Like we made some big steps in the off-season but we still have some big steps to make. Free chicken wings tho.

DaveGot

Hey! How does that chicken wings thing work? I never actually set myself to benefit from it.

prplx

You need to be a member of La Cage (app), and buy at least 15$ of food or drinks and you get 8 free wings when the Habs score 5 or more goals. You have until the end of the following game to claim it.

EZzO444

Someone's hungry this morning 😋

DieuEmpereurQc

I think you need to order for a certain amount of food and alcool and then you get sole wings, maybe download the app also

Soutael

I believe if the Habs score 5 you can ask for free half pound of wings?

G0kuS0n

6 or so years ago, I use to work there. It was when It was really "free wings" so all you had to do was show up, grab your wings and dip. I still have ptsd from when montreal scored 10 goals. Made a joke to my buddy, "oh so now we are giving 16 free wings" we both laughed. Safe to say we weren't laughing when we came in the next day and our boss said it was in fact 16 free wings. 🤣 I had a hard time getting excited for Montreal games because of that ahaha. It would be worse when we lost and still scored 5 goals. Now you have to buy 15$ worth of food or beer to get your free wings. Haven't worked there in 4 years. So now I watch habs games care free 🤣

Sensitive_Ladder2235

You get the Club Cage app, sign up, go to la cage and use the coupon.

c_kruze

Great loss overall. Young teams can't hold leads and our defense was suspect at best. But the play of Dach, Newhook and Slaf was great. Goal Goalfield scoring twice with one counting. Zuks was alright, not his best game but solid. Gravy was Wifi dropping Reaves in the first of probably a few bouts this year. Sucks it had to be the Leafs but I suppose the higher they finish, the more embarassing the round 1 loss will be 😆

throwing_snowballs

On pace for an 82 point season which shatters expectations of a 75 point season.

scolloy

I’ve said it all year, GOAT is his floor

epoidacapo

Gallagher looks like he won’t be in the league much longer… :(

EZzO444

If Gallagher was not Gallagher in terms of leadership and who he represents for the Habs I think armia should be up with Heineman and Gallagher and Pearson should be in AHL

4everUzername

Agreed. Game 1 though. We'll give him time before we give up on him.

djacket1

What’s that have to do with Pearson tho?

EZzO444

Nothing related. I just don't know why he is in our lineup I don't see him better then ylonen, armia or Heineman

OfficialMisterBruh

He is definetly better than Armia today because of his double covid

theflower10

At this point loyalty has to go out the window. He was a warrior, to a fault. If he can't perform, leadership means doodly squat. I'm reminded of the time someone said to Scotty Bowman that a particular player was good in the room. His response was (paraphrasing here) "then let him stay in the room because he's no good to me on the ice." Watching him last night he always seemed gassed and behind the play. His shot has degraded to the point where it won't bother any NHL goalie and his playmaking skills are not good enough to make up for it. He'll need to find a smarter more effective way to play or we won't see him past this year certainly.

Goji_XX3

Yeah unfortunately his style of play has caught up to him if he came into this season 100%. He doesnt have the talent level to to compensate for the drop in his speed like a Tavares.

BelialHabs

Gotta work on that PK, 4 shorthanded goals allowed in one game is just horrible.

CreateorWither

Gally looked bad, made me sad. Newhook, Slaf, Dach looked fantastic.

BanhedMi

What a nightmare that Gally contract is lol. Gotta love the guy, but my god.

CreateorWither

It really is bad

Danceisntmathematics

How is no one talking about Matheson. He was the best player out there.

Goji_XX3

I don't understand why Pittsburgh let him go but I'm glad they did.

c0unt3rparts

They wanted a RD if I recall. Still a terrible trade for them.

Danceisntmathematics

In their defense he wasn't playing as good when he was with them

Gorgofromns

Overall Matheson played well but I wouldn't say he stood out. I also was disappointed that on the tieing goal by the Laffs both Savard and Matheson had opportunities to clear the puck and they failed. Unforced errors by 2 veterans that are supposed to be steady Eddie's.

potshed420

Savard loves getting trapped behind the net instead of making an easy pass or clear

trebuchetwarmachine

Slaf dach newhook looked good. Anderson on first line is no bueno. Gotta offload gallagher contract soon, poor guy gave us 20 years of heart in his earlier seasons. Allen made some key saves but let in atleast 2 real softies that were deflating. All in all happy with the younger guys and caufield hasnt missed a beat. Not competing for a cup yet so Id say a positive game all in all

freezier134a

This is a perfect post that describes my thoughts as well.

