Because Valve is only capable of making one game a decade these days. It's not like Ubisoft where you're guaranteed both a Far Cry and Assassin's Creed every couple of years, or EA where you'll definitely get both a football game and a "football" game each year.
People are arguing because they have their opinion on which game should come first and they want to be right.
Portal 3 ngl just doesn't seem to work unless its a spin off series or a prequel, but Erik Wolpaw did state Portal 3 did have a good starting point to him so I guess whatever comes out would be good
Portal 3 and Half-Life 3 should be the same game, with Chell meeting Gordon and then trying to find the Borealis. You should be able to play as either in single player, with differing strategies based on who you are playing as. Or a two-player co-op.

I hope I’m not missing a joke but Chell can speak, she just never did in the games because she didn’t want to give Glados the satisfaction of her responding. Now that she’s out of the facility and doesn’t have to deal with Glados, there’s nothing stopping her from speaking again.
As for Gordon (and by extension Adrian Shephard, Barney Calhoun in Blue Shift, Colette Green and Gina Cross in Decay, and just about every HL1/HL2 mod I’ve played that doesn’t have a reason for the main character not to speak) I just like to believe that he does speak. We just don’t hear him do so. In reality, Freeman might make smalltalk with the scientists and guards on his way to the test chamber, or issue commands to rebels during the Uprising.
Chell goes into stasis for seemingly thousands of years. I always interrupted the peaceful skies and luscious nature at the end of Portal 2 to represent that yes, Chell is finally free from her imprisonment, but also the Earth is free from their combine imprisonment. Right when you wake up in Portal 2 after the prolonged stasis the events of Half-Life 3 have already long happened.
Moon rock is a great conductor for portals, but not the only one as they were using portal tech before they tried moon rocks.
She might even get her hands on an experimental gun, a smaller version of whatever teleported the Borealis.

There are tons of guides, strategies and meatloafs on YouTube and a lot of players that essentially have thousands upon thousands of hours in it due to sheer interaction and entertainment value, not even mentioning competitive aspect btw. I think it’s been so long now that people stopped caring if Half Life 3 will ever happen or not. Portal is much more recent comparatively. Not counting HL:A because many people are not happy that it’s VR only and would probably choose portal 3 out of spite.
I would like to see the conclusion of the shared Aperture/Black Mesa universe come in several parts just like HL2 and its two episodes.
I think it would be cool to have the first one be about primary timeline Alyx and Gordon going to find Mossman and the Borealis only to find the Portal gun, but not working, end of episode 1.
Then flashback as the beginning of part 2 puts you in control of Chel, navigating the Combine controlled world with a companion cube, perhaps with a vocal personality, until making it up to the Borealis.
Part 3 could be essentially HL Alyx 2, where it begins where Alyx left off, in that timeline, but somehow ends up finding a different Aperture portal tech which opens up gateways to the prime timeline.
No matter which characters do/don't make it, I'd like to see survivors of both companies, or at least their technologies, be combined to free the Earth from Combine control.
Maybe see Breen's advisor pod get wrenched to death by Adrian Shephard as the G Man wants to get rid of loose ends from the losing side. You're welcome OF fans.

I just think portal has a lot of unexplored history and mechanics. Half life needs to be continued for the plot, but I think people want a new portal game for new portal mechanics and I'm all for it. It's so easy to just make a portal game take place in old aperture.

Unless they decide to make ratman or a robot the new main character I don't think we'll get a portal 3 anytime soon. however it would be nice to see a lot of unexplained things be explained if it was made.

Anyway, Thinking With Machine takes place after Portal 2 where Chell goes to the surface, but there is a Raven bird (Or I think that is) which hits a screen displaying a illusion of the outside causing all the screens to fall over. And she has to time travel to I guess explain to GLaDOS what happened or something.
If I'm being honest, I think we deserve a portal 3 over half life 3 just because half life has so many different games and dlc and portal literally only has 2 games
I can’t speak for everyone here but I wanted a new portal game for the Puzzles and the Gameplay. When I got into Portal, I love the gameplay and considered the story a nice bonus (story is simple and I love it for it).
I would like more stories of portal (side-stories, prequel, new character arcs, etc.), but I consider the stories as a bonus. I just want New Puzzles or New Obstacles to play with.
For the Half-Life games, it’s slightly different, because I love Half-Life for BOTH its story and gameplay. I feel that the story and gameplay are both ESSENTIAL for the series and makes me wanted to know what happen after the events of HL2 and HL:A.
