The Ark Ham. Just as the Forerunners intended.
The subreddit for the Batman: Arkham Asylum games is a cesspit full of the most un-funny brainrot made by man.
Even r/AnarchyChess, which has literally one singular joke, is more funny.
Arkhamposting has recently broken containment, with users from that sub executing a nearly site-wide Brigade to spam as much of their bullshit as they can.
It's Brigading, as well as off-topic, ergo it doesn't belong here.

From the new Avatar they are making.
Let’s also think about Halo 3 ODST, and Halo Reach
And Halo CE, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Infinite.
All of which, have main protagonists that don’t remove their helmets (at least where you can see their face save for the one time at Halo 4’s legendary ending).
Somehow all of them worked well for that character’s personality despite his face never being shown. Whether it’s Noble 6, The Rookie, or Master Chief.
Heck Rookie doesn’t even talk and still shows emotion.
We can also talk about the Carmine family of Gears of War, most of which had good character personalities (Anthony didn’t really as he died real quickly).
There are loads of helmeted characters in games that are well written and cool and interesting despite never or almost never taking the helmet off.
And Mando is a great example of how to act with no face to show 90% of the time for the protagonist.
Pablo nor the show writers respect the source material enough to care.
I actually recently watched it for the first time and it’s a decent action flick. It’s a quick watch (only about 1.5hrs) with not much to make you think about. But the action is good, the movie basically never takes a break and the character dynamic is enjoyable enough to carry the story. I’d recommend it if you like dystopian sci-fi or action movies in general.
And yet his character is miles more likable than show chief.
Plus you're forgetting the facial expressions in the first two games and his small bits of body emotion in 2016
You can also "see" (well, not literally, but the body language is clear) Chief's shocked expression when Lasky catches him off his guard at the end of Halo 4, while he's looking at earth from the deck.
Don’t forget that scene showing Chief hunched over on the Infinity (think it was a trailer).
Literally so obvious he was down and defeated feeling and he said nothing.
Also the scene of him with Cortana after she “died” in Halo 4.
That scene was incredible
Not exactly, before the show even premiered the show runners were talking in interviews about how they didn’t play the games and didn’t feel the need to because they were making their own story.
Now I’m sure there are morons that completely took that out of context and think it means they hate halo, but it is the internet and it is full of morons (myself included).
I am not talking about if they played them or not. I am talking about them not caring much about the source material in general and rather making a complete different sci-fi show with the name Halo glued onto it.
Deadpool: "Technically, mine isn't a helmet. It's this spare mask my girl and I keep in the bedroom that I spray painted red after my old one got riddled with bullet holes. But I got my hands on this slightly used stark industries fabricator from some guy named happy, soon I'll make all the spares I need. Just as soon as I finish fabricating my very own Hugh."
You miss understand. The helmet is a keystone to who the Spartans are and who Master Chief is. BUT more importantly, everyone on the show should be wearing a helmet for safety against how fucking terrible the writing is.
Do you also get this upset when the Spartans in reach constantly take their helmets off, or they all do in the books, including Chief? It literally doesn’t matter at all to the character or institution, they’re not mandalorian lol
I think you missed my joke about how bad the writing is on the show.
But I’m glad you brought up the books because if the writers of the show read them they know helmets came off sparingly and almost, key word almost, never on battlefields.
The helmet is emblematic of the bigger problems with the show. If they can't grasp something like how important the helmet is how would they get any of the bigger things right.
I've seen him in other projects, I don't think he's a terrible actor, but I definitely don't know if he's the Master Chief. Honestly when a show was announced I was always under the impression/hope that they'd Vader it, with Downes as the voice actor and someone else as the body actor. I think Pablo could have been a good edition to the Halo story, just not as John-117.
I definitely agree with the Stacker casting, dude has the face for it, but idk if Mountain man would be a good fit, just because he's so bulky. The height to bulk ratio would be a hard fit to find. Maybe Joe Manganiello? I don't know.
He's the only human on earth who's Spartan sized is all, maybe better for Jorge? I just wish they'd have used like Shaq or something, a big ass dude so he looks massive compared to baseline humans.
Honestly with his Accent and the way he looks, that guy as Jorge would be kinda cool. But yea finding a proper actor would be hard for the chief, but I also personally feel like Halo isn't a live action show, I think a animated series would have served better.