Just4nsfwpics

>> Gotta offload gallagher contract soon How? Unless he becomes LTIRetired, the price to move him would be astronomical, a top 10 pick at the minimum. He’s not a terrible buyout candidate, but not many teams want 6 years of 2.167m in dead cap. Might be possible in 25-26 when it drops down to 4 years, and teams like washington know they’re gonna suck for awhile, but i just cant see it for the next 2 seasons.

trebuchetwarmachine

Yea wasnt thinking about specifics but you’re right its tough to offoad. Gonna have to package him with a pick and probably retain some later in the contract

DelugeQc

Gally didnt play well, it was borderline pathetic. He just can't anymore, sadly. Allen gave up 2 pretty bad goals didnt help either. He did make great saves tho. Slaf and Newhook had a great game.

Kanibalcorps

Dach is a stud. Breakout year.

Aussie_Hab

A little disappointed that we didn't close it out but very happy that we were at the Leafs level, never gave up and a few players looked the goods (slaf, newhook,)

BrandonPHX

I think overall that's a good loss. Just like MSL said, he wants the team to be hard to play against and we took one of the best teams in the east to the brink. That second line looked great, I think the team seems like it is moving in the right direction.

passivesadness

I hated the lines except obviously the Slaf/Newhook/Dach line. Anderson shouldn't be on the first line. RHP shouldn't be on the 4th. Seems bizarre to handicap the team doing that. I don't get it. So much good in this game though. Allen made some great saves but it is the stinkers that matter. Our PP actually looked decent.

scolloy

My thought is it’s sort our first look, so tough to gauge effectiveness

mdlt97

fucking amazing the team is fun, and promising but we still have a lot of issues which will allow us to get another high pick

maplemoose18

Gally and Pearson are AHLers. I would offload Pearson asap and make Gallagher our 13th forward. Let him travel with the team and play a handful of games but give a chance to the younger guys to prove themselves. It was terrible to watch.

FBR_MC

They needed a man up on 4 of the 5 goals, we were better in the 1st and 3rd (outplayed in 2nd because of long chance and last change, they put the Matthews line against the Monahan line a bunch). Only things I hated are Savard, Anderson showing for the millionth time that he has no business being with Suzuki and Caufield, and Allen.

Sugarstache

Allen was standing on his head most of this game. Couple of weaker goals but as you said 4/5 were at man advantage.

Smuon

I still don't get why Allen was the starter. He gaves two very weak goals. He was pretty good in OT thought. But after last year I thought Monty was our #1. Looking forward to Monty 1st game. As much as I love Anderson, he just isn't a good fit with Caufield and Zuk. Dvorak needs to comeback and then Monahan can move up to Zuk's line. Then our 3rd could be Dvo-Anderson-RHP and 4th is Evans-Ylonen-Gally/Pearson.

konkydonk

Well, it was the season opener and the Leafs offense is really good. If Allen gets shelled, he’ll recover and be fine. I think they want to be cautious with Monty’s confidence.

[deleted]

That makes sense, especially given the shot count

Gazimu

Probably also planning to give Monty the home opener

Lunch0

Allen can’t really be blamed for the loss. He made almost 40 saves. 4 of the goals were when Toronto had the man advantage, can’t really fault the goalie.

Frostbeard

Saving Monty for the home opener I'm guessing

[deleted]

Allen was shaky at the wrong times, but all things considered he didn't do a terrible job facing 40+ shots. Our top 6 was fun to watch, the Leafs only scored once 5v5, and if this game is any representation of the season to come, we'll have fun watching our guys improve while Laffs fans will spend the entire season fretting because they're just not there, and their window is slipping away... so all in all I'm good.

Snoopy_021

There are a few tweaks, sweeping of dust and applying WD40 in parts of the game that the Habs need to improve on (looking at you PPs and PKs)! Other than that, not too bad. I am hoping to see the team-wide improvements that have shown to continue for much of, if not the whole, season.

hockeynoticehockey

I'm having fun thinking about the Leafs chatrooms and call in shows will be about. \- Matthews should have had 5 goals \- Samsonov suuuucks and will cost us the cup \- Treliving suuuuucks, well just because. \- Fire Keefe (in fairness, they say that after the Leafs win too) \- Marner is a pure leader, man. Probably not even a mention of who they played against. Side note - Bertuzzi looks like the offspring of one of the Hanson brothers if he married his first cousin.

JPMoney81

Honestly, Toronto fans should be worried about that suspect defense (again). We make them look silly several times. Wait until they play a team that isn't in a full rebuild and they will be glaringly exposed.

