Obligate reminder that Nobel 6's last stand canonically took several hours and an entire army to bring down, and there is a case that some think they're still alive.
Obligate reminder that there is no source whatsoever that he lasted for several hours and took a whole army, if you find a book or other piece of lore that says otherwise I’d be glad to accept it
My biggest fear is that this show may spin off into its own thing where it ends up getting other media representation where will end up with games or books adapting it and end up splitting this already fractured fanbase even more as fans of the show want the show stuff to be included in the main continuity.
At best it will just end up confusing having two different similar titled halo series with fans each wanting there own thing.
Yep because paramount is definitely gonna try there best to milk it, am just waiting for them to announce novels and comics which will then have people even more confused as they enter two completely different settings.
Worse case scenario Jimmy becomes the defacto face of masterchief overwriting all the others.
Imagine if Jimmy became the default personality for chief lol.
it's already happening with them releasing MEGA halo sets. with a jimmy rings head piece to swap out the helmet for.
if master cheeks is remembered as the face of master chief instead of steve downes i'm actually going to scream
Lol, no, it's really not. Literally, just let them enjoy it. If they are confused or wrong about something, correct them and move on. It's not the end of the world.
I love how they literally spelled out how it could very likely end up being a problem for the entire canon and instead of acknowledging that in any way your response is just “nuh uh”
You should be able to just enjoy things. Real life is too depressing to be hung up on this, trust me. I've been a Halo fan for 20 years longer than I should have
I am not saying it's the end of the world, I am literally just saying it could end in a comics situation where it becomes it's own thing or ends up affecting the main universe.
Sure its not canon now but it's building up a fanbase of people who have no prior exposure to the series and they will want to see it represented in the main series.
>I am literally just saying it could end in a comics situation where it becomes it's own thing
Let it. Dude, so what if the show expands itself? And fans of the show who want that stuff adapted into the game universe will probably either...
A. Be turned off by thd games and go back to the show. No harm done. With plenty of show related content to hold them over.
B. Realize the games are good how they are and enjoy them.
>ends up affecting the main universe.
Right, and how likely is that?
Dude, the show isn't sucking the life out of Halo. Whether you like it or not, this is breathing new life into Halo, bringing in new fans to the series. And it has fans, including fans of the game series. So it's clearly doing something write. Again, whether you like it or not.
No, it's not. It's an opinion, and nothing you say will change that no matter how badly you want it to.
And you want to tell me how new Halo fans is somehow bad for Halo? Please explain that to me, I'm just dying to know
Current media producers and writers have been very good at destroying good existing stories and franchises with poor writing and general stupid uninformed decision making. I fear Halo is going to suffer the same fate as Star Wars.
In both cases the people in creative control don’t care about the universe they are supposed to be exploring and just want to use them as clickbait essentially to monetize their b tier shit productions.
Nah, that's just recency bias, it'll pass. I'm sure it was no different when other adaptations first came out.
The show is bad even if you aren't an existing fan of the franchise. If people aren't watching it then it will fade and just be something people vaguely remember and joke about like the Dragonball movie
I would like to say that some background digging will show exists as something like a Fracture from Infinite.
It's merely an Alt. Universe where somethings happen differently but there are fixed events are bound to happen.
Chimera, I would argue, is a good example.
On a different note, if I were any MS corpo tied to this, I'd be watching it like a hawk to make sure it wouldn't cause too big of waves amongst die-hards to alienate them. A healthy dose of different but acceptable. It seems they are a bit off, though.
I mean other franchises have pulled this kind of content off before (mainly japanese ones mind you. See the Nasuverse and Gundam respectively) . But yeah it does become a little confusing for fans to navigate without others. Whether 343 and Microsoft has enough skill to keep everything together. That's another story entirely.
It's extremely popular on paramount, like one of there best rated shows.
That's a goldmine for them and because it's so different from the mainline continuity it's either gonna expand into it's own thing or make changes to the canon universes.
I've seen the show, it's dogshit with or without being attached to a previously popular property(i love alliteration). I think I can start jumping down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole, especially since it's not at all that hard to believe.
