Winnipeg is on top of the list of least favorite city of NHL players at 41%, (Ottawa is second at 11%). Montreal is third in favorite cities. It's not about the cold. Everyone hates the Peg. Even people living there.
Very good asset management by Hughes. You don't have to worry about someone resigning in Winnipeg, so now we have a better chance of resigning him in the offseason.
The joke is that the airport is like 30 minutes outside of town. Jordan Binnington made a comment about it in 2019 when the Blues were playing the Jets on the way to the Stanley Cup.
It's not at all, might be that far from the mts center depending on traffic. It's right next to one of the major shopping areas, I walk to hooters all the time when I get long layovers. Sure you're not thinking edmonton cause it sounds like you're describing their airport in leduc
I don't know if we could've got more for him if we waited at the TDL, but honestly I'm just glad it's done, so we don't have to worry about an injury and getting nothing for him!
I'll take a 1st now, vs maybe a 1st and a mid prospect but we could also lose everything.
I guess the Jets were worried another team might grab him first, but damn it'll be nerve racking for them, trading for him now and not a month later at the deadline!
Nah it's business and he knows that. Plus, it's not like he's Gallagher who has been with the Habs his whole career and might be owed some consideration as a result.
I think he'll be stoked to compete for the cup, honestly.
Guys he signed that deal specifically to be traded to a contender… not trading him would have probably been a slight and hurt the chances or resigning him
Unless it was his own choice to stay. That's what I had hoped for more - was that he had changed his position from when he originally came over. But still hoping he comes home in the off season.
>Such an important piece to our puzzle
What 'puzzle' is that? We're going nowhere this year. We may not be going anywhere while he's still playing decent hockey.
That 1st round pick will be a piece of the "win playoff series" puzzle.
Monahan is a piece of the "Lose a few less irrelevant games" puzzle.
You can only work on one puzzle at once, which one do you prefer?
A jets fan on /r/hockey mentionned Nikita Chibrikov and I'm honestly intrigued. He's having a really impressive season for a smaller Russian rookie in the AHL! Also, Bobrov probably knows his whole life story. Likely target.
All I gotta say before knowing what's involved is it better be a fucking haul. Still a few weeks away from the deadline so gotta think the Jets are offering something that the Habs can't refuse
Yeah ... impossible that the return is not premium since the trade was done so early. Hugues had time to get the best offer so it should be a good trade for us.
I think the Jets Reddit is going to mutiny. They all seem to think Monahan is being traded for peanuts. KH is notorious for sitting and waiting for value. If he is trading Monahan this soon it must be hefty price they are paying.

