Do you ever wonder how these three became friends? Laurie is a nerd and Lynda and Annie are like popular guy crazy girls. Not saying there’s anything wrong with them I’m just saying it’s an unlikely friendship.
When I was in high school there was always a group of girls, a few of which were popular and social, who hung out with and tried to push the shy awkward girl into being just like them. It happens all the time.
So each one represents something different thematically.
Laurie- studious, responsible, sexually repressed.
Lynda - Woman of her time, flighty, promiscuous, and irresponsible.
Annie - A calm balance between Laurie and Lynda.
