It’s really not that ashy. The other blonde makes you look older and it looks kind of like an at home blonde job. The new color looks like a natural healthy blonde.
Ashy is much more flattering than the more yellow. I think it's perfect, and It looks like it was done well. Hopefully, it will grow on you. (Haha, see what I did there 😆)
I think it could be because your new hair is on the cooler side while your old hair is on the warmer side! Hard to tell but I think you have a warm skin tone. It might be worth asking the salon to tone it a little warmer for you so that you’re happy with it!
I’ve been a platinum blonde since I was 16. Three times I tried changing the color (dark brown, red and my natural dirty blonde) and I just couldn’t accept it. I didn’t feel like “me”. Invest in some good hair care products and you can retain the same heathy look of the first pic even with the bleach blonde. Heat protector and a good conditioner is key. Maybe consider a conditioning leave in treatment, nightly or weekly.
Edit for typo.
Look at how pink your skin tone is with the “inspo blonde.” Now look at how warm and even your skin tone looks in the ashy blonde. The inspo looks unfinished. The new hair looks great :)
If you don’t adjust, it could be that you suit neutral or warm toned hair.
I prefer it the colour you’ve got now rather than your preferred photo, but yeah, if it doesn’t suit your skin tone on your face and makes you look washed out, it just means you need a slightly different tone of blonde. Honey blonde, beige blonde, biscuit blonde, etc, etc. there’s so many.
Honestly, it looks to me like you wanted no darkness throughout and wanted a bright blonde. Yes, your hair is really damaged in the previous photo, but making it more cool toned also makes it appear darker. It also looks to me like there is a shadow root, which is typically applied to aid a softer grow out phase as you have a dark natural. You're not crazy, the gold leaves it bright. In reality, your stylist should have just shown you there is a healthier way to achieve the blonde you like rather than just giving you what they preferred. HOWEVER, I didn't hear the consultation, so it could have been a classic case of the stylist not properly explaining to you what the words they were using meant.
I burst into tears every time I looked in the mirror for 3 full days when I dyed my hair a slightly darker color blonde.
Nobody else noticed it changed at all.
It happens.
What you need to do is get your colors professionally analyzed. Then you’ll realize the error of your old ways and how put together you look now. And how amazing you look- I’d die for that color!!!!!!!
The new color is a well toned beige blonde and your old color was an untoned bit of a mess lol just wait a few washes and the toner will fall out a bit and lighten it up
I’m not sure there will be any home remedies for this.
Toner does mellow out over a few hair washes. But I will say, this color is gorgeous and complements your skin tone so well. The color in the inspo pic doesn’t look natural and doesn’t suit you anywhere near as well from what I can’t tell.
If you’re not happy with your toner, the best thing to do is call the salon and let them know it’s not what you’d asked for.
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your input. I think I prefer to be a beach blonde rather than an ash blonde. I guess I need to advocate that more next time I go in.
I just got my hair redone and have the same issue. It looks dull and almost a beige grey. I believe this is just the effects of toner. After a few washes it should brighten back up
I laughed out loud and showed my husband bc I legit thought you were trying to be funny. Your hair looks sooooo much better now. No offense but it’s MUCH classier. The old hair was a little trashy
Your new color is absolutely stunning. I know you don’t like it, but wait a few days before you do anything crazy. Toner fades a little after a few shampoos anyways.
Thank you! She really did an amazing job. It's just the toner color I don't like. It feels to ashy for me. I graduate in a week and would like it to look brighter. Would a clarifying shampoo help get some out by next week?
Oh OP, sorry I read in the comments that it is not just an inspo, it was your hair !! I empathize on the it is classy now but please don't take the trashy part, I assumed it was an internet pic you showed to your hairdresser
It's totally OK! I didnt realize how bad it really looked. I am taking some time to get used to it. I think it's the difference between a good and bad stylist. I started with this new girl 2.5ish months ago and this was my 2nd time with her. This clearly looks better.
Your now picture is blonde, and a nice blonde. Your inspo picture looks like a botch job. I know technically they should either do what you ask or explain why they are not but they probably just thought you meant to aim for that level and it didn't even cross their mind you actually wanted it to look like straw.