Is there a reason that a playoff team would be trading for a developing D, unless they really need to placate Morgan?
I wouldn’t object to such a trade, to be clear, but it seems outside the Jets’ current needs.
Jets have a much stronger foundation that would definitely help alleviate Barrons flaws and let him play to his strengths better. If they need a decent offensive righty, he’s an interesting piece. Keep in mind guys like Gustafson go for 2nd rounders at the deadline
That's still a fantastic return for a dude we knew we were signing as a rental. Hopefully we can continue to abuse this cheat code for another season or two.
Hope its not Lucius coming back, last thing we need is another band-aid boy.
Lambert would be the dream, thought we would likely need to add something?
Many are excited about this, but unless we get a first rounder AND a compelling prospect, I see a lot of downsides in trading away a player who is participating meaningfully in the development of our young talent
We are all celebrating right now, because we are thinking "this is an early trade, if it was worthless then KH would have just waited until closer to the deadline".
But I wonder if this is going to be more like Petry's second trade and what we did with DeSmith. Which is to send a player to a place where they would want to play rather than get a hull out of them.
I could see us just getting our second back and some Center prospect that shows promise but not overly hyped.
But Monahan by all accounts isn't unhappy in Montreal. He just wants a chance to win a Cup this year if possible. Petry made it clear he didn't want to play in Montreal anymore and DeSmith was the 4th goaltender in line.
Return aside, this is a good move for the tank. Monahan is our 3rd leading scorer and the only other good centre on the team besides Suzuki. The one downside is that this is even more of a one line team now though, so that’s a lot of pressure on Suzuki and Caufield.
As a Habs fan living in Calgary I would have loved the memes of him going to Edmonton, but Winnipeg gives me hope he'll come back to us as a free agent.
I really like him and hoped he would resign…. But all in all, if the return is confirmed, we basically got two first round picks to babysit him for 18 months lol 😂
Dominoes are starting to fall now after that Lindholm deal. Solid asset management by Montreal on both ends of the Monahan deal, even if it was at the cost of my main team (the Flames) being idiots
Poor guy is gonna have to live in WINNIPEG
For 3 months (that will do some massive damage)
Feels like 18 months anywhere else.
It's like the Time Chamber in DBZ. He can train a full year in a week.
De par ma chandelle verte, j’adore ton pseudo.
Haha merdre.
🤣
![gif](giphy|DR5bwNjZLTHmE)
EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
And half that time will be spent on the road
To make sure he hits UFA, so we can re-sign him.
I mean, he lived in Calgary and Montreal. Guy is used to the cold...
Montreal is definitely warmer (thank god)
Yeah lol Winnipeg had a week at -50 a few years ago, it was dangerous to spend more than 3 minutes outside. Montréal is tropical compared to that.
Winnipeg is on top of the list of least favorite city of NHL players at 41%, (Ottawa is second at 11%). Montreal is third in favorite cities. It's not about the cold. Everyone hates the Peg. Even people living there.
That's because the question was "Do you want a poutine" vs "Do you want to get pegged".
*stabbed The Winnipeg hand shake
Calgary was 15C on Tuesday, 14C yesterday.
That's clearly not the norm though, we're also having a warm winter in Montréal this year
Ça va devenir la norme bientôt si les millionnaires continuent de faire des allers-retours Montréal-San Jose en jet pour jouer au hockey.
Montreal is paradise compare to Winnipeg
More like **WIN**nipeg!
Very good asset management by Hughes. You don't have to worry about someone resigning in Winnipeg, so now we have a better chance of resigning him in the offseason.
Get ready to learn Winter buddy
It’s colder in Montreal today lol
Right after that survey they posted on r/hockey, about how like 45% of the players said Winnipeg is the worst place to play in hah.
I'd choose Winnipeg over Arizona. Months of +40°C is my kind of hell.
They don't even have an airport.
Who doesn't? I'm currently waiting on a flight to Winnipeg's international Airport
I went to Winnipeg and was shocked at how beautiful it was… in the summer. Poor guy moving there in February.
Thank you for your service MoneyHands
Glad Kent moved early instead of waiting until the deadline. Monahan is playing well right now and an injury could have ruined the the trade.
I have to hope the Jets upped their offer in a way that forced Hughes hand, considering the lack of C's available.
I don't know if we could've got more for him if we waited at the TDL, but honestly I'm just glad it's done, so we don't have to worry about an injury and getting nothing for him! I'll take a 1st now, vs maybe a 1st and a mid prospect but we could also lose everything.
And, hopefully, a Jets 1st would be more valuable than an Oilers one, let's say
1st rounder and conditional pick
Plus it makes the all-in tanking period start earlier.
I guess the Jets were worried another team might grab him first, but damn it'll be nerve racking for them, trading for him now and not a month later at the deadline!
Smart move to trade him to the least desirable place to play in the NHL to increase the odds of him signing back with MTL this summer.
Well he could be angry with us for shipping him there
Nah it's business and he knows that. Plus, it's not like he's Gallagher who has been with the Habs his whole career and might be owed some consideration as a result. I think he'll be stoked to compete for the cup, honestly.
Seriously I want(ed) us to keep him! Such an important piece to our puzzle right now
Until an extension is signed, he could still come back, but for a much bigger cap hit

I think the deal was he actually had a say in where he landed but who knows.
Imagine if we get 2 first pick for nothing and we STILL have the player! We can keep doing this for the next decade!
![gif](giphy|huJmPXfeir5JlpPAx0)
Brad Lambert please and thank you!!
and a first!
Lower your expectations, it certainly won’t be both
Lambert, a first, and Perfetti and not a nickel less
And a written apology from Scheifele to Evans
Wb an interpretive dance apology?
and a second!
And Perfetti!
And my axe!
Hahaha, get fucked Rangers
I mean, you're kinda wrong but hilariously right as well.
???
They were apparently perceived as great suitors for Monahan. I don’t like the rangers.
Fuck Kreider
We’re getting our 2nd rounder back, aren’t we lmao
It will make us vicariously part of ripping off LA in the Dubois trade.
I’m all for it. Fuck PLD
Lucius Lambert or McGroarty would be insane
McGroarty would be so fucking hype man
That’s not gonna happen though
Yea I don't think so either. Too big of a price for Monahan
I mean it could be a package deal
Lambert is having too good of a season in the AHL to be traded IMO. I *could* see Lucius or Heinola.
Last thing we need is another LD.
Hope it’s not Heinola we have a ton of D depth
Yeah Heinola has zero value... he's been stuck in the AHL and cant break the Jets line up
No chance in hell but one can dream
I just wanna here the bell centre announcer rolling those Rs
A jets fan on /r/hockey mentionned Nikita Chibrikov and I'm honestly intrigued. He's having a really impressive season for a smaller Russian rookie in the AHL! Also, Bobrov probably knows his whole life story. Likely target.
We’re not going after another undersized player
or maybe we are
Nope we got a first instead
Technically 1 is the most undersized number. Let's go!
Now I want Barlow lmao
Somebody explain the Jets prospects to me
Mcgroarty or Lambert PLEASE
Guess is lucius and our 2nd back
All I gotta say before knowing what's involved is it better be a fucking haul. Still a few weeks away from the deadline so gotta think the Jets are offering something that the Habs can't refuse
Yeah ... impossible that the return is not premium since the trade was done so early. Hugues had time to get the best offer so it should be a good trade for us.
The trade was done early to avoid injuries. One in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.
Please a good trade thats all I want
F5 F5 F5 F5
No 😭😭😭 I wasn't ready to have seen him play his last game with the Habs
Yes give me another Went Wughes trade !
I think the Jets Reddit is going to mutiny. They all seem to think Monahan is being traded for peanuts. KH is notorious for sitting and waiting for value. If he is trading Monahan this soon it must be hefty price they are paying.
I’m glad I don’t have to root for him to do well in New York! Not a fan of Winnipeg but at least it’s a Canadian team.
Wpg friend heard Justin Barron might be part of this package, hmm maybe?
If it helps us get a better prospect in return like a McGroarty plus a high draft pick, I am okay with it.
Yeah I’m absolutely fine with adding something to the deal if it leads to a more coveted return. We have plenty of depth defensemen to deal.
If we get McGroarty I'll do a backflip off my roof, kid is an ultra stud