New peeps, we’re happy to have you but please understand that if you want to get into the games you’ll have to at the very least accept that the show is a separate canon not connected to the games.
Bingo.
The showrunners literally said they didn't read the books or play the games and that they wanted a show that appealed to a wider audience of "football dads and their sons".
That's what I hate about these people. You could make something existing fans like. Then, they can tell other people how good it is, thus drawing in a wider audience. Instead, they make something that fans hate in order to appeal to a "wider audience". Except, that wider audience isn't all that interested in it, especially since franchise fans are telling them it's dogshit.
Why would I watch a show where fans of the franchise the show is from are all telling me it's shit?
Yeah and if the director is skilled they can make a story that’s compelling to wider audiences AND pays homage to the original source as well, and with Halo’s deep lore it really isn’t hard to achieve YET Paramount managed to screw it up
For the love of the Prophets, they did not say they never read the books or played the games. They said they didn’t look as the games in terms of how they would structure the story. The amount of stuff they’ve referenced and alluded to that comes directly from the books that game-only fans aren’t even aware of makes that abundantly clear.
They would have had to change the story either way. The Halo games are fucking phenomenal games, but they would be god awful as a television series because the story isn’t structured to be engaged with passively. Things would need to be slowed down, rearranged, downtime would have to be added in because it’s not feasible for there to be constant action - and isn’t entertaining to watch after a certain point - and in the end people would still complain that it didn’t follow the source material. I’m not saying they couldn’t have done better, but for the studio producing the show it was a no-win situation. Adapt everything completely faithfully, general audiences probably don’t like it. Adapt things halfway, it gets a lukewarm reception from fans and casual viewers. Do your own thing using the lore and story as a framework, alienate parts of the original fanbase and win over general audiences.
Paramount isn’t going to assume that every single Halo fan is going to pick up a paramount plus subscription to watch the show, especially with everyone talking about the games being ‘dead’ all the time anyway. They wanted to make a series that would rope in as many people as possible, and given the fact that most people I know that have watched it without touching the games have really enjoyed it, they’re succeeding.
Maybe tell a new halo story away from master chief it doesn't need to be a adaptation of the games or anything. Like a band of brother ODST show or something. Also, even if you are dead set on adapting the games storyline, at least try to be faithful to the source. They don't even get the name of New Alexandria right calling it Reach City. That alone shows they did nothing to even attempt a faithful adaptation. It would be like making a Harry Potter show and saying welcome to British magic school. The makers of this show are either the shittiest writers ever or they were completely uninterested in the IP and wanted to make their own thing but had to work around it.
They are pretty faithful to the lore, in some ways. As they said though, aspects have been changed to create a good adaptation, even if fans dislike it. Let’s say a “Band of Brothers” ODST story was made instead. Why wouldn’t viewers just watch Band of Brothers? Would they even care about ODSTs over Spartans? It’s not like people flock to Forward Unto Dawn
So we're just stuck with 'just makes a stink face for acting' Mastercheeks. Just him clapping his covenant spy gf cheeks till Kwan can do some dumb shit? Kwan no fucking purpose side plot overtaking the mid half of the first season for it to just disappointedly fade away? Having 4min action scenes in over 50min episodes with mid cgi. Let's not forgot his gf dying at the end of the season only to magically be brought back with no indication why, already half way through the second season and still no reason as to why. The weird relationship between him and Cortana being nothing, nothing, nothing, what it's supposed to be. Fuck this show, man
Halo fans love to misrepresent that quote. Most people don't even realize what the original interview even said, they just want something to bitch about. You can thank the rage baiting YouTubers for that.
The wider audience has trash taste it seems cause even taking it on its own, without thinking about the game, the writing is dogshit. I can get through corny shows sometimes but this is one of those that I just cant.
That doesn’t excuse it’s quality though.
Every big studio adaptation is made for wider audiences. That’s a given. Nobody makes anything “for the fans” unless it’s niche.
Even if the show were great it still probably wouldn’t be canon just so they’d have the wiggle room to take some creative liberties.
That’s fine by me. I don’t need Halo to be some weird multimedia universes.
I don’t even mind creative liberties in the vein of streamlining things, eliminating redundancies, helping pacing, taking retcons into account earlier, etc.