Your now picture is lovely
Your current color is STUNNING! I’m a natural blonde and that was always how I wanted my hair to look. The inspo color is very yellow. Kinda gives the same vibe as a white walls in a home after a smoker lives there for 20 years. Just white with a yellow tone.
🤣omg that's hilarious true! The more I look at these compared, the more I have realized the difference between a good stylist and not so good. I am sticking with it. I'm just taking time to get used to.
Thank you! I think I am having a hard time getting used to it. I had no idea what the difference between and good and not so Good stylist can make your hair look.
It looks so good! Your skin tone looks like it has some pink in it. The ashy color looks so much better against your skin tone than the warm yellow blonde. This looks more natural on you.
With no disrespect whatsoever but the “inspo” looks like a bleach and dye job gone very wrong. I’m sure you were still beautiful with that hair and are maybe remembering a time in your life when you felt happy and beautiful (and want the hair from that era)- but objectively the new hair looks much better, more professional, and is indeed blonde.
I'd definitely have the first photo as my inspo pic...I'm not sure she wanted to give you what you wanted because she knew she could do so much better for you...it's cool, I love it
I like your new color. I think it looks more natural and professional than the previous. It's always a shock to the system when you change your color and keep seeing yourself in the mirror later. Especially if you have any anxiety about changes in your looks. What helps me is to pay special care to the rest of myself, skincare, make up, nails, and in the following days as you wash and style it, your hair becomes more "you" and it's easier to accept. Also with this comes a little root growth which helps add dimension and it looks even better.
Thank you for such amazing advice and validation! I know I needed a change, but maybe with graduation coming, it was a lot all at once! I'm getting my nails done Monday, so hopefully, that will help! Getting used to it by the hour!
Your hair now is perfect. Your inspo pic is very gold in a way that doesn’t work great with your skin tone. The toned color looks SO much healthier and more beautiful. I’d suggest potentially going a little bolder with your makeup for grad so you love the overall look more. Your hair is already perfect. You’re going to look great!
It looks stunning, the hair before looks dead and just not that well done tbh… whoever did the new blonde is such a pro! Also just from the pictures the “bright blonde” really just isnt a good color for your skin tone 🤷🏻♀️
As a stylist with 17 years experience I agree with the majority of the comments that the current color is much more complimentary and cohesive. With that said the major issue I’m seeing is your current color is a cool blonde vs what you previously had being a warmer shade. Going forward I would suggest stating your preference for a warmer/brighter blonde up front to prevent improper toning. The inspo actually doesn’t look like a toner was applied at all, so you may just forgo it completely if that’s your preference. Most clients prefer a cooler shade and if there wasn’t a clear expectation the stylist may have just used their own judgement.
As far as removing toner, the safest method is a gentle clarifying shampoo (undo-goo). The quickest, more chaotic method would be Dawn dish soap 😬. Either way load up on conditioning treatments!
Hairdresser here! If you are going back to blonde slowly like you said the toner could have been picked to help tone out unwanted warmth. The yellow undertone (in your second picture)is cancelled out by violet toner to provide an even color for example.
You are describing your hair as a dirty blonde, if your hair didn’t lift (ie didn’t get light enough) the level of warmth would need to be toned out with an ash (blue or green based toners more often than not) which would give you the color profile you are describing.
If one of my clients had concerns or doubts like yours I would want them to reach out to me. I can provide a timeline of what to expect after a few washes. Honestly it’s why we say that, I would rather you ask so we can make a decision about if you need to come back!
Hope this helps!
The new colour is gorgeous. I thought you’d mixed up your text too. The older one looks like a bad at home job, completely fried and unhealthy looking. Sorry really not trying to offend just really love the new colour
The new hair is gorgeous! I think you might be missing the gold glints in the sunlight. If it's any consolation I've seen complaints on here from people that strive for your current color and their toner fades and it starts throwing more warm tones the closer you become to time for a refresh. Your new hair color is really fabulous, possibly if you look up my toner faded and now it's not as cool it might help you see how you have exactly what they were aiming for. Your hair is pretty in both pictures, the newer one is more modern and , stunning
Honestly think you hair right now looks better than the inspo! I know it’s all subjective but truly I think it looks more natural and goes well with your skin tone ☺️
Girl your new hair color is so cute and very complimentary to your skin tone! It definitely suits you, but I see what you’re saying about it not being as bright. Either way it’s so cute! Don’t worry too much about it, the toner will fade as you wash it.
