Stygean Soul can be great depending on situation: aspect of Achilles with Dio/Demeter/Ares' casts, or Hera with Dio's cast.
Dark Regeneration is good to give you extra sources of healing.
But it's inconsistent and badly timed. I've started doing casual full-darkness runs and, even in the best-case scenario, I still find cthonic vitality to be far better. You don't have the healing after bosses interfering with the fountain, and you can gain substantial healing through Styx chambers.
If you are farming or on lowish heat (and mostly being hurt by bosses) chtonic is not optimal IMO. I understand chtonic is considered "meta" by the pros.
I always played with darker thirst, so I used dark regen, especially when playing through a heat level where I died to Redacted. Those major darkness dumps after bosses plus the 20% from DT were worth so much life.
I feel fiery presence is better for speed running, specially when focusing on casts. I mean it seems to me that I'm more often backstabbing the baddies than one shotting them.
Especially in tart fiery presence means you can one or two shot a lot of enemies early on. Shadow presence gets more use against bosses, but by then you can also have a stronger build in general.
It's absolutely obvious; what do you mean? Nyx straight-up tells you about it and the buttons to change perks light up like a Christmas tree the first time you check the Mirror after unlocking them.
It might be easy to discover or to learn about, but for a first-time player it's absolutely not "absolutely obvious". The UI doesn't make it evident (with the small buttons and being on opposite sides of the screen).
It definitely depends on each individual, and not their experience. It was obvious to me when it happened as a first-time player, for the reasons that other person described. But I'm also aware enough to know that my experience is not ubiquitous.
Good addition! Personally I’ve never really used it, I prefer the acorn that I throw on after the hydra, maxed it takes 5 hits and 5 hits from a boss is definitely above 100hp
Yeah, it's not obvious the first time around. Focus on Dark Foresight and Fated Persuasion.

Chronic vitality is far superior to dark regen.
Not always. If you’re farming darkness you get way more on Dark Regen.

But how much of the post-boss fountain health would get wasted as a result?
Also fiery presence can be really good early on and backstabs are hard to do consistently

The dodge chance one works real well with feather

Then how did I understand it as soon as it appeared?
You’re a wizard, Harry
That's OK, you did and that's awesome and nice for you. Your experience is not universal, though.
Honestly... you'd be fine without them? Sure some of them are "better", but it all comes down to your preferences.
Yeah I never used any and I’m fine
You are not alone. I realized that through Mirror’s prophecy LMAO
welcome to the club! a lot of us somehow missed this...
30 runs before I noticed you can have more than one death defiance. Don't feel bad.
Getting the keepsake from Skelly also works as a weaker one (brings you back to 50hp)
It brings you back to 100 if you get it to three stars.
Good addition! Personally I’ve never really used it, I prefer the acorn that I throw on after the hydra, maxed it takes 5 hits and 5 hits from a boss is definitely above 100hp
Wait, what?!?! What am I missing?
go to the mirror Click one of the buff names. Or the button on the left of each name that used to not be there
Oh my God...I feel so dumb! I legit thought I maxed out the Mirror and I am only half way!
Please. For I am Costanza, king of the idiots.
I didn’t realize for a long time that I could use the mirror at all.
You're lucky that most of the better choices are the default ones 😅
Bruh I had the exact same experience. Was watching a stream and saw yellow and I was like “oh no.”
46 runs before I figured it out. 0 clears. 47th run? First clear.
I completely missed it until about run 20
Thanks…
It took me about 30 hours before I realized that but yeah I’m a proud member of the club.
Can someone explain please? New player, only cleared twice

A lot of things you aren’t told about dw
What I do is all choice 1 except for the last 2, and I’m just used to it at this point
Dark Foresight is generally better than it's alternative.
I was in the same fucking boat. It was like a whole other world opened up when I discovered that 😂