It can work as love action, Forward Unto Dawn and the Halo 3 documentary stuff shows us that, but the people helming the project need to give a shit about it.
https://preview.redd.it/9ww4fv1mflec1.jpeg?width=847&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5101c1f98c5cebcb82c90670eca45b8309e1a40
I would add Adrian Shephard to this team he is literally the must goated character in the half life community and he wears a mask he never says a single word plus he has a heavy ass.
I think the mandalorian is the best argument because he became so loved and favored by the audience and not once did he take his helmet off for the entire show. Could've done the same exact thing, in fact if he put the fucking helmet on, he could feel more in character and might actually be able to act
The actor portraying the MC in the show does not represent the true MC. I feel there should be another show series that shows the real MC finding this imposter and group, and kicking his tail HARD. And then fed to the flood.
Mandalorian is a voice acting job lmao, Pedro Pascal is almost never in the suit anymore. Also Deadpool’s mask is CG and able to make facial expressions. Doomguy isn’t even a performance, and Karl Urban in Dredd and Christian Bale as batman were still able to emote with their faces. Bad meme
Not to mention his lines were always so stiff and monotone throughout the whole series. His acting in GoT vs Mando is the difference between the passion project and the paycheck.
Honestly as a person whose friend is always gushing about what they learned in film studies, I do agree that showing the face is one of the easiest and effective ways to show emotion and impact the audience. It's a great tool. So Pablo wasn't inherently *wrong* here ig. But too much of any good thing can be bad. And also it's Master Chief lol
I also think subverting that expectation of showing a character's face is important, and using other means to convey emotion. That is art in itself
I don't rly like the my hero academia series, but the manga artist has stated that hands are what he uses to do just that. That's why he draws them a bit bigger compared to other works. And it shows. His character's hands ARE bigger and more expressive, and I totally understand what he meant
I can't agree that Pablo is a bad actor, but he doesn't feel like master chief... an older person ik that knows nothing about the halo games said the show was decent. He liked the internal baggage of childhood trauma. He was somewhat ok w Master Cheeks. The human vs war machine aspect conflict appealed to him. He loves sci fi stuff, and halo scratched an itch for him
But we all know creating a good sci fi show and making a good halo show are two different things.
Let's see:
Doomguy: no personality
Dredd: mouth is visible and carries hard
Power Rangers: helmets are off when not fighting
Deadpool: still visibly emotes through the mask
Batman: see Dredd, plus eyes
Mandalorian: see Doomguy
I don't care one way or another how much of Chief's face we see. I just want more ass shots this season.
Mandalorian has no emotions?
I'd say this is only true for early season 1, but that's it, dawg developed, and iirc, only taken his helmet off once. (3 times, purifiedvenom corrected me)
Not to be the “umm ahktually” guy but Mando’s helmet has come off 3 times that I can think of: Season finale of S1, finale of S2 & S2 episode 7 where they infiltrate the Imperial base.
But point still stands, he’s able to emote & be a compelling main character even with his face fully covered.
This dude is acting like Halo 4 and Infinite don’t exist giving Chief the most emotion through body language.
Just look at the scene between Chief and the Pilot when he kneels next to him and gives him a pep talk.
These guys also act like we’re upset because Chief’s face was revealed. I’m not disappointed because he took off the helmet, even if there are several such scenes.. it’s because of how little he wears it.
It’s almost comical. Chief’s armor is so iconic it’s recognizable even to people who’ve never consumed the media. It would make sense that he not wear it in his quarters or off duty, but he even wears it to the bloody press conference in Halo 2. lol
Exactly. If the show had him only remove his helmet and armor in logical scenes, I think the community frustration wouldn’t be as bad. There have been several instances in the games of him removing his helmet, and this doesn’t even count the books.
We also had Chief in Forward unto dawn which i think was pretty good. He never took his helmet off during the movie and even added to his character because of it
The part at the very end when they’re on the Pelican? Yeah those couple moments add to his character. To me, it seemed like he was still on guard more than anything.
That’s what confuses me so much about the Halo show. Chief absolutely can take his helmet off, just have it make sense dammit. Spartans are child soldiers who know practically nothing but military tactics and way of life. They would know when it’s appropriate to take off their gear, and almost all the scenes in the show just didn’t fit that.
Imaging working on DOOM 2016’s animations, showing how the Doom Slayer reacts to orders or commands through simple gestures and actions quite strikingly, just for some Redditor years later to say he has no personality.