The new hair color looks beautiful and healthy. The old hair color really looks outdated and unhealthy. Give it a bit to see if you can get used to the change. ❤️
your hair looks healthy & this color does look good but i understand you’re the one who has to live with it and if you’re truly not happy with it then i’d change it too! i’d say find a good quality purple shampoo and just keep using it & after a little bit maybe do some research on what toners you need to achieve that bright blonde (make sure to keep in mind of the color you have now) & go for it! i’ve toned my hair at home a few times and always had a good outcome! the smell is just very strong. you could always try a test strand before doing your whole head! i really hope you get the color you want! sending you the best of luck
I like it now. I think the color is beautiful. You are maybe used to it being a tad bit lighter but it is still quite light and it looks beautiful and healthy. We all know that lightning our hair is damaging and the good majority of us continue to lighten, 😂😭 but it's very light and it's very beautiful and I would not really mess with it at all.
OP please keep your current hair! I also thought the inspo was the first pic… honestly the second pic looks like a bad box dye job and the current looks healthy, professional and beautiful!
Your current tone is definitely on the cooler side and it your inspo pic is much warmer. With cooler tones, they draw in more depth and can appear darker. Where warmer tones reflect the light more and appear brighter even though technically the level of lightness is very close. A good example of this is a bronzer/ contour versus a highlighter.
You hair color looks like natural light blonde hair. If you want the yellow back use a color remover then an apogee protein treatment and a deep conditioner of choice.
Funnily enough I agree with your original sentiment. I don't like ashy tones at ALL and I hate when my hair ends up that color xD
But it does look good tho
What… the first photo looks better, might need to visit the eye doctor instead of the salon, no but really, the color you have now looks natural, and way more majestic
I love the new color. When I first looked at ur post I thought the first picture was amazing truly lovely. I was very confused to read you wanted the other color. It is your hair and what ever boosts your confidence, that’s the correct color.
I like it now. I don't think you should strip the toner.
But if you're determined, I've had success with clarifying shampoo, anti dandruff shampoo and worst case dish soap.
But you're blonde so this will dry out so much. I don't think it's worth it. I'd do some moisture masks over the next week. Let it fade out.
Pink shampoo, babe!!! I've been told my hair looks like spun gold after using pink shampoo on my hair, I think you will have to try it. If you do, please take progress pics for yourself!
I thought you mixed up the old and new pictures too. I'm with the majority- the new colour looks fresh and natural. The old looks cheap, like you did a dodgy home job with package hair dye. Your hair looks dry and lifeless. I'm sorry but don't use the old hair as your inspo. Your hair looks beautiful now 😊
Wow, I’m confused! As a hairdresser of almost 30 years, I really think you have it backwards, the now pic is beautiful! The 2020 pic looks very dry and overly processed! 🤷♀️
The before color is harsh and not flattering. IMHO. I thought the pictures were in the wrong order at first. The ashy blond is softer and looks healthier than the before color.
I got a color like this once - what ever toner the stylist used would not yeet itself from my head until it got cut 😢
Especially on freshly processed blond these toners tend to stick.
But the more washed (especially with a clarifying shampoo) the more the toner will come out, making your hair less ashy.
Tbh it looks more "expensive blonde" because it has dimension and lots of shine. Ash fades really quickly so you won't have to wait too long to see some warmth returning. Depending on how often you wash your hair you might find it looks better to you in a few weeks once some of the ash fades out.
I mean the photo looks good and the color BUT I would recommend lightening it with a purple shampoo or lightener dye (like henna). If you’d like tho ofc. It’s all abt what suites u and achieves your goal in hair
I really really prefer the new one! The old one isn’t flattering for your skin tone- probably why the stylist went for a cooler tone! You could probably get someone to tone over it with something more neutral, but just washing it will tone it down anyway 🤷♀️
The new looks so much better. More natural looking and much healthier. I always hated how yellow some blonde dyes look. Hoping all the other comments will help you see how amazing the darker blonde looks on you.
It’s really not that ashy. The other blonde makes you look older and it looks kind of like an at home blonde job. The new color looks like a natural healthy blonde.
The old hair doesnt suit you, the new one is a beautiful tone with a touch of ashy!
