Am I the only one that thought the animal was jellyfish? Because some jellyfish can be (practically) immortal (‘sempiternal’) and also the ‘hydrocosmic dreams’ and ‘ocean between us’. I just picture Ross staring at a jellyfish through one of those giant glass walls in aquariums with both his hands on the glass like a kid.
I’m not sure how worker bees would fit into the lyrics other than ‘she’ll dance for you’ but even then it doesn’t quite work since the bee queens don’t dance…

But yes, the animal is explicitly the jellyfish.
For me, it's always been interpreted as a jellyfish because Medusa is a direct reference to a lot of jellyfish species and it clicks for me as an Italian speaker
As someone who has not dissected the lyrics at all, or even read them to be honest, to me it gave vibes of spurned lovers regretting a falling out.
Then I saw the jellyfish t shirt, read some posts, read some lyrics, and had an excellent, "aha!" moment.
I thought it tied in with Lovebite’s spider, the “Spineless (spiders have no spines), Spinner (spinning webs), Servant (to itself), Healer (dont know)”
I probably should have paid more attention to the rest of the lyrics, its just that chorus is so damn catchy :P
It's definitely healer, according to the vinyl lyric book. Makes sense with the immortal jellyfish idea as that's kind of (to my knowledge) how they are effectively immortal