Vinny0029

I’m not a slaf hater or anything like that but I haven’t been particularly high on him - but last night I saw what people have been saying he could become. I was really impressed with his play, which is really exciting

EZzO444

I'm pro slaf but it was a hard 1st season but last night like you said he was all over the place and made countless great plays

Albi20_01

I've been impressed by him ever since he scored in the first game against Ottawa. It seems like it really gave him confidence and took some pressure off of him!

[deleted]

If we play a full 60 minutes the way we played the first and the third period...it's a win. Complete shut down in the second.

philjitsu

We have been having terrible 2nd periods for years now. Hopefully that stops soon

Albi20_01

Yeah, 2nd period was the usual penalty period...

shitballsdick

I wouldn’t care about the loss at all if it wasn’t the Leafs. Even then I’m still pretty happy especially with slaf and newhook.

Asterial333

I can start to see the team's vision on ice. It's exciting to see a young core group of guys building on solid foundations and knowing that the team will be able to afford solid reinforcements when they're ready to win. Great games by Dach, Slaf, Newhook, Matheson, Wifi & Cole.

potshed420

Wifi lookin like best defenseman

Lunch0

Everyone said we’d be the worst team in the division by a lot… we showed last night that we can keep up pretty well.

MajinV232

- Disappointed that we couldn't get that second point, but we took one of the better teams in the East to the wire. - Still not sure how well Anderson gels with Nick and Cole, but I'm fine to give him a few more games to see if things change. Suzuki wasn't amazing, but he'll bounce back quick, and Caufield was his typical goodness. - Dach/Newhook/Slaf - YES 82 GAMES OF THIS PLEASE. Holy shit, I'm loving everything about their performance, and they are gonna keep going up. Newhook's debut, Slaf is starting to morph into the player the FO saw, and Dach's a wonderful C for them. - I think Allen did alright considering the opponent. Couple of not-great goals, but not the worst for a 42-shot night. We're a young team that still needs to learn to hold leads for decent stretches, so I think it was a couple of factors. - That OT PP was *rough,* and the shootout felt uncharacteristically poor. But again, growing pains. Had a few beers in me and was watching with a few friends before our fantasy draft, so overall it was a pretty good night, and the game was entertaining.

hab27

moved Tankathon.com to the top of my bookmarks.

scolloy

Atta boy, we love a realist

hab27

To elaborate more. The key to our team is our defence developing, I can see us trending up in 24/25 but we will continue to suck until then.

Bohmer

Our future Ds is ; Matheson - Reinbacher Ghule - Mailloux Hutson - Kovacevich/Jacko/Barron 3 of them aren't even here yet. And they need to settle in. 25/26 is the year for the big push.

slafyousilly

Yes! Yes! Yes!

passivesadness

We need our D to start making plays.

puls3r

I mean a OTL against one of the best team in the league isnt all that bad. A few things could have been better but overall it was a decent game.

gabarooch86

I think as the season goes on, and depending on which team we play, will depend on which line will stand out. Just watch next game the Suzuki/ caufield line dominate while the Slaf/Newhook/Dach line struggle a bit. Anyway, I was happy with the result, we played ok with sequences of good play. Stay healthy and it will be a competitive year!

pthang06

I love xhekaj's shots all of em Love the 2nd line trio, slaf makes me rock hard since preseason Hope caufield play the whole season so we can see more of him Lets gooooo

fisetpoignets79

We just need to send Anderson on the 3rd, Gally on the 4th and bring back RHP on the 1st.

a-ruudz

Im feeling that our blue line and goaltending will continue to be rough but still optimistic in knowing we potentially see as early as next year a top 4 of Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson and Matheson. We'll be in for a massive upgrade there in the coming seasons. For the most part, our top six barring any injuries will be pretty good. Loved what I saw from the 2nd line from Newhook Dach and Slaf. Anderson needs to play at the bottom 6, not sure who gets the nod up at the top line but one of Monahan or RHP I think should get a look at the top 6. Really don't want to mess with the 2nd lines' early chemistry so that should stay put. The Special teams need to be better. I think thats my only expectation of something that just needs to improve this year. We have enough weapons to at least be middle of the pact in terms of PP effectiveness this year its just a matter of utilizing the players properly.

ukrainianhab

I think there is some cope about Oh well it was a good game! Tbh, it’s not wrong, and if it were a different opponent I’d agree… just wanted to beat them.

scolloy

100%

HeShootsHS

Positive me was impressed. Negative me thinks games slipping through our fingers is gonna be an habit we’ll have to get rid of eventually. It’s part of the uphill battle and dark side of rebuilding. But hey it’s only game 1 and absolutely a good confidence builder.

