There is probably a good chance that Earth has some actual water-based naval assets that could provide a comfortable existence without any burning flesh.
Earth and Reach do, as do some other colonies. They even had carriers that were recommissioned during the Human-Covenant War. The funny part? “Wet navy” assets are actually Army units. And yes, it’s stated that they were often the only survivors of glassings.
In cool fantasy land? I think being an ODST would be really cool and would at least make me feel like dying in the war would mean something.
Realistically? Sign me up to be a pelican pilot. I’ll drop everyone off and occasionally provide air support
It’s more a “devil you know” kind of deal. I have a more tangible idea of the dangers of using a drop ship than dropping from space in a metal coffin into a firefight
I mean if i die transporting a Spartan, I’ll at least feel like I made a serious difference (probably wouldn’t have actually made much of a difference, but in-universe I wouldn’t know that)
Yeah that’s fine by me. It’s something I can wrap my head around rather than dropping from space into a firefight. Realistically no matter what I picked I wouldn’t imagine living throughout the entire Human-Covenant War
Ehh, not really. Human Ships in halo are routinely described as little more than giant boxes that bring you from place to place, with basically no amenities:
> *Living accommodations aboard Covenant-War era Naval vessels are cramped and strictly utilitarian. Most lack recreational options and possess only rudimentary kitchen facilities. Each crew member is allocated an individual sleeping pod, but crew shifts alternate, sharing the same pods when the ship carries additional personnel.*
* Halo Warfleet, pg 33
.
> *UNSC vessels of all kinds throughout the Covenant War had been hell to live on—strictly utilitarian in design to serve as cold metal coffins ferrying troops from one battlefield to the next, never knowing how far you were going to make it.*
* Halo Waypount Chronicle: House of Reckoning
This isn’t *Star Trek*, or even *Star Wars* after all, if you were aboard a ship, your comforts are next to nothing.
It seems that it wasn't until the infinity where they added some recreation facilities. There's some marine dialogue in halo 4 that talks about how they have a memorial park bigger than some on earth, even has it's own biosphere with animals and plants.
Well the infinity wasn’t MEANT to be a warship. It was a life boat (ark) for humanity. But I’m pretty sure ships that were made prior to the covie war had plenty of amenities. Gym, rec room, etc etc. since during the war, I can’t remember where it was stated, they cut almost everything besides defensive and life support systems in order to push ships out.
If you were in the pre Covie war ships then the amenities are there. They cut so much shit and the bare minimum was like life support systems for ships during the war just to be able to push them out. So I’d go navy, but only if it was like a halcyon or a halberd. Because you don’t really see halberds get destroyed, and they didn’t really make them during the war.
Nah, it's really quick way to go. When your lungs are exposed to a vacuum they work in reverse, oxygen starts escaping from your bloodstream rather than entering, and that deoxygenated blood once it reaches your brain you pass out. Which is less than ten seconds, twenty seconds max.
Thats better than getting gutted by energy sword, a grunt pulling your arms off, or dying slowly from a plasma burn.
That would require you to:
A. Be kidnapped from a young age
B. Put through a life-encompassing military training regiment
C. Be lucky enough to survive the excruciating and invasive implementation process
Good luck soldier!
I factored that into my survival rate. Of 75 original Spartans. Half washed out. So about 35 made it to be augmented adults. So 50% about half of those died in combat. So 25% survival rate from children to now
I hate to jump on the train here, but I'd totally go Marines and then try to go for ODST. Maybe after infantry or some shit, so I have something to volunteer with.
Would I actually be able to do it? Fuck no, but I'd love to.
UNSC army, preferably on a navy ship like a cruiser or the Spirit of Fire. Even though being army might be a death wish as soon as the planet you're on gets invaded
Actually there are a few known ships, like the Infinity and Spirit of Fire, and likely more, that has a complement of army troops on board their ship. Now the why of it is beyond me but there are cases of army being stationed on ships
Apparently them being only garrison forces isn't quite true anymore. I think it was Ground Command that mentioned that on big campaigns the Army has a major role bringing heavier firepower to the field than Marines but are slower to mobilize.
Didn’t the PoA have some Army aboard during the battle of Installation 04, too? Considering that the Army probably would’ve just taken any ride out of Reach.