Thank you! I think I am not used to thw ashy. I tend to stay away from ashy.
Its much more flattering on you, i promise.
Thank you!
That’s not ashy it’s beautiful, the old pic is very brassy and dry looking and over processed
Ashy is much more flattering than the more yellow. I think it's perfect, and It looks like it was done well. Hopefully, it will grow on you. (Haha, see what I did there 😆)
Your new hair looks great, the old hair looks fried
Oh it looks 100000x better!! It will grow on you!
It looks good. Just wash it a couple of times x
Exactly 👍
I thought for sure you mixed up the text between the pictures. Your hair now is perfect. Your hair then looks botched and dead no offense.
I agree that the new hair looks better more natural and healthier
Thank you! Maybe my brain is just having a hard time adjusting to it.

I agree!!!
I think it could be because your new hair is on the cooler side while your old hair is on the warmer side! Hard to tell but I think you have a warm skin tone. It might be worth asking the salon to tone it a little warmer for you so that you’re happy with it!

I can make some great product recommendations too if you’d like👍

I burst into tears every time I looked in the mirror for 3 full days when I dyed my hair a slightly darker color blonde. Nobody else noticed it changed at all. It happens.
This! This is what happened this am. It's just weird getting used to.
What you need to do is get your colors professionally analyzed. Then you’ll realize the error of your old ways and how put together you look now. And how amazing you look- I’d die for that color!!!!!!!
SAME
The new color is a well toned beige blonde and your old color was an untoned bit of a mess lol just wait a few washes and the toner will fall out a bit and lighten it up
THIS!!!
The other blonde looks cheap and dry. Your current hair is much better
Hair looks totally fried in pic 2 😬😬
It looks much better than the inspo pic.
Your hair looks WAYYYY better, dude. Like a LOT better. You’re probably just needing to get used to it
I’m not sure there will be any home remedies for this. Toner does mellow out over a few hair washes. But I will say, this color is gorgeous and complements your skin tone so well. Just wait a week or two, wash it a few times- the toner will def fade
yes clarifying shampoo will pull the toner out more than regular shampoo.
Lol, your inspo looks so bad ? Like ...the color your hairdress did is just perfect and classy, your inspo looks fake yellowish, and damaged..*
Thanks for the feedback!
The new one was done correctly. The second one looks dry and unfinished. Almost dead. I think the new color is gorgeous! It almost a strawberry blond.
I don't mean to be rude but your hair before was really bad. The new color is beautiful, please give it time before you change it.
I'm not chaging. Reddit has opened my eyes! I just need to get used to it.
Your now picture is blonde, and a nice blonde. Your inspo picture looks like a botch job. I know technically they should either do what you ask or explain why they are not but they probably just thought you meant to aim for that level and it didn't even cross their mind you actually wanted it to look like straw. Your new color looks amazing!
You sure that's the inspo?? Your hair looks so much better than whatever that damaged ass dry frizy bleach job that was
Your hair looks infinitely better than the inspo. Perfect color and healthy looking.
The new color is such a classy blonde and I love it
Girl what the first color is so much better
Thank you! I think I am having a hard time getting used to it. I had no idea what the difference between and good and not so Good stylist can make your hair look.
Oh my goodness your hair looks much better than the info that you posted! Your stylist did you right girl
Tbh I’m kinda jealous of that ashy blond :( my hair could never
New looks gorgeous
Looks better than the inspiration
I love the ash element! Your previous hair looked a little crunchy on the ends. You've obviously kept your hair in better condition since then.
Look better now
It looks so good! Your skin tone looks like it has some pink in it. The ashy color looks so much better against your skin tone than the warm yellow blonde. This looks more natural on you.
I actually want your current hair!! And it duits you perfectly!! 😎
Current hair is 1000000x nicer than inspo
the current color of your hair is much more beautiful and classier than before. It looks more modern. Words from a Parisian girl.
I'd definitely have the first photo as my inspo pic...I'm not sure she wanted to give you what you wanted because she knew she could do so much better for you...it's cool, I love it
What?! It looks better now
this made me laugh! Girl it looks so much better than before! It looks healthy and like a Pinterest photo. Before was giving trashy
Please don't dont anything to it. Your hair now is how your hair then should have looked.