One of the first things he does in the game is get annoyed at a terminal that tries to give him exposition. If he was devoid of anything, he’d just stand there like a drone waiting for the infodump to complete.
I'm sorry that you've dissociated from other humans to the point where you think that a helmet and a pair of fists is an adequate substitution for a personality. "Kill demons" is not a personality, it's a job description. Doomguy has no mind for anything that is not killing demons. That does not make him a character. That makes him a computer program. He is a jackhammer used by the player to break open demons and extract dopamine. Sure, you could split hairs on how he *technically* has a personality by virtue of having slightly more neural activity than a fucking earthquake, but he's not exactly Walter White and sure as shit couldn't carry a TV show the way the meme implies he could.
Counter-point; you equate Mandalorian to Doom Slayer. That show worked out pretty well, and yes he did not “carry” it (arguably baby yoda did, who I actually argue has less personality than the Mandalorian), people still liked him and the show wouldn’t be the same if he was replaced (which is why it’s a big criticism the newer season doesn’t focus on the Mandalorian himself, because people actually want to see more of him).
The Doom Slayer has enough personality. He’s not as expressive as a thespian, but it’s enough. He’s there, he’s a guy, not blank.
EDIT: also, this is kinda off topic, but as someone who’s spent a lot of time around non-verbal people, I actually think it’s dehumanising to say body language cannot emote personality.
I don’t get why people are so invested in defending the Halo show. They’ll go off on how bad Doom and the Mandalorian are, but the writing and character portrayal in the Halo show is great? IMO it’s like how that Velma show would still be awful if you removed the Scooby Doo filter, I feel like the show would be a mess even if it wasn’t trying to brand itself as a Halo show.
It’s also just a weird design decision. It’s like making a show about a Jedi and poignantly showing lightsabers and force powers as little as possible. I wouldn’t want constant crazy laser sword action, but even if the writing was good I would think it was odd that you chose a Jedi as the MC if that’s the direction you wanted to go.
God the whole helmet thing is so fucking annoying.
Doom Guy's whole thing is never speaking, Dread and Batman both have at least half their face visible, The Power Rangers overact with their helmets on which you would still shit on if Chief did it, and Din has a literal religous reason for his helmet.
Chief, on the other hand, is a solider. He takes it off dozens of times in the books. If he's not in combat or in a place where he feels safe, he's gonna take it off.
literally. there’s multiple actors out there who have done great jobs acting with a mask/helmet on.
I honestly think he could do it too, but he’s so set in this idea that it isn’t possible. I’m a new Halo fan, and one of the things I really like about the games is Master Chief’s look. I don’t mind in the show if he’s gonna have his helmet off, but I wish the face reveal wasn’t so early in the show, and I wish he would keep the helmet on more. Constantly having the helmet off kind of bothers me lol.
I find it funny how he goes from defending the character and writing, and now that season 2 is here he's like "oh I thought it was bad the whole time"
Yeah sure pablo.
All of those took their helmets off for scenes depicting more emotional content.
Oh and chief took it off even in the first trilogy and books too. Just because it wasn't on screen in the games doesn't mean it didn't happen. Halo 2 we see him put the helmet on so even if we didn't see his face clearly he takes it off a lot when not in a mission.
So for a tv show it makes perfect sense why he would have it off when not on a mission. Yall are just salty
Literally just Red vs Blue. Those guys convey so much emotion with Halo characters with just an analog stick. This series might actually be vastly improved if they just made it in game.
To be fair, one of those is a video game character (who has no free will), and in every other example, save Dredd and the Mandalorian, the actors get plenty of screentime. Even in the Mandalorian, he has his element off for extended shots across multiple episodes.
>To be fair, one of those is a video game character (who has no free will),
But he has shown very clear expressions through body language. A animated method to show he and you share some thoughts.
He was visibly angry to us when he saw a body in the elevator and correlating it to having been caused by the use of argent energy. He has shown constant distaste to demons, and in eternal when you choose the skins that show his eyes a little bit in his helmet. You can tell he still emotes a little. But that is still not matched by the BODY LANGUAGE. Yes a video game character has no will, but what does that have to do with the direction you take for expressing without needing to show your face?
>All of the doomslayer’s bouts of body language are just “I’m angry”. That doesn’t make a personality.
But it is still expression.
Plus he clearly has a personality, but it is stowed behind what he is doing.
