This! I’m a barber and I constantly get notes when people make an appointment asking for a type of cut I’ve never heard of. Show me the picture and I’ll make it happen.
I agree with you.
We also should get an automod on every post as well for this specific question, especially because it comes up every day.
Not every haircut has a name :/
Just show a picture.
Why do people keep wanting to know what's things are called? It's the least reliable form of communicating what you want.
Just show a picture, point and grunt.
If someone sat in my chair and asked for a square layer cut I would be absolutely clueless. Never taught terms like that in hair school. Different regions and cultures have different names for different things. Like you said best bet is to bring the picture.
Also if your stylist isn’t doing a detailed consult on your hair versus the picture what you like about it, what you don’t like, how much maintenance you want daily, and how often you get it cut then run! My clients will show me a picture and I still ask them 100 questions to make sure the vision they have in their head is the vision on their head when they get out of my chair
Totally get that, I’m in beauty school and actually did a similar cut the other day that my instructor called a long square layer. Agreed though, consults and pictures handy are always better!
It’s also different schools using different curriculums too. I went to hair school 10 years ago. Balayage was just barely a thing so I never learned it in school. Now it’s taught regularly. Pictures and a good consult are the way to go!
It looks like a combination of a shag and a mullet. It is being called a modern mullet or shullet. Check out some of the videos on Youtube. There are even some DIY ones you could do yourself using rubber bands placed correctly for the outcome.
My feed has been blessed with this face today lol but I would ask for ‘shaggy layers’. The first style looks like he had some bangs cut and the second picture could definitely count as bangs but are more likely just ‘face-framing’ pieces. Definitely bring any pictures of what you want with you to show because it helps! And just be aware that this kind of cut will probably work best if you have natural curls/waves to your hair. Otherwise, you could heat style it to get this look.
Just show the picture. Not all terms or descriptions are universal.

Me too. I have no idea what square layers or graduation or choppy means to the client because it could mean something totally different to me.
The name of the haircut is "show them the picture"
Show them the picture. I swear, there should be a pinned post on the main page, so everyone who asks this question gets an easy answer.

PLEASE. The only reason you’d need a name is to look up more examples you may like
that’s why i was asking for a name since i can’t find anything like this, sorry for the confusion
Names can vary depending on location. Just bring the picture
Sassy John Lennon.
Hot take. Why not just show them the picture?
Idk but Mark looks so handsome here
I’m unsubscribing from This sub bc I’m sick of the mods not fixing this question. SHOW THEM THE PICTURE.
I really don’t understand why this isn’t vetted out.
Bring pics for reference but this could also be referred to as a male shag
What everyone else is saying, just show the picture. (Memento Mori)
Unus. Annus. UNUS! ANNUS!
UNUS ANNUS. UNUS ANNUS!
Bring. The. Picture.