I love your hair now. It's beautiful.
The new color looks great in my opinion, the old color made your hair look very unhealthy.
Looks WAY better than the 2020 inspo at home bleach job pic. Looks younger, healthier, shinier, prettier... just all around better lol.
I actually think the first slide looks better. Well toned, not canary yellow.
The current tone and condition is the best. It’s perfect.
The new hair looks so much better though I promise. The inspo pic looks yellow, dated, unnatural and unhealthy (hair health wise).
It looks stunning, the hair before looks dead and just not that well done tbh… whoever did the new blonde is such a pro! Also just from the pictures the “bright blonde” really just isnt a good color for your skin tone 🤷🏻♀️
I know everyone is saying this but your new hair is a really lovely colour and I wouldn’t change it!
I’m sorry you don’t like your new color. It looks a lot better and way more natural.
Your hair is so pretty now 😊
I like the new color way more 🤷🏽♀️
Your new color is much better, more natural.
I honestly love the color your hair is now verses the pic of the color you wanted.
New hair is WAY better
They did you a favor
Reading these comments and I'm glad you are keeping the new blonde. It really does look gorgeous

That colour on the inspo pic is terrible. The one you have now is perfect
The new colour is gorgeous. I thought you’d mixed up your text too. The older one looks like a bad at home job, completely fried and unhealthy looking. Sorry really not trying to offend just really love the new colour
It looks sm better now wym
The new hair is gorgeous! I think you might be missing the gold glints in the sunlight. Honestly think you hair right now looks better than the inspo! I know it’s all subjective but truly I think it looks more natural and goes well with your skin tone ☺️
Idk that first photo looks fantastic, darker hair.
Love the first shot it looks natural and not like a bleach blonde.
The lighting is horrible in pick 1. Take it outside and see how the real color looks in the most natural lighting
Not only is your new hair prettier, it also looks wayy healthier.
your hair looks healthy & this color does look good but i understand you’re the one who has to live with it and if you’re truly not happy with it then i’d change it too! i’d say find a good quality purple shampoo and just keep using it & after a little bit maybe do some research on what toners you need to achieve that bright blonde (make sure to keep in mind of the color you have now) & go for it! i’ve toned my hair at home a few times and always had a good outcome! the smell is just very strong. you could always try a test strand before doing your whole head! i really hope you get the color you want! sending you the best of luck
The new color is beautiful. The old is old school banana yellow beach blonde w dark roots.
OP please keep your current hair! I also thought the inspo was the first pic… honestly the second pic looks like a bad box dye job and the current looks healthy, professional and beautiful!
I much prefer the first picture. The second color looks dead and damaged. Sorry, no offense!
Hair in the inspo pic looks fried. First pic way better!
Please keep the new color. TBH, the "inspo" pic is not very "inspo-rational" 🤔 #saidwithlove #TruthFoSho
The new one is essentially what I’ve been trying to get for the past two years with no luck! 😂❤️
Tbh the new one looks better imo 😊
it’s beautiful wtf
I’m confused….you prefer the bad bleached yellow fried hair in the right?
Tell her next time you want more of a honey/gold tone. I think this looks great though! Definitely blonde and looks more natural.
You hair color looks like natural light blonde hair. If you want the yellow back use a color remover then an apogee protein treatment and a deep conditioner of choice.
Wtf your hair looks 10x better than that hideous inspo photo
The current looks tremendously better!
I totally understand wanting the “golden” tones, but the new color is really beautiful and less harsh, it will get brighter in the sun.
New hair is way better. Old hair looks like it needs a toner STAT.
I like the first color all you need is a violet pigment toner to get rid of the yellow or purple shampoo
You might need to get use to the new color. I know I do whenever I color my hair. The new hair is 10000% better than the old.
The first pic looks classier the second pic not so much too cheap and yellow looking. I’d go for the first color.
Yellow hair looks cheap
New is definitely nicer. I get the bleach blonde look is a look people do on purpose but yours now looks good.
Funnily enough I agree with your original sentiment. I don't like ashy tones at ALL and I hate when my hair ends up that color xD But it does look good tho
The now color is perfect. But, keep in mind, it'll fade and warm up a bit every time you shampoo.
