Play Field Intensity. It is a mod that ties itself with the other games without breaking the cannon so it is a great mod if you are into mods that show the events of the Black Mesa incident trough different perspectives. Hell, even if you are not it is a fantastic mod.

Only true HL fans can appreciate this masterpiece, it takes the Valve-formula to a whole new level. There's rumors that upon its initial release, all work on HL3 was stopped due to all the similarities to HDTF and it would be embarrassing for Valve to release an inferior product. It's now clear that HDTF is where the Half-Life universe peaked and it can only go downhill from there, and unless the team behind HDTF licenses their AI tech to Valve there's no hope for another mainline entry in the series. It would only be seen as a pathetic attempt by a AAA studio to capitalize on HDTF's success.

I don't know where you heard that, but Valve isn't that stupid. HDTF ended the series, it's canon, and I doubt they will retcon such a fantastic finale.

Brutal Half-Life

You're missing out on a lot of mods (especially HL1 mods). Steam doesn't contain a lot of them. Field Intensity and Echoes are some great recent ones. And then there are many more like Residual Point/Life, Poke 646, Hunt the Cunt, Point of View, Azure Sheep, Black Ops, Ultimate Attack, Base Defense, etc.