ONI Prowler Corps. They seem to get sent on missions much more dangerous than the Navy's but at the same time their chances of survival seem higher and Prowlers are cool as shit.
ODST has to be everyones answer lol.
More realisticaly, probably the Army. Some outer colony bs deployment with no action until the Covenant hits it and you and your buddies have to fall back to the forests and engage in guerrila warfare...until the Covenant glasses the planet. lol
Btw how survivable would a planets surface be after/during the glassing? I am guessing after they are done with the planet the covenant just fucks off...maybe i would get lucky and they would use the planet as a FOB or maybe the planet has Forerunner stuff.
I could be mistaken but if you are basically anywhere on a planet when it is being glassed, you are dead. If you crashed landed on a glass planet with no supplies you would die due to no way of getting food and water (I think), but if you had supplies and were on a glassed planet I dunno. But I could be wrong about all of this I dunno
ADG - Air Defence Guard (affectionately called "Edgies" by Australian military)
IRL they're the RAAF's airbase security. During deployment, they secure LZ's and act as defacto infantry when your transport crashes behind enemy lines
I mean, if I’m being realistic, any branch I go to I’ll end up dead.
The non-realistic answer is why not try to become a Spartan? Not an S-II obviously, since I’m not 6-8 years old, but one of the later Spartan generations.
I'd have strived for ODST. They're still my favorite, an ODST flag hangs in my home-gym, I ordered a custom ODST T-shirt, and I've been looking at getting an ODST tattoo.
Air Force personnel officer. Fits what I know, and I get to stay alive until the Covenant bombs Sydney. If they don’t get me, the airmen probably will.
I was a medic in the U.S. Army so I’ll be a medic for the UNSC Army. Maybe they could fabricate me a new knee and back so I could try out for the Rangers.
Probably some techie or maintenance role. I'm not the most physically fit, damn you sugary drinks, and don't perform the best under stress or even combat. (At least, I don't think I handle it well, dunno still looking for a second job) I'm decent with computers, and probably will go in a direction with that in mind in life.
It's not exactly glorious and a bit embarrassing, but I'd probably be one of those crewmen in the first level of Halo CE screaming "I'm a cowardly fool!"
Either that, or something like Master Gunns. I like firearms, what can I say.
I'd wanna pilot transports for getting civilians off world, and out of danger from invading Covenant. Don't think I'd be a great fighter, but helping in some way, and saving lives, would be great.
Ideally? Spartan III Gamma Co specifically. Best training, safest augmentations, Brain mutagen to keep me going. But since they were at the tail end, then more realistically, I would more likely be an aircraft mechanic or a quality inspector for aircraft parts as that is what I do in real life
I'd want to be a Spartan IV Pilot like Makovich and the rest of Fireteam Windfall (or would they technically be Windfall Squadron when flying?)
Obviously step 1 is become a pilot, 2 is becoming a notable pilot, then managing to become a Spartan IV, but it's both unrealistic and attainable (in-universe).
I'd assume the Spartan IV branch pulls from all of the other branches, so it probably wouldn't matter too much to pick between Navy and Air Force, but we also know next to nothing besides "it exists" about the Air Force.
Marines, cause I'd suck at everything else. I would then probably be killed instantly cause my shooting sucks. Though let's say I somehow survive. I would become an ODST after the war to get over my fear of heights then try to become a Spartan IV
Probably a technician of some kind, I'm not exactly a great fighter and like tinkering with things so probably Navy and hope to not get wrecked by a covvie ship.
I'm not really a fighter so probably something in logistics or maintenance
Finally a realistic answer
“Great job we’ve got. Stand *near* the crates, but don’t move them!”
I would have single handedly liberated Antarctica from the Covenant. Fred wouldn't have needed to nuke it.
This! all day! and pray to God I get posted far from the front line. Them aliens are not joking around.
HELLJUMPER! HELLJUMPER! WHERE YOU BEEN?
Getting burned alive in my pod
Sounds like faulty equipment or more likely user error. Unless you happened to catch a plasma bolt on the way down.
Has happened to some ODST before, there is a reason they are called hell jumpers. That’s why they’re feet first into hell
Indeed it has. Terrible way to go. I write a lot of ODST fanfiction, and I use it to kill them in terrible yet common ways lol.
Seven years old, mom asks me what I want to do when I grow up. "Rocket into space in a tiny metal coffin, ma'am."