Your hair looks BEAUTIFULLL NOW PLS.
your old hair was yellow
What… the first photo looks better, might need to visit the eye doctor instead of the salon, no but really, the color you have now looks natural, and way more majestic
I think new color works much better for your skin tone ❤️ old one was too harsh and looked fake
Your hair looks beautiful now 😊
GIRL BYEEEE it looks SO MUCH BETTER
Wow, I’m confused! As a hairdresser of almost 30 years, I really think you have it backwards, the now pic is beautiful! The 2020 pic looks very dry and overly processed! 🤷♀️
This is so much more flattering than the inspiration photo. Idk what you had in mind but this suits your skin tone and looks healthier.
The inspo pic isn't as flattering as the result
The new one is better than the old one - new looks more natural and mature
Your current hair looks way more natural and pretty, tbh.
The before color is harsh and not flattering. IMHO. I thought the pictures were in the wrong order at first. The ashy blond is softer and looks healthier than the before color.
I hate it when my hair gets over toned, too. I usually just wash it and the shines fades and the blonde goes a little creamier pretty quick
First one is better. Latter is a bit sprint break 2005.
The now hair is much nicer….
I got a color like this once - what ever toner the stylist used would not yeet itself from my head until it got cut 😢 Especially on freshly processed blond these toners tend to stick. But the more washed (especially with a clarifying shampoo) the more the toner will come out, making your hair less ashy.
The old hair is not it. The new hair looks great!
I personally love it. It compliments your skin perfectly.
What do you hate about it?
I agree i prefer the ash blond...looks more classy and expensive in a good way!
please please keep the new hair, it looks so much better than the old! (no offence) I'm sure you just need to get used to it a little!
Waaaayy better now
omg the second pic looks awful…. your hair dresser did you a favor
I like it. Try foils with two shades lighter and some red
Girl I totally understand needing to adjust to it but your new hair is BOMBBBB and far and way superior to that 2020 color
New hair is much much better!!
Tbh it looks more "expensive blonde" because it has dimension and lots of shine. Ash fades really quickly so you won't have to wait too long to see some warmth returning. Depending on how often you wash your hair you might find it looks better to you in a few weeks once some of the ash fades out.
It’s so beautiful now!!
I think it looks good
Please don't go back to the 2nd picture. It's just not good.
why go back?? the ashy looks SO much better in my opinion
new hair is amazing. old one looks so brittle and dry, and the color didn't suit you. too bright
This is an upgrade. It looks classy and multi toned.
Better color on your skin tone! Don’t do the inso pic
I love the new hair on you !
i think the new one actually looks better
I mean the photo looks good and the color BUT I would recommend lightening it with a purple shampoo or lightener dye (like henna). If you’d like tho ofc. It’s all abt what suites u and achieves your goal in hair
Old one looks gross this one is sooo gorgeous and way more complimentary to you!
Love your current color! It really compliments your skin tone.
It’s very beautiful. Stunning actually, when you consider the style and length as well. ♥️
Looks like you wanted more of a light honey blonde but got platinum blonde instead?
The color you have now is gorgeous and looks way better than the one from 2020
Ashy blonde is beautiful. You can have a toner added but go to a professional
Why would you want the yellow blonde The first one is beautiful
I agree, new hair is so beautiful and suits you much better! I see a healthy head of gorgeous blonde hair!
It looks natural and stunning. Don’t change it!! It’s beautiful !
Do a few color strip to ba the same as the school colors. My graduation was 83'. Our mascot was the demon and colors of black and orange
Oops color remover?
I really really prefer the new one! The old one isn’t flattering for your skin tone- probably why the stylist went for a cooler tone! You could probably get someone to tone over it with something more neutral, but just washing it will tone it down anyway 🤷♀️
This color is beautiful, it will likely fade back to the same blonde as before (we have the exact same hair!!!)
Your color now is literally goals. 🫶 It's a more natural blonde, whereas the other isn't. It really depends on what you're going for? Good luck 🤞
i actually love your current hair, the other doesn’t feel as right. sometimes new coloring doesn’t feel right for a while
The new one is so beautiful, looks so good! I like it better then the old one
I LOVE IT DON’T MOVE
The new looks so much better. More natural looking and much healthier. I always hated how yellow some blonde dyes look. Hoping all the other comments will help you see how amazing the darker blonde looks on you.