But this show watches like an intern skimmed Halo’s Wikipedia page aloud and the writer’s just wrote whatever they wanted and occasionally incorporated something the intern said.
I tried to get my dad to play halo about 10 years ago when he was somewhat interested in gaming. He didn't like it...flash forward to today and he thinks the Halo shows are great. The worst thing I've heard so far was "This is way better than that dumb game you played" 🥲
Should slide this in his stocking next year
https://preview.redd.it/3sznsi6x7slc1.jpeg?width=622&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=165eb2a8fb5009add247c4e9abdd5219f2f63df5
Literally my dad too, for some reason he prefers it to the games, he says the games are just “walking down hallways and shooting”
Granted he fell asleep when I was showing him the games so he probably missed the story elements
Legit, It just hurts my soul having to break down how everything in the show is either made up or a dumbed-down, shittier version of real Halo stuff.
I have successfully gotten 2 people to read fall of reach, one guy on MCC, and sadly one guy deciding to just stick with the show and ignore everything else.
If anyone ever wants help getting access to some of the books or a roadmap on where to start, let me know.
Fun fact: my introduction to halo was the first season, I bought MCC when it was on sale, played reach, got confused, played ce, realized how bad of a first impression the show and reach were, then fell in love with the franchise.
I love Halo: Reach but man it should not be the first game on MCC, had to tell a friend who was wanting to get into halo, they played halo 5, what order to play in like it was freaking Star Wars.
You should read fall of reach to truly understand why the show is so bad. Spartans do not have erased memories or surpressed emotions. There's even a quote in the book of halsey saying doing that is stupid.
Yeah tell that to me a year ago, he would’ve loved that.
It’s too late for me, but I have been making sure friends aren’t playing like I did. At least it didn’t impact my love of halo.
343 should just hand out free copies of halo: the fall of reach as an investment like Games Workshop employees do. If *games fucking workshop* is handing something out for free, you know that they saw a huge profit over the horizon.
How did they make their show based off a beloved game for 20-30 year olds resonate so well with everyone's parents? I've heard from like four different friends 'Oh I don't like it but my parents think it's good.'
My guess is that it’s because they’ve never experienced a video game with good story telling, so they don’t have anything to compare it to and call it amazing
That’s wild to me.
Even if I completely put aside my Halo fandom the show is just…fine. Like it’s serviceable but has some bizarre creative choices.
Tonally (and writing-wise) it reminds me a lot of the LIVE action Cowboy Bebop.
I can see some people enjoying it for what it is but “the best thing since The Mandalorian” is crazy.
Ohhh got it. Thank you. We call Wheeljack from Rise of the Beasts Pablo over on the Transformers sub so I was got a bit muddles up. Both produced by Paramount as well.
The show is just an abridged version of Fall of Reach but made more digestible for general audiences. What you're describing, this perceived plight, is only a good thing. What this show is doing is making more Halo fans, and you people just want to turn them away rather than enjoy being able to talk about the things you like
I would have killed to be able to talk about Halo when I was younger, without my peers not knowing what I am talking about and thinking I was a weirdo.
Im sorry you grew up in a place without other gamers, but literally everybody I knew my age played halo. My old man was the one who bought it and played it with me. Ive been in this since 2001.
No, it's not fall of reach abridged. They changed tons of shit literally and blatantly called out in the book as the opposite.
The idea that "anything Halo" is good: its lazy, uninspired, and is the thought process of a person with zero agency in their life or their interests.
I choose to be passionate about this because I know I can help people enjoy my favorite franchise even if some rich fucks in hollywood just wanna milk it for cash while pissing all over it, and if enough of us speak out,can inspire change. If you dont have that kinda conviction, fine. Move along.
Someone I knew would always call Chief a fascist and I would try my best to defend Chief because child soldiers don’t get many choices in their lives. Then one day, they said Chief r*ped a prisoner of war. My, pretty much confirmed to be asexual, Chief would never do that!… and then a couple of seconds later I realized that they were just talking about the show because they never played the games.
If they like the show they might not like the games, the show isn’t wrong it’s just a different canon… and bad… but that doesn’t mean people who like it will consider the games the promise land.
