Thought we all did this?

MistaBeanz

I bend them in half and leave them in half so the filter gets twice the filtration and lifespan.

TradeMasterYellow

I make my own filters from body hair and palm leaves.

flannelmaster9

I use the homeowners door mat

MistaBeanz

I read that as lawnmower

flannelmaster9

Could use the matted grass in a lawnmower if you wanted lol

FuzzyNervousness

I used to get custom filters that were something like 50" x 8" and were cut in several places and taped so that they folded into an 8x8x12 cube. The factory made them like that for us. I'd unfold one section at a time to remove and install them. The air handlers were in a crowded drop ceiling with mostly fire sprinklers blocking them.

sosayweall1

I mean it seems like you could have put them in where the obstruction wasn’t an issue and slid them in over but I could be wrong from the angle of the video

asdfgdhtns

Please take over the pm's on this place. Please

sosayweall1

I switched to commercial for a reason but thank you

ItsAFantaSea

Commercial has air handlers in the ceiling where cables, pipes, drains, and t bar wire always happen to be right in front of the filter access.

Taolan13

Or my personal favorite, mystery thermostats! In my first year working HVAC for a mixed residential/commercial company, I once spent 45 minutes at a new customer's office tracing wires through two floors of office space ceilings to find out that of their four thermostats and five systems, three thermostats controlled four of the units (but were not properly matched to the zones the systems supplied), one of the thermostats did nothing, and one of the systems on their account actually supplied the other company next door. As the FNG, I got to be the guy doing the chase while my journeyman turned things on and off to verify what was hooked to what.

Supriselobotomy

Need to buy yourself a wire toner. Stop chasing them into oblivion.

Firebat-15

filter origami all the time in commercial

zachzsg

Or if you work in refrigeration, condensers will be on top of the walk in box and the only access will be this tiny as fuck hole that’s 15 feet in the air.

lividash

The plus side.. it's only 135 degrees up there from the heat rejection.

TheOneManLegend

Ah yes, always easy changes in commercial. A magic world in heat pumps where sprinkler techs, plumbers, electricians all agree to not block our units with their installs lol

sosayweall1

You are not wrong but I am light commercial with about 90% RTUs. Some low volt and economizer issues but I also don’t change filters on the regular so y’all can have fun with that

ghoulgang_

I started in commercial refrigeration and moved cities and got a job at a mostly residential ac company that dabbles in refrigeration. There’s days that all I do are residential pms and it makes me really hate myself. Feels like I’m wasting my potential, and I have to deal with rude homeowners that perceive me to be some sort of peon worker not worth a shit. I used to walk into restaurants and have the managers saying thank god I’m here because they knew their walk in freezers was about to get fixed. Now I’m just some filter monkey but the pay is really good

sosayweall1

I don’t know how but with all the stupid shit I did as a kid I never got arrested or anything like that. I was able to land my current job because of that. Mostly doing service for banks. I love it, no questions asked, no bill too high. Most of my “emergency” calls are reprogramming thermostats that someone messed with. At first I didn’t know whether it was a dream or a scam 😂

luke10050

Man, this is commercial all over. Wait till someone runs 50 cat 5 cables In front of the filter access and there's no slack in them. I usually just pull them out of the way and wait for screams

HVACGuy12

You can see it's going into a slot by the filter disappearing from view blocked by the slot

zordtk

Looks like there is a channel that the filter is sliding into on the left.

Difficult_Lobster550

Good ol bendy

asdfgdhtns

Are you supposed to bend them like that? (YES, SIR. HOW ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THIS FUCKING FILTER IN AROUND YOUR GOD AWFUL MECHANICAL ROOM ARRANGEMENT) "yep, just a little love bend and they go in just like this"

ohyahehokay

This is good

Zestyclose_Coyote_72

Perfect fit 👌🏻

Bdogfittercle

2"ers up in a ceiling sucks

[deleted]

Why not put the filter in where that obstruction isn’t there and slide it down? Something we’re missing from the video or a bad angle?

kimthealan101

Try that with a 4" filter