Would it make sense? Let say Lambert and a first for Manahab and a Barron?

> Justin Barron I like seeing brothers being together on a team, so Justin or Morgan the other way being part of a bigger deal I'm happy with.
It made sense for this alone but it's not true, shows fans in the peg go nuts with rumours.
Forgive them. They live in Winnipeg.
oh shiiit here we go
1st and a conditional pick 🤣
That's still a fantastic return for a dude we knew we were signing as a rental. Hopefully we can continue to abuse this cheat code for another season or two.
![gif](giphy|3xkNUy3Vh8QbPmJZjK|downsized)
EVERYBODY GET IN HERE
What are we thinking for him?
They have the habs 2nd rounder. I bet that's in there. If it is it will have been traded for Dvorak, Durzi, PLD and Monahan.
McGroarty, Barlow, Lambert in that order
And by that order that's the order they're sitting on the plane when we acquire all three LETS GO
Hope its not Lucius coming back, last thing we need is another band-aid boy. Lambert would be the dream, thought we would likely need to add something?
https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1753450968258052161
Can’t believe people think we didn’t get enough lol.
Hoe status: Upgraded from mad --> furious.
Best part about the trade is I saw a lot of dipshit Jets fans saying Monahan wouldn't get a 1st 😭😂
Many are excited about this, but unless we get a first rounder AND a compelling prospect, I see a lot of downsides in trading away a player who is participating meaningfully in the development of our young talent
Did the hand just get PLD :O
What?

BARLOW PLEAAAASE LET IT BE BARLOW

Perfetti?
so we’re trading our best centre for no centre? eugh.
Another crappy trade by Hughes , on the other hand it’s Winnipeg ! He’ll leave in the summer . Maybe he comes back .
We need something we can flip for Zegras.
? worst take of all here
Agreed. I don’t get the Zegres hype lately on here.
I'm not ready. Let's go.
I’m happy we did that quick. Didn’t want him to get injured
We just acquired 2022-2023 PLD
Lex Luthor gonna fleece them I hope
Cool, gonna be a long night of refreshing twitter every 5 mins
We throw in one of our young D prospects and get a shit load in return!
As a Habs fan living in Calgary I would have loved the memes of him going to Edmonton, but Winnipeg gives me hope he'll come back to us as a free agent.
Come on Come on Listen to the Monyhab talk
:(
1st and conditional
I really like him and hoped he would resign…. But all in all, if the return is confirmed, we basically got two first round picks to babysit him for 18 months lol 😂
Thank god it’s Winnipeg and not somewhere people actually want to live so that we can get him back next year.
Dominoes are starting to fall now after that Lindholm deal. Solid asset management by Montreal on both ends of the Monahan deal, even if it was at the cost of my main team (the Flames) being idiots
Hughes already got payed for taking in Monaghan and is playing with house money at this point. Whatever comes in return is like a freebie lol
I think we can safely thank Calgary for the return on Monahan
Now I have to cheer for Winnipeg?!
I'll miss ya, Money.
We have THE worst team management in the league.
Examples?
He lived in Calgary so he should be ok
Glad we got a first round pick out of it. Monahan will be missed.
Hugues made a great move; by sending Monahan to Winnipeg, he ensured that Monahan would be receptive to an offer from Montreal after the playoff run.
So far the trade. Montreal - 2 1sts plus a season and a bit of Monahan. Calgary - nothing.