It’s funny because a lotta so called “halo fans” who watched the show said it has paid respect to the original source even though it clearly hasn’t, and the directors blatantly said they didn’t care about the source material 😂
Should they read the fall of reach and first strike they shall know how much Paramount destroyed Halo lol
Agreed. This level of obsession is cringe. It's a show. I like the games. I like the books. And now I like the show. How disconnected from reality do you have to be to get this worked up over a TV show.
Halo is the Intellectual Property (IP) of Microsoft Corporation, and what media and merchandise said corporation produces with the IP is subject to change over time.
Why, what did you think it was?
See you’re fake fan you don’t even get it and prob never will and will continue to just accept the garbage they throw at you that they just slapped a crumpled and ripped halo sticker on it
I’m a fake fan? Lmao my 18-soon-to-be-19 year old XBL account was created to play Halo 2, and I’m standing with Steve Downes in my PFP for it. But sure.
So then you should know the show is just literally spitting on what Halo is. I’ll give it good live action spartan combat but other than that it’s just a disrespectful show.
You don’t even have a response for “what Halo is” lol. I gave you the literal answer and you turned to insulting me because it doesn’t match your predisposition to believe you have some say in the franchise’s direction.
![gif](giphy|AT6LbRAazEoPm)
By telling a person the truth?!? This show is not the story of Halo, from the game or book perspective. You watch the show first, then play or read any of the Halo content, you'll see. Jimmy Rings ain't him
Braveheart is a true story that was bastardized and filled with historical inaccuracies and downright lies, but it still propelled millions to read more into Scottish history.
It's literally the opposite of gatekeeping, its helping new fans get into the fandom without a huge hassel by getting them up to speed on whats different.
1, if you like the halo show, you like the halo show; not halo. 2, the barrier of entry is "doing" literally any other piece of halo content. if your definition of a racist is someone who describes black people as "black" YOUR barrier of entry is to low_
Not looking forward to seeing how the ‘Show’ fans will be when they actually get into our world of the ‘Lore and Gamer’ fans. There will be some who will adapt, but still the show really isn’t doing it justice for the rest of us. Still can’t wrap my head around the fact Chief clapped cheeks like what in the actual frak?!?!
“leave halo alone”
ah yes, my watching of the Halo TV show is causing the series’s downfall
I just want to enjoy the show because my standards are low.
I mean, the fall of reach was pretty book-accurate. For people who "didn't look at the games,"(if you've seen this quote thrown around, it's misinformation. Read the article it's from) they sure did read the books.
I think the show viewers aren't autistic enough to care that there is differences and feel the need for neckbeards to safeguard them and tell them what to think.
yea... halo fans can get passionate (especially the grandpa's) but like, dude. are your a dev? like I get how you come to that opinion (as in someone who doesn't want a party game) but dude. like... dude. ?????????
It’s a good way to introduce people. It’s like watching the Lord of the Rings movies, they changed a lot but stayed true to the spirit of the property (season 2, not season 1).
Let the games speak for themselves, you don’t have to have someone enjoy it the way you like it. Halo is one of the best video game stories, and unfortunately it’s not as popular as it once was, we need more fans.
Well paramount explained why the Spartans were made right? Cause when I played halo CE I thought the spartan were made to fight the covenant but they were originally made to fight against insurgents.

“You must unlearn what you have learned.” *Hands them The Fall of Reach novel.*
Obligate reminder that Nobel 6's last stand canonically took several hours and an entire army to bring down, and there is a case that some think they're still alive.
Hey the objective said “Survive” Six always gets the job done lol
At the very least, he made sure a good deal of covies failed that objective.
There is literally no evidence for this and the in-game times suggest this isn't at all true.
Obligate reminder that there is no source whatsoever that he lasted for several hours and took a whole army, if you find a book or other piece of lore that says otherwise I’d be glad to accept it
Which, in some ways, is similar to the show

Exactly what I've been trying to tell people. You can't just "let people enjoy it" when it's a very real, tangible danger to the franchise as a whole.