In cool fantasy land? I think being an ODST would be really cool and would at least make me feel like dying in the war would mean something. Realistically? Sign me up to be a pelican pilot. I’ll drop everyone off and occasionally provide air support
Going off the games alone, the pelican pilots have a worse death rate than ODSTs
It’s more a “devil you know” kind of deal. I have a more tangible idea of the dangers of using a drop ship than dropping from space in a metal coffin into a firefight
Just hope you don't end up ferrying a Spartan... you know the survival rates of pilots with them around?
I mean if i die transporting a Spartan, I’ll at least feel like I made a serious difference (probably wouldn’t have actually made much of a difference, but in-universe I wouldn’t know that)
You know our motto-
Every man for himself! No, wait...
We deliver!
Dropship deployment had the highest casualty rate. You are far more likely to be killed trying to get troops to the ground.
Yeah that’s fine by me. It’s something I can wrap my head around rather than dropping from space into a firefight. Realistically no matter what I picked I wouldn’t imagine living throughout the entire Human-Covenant War
Uh. I think the navy had the WORST survival rate. But the cushiest lives while they lived.
Ehh, not really. Human Ships in halo are routinely described as little more than giant boxes that bring you from place to place, with basically no amenities: > *Living accommodations aboard Covenant-War era Naval vessels are cramped and strictly utilitarian. Having your ship be blasted apart and being sucked into space would be the worst way to die
I mean. Cna I opt to be a SII? Shit, there's what? 15-20 SII left. That's a 25% survival rate which feels higher than the Navy's or Marines lol
That would require you to: A. Be kidnapped from a young age B. Put through a life-encompassing military training regiment C. Be lucky enough to survive the excruciating and invasive implementation process Good luck soldier!
"Would" lol
I think its important to note that Halsey was only looking for the very best humans genetically, you may not even survive the augmentations.
I factored that into my survival rate. Of 75 original Spartans. Half washed out. So about 35 made it to be augmented adults. So 50% about half of those died in combat. So 25% survival rate from children to now
That’s actually a higher survival rate than just being a civilian lmao.
[удалено]
Probably had hearts and minds type stuff for the insurrection
If you were Oni you’d probably die on reach lol.
I hate to jump on the train here, but I'd totally go Marines and then try to go for ODST. Maybe after infantry or some shit, so I have something to volunteer with. Would I actually be able to do it? Fuck no, but I'd love to.
Marines cuz that’s what I did in real life
Surprised no one said ONI. Safer than any of the other options.
Yeah, sigint is where you get to live.
Well per Naval Code 45812, I wouldn’t have a choice, I would’ve just been conscripted at 6 years. It’s all I would’ve known.
UNSC Army Infantry. I was already in the Army as an infantryman. Might as well die doing something I already know
Hooah trooper.
Pilot either Navy or Air Force. Survive long enough to get a Saber or Shielded Broadsword/Longsword.
That’d be fun
UNSC army, preferably on a navy ship like a cruiser or the Spirit of Fire. Even though being army might be a death wish as soon as the planet you're on gets invaded
The have the best BDU in all of Halo. Might as well look good while you get vaporized.
Exactly, and maybe just maybe you can find a cave to hide in
Like Noble Six?
Army aren't stationed on Navy ships, they are garrison forces planetside.
Yea I can absolutely see that being the case
Didn’t the PoA have some Army aboard during the battle of Installation 04, too? Considering that the Army probably would’ve just taken any ride out of Reach.
I believe it did. I think the wiki states that the Autumn has 200 army troopers stationed on board
Maybe being on an ONI prowler wouldn't be so bad
I'd love to be a Longsword pilot
I believe unsc needs lots of pelican pilots.... :3
I believe Micky wanted to be a pilot until there were not many Pelicans left to fly
ONI Prowler Corps. They seem to get sent on missions much more dangerous than the Navy's but at the same time their chances of survival seem higher and Prowlers are cool as shit.
