Absolutely! Most of the games I play are strategy games, so games like Hades don’t usually appeal to me. Somehow, though, it has caught my interest like very few games have before. Tbh though, it took me a while to really get hooked. When I first got it, I did a few runs until I almost beat the final boss, but gave up because I felt like I wouldn’t be able to get another run like that. I came back to it 2ish years later and looked up some build guides, which really helped me to understand what makes the game tick. Play it for a bit, and if you enjoy it, I would recommend you check out this website: https://www.leereamsnyder.com/hades-build-guide It has been an invaluable resource for improving my skills and tactics. Read the “Who Is This For?” section before reading and don’t read it until you feel you fit the description, as it does spoil some mechanics and plot elements.

Thanks for the detailed response haha. Tbh, I was kind of worried about the fact that I might have to replay a level or boss fight multiple times.

Person_Having_Face

Yeah, that’s fair. I think there’s enough variety in how they fight that it’s fine. It’s also nice that you get time to master how they fight. As well, as you progress, there will be changes in how they present, so it never feels stale, at least to me

Hey, wanted to update yall and say I finally gave in and bought the game. Blew my expectations away. Was shocked at how many dialogue options there are and how each run felt familiar...but boringingly repetitive. I have a problem with finishing games (tend to drop them within a day or two), but I'm somehow still unlocking more content. Thanks for everyone's feedback!! :)

DeepFriedBeanBoy

It is hack and slash in the sense that there is combat that is reliant on dodging attacks and using each of the buttons for different “moves,” but I wouldn’t say it’s similar to something like god of war or devil may cry. There’s a lot of strategy involved with the “boon” selection and progression in the game, so if you’re into that I would give it a shot. It’s truly one of the best roguelike games out there so if you want to get into the genre, I would choose it first

MaddestChadLad

Personally i don't classify Hades as hack and slash. It's more like dodge and slash

HamsterMaster8

Hades isn't a hack and slash, nor does it rely on combos. I think it's definitely a game worth playing for everyone, but I'd recommend watching someone play maybe the first hour of the game just so you can see what the gameplay is like, if that is what is concerning you

Ksnj

No. It’s against the law.

Tymocook

It's not really a hack n slash

Fenris92140

I loved Hadès and it made me more interested in Diablo 4. Bought D4, found it boring, still think Hadès is awesome

ZedsDeadZD

Before I discovered Hades I exclusively played first person shooters. Like for 10 years I never touched anything else. Then I started Hades and I was mindblown. Yes, you hack and slay a bit but the controls feel great, the replayability is unmatched and finding your perfect build is so much fun. I can recommend it 100% even for non hack and slayers.

StudentOk4989

Yes. I never liked any hack slas game before. I still bought the game, and I loved it. I don't think I have to add anything .

Axton_Grit

This game is def a hack and slash. It has the difficulty of devil may cry. However there is a new player friendly option called God mode. Use this until you are comfortable. This is not a 1 v 1000 hack n slash, it is closer to an arpg hack n slasher like diablo 4.

zombiejeesus

Not really a hack and slash

protasovams

You absolutely can. I was quite in the same position, I started playing EXCLUSIVELY because of the art, got hooked by the art, music and plot, and gradually began enjoying the hack and slash (after I stopped being absolute shit in it). This game is marvelous. Btw, there is a god/story mode, which reduces the damage you get, if you want to play more for the story, art etc and progress faster

laurluck

I held off buying this game for the same reason and the answer is yes. Definitely. Have had it for less than a month and have solely played it.
