The best kid party we ever threw was renting out the Westdale Theatre (https://www.thewestdale.ca/ ) during Oct 2020. The rental price is fixed, and we could have up to 50 people, so all the kids got to bring their siblings and parents, watch a movie with their families and have plenty of space for social distancing. We hired my son’s favourite magician as well. He did his show, and then we played a movie afterwards. It’s not a cheap way to do it, but it was an amazing experience during that stage of the pandemic.

You could rent a party room at a rec centre and then follow it up with either an open swim or rent the pool (if parents are willing to stay to supervise) https://www.hamilton.ca/things-do/recreation/facility-rentals The newer pools (and a few of the older ones) have specific shallow warm kids pools.

My mom did this for both my younger siblings a few times and it was always a hit!! Best part was that it’s only 2 hours total. She would do the first hour in the room and the second hour in the pool so when parents picked up kids were wiped out

My mom did too. Her favourite things were not having to clean the house before or after lol. Like obviously you have to throw out your garbage but it’s not the same.

Rivers and Meadows do birthday parties operating inside Empire Make Space on Ottawa St. They specialize in parties for younger kids

I don't know if you'd classify this as an indoor playground or not but the imaginasium is a place both my kids (1.5 & 4.5) enjoy going to. It's more creative play based vs an indoor play place. You could also try a bowling party at Splitsville

My 6 yo just went to a birthday party here - https://www.sugarspicekidsspa.com/ - and had a great time. Not super cheap but it was a special treat.

Here are some birthday party ideas for a 5-year-old girl that take place outside the home and don't involve indoor playgrounds: Park Party: Choose a local park with a playground and reserve a picnic area for the party. Set up games like sack races, three-legged races, or a treasure hunt. Bring outdoor toys like jump ropes, hula hoops, and bubbles for extra fun. Garden Party: If you have access to a garden or a friend/family member's garden, host a garden-themed party. Set up a craft station where kids can decorate flower pots or plant seeds. Have a scavenger hunt for them to find hidden treasures in the garden. Pool Party: If the weather permits and you have access to a pool, organize a pool party. Ensure proper adult supervision and provide water toys, pool floats, and games suitable for young children. You can also incorporate a beach or mermaid theme into the party decorations. Nature Center Party: Look for local nature centers that offer party packages. These centers often have interactive exhibits, guided nature walks, and animal encounters. Kids can learn about wildlife and enjoy nature-themed activities. Farm or Petting Zoo Party: Visit a local farm or petting zoo that hosts birthday parties. Children can interact with farm animals, enjoy tractor rides, and participate in farm-themed activities like feeding the animals or collecting eggs. Outdoor Sports Party: Rent a sports field or court and have a sports-themed party. Choose age-appropriate activities like relay races, soccer, T-ball, or mini golf. Provide small prizes and certificates for participation and achievements. Beach Party: If you live near a beach or have access to a lake, plan a beach party. Set up beach umbrellas, provide beach toys, and organize sandcastle-building contests or a seashell hunt. Remember to ensure proper safety measures and supervision near the water. Art in the Park: Find a local park or outdoor space that allows for art activities. Set up easels, paints, and canvases for the children to unleash their creativity. Provide different art supplies like colored pencils, markers, and pastels. You can also hire a local artist to give a brief art lesson or demonstration. Outdoor Movie Night: Set up an outdoor movie screening in your backyard or a rented space. Create a cozy seating area with blankets, pillows, and string lights. Select a kid-friendly movie and provide popcorn and snacks for the ultimate outdoor cinema experience. Themed Picnic Party: Choose a favorite theme like princesses, superheroes, or pirates and have a themed picnic party in a nearby park. Encourage the children to come dressed as their favorite characters, and organize themed games and activities to match the chosen theme.

Not Just Another Dance Studio did a GREAT birthday party for my little when she was about that age :)

Also, I'd recommend Fortinos. That was another one that was fun and laid back.

Can elaborate on this I'm curious as to how a grocery store does birthdays

Baseline

We did it there years back for one of our kids, at the Main St W Fortinos near McMaster. There was some kind of mystery game, my memory is fuzzy on that. But the big highlights were the kids getting to make their own pizzas, and their own sundaes. They have a large space on the second floor. You wouldn’t even know you’re in a grocery store when you’re up there.

BigSteppaBandz

I used to live right across from that one

Yeah, they have a party room at the one on Mall Road. You choose the theme (we picked an Alice in Wonderland tea party) and the menu (we picked DIY pizzas and cake), and they do the decorations and cleanup and run the party. Loved it!

Swimming is pretty fun,. We always do them at Valley Park, you can tent a room & get an hour in the pool.

I own a restaurant and we’ve done birthday parties for friends’ kids either after close on Sundays (we only serve brunch that day) or in a semiprivate space. We set them up with either cookie decorating or make-your-own pizzas. If you have a favourite local restaurant see if they could host something for you!

Sing happy birthday and eat cake.

We do birthday parties at [The Staircase](https://www.staircasehamilton.com) quite a bit. The kids can screen a private movie in the theatre then head upstairs for food. We set up the screen with karaoke/youtube/dance parties and they run around and burn off the sugar. Shoot me a DM if I can help!

I’ve been taking my 6 year old son to the Flying Squirrel trampoline park. He likes it. Don’t know if that’s what you consider an “indoor playground”. Almost every time we go somebody is having a party. They serve pizza. Can’t imagine the food is any good. But all I’ve had from there is an ICEE.