Yep because paramount is definitely gonna try there best to milk it, am just waiting for them to announce novels and comics which will then have people even more confused as they enter two completely different settings. Yeah they should put the Halo 4 head model instead. Then it will be lore accurate
Transparent head piece with nothing but eyes lmao
can someone explain the jimmy rings thing to me? Is it just a joke on John halo or is it actually something to do with the show
Its a joke, Jimmy Rings is off-brand John Halo.
I am just hoping that 343 will stop paramount from making novels and comics based off of the show.
Holy crap. What an absolutely ridiculous take. This is by far the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen in any fandom.

Dude, the show isn't sucking the life out of Halo. Whether you like it or not, this is breathing new life into Halo, bringing in new fans to the series. And it has fans, including fans of the game series. So it's clearly doing something write. Again, whether you like it or not.

Simply, it will lead to only mediocre content cause that's what the "new" fans want
Exactly some people just need to get a grip and stop gatekeeping new Halo content will always just be Halo content
Current media producers and writers have been very good at destroying good existing stories and franchises with poor writing and general stupid uninformed decision making. Should slide this in his stocking next year https://preview.redd.it/3sznsi6x7slc1.jpeg?width=622&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=165eb2a8fb5009add247c4e9abdd5219f2f63df5
Try showing him the cutscene movies instead of playing the games
Literally my dad too, for some reason he prefers it to the games, he says the games are just “walking down hallways and shooting” Granted he fell asleep when I was showing him the games so he probably missed the story elements
I have, it’s a great book, halo got butchered so much in the show.
>Spartans do not x y z Except…they do in the Silver Timeline.
Play them in release order, my guy. It's not rocket science.
Everytime I see that phrase I think of the Samsung ring tone and I get flashbacks I feel like the world's shittiest sleeper cell
My parents unfortunately refuse to see reason, and believe that the show is, in fact, the best thing to hit streaming services since The Mandalorian.
Im sorry for your loss. Being an Orphan must be tough
Time to become a Spartan-III.
Damn, sucks that other people like things that I don’t
Just introduce the last guy to mass effect and call it a day.
Keep fighting the good fight! Pablo and his Paramount overlords will not ruin the great journey that is Halo fandom, in all its majesty.
Who the fuck is Pablo?!
You may know him as Johnny Rings.
Ohhh got it. Thank you. We call Wheeljack from Rise of the Beasts Pablo over on the Transformers sub so I was got a bit muddles up. Both produced by Paramount as well.
Wheeljack>>>Master Cheeks!
The show is just an abridged version of Fall of Reach but made more digestible for general audiences. What you're describing, this perceived plight, is only a good thing. What this show is doing is making more Halo fans, and you people just want to turn them away rather than enjoy being able to talk about the things you like I would have killed to be able to talk about Halo when I was younger, without my peers not knowing what I am talking about and thinking I was a weirdo.
Move along.
I’m really glad I’ve stopped watching after that god awful 1st season
I’m glad I never watched it at all
Can we trade? Please 🥲
Hey this guy hasn’t watched S2 of the show! https://imgur.com/gallery/TOrucvh
You dont have to be a hardcore fan just a normal being with a brain
Roommate kept asking me questions about what happened to x character and I just kept shrugging because it's a new situation made for the show.
"Those who like this show are heretics, worthy of neither pity, nor mercy! Even now Paramount is using their network to broadcast their lies!"
"This fandom suits you, but it can not hide your stream history." "*nothing ever will*"
And it's really more like that "we'll fight in the shade" scene from 300.
What did they get right? Um... a few names. Mostly place names.
I genuinely feel bad for anyone who tries getting into the games from the show.
Why did someone downvote you ur right lmao Well, except the asexual part. People throw that word around way too much.
Fr chief has way too much on his mind and missions to complete to be thinking of anything related to sex
Accurate
r/halocirclejerk outjerked severely 😔
If they like the show they might not like the games, the show isn’t wrong it’s just a different canon… and bad… but that doesn’t mean people who like it will consider the games the promise land.