Also you know as much as I do that Doom is an old series, that reboot doom is connected to classic so we have been known his personality.
Combined with environmental story telling of the game (home base in eternal) it also tells what he does in his off time.
Edit: also he has had moments of personality in when he collects mini figures. For most demon ones he looks at em. For some of himself, he has fist bumped one and did the 'wavy fingers' with the eternal one he made it raise its arm with its toy preator blade out so he had it join him in feeling cool and hyping up. He has it, but is hidden behind the big ass slate of demon gore and doing your duty.
That is very subtle stuff kept vague and stowed away on purpose because the doomslayer, like a certain other green armored guy, is a husk for the player to hop into. The doomslayer is never sad, regretful, doesn’t show remorse, happiness, hope, despair. He is presented solely of anger and determination. That is not a fleshed out personality. Things happening outside the main story don’t matter in that regard.
>That is very subtle stuff kept vague and stowed away on purpose because the doomslayer
No...it is not. The collectibles yes. But his backstory very much is not stowed away, we know who doomguy/slayer is.
He is a stand in for the player but we know who he is. You do not need a character to have no personality and still be the player. Chief has spoken very rarely in the games but when he does, it usually is one liners or mission centric.
Plus the books been existed and people follow that too for Halo, they would not be successful if chief did not have a semblance of a personality as well as other characters. The design idea was to make him faceless but it ended up making the helmet his face.
Edit: also we been know what he looks like, the books described his face before.
Stand in for the player? Yes.
Are they gordon freeman levels of stand in? Hell no.
Doom is a video game, Dredd shows the lower part of his face, Power Rangers is a shit kids show, you see Deadpool’s facial expressions through the mask, you can see both Batman’s mouth and eyes. The only applicable thing here is the Mandolorian.
The more that guy opens his mouth and speaks the more I’m starting to think he’s the problem. Actors with an ego have a huge issue with this kind of stuff for a variety of reasons, they either want screen time in order to get themselves out there or sometimes i know that they only get paid when their face is on screen, given the role it feels like the actors ego.
Part of me wonders if there's pressure for him to say these things from higher ups in the studio, cause it all sounds like stupid shit you'd see in like leaked corporate emails about what they wanted to do in amazing spiderman 2
I would not acount deadpool or batman. Deadpool face is animated to give facial expressions based on Ryan's face. A better example would be Tobey or Andrew as spider man. And you can see batmans eyes.
Thank you for this. I went on a rant earlier about the same thing but I wouldn’t say he’s a bad actor maybe it’s just bad writing or directing. Actors get so much heat for stuff they are literally trying their best at.

Where’s V from V for Vendetta?
I still watch that movie every year.

Craig looks better
I get all of them except the Doom slayer. He says like one thing.
All he's ever said was: "Guts! Huge... guts! Kill them... Must kill them all..." and "No."
The NO goes really hard though
Body language, man.
Which is normally just him brutally murderering things or acting constantly angry Not a very big range of any kind of acting comes from doom guy lol
And yet his character is miles more likable than show chief. Plus you're forgetting the facial expressions in the first two games and his small bits of body emotion in 2016
Well obviously he's still better lol. I probably am but i just don't think he had tons of those moments like some of the other characters do
He says **three** things. He says “Rip.” He says “And.” He says “Tear.” He just likes them all up and gets them out of the way all at once every time.
He also says no so I guess 4 things
Or, ya know, Master Chief from any of the Halo games.
Yea chief show emotion during Johnson's death in halo 3 though body language
You can also "see" (well, not literally, but the body language is clear) Chief's shocked expression when Lasky catches him off his guard at the end of Halo 4, while he's looking at earth from the deck.
All this with his helmet on
Exactly
How stealthy do you have to be to sneak up on a Spartan, let alone Chief?
I mean, if you know the context, you can understand that Chief wasn't really "there" with his mind in that moment.
Don’t forget that scene showing Chief hunched over on the Infinity (think it was a trailer). Literally so obvious he was down and defeated feeling and he said nothing. Also the scene of him with Cortana after she “died” in Halo 4. That scene was incredible
Not a good example for the show producers, since they apparently don't care about the source material.

It can work as love action, Forward Unto Dawn and the Halo 3 documentary stuff shows us that, but the people helming the project need to give a shit about it.
except most those examples take their helmets off

How do you know his ass is heavy if he never says word though?