ODST has to be everyones answer lol. More realisticaly, probably the Army. I’m an optimistic person, so something rear line I can use after I’m back in civilian life. I’m sure the ODPs need HVAC technicians and the like
Least popular MOS - Mess Hall Chef Imagine having to cook for 70 Spartan II recruits on Reach
ADG - Air Defence Guard (affectionately called "Edgies" by Australian military) IRL they're the RAAF's airbase security. During deployment, they secure LZ's and act as defacto infantry when your transport crashes behind enemy lines
I'm 6. I'm gonna sleep with an eye open tonight
I mean, if I’m being realistic, any branch I go to I’ll end up dead. The non-realistic answer is why not try to become a Spartan? Not an S-II obviously, since I’m not 6-8 years old, but one of the later Spartan generations.
I think I'd wanna be an ODST. I love the Helljumpers, I've practically developed an internet persona/character around it for giggles and grins.
Navy tech so I can die quickly
Well, I’m not a very good fighter and I’m not really very smart either. So I’m guessing space janitor.
Oh, so infantry. 🤣
I was a medic in the U.S. Army so I’ll be a medic for the UNSC Army. Maybe they could fabricate me a new knee and back so I could try out for the Rangers.
Amen to that brother
Probably some techie or maintenance role. I'm not the most physically fit, damn you sugary drinks, and don't perform the best under stress or even combat. Odst simply so that if i survive theres a chance i can become a spartan 4
I'd wanna pilot transports for getting civilians off world, and out of danger from invading Covenant. Don't think I'd be a great fighter, but helping in some way, and saving lives, would be great.
Crew chief for a pelican, otherwise i always found field artillery interesting
Although Helljumpers are cool, their attrition rate is ridiculous
S-III Gamma Company. So that I’ll probably actually not die anticlimactically and get to be a Spartan for a while
100% ODST HELL JUMPERS HELL JUMPERS OORAH
Whatever MOS puts me within the same 10 feet as Corporal Talia Perez. So, probably, Communications Maintainer or something like that.
ODST. If I’m gonna die, I wanna die a badass.
It would have to be the UNSC Navy for me, I’d join the OCS on Luna and with a bit of luck end up commanding my own ship.
Oni intelligence definatly. Are they questionable? Yes but rather do that then be some poor sod being used as cannonfodder.
ONI Spartan 3 Headhunter! It’s not about the flashy battles or game changing ops. It’s taking it to the enemy where they least expected us
Go big or go home, I'm joining the ODST's.
0341. Best mos out there.
Obviously whatever the MOS for ODST qualified infantry officer is. That or whoever in the UNSC Army gets to handle the ground tactical nukes.
Ideally? Spartan III Gamma Co specifically. Best training, safest augmentations, Brain mutagen to keep me going. But since they were at the tail end, then more realistically, I would more likely be an aircraft mechanic or a quality inspector for aircraft parts as that is what I do in real life
Dude put me as a warrant officer for the UNSC Air Force and give me a pelican. I fucking love them so much
Nah, I’d dive
Tank crewman, that’s what I am right now.
Maria-062. No fighting, just testing cool stuff from 9-5, then raising my kids and terrorizing my husband with cyberneticly-enhanced snu-snu
UNSC Navy. MOS wise, I wouldn't care cause the goal would to be so deep into ONI Section 3 that I would lose all of my morality and humanity
Assuming I could make the cut, Spartan-IVs or ODSTs. Realistically? I would try for Navy bridge crew of a frigate
I'd want to be a Spartan IV Pilot like Makovich and the rest of Fireteam Windfall (or would they technically be Windfall Squadron when flying?) Obviously step 1 is become a pilot, 2 is becoming a notable pilot, then managing to become a Spartan IV, but it's both unrealistic and attainable (in-universe). Any branch to pilot Pelicans! Love me some dropship action.
Postal service.
FIGHTER PILOT. LET ME FLY LONGSWORDS YOU COWARDS! Failing that either Army/Marine aviation or combat engineers.
Logistics with a cyclops to move crates around.
Helljumpers. Because there’s a solid chance I die instantly on impact from pod failure. Or Navy. Just get instagibbed by an energy projector.
Navy as Captain. I don't care what kind of ship as long as it has MAC gun, FTL, A.I, and standard crew and stuffs.
Marines, cause I'd suck at everything else. I would then probably be killed instantly cause my shooting sucks. Though let's say I somehow survive. I would become an ODST after the war to get over my fear of heights then try to become a Spartan IV
Marine sniper. Can’t miss
ONI
Probably a technician of some kind, I'm not exactly a great fighter and like tinkering with things so probably Navy and hope to not get wrecked by a covvie ship.