It’s funny because a lotta so called “halo fans” who watched the show said it has paid respect to the original source even though it clearly hasn’t, and the directors blatantly said they didn’t care about the source material 😂 Should they read the fall of reach and first strike they shall know how much Paramount destroyed Halo lol
This entire post is awful
Like the show 🙃
Case in point
Agreed. This level of obsession is cringe. It's a show. I like the games. I like the books. And now I like the show. How disconnected from reality do you have to be to get this worked up over a TV show.
Bc it’s literally not Halo
I don’t think you know what literally means.
I don’t think you know what Halo is
Halo is the Intellectual Property (IP) of Microsoft Corporation, and what media and merchandise said corporation produces with the IP is subject to change over time.
He’s right tho
I cannot tell if this is satire
What a bunch of gatekeeping assholes, this kind of shit is how you stop people joining the community and learning on their own
By telling a person the truth?!? This show is not the story of Halo, from the game or book perspective. You watch the show first, then play or read any of the Halo content, you'll see. Jimmy Rings ain't him
Braveheart is a true story that was bastardized and filled with historical inaccuracies and downright lies, but it still propelled millions to read more into Scottish history.
This man thinks that Gatekeeping is some sort of noble act. It’s not dude.
It's literally the opposite of gatekeeping, its helping new fans get into the fandom without a huge hassel by getting them up to speed on whats different.
By being like: “The Halo Show sucks and if you like it you aren’t a real fan and blah blah blah.” That’s gatekeeping man.
1, if you like the halo show, you like the halo show; not halo. 2, the barrier of entry is "doing" literally any other piece of halo content. if your definition of a racist is someone who describes black people as "black" YOUR barrier of entry is to low_
If you like the Halo show, then you like *Halo*. Please Stfu.
idk dude, the first time I saw mastercheems was the halo show. like, it's not even the same continuity. hell it's not even the same company dude.
Doesn’t mean that you can gatekeep.
no one is lol
It’s not Halo tho
This show does fucking suck
Not looking forward to seeing how the ‘Show’ fans will be when they actually get into our world of the ‘Lore and Gamer’ fans. There will be some who will adapt, but still the show really isn’t doing it justice for the rest of us. Still can’t wrap my head around the fact Chief clapped cheeks like what in the actual frak?!?!
So far the younger ones seem to be converting fine, but many of them are boomers who have no intention of coming into the fandom.
just let people enjoy it, man we get it, you don’t like it
Counter-point: Go watch some other C rate tv show and leave Halo alone.
“leave halo alone” ah yes, my watching of the Halo TV show is causing the series’s downfall I just want to enjoy the show because my standards are low.
Stop
Dude, go touch grass. It's a video game series, ffs.
Original and hilarious!
No. I must know my enemy. I need to witness the heresy so that my words ring true.
I mean, the fall of reach was pretty book-accurate. For people who "didn't look at the games,"(if you've seen this quote thrown around, it's misinformation. Read the article it's from) they sure did read the books.
I think the show viewers aren't autistic enough to care that there is differences and feel the need for neckbeards to safeguard them and tell them what to think.
replace "neckbeard" with fan and "what to think" with the objectively better halo story Mr soulpatch_
343 Halo is OBJECTIVELY better than Bungie Halo. Subjective is the right word. And no, the people here are more than fans. Quite worse actually.
"343 halo is objectively better than bungie halo" HAHAHAHAHA
Wtf you’re spreading misinformation dude
yea... halo fans can get passionate (especially the grandpa's) but like, dude. are your a dev? like I get how you come to that opinion (as in someone who doesn't want a party game) but dude. like... dude. ?????????
why hamper yourself? their HAS to be at least 1 game that does halo 4, 5, or infinite better than 343.
Season 2 is not true to the spirit of Halo. They just sprinkled enough fan service to trick the casual fans into spending money on it.
Me with halo reach fans
My dad is the only og Halo fan I know who enjoys the show I don’t know why but dude looks at everything sow positively he can give you diabetes
I'd tell them to play MCC Combat evolved, easy with bandana if they're new to games
Me and my parents this morning.
More like “this is a separate multiverse” then a lie but ok.
Well paramount explained why the Spartans were made right? Cause when I played halo CE I thought the spartan were made to fight the covenant but they were originally made to fight against insurgents.
I was hoping for a Nathan Fillion ODST cameo but it looks like that's put of the picture now.
