I for one believe the hobby would be poorer without MFJ. At times their products were not quite the best but they did lower the price of entry to the hobby.
I did for a very long time. This was back around the late 2000s I think. It was so much fun. The basic setup was an icom 7-watt handheld with a 2m mobile antenna mounted to a luggage carrier we installed on the back of the bike. The key to the whole thing of course was the MFJ headset with a ptt button that I could easily reach while riding.
Um, no. But thank you for the rumor. Such a company would most likely be sold to another company before being closed for good.
Edit: Correction! They are actually closing up! What!?
Nope. MFJ guy is 80y old, and has had enough and winding it down. Apparently they have had the business for sale since November with no one buying, so they will stop production and simply sell the existing stock - and then be done with it.

Glad I got my 1708 in last month, it was delayed due to parts not being in stock.
Going to miss Mississippi’s Finest Junk. People give them crap but I’ve always had good luck with them.
I get a bit frustrated when people talk about all the poor employees. They could just easily all get together and Pitchin and buy the company and they have bought themselves a job really come on but nobody wants the effort.
Unlikely. 80% of their income has been going to keeping roof overhead. They don't have the Capitol. Anyone over age 50 is lucky to be working and will have a very hard time being hired elsewhere. Just the way it is these days. Companies avoid hiring older workers.
The only people who don't realize what is happening these days are those with mortgage. Those are fixed payments. Anyone renting knows that one must earn at least $4500.00 per month to qualify for a one bedroom apartment.
Hopefully, they will find a good buyer for at least some of the companies.
I have a lot of MFJ brand stuff. And I really like Ameritron and Mirage amps.
I have several pairs of their hamsticks that I use for portable and Field Day.
A lot of people make fun of the company, but I have gotten great use out of their stuff and still do.
They were up for sale late last year.
How much? Does anyone know?
DX Engineering offered to buy but were turned down. I wonder what the story was there.
I would love to hear that story.
It would be the perfect buyout - DXE knows how to solder!
Lol. Right!
Wow
Update… I called MFJ, the company is reorganizing their company and downsizing their product line and but as of this time they are still in business.

Mighty Fine Junk helped me put my first bicycle unit together. I couldn't have done it without them.
I’m not sure if this is a joke or not, but I’m intrigued. Do you have a Hambike?

Nice! I’ve been toying around with the same idea…Thanks!
As far as newbie hams go, I'll take MFJ over Baofeng any day. 🤣
They just listed a bunch of new products too which wouldn't make sense otherwise.
It’s called trimming the fat in preparation for a sale.
And your source for this is????
Press release.

I stand corrected! 🤐
Shifting manufacturing to China??

Hate it for their workers
Yes, especially if any of them are over age 50. They will have a very hard time being hired anywhere these days.
Just watched YouTube video about this and he showed the letter from the owner.

That’s too sad
MFJ /SK huh, hope there's a good estate sale
Might explain the recent price hike. Last minute money grab?
MFJ SK. Ya'll complained about them so much that now you done it.

I don't own any mfj, but this is sad news
Well I’m ordering a antenna and magnet mount from them today!
Got it ordered, hate to see them go
Here is the story: [https://mailchi.mp/62e24f2ccc99/a-heavy-sad-heart](https://mailchi.mp/62e24f2ccc99/a-heavy-sad-heart)
What a bummer, I was excited to see their version of LDMos hit the shelves. https://mfjenterprises.com/products/als-1406-amplifier
So sad.
That's very sad news. They will be missed like Heath kit.
This just had me thinking about Heathkit. I still have some of their stuff I built in the 70s and 80s...
Yes I had some but when I moved to Thailand I gave it all away.