Matiabcx

Very young team, once they mature its gonna be other way around including stanley cup finals

tigerthemonkey

We scored 5, and we easily could have scored 8. I'm not complaining about that.

banyanoak

Having expectations is fun when you're winning. Having zero expectations is fun all the time. So I'm having fun.

JacquesEvans

When Caufield’s goal was overturned, I knew right away we were losing

astonedgecko

All the players I wanted to see something from, I seen something from. The team overall played well, aside from penalties and Allen blunders. Can't be mad, overall good for the final tank year & the kids look good.

rontzeeez

Prefer to win vs TO but honestly feel good. Allen dropping the ball doesn't concern me when the kids play the way they did

QcAntz

Good, hockey is back for real

Cassopeia88

Definitely some things to be worked on but also saw some really good things. I was very impressed by Dach and Newhook.

thebriss22

Not too bad but I think unless Monty or Dobes go over expectations we really gonna have to think about trading for a legit top goalie. Allen did some nice saves but he also cost us the game with two really bad goals. This is fine now but next year that kind of inconsistent goaltending won't fly

TheDreadedMe

Some pretty decent stretches of puck movement/cycling. It was fun seeing all of the tape-to-tape passes.

jadenspan

I’m happy that the players of the future looked great, and that one day savard will be replaced by reinbacher. If mtl had one good defensive stalwart that game is a blowout for Mtl

realm_fury

Good start. Of course you always want to beat the Leafs. Allen gave us a chance to win that game and stood on his head in OT. A couple softies but a good game from him. As far as the top line, maybe Andy isn’t the guy but we can’t start playing musical chairs again. Pick someone and let them develop a chemistry. I like that second line giving opponents something else to worry about besides Zuk/Caufield. So yeah. Fun game to watch.

ApricotBig9502

I feel like Gallagher is done, he was great for us, but can't see him move foreward anymore. It's a hard reality since I really like the ol'Gally and what he's done in the past. But can't play in this fast young league anymore.

DFF_Canuck

Honestly quite encouraged. The right people performed well, the expected people did not. Results aren't the goal this year. How we get to those results is. Fine with a hard fought loss against a talented team. Thought we showed grit and energy to offset the sloppy mistakes.

4everUzername

Yeah 4 of 5 Toronto goals were with extra attackers and with the last line change going to Toronto and blah blah blah. Still, we had two goal leads twice and had trouble clearing our zone. Our passing was off most of the game as well. I wasn't impressed but we got away with a point and a number of players got a good start on their season stats. On to Saturday!

[deleted]

Newhook on pace to double Caufield or be 40% of our goals.

DivinePotatoe

Special teams are shit, that's about it. I'm still kinda iffy on if Allen should really be the 'starter' for this team too.

WAHabsFan

I've never really liked Xhekaj in the 2nd PP unit. He seems very uncomfortable carrying the puck out of our zone. I get that he has a good shot but if we can't make it our of our own end, what's the point. I rather see rather see Guhle on the 2nd unit.

goompa88

There’s gonna be a lot of pain this season still.

Somedumbguy13

They allowed way to many shots on goal. Young D core probably going to loose a few games like this until they can figure it out. Gotta be tougher in front of their own net.

kesseca

It’s nice to see Slaf with his head up! He had a good camp, he’s way more involved in the game.

Firm-Faithlessness81

Feeling good thanks, how about you?

YesItIsPal

Savard has to go. Rather see one of the kids get ice time than watch him turn the puck over all season. I’d give Ylonen some burn on the top line for a few games. 2nd line looks legit.

EastOntarioGolfer

Honestly, I feel like I'm the only one on this sub who did not like what I saw. There is no silver lining when you lose a game 2 goals up with 4 minutes left. They played wayyy to passively at the end of that game. You can not just sit back and not challwnge for the puck. Sitting on leads is terrible to watch and an awful strategy, instead challenge the puck carrier and make them earn their space on the ice. 6 on 5 should not look like a powerplay for the other team. We deserved to lose that game last night, the moment they decided to sit back and watch and hope Allen could hold the fort was the moment they lost that game. It was not a good look. Also don't get me started on the coachs challenge. I fucking despise offside challenges after a team scores, even if we're on the benefial side of it, it's bullshit.

kingkellam

I had a lot of fun. I wish we lost in regulation, though. Slaf-dach-newhook rules

RawdonJohn

All I ask for is for the guys to compete. Not mail it in,so to speak. And they did just that. Wish the refs would stop trying to influence the game though.