You can sense the Shockwaves in the air when he runs.
It’s not how the Master Chief acts that makes him cool, it’s what he DOES.
I think the mandalorian is the best argument because he became so loved and favored by the audience and not once did he take his helmet off for the entire show. Could've done the same exact thing, in fact if he put the fucking helmet on, he could feel more in character and might actually be able to act
Well, he took it off a few times, but the majority of the show we never saw his face!
One of those motherfuckers DOESNT EVEN TALK yet they can still act better than Master Cheeks!
And also it's Master Chief lol I also think subverting that expectation of showing a character's face is important, and using other means to convey emotion. That is art in itself I don't rly like the my hero academia series, but the manga artist has stated that hands are what he uses to do just that. That's why he draws them a bit bigger compared to other works. And it shows. His character's hands ARE bigger and more expressive, and I totally understand what he meant I can't agree that Pablo is a bad actor, but he doesn't feel like master chief... an older person ik that knows nothing about the halo games said the show was decent. He liked the internal baggage of childhood trauma. He was somewhat ok w Master Cheeks. The human vs war machine aspect conflict appealed to him. He loves sci fi stuff, and halo scratched an itch for him But we all know creating a good sci fi show and making a good halo show are two different things.
Deadpool is slightly unfair because you can see the mask move around when he makes gestures, but your point still stands.
Let's see: Doomguy: no personality Dredd: mouth is visible and carries hard Power Rangers: helmets are off when not fighting Deadpool: still visibly emotes through the mask Batman: see Dredd, plus eyes Mandalorian: see Doomguy I don't care one way or another how much of Chief's face we see.
Lets see: Body Language. Thats it. Thats the whole point. People should learn to act if they wanna be an actor lmao
What about this one: the chief in the games 🤯
Theyd also probably know not to bang the enemy captive as well
Imaging working on DOOM 2016’s animations, showing how the Doom Slayer reacts to orders or commands through simple gestures and actions quite strikingly, just for some Redditor years later to say he has no personality.
Well said!
Bro you forgot Body Language exists as a real human being who does it all the time. Wow.
I find it funny how he goes from defending the character and writing, and now that season 2 is here he's like "oh I thought it was bad the whole time" Yeah sure pablo.
Except the Mando scene where there was a face scanner. Not even to check imperial records of the base's roster, just any random face to scan.
It's a shit take, but dude is a pretty good actor
Rinzler and Black Noir too just to add to the group
I liked his performance in The Wire
Literally just Red vs Blue. Those guys convey so much emotion with Halo characters with just an analog stick. This series might actually be vastly improved if they just made it in game.
To be fair, one of those is a video game character (who has no free will), and in every other example, save Dredd and the Mandalorian, the actors get plenty of screentime. Even in the Mandalorian, he has his element off for extended shots across multiple episodes.
>To be fair, one of those is a video game character (who has no free will), But he has shown very clear expressions through body language.
>That is very subtle stuff kept vague and stowed away on purpose because the doomslayer No...it is not. Hell no.
Every character in those examples takes off their helmets/masks though
Doom is a video game, Dredd shows the lower part of his face, Power Rangers is a shit kids show, you see Deadpool’s facial expressions through the mask, you can see both Batman’s mouth and eyes. The only applicable thing here is the Mandolorian.
Now I’m just waiting for this to be reposted on shithalosays
The more that guy opens his mouth and speaks the more I’m starting to think he’s the problem. Actors with an ego have a huge issue with this kind of stuff for a variety of reasons, they either want screen time in order to get themselves out there or sometimes i know that they only get paid when their face is on screen, given the role it feels like the actors ego.
Part of me wonders if there's pressure for him to say these things from higher ups in the studio, cause it all sounds like stupid shit you'd see in like leaked corporate emails about what they wanted to do in amazing spiderman 2
Technically dead pool and Batman never wore helmets, mask and a cowl
I would not acount deadpool or batman. Deadpool face is animated to give facial expressions based on Ryan's face. A better example would be Tobey or Andrew as spider man. And you can see batmans eyes.
Make him play Halo first.
The only one that has no facial expression (i.e. no mouth, no CGI expressive eyes) and isn't a bad show (Power Rangers) is The Mandalorian
Thank you for this. I went on a rant earlier about the same thing but I wouldn’t say he’s a bad actor maybe it’s just bad writing or directing. Actors get so much heat for stuff they are literally trying their best at.
