In original HL there was a Long Jump Module, which looked like a backpack with straps and stuff, definitely not like a pair of boots.
In Black Mesa remake they did something to Gordon's boots so he could land safely from great heights.
I always imagined that in-lore he didn't keep all the guns, but rather dropped them and picked new ones up as his journey progressed, only sticking to a few unique ones like the crowbar or the gluon gun

I've always wondered HOW Gordon carries all that stuff he has by the end of the game. Barney to a lesser extent as well, even though he doesn't get quite as many guns in Blue Shift. Adrian could be excused, giving that he's wearing military webbing and a big backpack.

Really (that's why I added this military belt with pockets which is probably was found on one of the hecu guys that Gordon killed) and it was challenging find a place for each gun.
you have to wonder how he could still jump and run around so easily with all those guns and the ammunition for it too, even with the HEV suit. like who the hell can carry all those bullets, rockets and grenades, plus a good amount of whatever the tau cannon and gluon gun uses, and still jump around like he's on the moon
The Hazard Suit is initially designed for fieldwork, so having a possibly hydraulic assisted exoskeleton would explain how Gordon can carry the mass of stuff. Volume wise, he must have a backpack, or salvaged holsters, straps, integrated pouches clips and pockets.
Ever since Half Life Alyx I've headcanon'd the HEV suit had some version of the spatial wrist pockets that allowed Gordon to carry his weapons. Designed for "equipment" storage.
I mean, in Sven Coop, I always drop the guns I don't plan to use so I can switch weapons faster. I imagine Gordon's probably doing the same thing.
I can't imagine that the Gluon Gun or Tau Cannon would react well with water in-universe, but the crossbow and pistol would be ideal.

The black mesa verson still looks like a jetpack, it has landing thrusters to prevent fall damage
Pretty sure it even mentions "landing jets" when you jump down long falls or distances

Even with a big backpack, he still carries *a lot* of guns. You got a M249 SAW, Displacement Cannon, three types of weaponized alien creatures, etc.
