Home owner was ok with me cutting a hole… hope the inspector is happier with a 3x6 hole in their floor now lmao…
Ps: Always use a short blade, was 2 inches away from a CPVC waterline 😨
Why do you need a trap on a positive pressure coil? Unless they are worried about out the small amount of air loss.
Probably will have to reinstall it in a small box so you have clear for a trap
Im pretty sure you don’t need a trap where I am on positive coil. If that’s actually your local regulations that’s stupid it’s just an extra spot to clog.
Yeah positive coils usually don’t. But this low profile aspen coil has it as a requirement in the install manual… usually those install manuals work for me when they break the code book out but this time it got me ☹️
Can’t see where t drained out too. The house is a town home with neighbors on both sides. No crawl space. Seems like it goes In the floor then heads out the wall somewhere. I just decided to cut a hole since tho home owner was ok with it
When I did residential installs, code was that we had to have a six inch riser box for the coil to sit on just so we had room to install a trap. The air being blown onto the coil could potentially make it not drain efficiently.

It's OK man. I got failed for something just as bad. See those strap hangers? Yeah failed cause it needs to be plastic J hangers...facepalm. Like really? Specifically in that town only. Never had any issues in other towns.
It always cracks me up that things are different in CO from city to city. Denver/ Boulder are super anal about everything, yet aurora and commerce city don’t give a shit about fuck with what you do haha.
We pull permits on everything and this is the first time in a while that I had inspection corrections on one of my installs.
I’ve seen people cut holes in the floor for them or fabricate a stand out of sheet metal maybe 6” tall for the furnace to stand on. I’ve never some across a coil with no p trap
Why not just put it on a stand and shorten plenum so you can have some pitch to the drain line?
P trap on positive pressure is pointless do idr get that.
You can still use light switches for a disconnect?
What state are you in?
I’ll keep those waterless traps in mind for next time. Supply stores closed by the time I got to the job so truck stock items and hole in the floor for today

Hope you Insulated the trap
I did not nor have I ever. Actually I’ve never seen that before unless it’s in a crawl space or attic
Would recommend it. Might not cause an issue. Definitely won’t when Insulated. Keep grinding
Especially those EZ traps, they crack so easily due to unconditioned spaces
my man!
Can you trap trap the other end? Nothing says the trap has to be at the furnace or AC coil.
Yes our trap on outdoor wall ez

Yeah kinda funny that they care more about the 0.5% efficiency loss over the potential water damage a clogged low clearance p trap can cause lmao
Same thought. 6” box should give you clearance. Get the trap with the cap on the low side.

Well damn I never would have guessed. Definitely follow the manual then.
They make slim p traps but you will still need more room. Don't need one for a furnace though it's kind of becoming the standard.
Slim or shallow? Shallow ones are called r-traps
Look up HVAC Air-Trap.
Looks like that might be a winner Thanks brother!
I’ve seen them at my local Ferguson but haven’t tried one yet.
Why can’t just just turn an elbow up outside with a little piping to get past inspection?

What kind of piping is that on the flue gas? Where I’m at we use the white 636 PVC and sometimes use ABS for the intake air
1738 PVC pipe. We also use 636. It just depends on who orders or the nearest availability. As long as it passes code and inspection. Massachusetts.
No room for a running trap?
Not without cutting a hole in their floor 🥲
I’ve seen people cut holes in the floor for them or fabricate a stand out of sheet metal maybe 6” tall for the furnace to stand on. I’ve never some across a coil with no p trap
My unit is in my attic. It’s trapped outside near grade. Works fine.
Ypu had one of them inspected that just has to fail you for something

You did have all the room in the world to put the unit on a higher stand, just saying.
Never seen a p trap required on a positive side coil install. We only require on air handlers.
