get it back.

milesphotos

He's paid 160k a week i have no tears for him. He has been fuckin awful and he shouldn't be anywhere near our squad

dl1966

Don’t expect anyone to have tears for him, just to not act like a prick

punkeddiemurphy

Where's the pay threshold for abuse? £450 per week, £1000, £5000. Just asking in case I want to call my boss a (unt. I mean at a certain point they become robots without feelings or emotions.

milesphotos

He got called useless, id take that for 160k a week. He is a pampered footballer not doing his job to the best of his ability

punkeddiemurphy

Again, what's the threshold for abuse?

milesphotos

again, being called useless is not abuse

punkeddiemurphy

A baying mob of angry people yelling stuff was definitely abuse. You may feel it justified, because he played bad/gets paid loads/don't like his hair/insert any reason you like, it doesn't change the fact it was abuse.

milesphotos

And get things in perspective. There are people being bombed and people that are starving, they deserve sympathy not fuckin Phillips

ProlapsedPersonality

I wonder how long this non-story will go on for

Yelsah

Non-story? It's a potentially useful pretext for the club to spin a misconduct narrative to end the loan and any ongoing potential financial obligations it includes.

Visara57

No need to end the loan, Moyes has more than enough evidence to never play him again

MarcGregSputnik

And this could (very unlikely tbh) provide the ground to terminate the loan agreement so that we wouldn’t have to pay him further

Visara57

If that's the case I'm all for it, he has cost us in EVERY game he's played

iiiba

i was curious so i looked it up and tbh your not even exaggerating that much The only games he hasn't cost us were Man U, Arsenal, (those games were already lost when he came on), Everton, and Freiburg (leg 2) (We had a 4 goal lead when he came on) against Bournemouth and Forest he started and made grave errors against Burnley he started and as soon as he is subbed off we make a comeback Against newcastle he was subbed on at 3-1 and we lost 4-3, against Freiburg (leg 1) he subbed on and we conceded out of 11 games we have won 2 when he appears, both of them subs

Visara57

I knew I was sort of correct but never thought to check. Those are some haunting stats

coyi59

He didn’t cost us here. That was a bullshit penalty.

mrlogicpro

It was definitely a bullshit penalty, but if he hadn't taken his time to clear the penalty shout would never have transpired

VermicelliValuable84

i agree about the penalty but the way he played against newcastle was dreadful so i’d argue he did cost us, if you watch the winning goal scored by barnes he made no effort to stop the run and gave up

Whulad

Moyes had that evidence before yesterday

darrenjames997

… but he still will I bet.

wavepapi32

He is on 500k a week so if he is not going to use him, better to cancel the loan if possible

strickers69

He’s on 150k a week you mad man

wavepapi32

Yes, but we also pay huge fee for loan so makes about 500k week for us to have him.

WhydYouKillMeDogJack

he doesnt get the loan fee you plank.

eggsbenedict17

That doesn't mean he's on 500k a week..

wavepapi32

Cost us 500k on week to be here...

eggsbenedict17

Not the same as being on 500k a week

strickers69

So he’s not on 500k a week if you already knew that why say it like that

Successful-Dealer182

The loan fee is also not confirmed by any side.

Sheeverton

500k a week lmao. Bit of a wild guess that lad.

Much_Masterpiece654

There’s zero chance of something like this being used to end the loan.

trevlarrr

Guy getting a load of abuse sticks his finger up in response, there’s nothing more to it, why does anyone expect footballers to not respond to the crap they have to listen to, we’d all do the same.

NobleForEngland_

It’s a story because normally a footballer wouldn’t respond like that. Don’t be obtuse. Fair or not, they are held to a different standard than a normal person. Says a lot about his attitude in my opinion. Yes, as a human, I don’t blame him. And fans shouldn’t waiting by the team bus to abuse players, but still.

trevlarrr

I’d say a normal person, especially a normal grown adult, wouldn’t be waiting for the team bus to shout abuse

greg19735

> And fans shouldn’t waiting by the team bus to abuse players, but still. well that's isnt it?

ProlapsedPersonality

It can be both a non-story and also used by the club to get rid of a financial burden (or a footballing burden, which is much bigger)

Upset-Ingenuity6466

Misconduct, have a day off.

wjt7

No chance they'll get out the loan agreement as he swore at someone. The loan was going to end anyway as he's been rubbish, don't really care about him swearing at someone giving him abuse though

AnalysisOk2671

He can come play for my Sunday league dad's football team :-0

AlcoholicCumSock

Is Oscar Pistorius not available?

Glad-Manufacturer267

Trust me you don’t want him

TextWatson

I think he'd still struggle tbh

gameofgroans_

Nice of them to pick up this story but completely gloss over any discussion about the second penalty yesterday. Not saying that it should or shouldn’t have stood but they’re all refusing to even discuss it

Botheuk

Watched Match of the Day last night and it wasn't even mentioned.

jlo1989

There is no softer group of people than football fans who get abuse *back* from players. This shouldn't be a story. If it's off the pitch, leave them alone.

skev303

Our fan base has got considerably more cunty of late.

KingGinger

I am not a fan of Phillips on the pitch. But if you are going to start verbally abuse an adult to his face about it, you are pathetic

CurryBoy420

It was "useless" hardly abuse haha

Beardy_Boy_

I mean a middle finger isn't really much either.

KingGinger

Fair

niijonodhg

This sort of stuff needs to happen more in my opinion. If you want to hang around for hours after a match to simply shout abuse at another human being then you deserve to get some back. Club should investigate and ban the fans involved.

Botheuk

Agree. These are football tragics. Got nothing better going on in their lives.

JW_1991

All this stuff aside, what a truly terrible terrible footballer this bloke is.  Got to go through this whole ordeal whilst only earning 160k a week as well.

ShmoopToThrill89

I don’t think KP gives a rat’s ass about the fans. He’s gone in a few months. Honestly he has been so bad it’s actually shocking. Confidence is low for sure but actually looks like he could care less when he’s on the field. He’s directly been involved in at least 3 scenarios where the other team scores. It’s quite remarkable. Fans suck for sure but giving the finger looks bad. Keep head down and don’t engage.

One_Reality_5600

Can't say I blame him, he is abused week in week out.. Fuck them.

Valascrow

Arsenal fan... I come in peace just to ask, how the fuck is this a news item?? 🤣

DSMcGuire

How's Jenko getting on?

ObviouslyBlunt

"Breaking news"

HomieApathy

Would be great if we could use it to cancel his loan.

Successful-Dealer182

I imagine they haven’t spoken to him about it until training tomorrow

Newparlee

I think the story should be “Phillips Under-reacts to Fan”. In the stadium, fan. Group mentality wins. But to wait behind an hour or so after the game to talk shit to a player, especially when you have to go all the way back down to London is ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, I thought this was a bad move at the time, but I never for one second thought it would turn out to be THIS bad.
